Title: Is regulating Crypto killing the market?
Post by: Manojdaran on January 23, 2018, 01:29:26 PM
We re seeing a lot of things about cryptocurrencies in our daily news. Many countries are trying to regulate it by imposing restrictions. Does that mean the good old days have gone? Huge pump after the arrival of a new coin? HODL to gain 1000% or so? All these things have gone? The market is very dull, we couldnt even see a solid jump these days. So, is this the start of the end of crypto? Post your ideas.

Nowadays market is very dull and price keeps falling and struggling to recover from the falls. This is happening due to many restrictions for crypto currency users in many countries.I won't say it is killing the crypto market it looks like governments are trying to take control of a decentralized platform. But no one can stop using us from decentralized crypto currency but the price will be very less if they are continue this strategy,

Not killing at all but made a big impact with todays crypto market fall.  The tight rules and regulations affected too much with what is happening right now.  Government want to make a control over crypto or should I say make also a profit with crypto by collecting tax from it.  Government and the world bank I think is in fear now with this trend of crypto currency. Also I think banks are behind in Ripple to go inside in crypto world.

Its true that altcoin market seems to be dull nowadays and even bitcoin price has fallen now to $10,340.I think that the entry of companies like CME,CBOE with bitcoin futures has made earlier bitcoin's price to reach ATH of $20,000 within a month duration and now price totally falling and creating an image that bitcoin and altcoin markets have no future at all here after.Market situations would have been far better if bitcoin futures had not get launched. But if the arrival of shitcoins gets stopped,it would be a good thing happening despite such a worse condition.

Regulation will protect people and give people more confidence. This will lead to mass adoption if anything, so do not be afraid of regulation.

Market will always adapt to the challenges it is presented with, regulations are needed, however the governments are putting their focus in the wrong place, you can regulate cryptocurrencies by letting them expand and by creating boundaries that protect the users rather than limiting their options to use/mine coins.

The first country in correctly adopt cryptos will experience a large growth in small to medium business sector as capitals that can be regulated via blockchain auditing would be flowing from all around the world.

This I believe but the people are going to panic when they hear regulation and the media says "ban".  It always look like they manipulate the media to report something else.

I can't stand to hold tokens when the value keeps depreciating, the longer you hold the lesser its value.

I think it is important that how the goverment regulate the crypto. I mean Vladimir Putin for instance, 3 months ago he said that we will regulate the crypto currencies but on the other hand he said he is not against crypto, he will support crypto. He show this positive interest with to call ethereum's founder to his office.

Regulation and KYC will give to all real projects x10 in the capitalization. But there is one big problem - it will be a departure from freedom and decentralization. Economically, I will be happy x10, but ideologically I will be totally upset.

Very interesting discussion. I especially find the post about not fearing regulation to offer some real food for thought. It's true - mass adoption will only raise the price of crypto, and regulation would definitely imply mass adoption. I also find interesting the link between the world bank and Ripple.

Regulating Crypto has not in any case kill the market and has we know about crypto volatility with this we are on safer side if their is regulation attached to it in order to minimize if not stabilize it the Crypto. But this not not limit that the regulation can have adverse effect on Crypto but the benefit outweigh it.

Not sure if crypto will be died but there will be a lot of restriction by use crypto to make actual transaction. The only important thing if crypto still pegged with centralized exchange site which means the fact that government is able to control centralized exchange site just what already done by PBOC to all of these china exchange sites. It's not end of crypto we waiting for future decentralized exchange site.

Governments and banks start to realize how dangerous could be bitcoin for their power, and of course they start to react.
But without a global agreement, local effort to control the cryptomarket won't have any results.

The regulation is needed to build the bridge between crypto and a real money. Without any regulation there will be a crysis very soon for sure. But of course as any change it won't be easy.

I do not believe that regulations kill the market. There are also positive sides to regulations. Regulations not only bring restrictions but also security for investors.
In other words, if a company behaves incorrectly with its investors, then you can sue this company as an investor. In addition, minimum requirements for entry into the market are created,
which means that fraud can be stopped. With these given securities, more people dare to invest in this market. This in turn increases the market by an enormous size.
Of course, there are disadvantages as well, but I think the advantages clearly outweigh this.

Regulation is a good thing and needed imo. The fact is most exchanges are already compliant , its just the politicians are usually a few years behind the curve and even when they do get a bill ready, it takes time to pass and implement. At the moment, each government doesn't really know which way to proceed , hence all the different ideas on what to do coming out from each one. My guess is they will eventually have to get together and come up with a common strategy.

The fear of government losing taxes and the banks losing their jobs is generating the pressure from them. These are fundamental issues that are affecting the cryptocurrency market. However the market will eventually adjust to balance itself. There is nothing to be afraid of because the blockchain is so decentralized that there is nothing they can do about it than to accept what's on ground.

My opinion for the regulations are that they will help the market. Yes, at first they will hurt it, but after everything became more regulated, I think that there will be a big investments from people who did not invest now, mainly because there are no regulations.

Government placing restrictions on cryptocurrency is not necessary a bad thing. It has its pros and cons. For instance it will go a long way to control the activities of the whales. It doesn't mean cryptocurrency is coming to an end. I believe the market will regulate itself because the forces of demand and supply will always win. However governments should not try to introduce policy that will discourage people from getting involved in the Crypto world. What I expect them to do is to create a platform that will protect the interest of all and sundry.

I have to agree with this. I think it is mostly because some countries are trying to regulate cryptocurrency. This has a big impact on the market because if some countries would restrict investments or put some restrictions in handling cryptocurrency, that will limit the number of people investing into the cryptoworld. Nowadays, its fairly different from how it was because of these attempts to regulate.

It is the beginning of a reality kicking in. It is kind of unreal to have a 1000% returns, isn't it? Most people will end up loosing 99% of what they think they "have" today. History is a great teacher, we should listen sometimes... (although ETH and a few other projects will survive and then some, that's the 1% that will remain for them being really useful).

Last year had been phenomenal, not just for Bitcoins alone but altcoins too saw some extreme push in their prices.
I think this year may be called as the "corrective" year for the whole crypto world which has created a dilemma in the markets after Governments diving in to eat their share. It's not important to see those pumps as they are not a good thing, seriously. They just downgrade the credibility of a coin when its price plummets whether in fiat or btc. I think that regulations are fine unless the citizens of that country are willing to show their Bitcoin trading or earnings activities as all these Govs need is that their dominance should be kept on top always.

Regulation + crypto hmm? maybe in some manner..like when cashing out or whatever. But looks like many people don't understand that crypto's were supposed to be decentralized and not regulated. And if this gets forgotten and discouraged, we can all start using fiat again. I don't really see the advantage of crypto or bitcoin anymore in that case.

No, absolutely. Governments and banks have apparently hysterical reactions, trying to stop the cryptomarket.
But my impression is that they are just trying to manipulate the price, pushing it down: they want to enter in the crypto market, and they want to make this move less expensive possible.
So, they spread alarmist news, people panic and sell, and they make a cheap shopping. (and a big profit)

In my opinion it is a good thing to  avoid scam coin to operate in a regulated countries. If that happens, only legit  cryptocurrency will survive and all tose shitcoins will disappear or at least minimize. I miss the time where there are only few coins that you are monitoring and it is easy to pick or spot a good coin that has a real or solid project.

I don't think it is killing the market but surely in the short term it is hampering the confidence that is in the markets. Once this regulation passes though I maintain a bullish sentiment and don't see many problems coming from this. Although I will say I don't want private blockchains to be a result of this regulation, that is something that I don't want happening on any level.

Regulations are good thing, mostly now, because many people want to invest in the crypto market, but they won’t because they are not secure. Everywhere is talking about how unsecure is the cryptocurrency world, and how not to invest in it. But after the regulations, the market at first will go down, but then Up, so I am all in for regulations. Go for it! ;)

I don't think it will kill off the market completely, just a temporary blip while we see what they are going to do. The big winners will be decentralised exchanges and privacy coins but lets just see how it all pans out.

We already experienced so many such impact specially when China banned ICOs in their country, but even from that the market recover its position which we even not expecting so early, therefore I think that the current dept will also be temporary and very soon we will see the price of bitcoin increasing in a good way and will even make more high records in near future.

Theoretically yes it can kill cryptocurrencies, this is the only way that these banks or government can stop the bitcoin's and cryptocurrencies dominating market, but i doubt there will still be some countries that will fully support it.In our life there will always be a positve and negative, yin and yang in this case banks and governments are mostly the yang and we the users are the yin.

All still recovered and became much better. Some countries' decisions on bitcoin regulation have a negative impact, but we should also see that there are still some countries and agencies that support bitcoin. That is a positive thing because when everyone feels the benefits of using bitcoin then more and more people are interested in using bitcoin. This is a matter of waiting time, now we have to wait for the right momentum and also continue to have the optimism that the world of cryptocurrencies will become much more developed than it is today.

Crypto market is decentralize and unregulated that's why it is prone to scam and theft. ICOs as an example are proliferating like mushrooms that's why government and large financial institution are enforcing to regulate such activities related to cryptocurrencies to protect also the citizens and small time investors about their hard earned money. Ther is nothing wrong with the cryptocurrency it gives us a financial freedom but some scammers and con artist are abusing the crytpocurrency to gain for their personal interest.

Regulating doesn't necessarily means it will restrict users. Regulating crypto will ease people's doubt about it. Once it's regulated a system in the government will monitor cryptocurrencies and they would ensure users of its security. It's a win win situation both for developers and users because of the possible increase of market sales.

true, crypto market can not be set. then most governments can not formalize its existence because cryptocurrency is vulnerable to crime. This modern technology has been widely recognized in most countries, because it has decentralized properties, so the government insists that for every government cryptocurrency user will not be fully responsible for the risks it will face.

It depends from the regulation, I think in general regulation is a good thing, because it is not a prohibition :) It shows that government recognize the crypto and after the regulation people will be able to use it with some restrictions but legally.

I don't think regulating crypto is killing the market. In all effect it should be helping the market.

If ICO's are regulated I think more people will have a positive feeling towards crypto and the money will start
flowing into the markets.

By regulating ICO's there will be less scams, less projects and essentially this will narrow the market down
and funds could be spread over the fewer projects.

In my opinion it is just shaking weak hands and whales accumulating the most promising tokens. It is better to wait until things settle down and re-enter market again. Regulations in long term is good for crypto.

I believe the bias of the current crypto universe towards regulations is actually what is causing the bearish market.
Think about it, realistically there is no way the SEC will allow this kind of industry to go on unchecked. It cannot happen.
What I believe is the SEC needs to move fast with whatever rules and regulations that will be introduced to safely guard the crypto-sphere and make it safer for everyone involved.
Thinking of it, they don't really hate cryptos.

The regulation should be needed to protect the investors from those scammers. It may add to this slowing down the price but sooner investors will probably accept those regulations and the market will returns to a bullish trend.

I think a country's regulation of crypto has a positive effect, although its spreading becomes limited. but it will not make the crypto world die.

the state just wants to adopt and control the crypto world, so crypto can have a good influence on the public. they hope by making crypto regulation, there is no money laundering with the blockchain system, and also no crime by using crypto. and crypto only for transactions. so, I do not think regulation will kill the crypto world, but it will only hinder its spread.

Thats right when country try to regulate cryptocurrency, this thing will happen in the market.
But when we think good side of regulation, we will be not in scam area where recently so many ico are scam because of lack of regulation which make the founder can be easy as scammer.

I agree that the regulation of crypto-currencies has positive consequences, such as protection against fraud. However, regulation is contrary to the essence of digital money - decentralization, the absence of a single control center, distribution among users. Small regulation helps and protects users, but it can cross borders and become total control.

Regulation of the crypto currency is a necessary and indispensable condition for its further development. The Crypto currency can not simply exist on the Internet without its binding to a particular territory and its recognition by the state on whose territory it will go. Regulation of the crypto currency simultaneously means that the state classifies the crypto currency, determines the conditions for its circulation and takes under the protection of the actions of its laws. In most cases this also means the introduction of its taxation. Without this, we can not do without vseravno. It is better to pay taxes and be sure of the legality and stability of their profits in the crypto currency.

Regulations AND Taxes have already killed cryptocurrencies.

I laugh loud at those that think this taxes actually mean something positive. Taxes can be payed when you win money. But you are ACTUALLY LOSING IT. So, whenever you will need to cash out, since the government does not know at which price you bought, they will tax you as if that money was a profit, when, indeed, it's a lost.

Consider this. If the profit for a miner right now mining ETH, is just a few cents per card per day, can you imagine losing more money in taxes???

And what about those big whales??? do you think THEY HAVE NO OTHER PLACE TO PUT THEIR MONEY TO EVADE TAXES??? Are you all MAD????

The key here is: when did the apocallypse of crypto begun??? Well....the moment governments and banks begun talking about taxes , regulations and problably the end of anonymity.

In spain, btw, the government has started asking 16 exchanges and all the banks, to trace and track all operations with crypto and communicate that you the government so that the equivalent in Spain of the SEC, can crash those investors.

Cryptomarket is dead, and laws , regulations and Taxes have not even begun.

Don't be morons.

Most of us joined the crypto to earn fast and easy money, due to high volatility of the market and not just because the crypto market wasn't regulated. As for me I think that legalization even with taxes will attract more people to this market. A good example is South Korea, despite the regulation and high taxes people continue to trade and invest in crypto.

I think that everything depends on regulation. If it is minimal then I think that it is even better for the market and for its participants (especially small investors who can not influence the market). And if regulation is tough, then this is usually bad for the market and a possible serious fall may be a consequence of this.

it depends on what and how exactly is regulated. The best way is to make some rules for cryptoexchanges, to avoid big scams and to ensure some risks. Crypto may be used incognito, but exchanges - don't see anything bad if we know actual owners and if they make some fund for force majeure. From the other side, if the goverment tries to control every transaction - it will bring nothing positive, only more scam and fraud.

I think government want to regulate cryptocurrency transaction because government want to collect taxes from crypto transaction. I am believe that regulation is on exchanger, because we make transaction mostly on exchanger

Stop asking whether it is end of crypto or not. I hope really much that the presence of people who look for easy gains in crypto community comes to an end. Under all the limitations and regulations there comes the time for new approaches and business schemes.

whatever will be utilized by the government, I think the regulation will have a positive effect on bitcoin, imagine many parties will receive bitcoin and then there will be mass adoption that happens because many people already believe in bitcoin, of course the price will rise very high and we as investors would be get a big profit right ?

The regulation should be needed to protect the investors from those scammers. It may add to this slowing down the price but sooner investors will probably accept those regulations and the market will returns to a bullish trend.

I am in favor of cryptocurrency regulation where investors are protected from certain frauds and misleading investment opportunities using cryptocurrencies. As most of the newbies and average joes misunderstood most of it, they are in FUD mode to sell and withdraw their cryptocurrencies. As for regulation, it does not kill the market because the banks and government have no way to stop decentralized transactions. They just want to control it and impose taxes on whatever profit we have in cryptocurrencies.

For the scammers and pump and dump coins is a bd news as now they cannot scam the users by giving false details and run away. If the project is good then it wont affect this news. Regulating will protect the users investment.

No, I don't think so, really. More to say - crypto sometimes is just impossible to regulate and even the most strict laws do not have an extraordinary impact on crypto.

Goverment may think they are regulating the crypto market but i think its not possible.
They cannot regulate privacy coins. This is why they are made and thats why goverments don't like crypto coins.

Regulation will enable large investors to enter the market without fear. They will be protected in front of the controllers. Therefore, it will give a good growth of the market in the future.

It's hard to state what exactly impacts the crypto market. In my humble opinion, the news around the crypto can have some impact, and the news about new regulation decisions, too. But the regulation itself doesn't have any impact.

IMO, it is consider an okayish approach
It might not kill the Crpyto market as imo it is not a bad approach but just that they wanted to have control over the market - Not really good in some case

As far as I know, large investors are entering the market now. They want to make money, not just save their investments. I think the market is partly artificially constrained to buy cheap. Too much whales' money. And too much power.

The crypto market is still at its in its early stages of its life. Cryptocurrency just started at 2009 with Bitcoin and its not been 10 years since and there are still innovations that can be made in the crypto market and there are still many market that can be integrated with the decentralized blockchain technology. Also if each token/altcoin can be used not only in the exchange platform but can be used in every day living then it will grow much further.

I think that correction after such growth was inevitable. Even if regulators did not exist at all. Now when the situation with regulators is decided again, there will be huge growth due to the flow to the crypto market of legal money.

regulation is needed for ICOs and exchanges .
in past many exchanges filed for bankruptcy but many people had doubt that they did scam inside .

even ICOs do false promises and without any expert team they want to steal funds .
so regulation may curb this issue .

Governments and banks start to realize how dangerous could be bitcoin for their power, and of course they start to react.
But without a global agreement, local effort to control the cryptomarket won't have any results.

No, it's not. regulating crypto is a sign of adapting it, it is just one of the best ways to protect the public from unethical crypto companies to take advantage of the investors weaknesses.
If crypto isn't regulated then there would be more scam and fraud victims today.
regulation will help the investors' security as crypto organizations and companies cannot hide from the authorities when they are acting non professional activities that will end up bagging investors' money.

I think it will be really difficult to regulate crypto for the governments, but regulation is an important step towards the legalisation of the crypto, so this process has positive sides, too.

Fact. The market is unstable but I would not be so worried. When it comes to quick earnings. It has never been so easy, it's possible :). Only patience ...

You're wrong. Regulations will definitely be of more harm that good. One reason why most of the people you see in the community got involved in the first place is because of regulations of traditional financial services. Decentralization means those regulations and intermediates are cut off. There won't be anything left to scam if regulations comes into the space.

The good old days could be gone, but this does not mean that crypto regulation will kill the market! The initiators will simply move to crypto currency friendly countries and offer their businesses their. With the decentralization of the ICO and crypto coin projects there is anyway not much a country can do against it.

You said back in January that the market was boring because the coins were in price? It is interesting then, what is your opinion about the market now, after another three months of stagnation in the market? Or are you no longer in the crypto-currency world?
Crypto currency can not constantly grow in price. It will necessarily fall periodically in its value and for a certain time lie on the price day. Therefore, to get a good profit, we need to learn patience and expect a new rise in the crypto-currency market.
