Title: Why are so many bitcoin website "unsecured" Post by: crema on January 15, 2011, 09:39:54 PM Hi there,
I have noted that many websites of the bitcoin sphere are unsecured: my browser often shows warning messages. Did you note that ? It is something I worry about. I've seen a few self-signed certificates. Bitcoin users are more familiar with cryptography, and are therefore more likely to enable HTTPS without buying a "real" certificate. Bitcoin.org itself is self-signed. Title: Re: Why are so many bitcoin website "unsecured" Post by: crema on January 15, 2011, 10:06:38 PM Example: http://bitcoinlaundry.com/
http://www.bitcoin.fr/ http://blockexplorer.com/ The warning appears on both Firefox and Chrome... Never had the problem before, with ordinary websites Title: Re: Why are so many bitcoin website "unsecured" Post by: theymos on January 15, 2011, 10:11:06 PM Example: http://bitcoinlaundry.com/ http://www.bitcoin.fr/ http://blockexplorer.com/ Two of those sites aren't even providing HTTPS. It must be a problem with your browser. What does the error message say? Did you note that ? It is something I worry about. Please specify what you were doing and what these warning messages told you, best is to make screenshots. It just mean that many of these sites don't have signed certificate. I think crema has a problem with his browser because he gets warnings visiting https://bitcoin-central.net/ even though my certificate is properly signed by my certification authority.
