I always wonder why do people say "I am gambling for fun and not for the money".
Why do you use money at all to gamble? There are plenty gambling sites in which you can easily play with fun money, play money or "whatever it is called" money. Why do you use money to gamble for fun? *
I don't really understand this whole "gambling for fun and entertainment" idea and not "gambling to win money".
Whoever is gambling for fun using real money please reply and be honest.

I remember when I was a child we can gamble even without money. We can make fun and become happy without money when we play. So, we can play without it right? Maybe gamble with money can make the fun more tense it can make them nervous when they already lose some of their money or can make them happy when they winning the game. Sometimes a lot of people made excuses when it comes in gambling even though they keep on telling about it "we only gamble because we seek fun" but we can see them very disappointed and sad when they already lose their money.

Well it's a basic thing for most of the gamblers to say they play for fun, for us money is secondary, fun is primary, most of the gambler's really have enough money, but we lack the thrill, the fun in real life and that is then made up by gambling the thrill when it's going red to green and suddenly you win, that's the kind of excitement and fun that most of the people here or your life will tell you. They're not lying to you, but that's the fact it is with gambler, you need to see it from our eyes.

This is wrong assumption, most of gamblers don't have enough money.
I don't understand this:

Money is secondary, fun is primary - but thrill is when you win money - which you said you have enough of. It is contradiction because you said money isn't important and than you said it is thrill to win money = gambling to win money?

There is only a thrill in gambling when you have a chance to lose.

It is not actually the winning that drives the gambling, it is the excitement that you get from the chance of winning and losing when gambling.

If you play for play money, there will be little excitement.

To be honest most of the people are gambling for earning money over the fun purpose.So they are risking there money to earn more money in quick time but most of them will lose them.But sometimes I play poker games with money on mobile that is giving a good adrenaline pump so of we play with real money then it will be more interesting.

Usually people play gambling is for fun, but use real money to play to earn more money. If the people want play gambling but not have much money to play gambling is hard to play. So fun still number 1. Gambling is only accept money, because of that play gambling need use real money.
They hope gambling can make them earn fast money.

I always did it for fun with my real money, made some and lost somewhat in Bitcoins but all I was focused upon was the fact that I wanted to enjoy the matches a bit more and believe me, when you bet on such games, you get more excited than you normally do. The value of Bitcoins was not that high during times due to which losing them didn't bother me too much but now I regret why I placed those bets. That's just one regret that I feel, may never go out of my heart.

Some of them they gambled their money just for fun at the same time if they have a lucky they earned money.
Because gambling without using money you can't serious it to play but by putting money to gambled you always chasing every round just to win. But playing gambled for me is having a limitation to my self even though it is for fun because i'm afraid that instead just for fun turn to gambling addiction.
Mostly some rich people while relaxing they like in gambling as a hang outs.

I used to play poker with my friends and I can tell you that the difference between playing without money and playing with just a little bit (like 1 € or 1 $) is huge. When we were playing with just chips nobody cared a lot about the result and were going all in pretty loose. Then, we started playing Sit and Goes with just 1 € (plus 1 rebuy) and people were playing tighter and they were more thrilled, even though 1 € is nothing for us.

Apart from that, I think you are right when you say that many gamblers don’t have enough money. There are gamblers that think of gambling as a solution to their problems, but they won’t admit it. If you asked them they would say that they play for fun but that’s simply not true and deep inside they know that, unless they are very lucky, miraculously lucky, they are heading to bankruptcy. 

However, there are other gamblers, responsible ones,  who play with very small amounts of money in relation to their income, and for them the difference of playing with money or playing with play money, is a difference on how thrilling the game is, as some others have said.

Simply because when you play with real money you are gambling, and when you are playing without real money you are just playing... The excitement feeling is different, your imagination doesn't go ahead. Even if you gamble for fun, your imagination creates different possibilities, like winning some nice amount of money. It "plays" with our brain, our emotional. Without money makes no sense, losing, winning... Both will result in nothing.

Gamblers play to feel satisfaction in the end, without money they won't feel anything...

I agree that there is no thrill if you can't lose money but I also think there is better ways for thrill and fun and that's why I don't buy whole "i gamble for fun" reason.
Beside, whoever entered casino for first time in his life didn't do it because of thrill, he entered casino because someone bragged with big win or something. No one remembers thrill and loses next day and everyone remembers only how much money they've won.

People play different when they want to win money no matter how small amount is. They care about their money and they want to win money, otherwise you and your friends would have go all in - after all it is very small amount, right? Correct me if I am wrong. :)
Money brings fun factor to gambling, without money it can't be called gambling,I agree on that but I don't agree that people are gambling only for fun and not to win money.
I don't see any logic in playing game which purpose is only to win or lose money and saying that you are not doing it for money. After all, many people are using dicebots and scripts to play, so tell me, where is fun in that if everyone plays for fun?

In my view, no one wants to gamble for fun even they are showcasing themselves like they do gamble only for fun. If a gambler wants only fun they just playing a video game or just watching a horror or thriller movie will be more than enough to find those similar entertainments. There will be no need of spending hard earned money for finding pleasures.

Gambling thrills only for the people who risk their money. They do expect big fortune for their spending. If it happens or there will be any symptoms of any positive approach then they do get big excitement which makes them keep trying. Usually they do lose at some point of time and then do call themselves as fun seeking gambler.

Most gamblers usually follow some well assumed steps like these :

Step-1 : Gamble with real money
Step-2 : If get profits then go to step-1, else go to step-3
Step-3 : Declare : found the real worth of money. Still go to step-1

Yes, that has also to do with what I said before: some people will say that they gamble for fun but they what they are really after is money. For some others, money is not that important but they are not playing just for fun.

I guess it's more fun to get an interaction between two or more players because you will see the excitements and the cheering of your friends and the crowds. The feeling of winning is somehow indefinable yet you are losing because you don't want to stop but if you are so lucky enough you can bring your winnings while you can give some tips or give away to your friends.

I believe we play for money too, but it's not the mainly reason, that is the difference.

We are just not seeing gambling as method to make profit, it's a common mistake many people commit, trying to use gambling as it was trading for an example.

About these people using bots to gamble I don't know where is the fun as they aren't really playing, but just setting some configurations to gamble afk.  :)

Also another thing is that when you go in physical casino their is no other option available where you would have to give the money and get tokens only to play any of the games. You can enjoy with your friends, have a snacks or beverages which they give for free in some casinos, play for fun and if you win good else you forget the loss as you are not additive and do not want to play just to win money from it.

People gamble just to have fun and used fiat money also to make some profit of course which make them more happy. Gambling is a game of risk, because you are risking the money just to be happy for that day which you can do this on a different way. When you used fiat money you will feel the excitement and I think this is the reason why they keep using real money.

Imagine saying - I am risking my money to go to cinema, which is sort of entertainment.

Gamble without money isn't fun, and if we can get money in gambling we'll more fun although we shouldn't just use a little amount amount to gamble and if we lose there we'll not be regret. May be thats why i use little money to gamble.

Playing for fun hasn't been a good enough reason for me to gamble but for those that deem it healthy i think most have the money to loose and they can afford to loose them that is why they want  o exchange it for that kind of fun. Interacting with people around especially in the case of the casinos is really cool also and have helped me build a lot of good relationships outside my usual sphere of contact.

Many people playing gambling for the intention of making money so they are risking the real money to make more money.I am not a big gambler I will only do less often and with very less bets,I can't afford too much money for gambling or fun purpose.But many people can afford to lose real money for fun so they are playing with real moeny.

Everyone has their own reasons why they are gambling and I think if this doesn't hurt us in any way, we should let them be and just respect their reasons. Let's be honest around here, there are a lot of people who are saying this and there are a lot of people who are like this. They wanted to have fun even though they are losing money. Those people are most likely whales around here.

Well, it is more on playing on their psychological thinking that it having fun with the use of money is better than without the use of money.

Yeah, I tired to gamble on few sites which gave some free money to gamble and do not let withdraw in case of Win. This type of gambling is really bring as there is no feeling of loss. Even if you loss, you will lose nothing and no matter how big you win, you can't get that amount as it is just artificial money gambling.

You know it is not enjoyable to gamble if there is no money involved because all gambling sites and casinos involved money so that you have no option if you really want to gamble for fun you must have money. Other than making gambling as fun they also gamble for an extra income because if they lose still they are happy because they enjoy the game and if they win then they really really happy because other than gaining fun they also gained profit.

I like to watch the matches which I'm interested in more excitement and that excitement you can get when you bet a small amount on those matches. If you play with free money you will not get the same excitement at least for me so I usually bet with a small amount. I'm a recreational players who play for fun with money so I'll try to answer your question. Why do I gamble for fun with real money? Simple answer, because there is always a hope to win something while I'm having fun with the game. If I only play with playmoney or whatever it is called then it can be called as gamble because there is no risks involved if using playmoney.
Gamble for fun does not mean that I'm looking for fun only, obviously I'm looking for profit but thats not the main purpose. Gamble for fun should be something where we wont regret if we lose the money. That is what gamble for fun means for me.

For me as ive experience. I think that using money in gambling just for fun is a common thing we are seen since you are playing with mkney because you cannot play without money and you can also have fun during playing and wining. Like childrens they playing just for fun that was also like in gambling terms. You play nit just to have money but also fun. More money more happiness more fun but when you are greedy about it you will never win and it will make you anger rather than happy.

Most people gamble or play in casinos using real money so maybe one of the reasons would be they got used to using real money. Or it could be because it is different or like the feeling is different when you use your real money when gambling. Gambling small amounts which you can afford to lose means you are responsible gambler. Also gambling small amounts doesn't mean you are playing for fun.

I am not whale and I like to chase jackpots and I usually play games with high payouts. I do it because I want to win money and it is fun to win but it is not to lose. Thrill and excitement are all the way, but that is not my reason. I also buy lottery ticket once per month but there isn's any excitement or thrill in that because I check numbers few days latter. So your "whale" point is wrong.

I play games using money because I was not enjoy playing anything with any bets. I was in lazy when I play without any bet, maybe if I win trophy or medal that's the game I focused to win. But if I play for nothing, like playing basketball without bets, medal or anything I was not enjoy it.

I think people gamble because they want to earn money in an instant but they know that the chance is little so they are excited to know if they are lucky to win the price or not. And although they lose in the game, they find it fun because of the excitement they feel during the game.

The main reason is that when we do play between real and play money on gambling the thrill and intense on it wont really be experienced along the way which if you do know that you are just playing fake money or free money from the site you wont enjoy the game since you know that youve got nothing to lose no matter what would be the outcome. In my opinion, people gamble with winning as their main goal. Addiction is the hidden effect of this goal which can sometimes be mistaken as 'fun'.

I know a lot of people said that they are gambling for fun, and the reason why they say that is because gambling with mony is more exiting than just palying a normal game, having somthing to risk is more exciting and gives it more flavor, the feel when you are waiting for the resaults the rush that you get from gambling does not exist if you are just playing for nothing, besiades i am only talking about the people who spend like a 30 to 20$ not the ones who put like a 1000$ and excpect to have fun.

I gamble for fun but I need money too. Gambling for fun for me means that whenever I lose money from my habits, I try to prevent that loss from hurting my finances and my life. If I play with "fake money" I will not have fun. Nothing is free in this world including fun!

I think this is a great question.  I usually play for real money now... as when I'm working I usually work very hard, with long and odd hours.  I have a few hobbies that I enjoy that get me out and about with friends so those are a nice break from my hectic work. 

One of my hobbies is gambling and I do it to relax, have some fun and stop my brain from thinking about work.  Its almost like a reward to myself for working hard and is definitely a distraction.

I've tried to gamble for play money on freeslots in the past, but it was not much fun for me.  I found nothing to gain from it and it got boring after I had 20,000,000+ fake coins.  If I was going to play for free I would rather play in a poker free roll instead, where there was an opportunity to win something of value.   Or at least interact with people.

Also sometimes, I like to try something new with gambling so would go to a new casino after researching their reputation.  I may try a no deposit bonus, if the new casino had one... just to see how the sites games played, but many times they are hard to clear as they have high roll overs... there are a few exceptions though that I was able to clear easily.

I used to gamble for high stakes, but every now and then I challenge myself by making a tiny deposit into an online casino and see how far I can take it.   So far my best run at these self challenges has been from a tiny ~2mbtc deposit up to a respectable ~400mbtc withdrawal!  It took me a full 7 hours to do that though, but I really enjoyed myself.  Plus the extra income never hurts!  So its not always that I have to gamble on high stakes, but I like the challenge of trying to win.

I guess when I play sports its a similar feeling for me.    I could hit, kick or throw a ball with some friends for a while and not keep score... but its so much more fun when we play an actual game, and we keep score, and then someone can win the game right?

Just remember, bankroll management is important.  So try not to play for more than you can afford to lose and you should always have fun.  If you have a problem gambling, or if it stops being fun, consider that it may be time for you to take a break and try another pass time that you can enjoy more?

I like how you think because that's what I thought of for a long time. It's like risking something of value to something that you can get with no risk. Like playing usually or hanging out with friends. You can get fun with that. But as time goes by, probably people get bored, and they want something that is exciting, perhaps that's why they gamble even if they use real money or something like that.

From what I know there is a difference of fun and excitement of winning real money from play money. Of course you are risking your own money just a chance to win more with it, the fun and excitement will be less when you are just playing with free money which we all know don't have any value at all to us. Lets say both of us can afford to lose 50$, so your logic is:

Gambling with 50$ just for fun(YOU) = good = entertainment = thrill = excitement = everyone is happy
Gambling with 50$ to win money(ME) = wrong = addiction = not fun = losing money I earned = everyone is sad

A thing cant be called gambling if you wont place money on it which means if you do just play without using real money i dont really consider it as gambling and you are actually right that most people do say here that they do gamble for fun but yet they are still using their own money to seek out for that fun that they mention. We dont have the rights on how they do spend their money but yet these things will normally bring them down when it comes to financial.

It's not about playing for fun, sometimes people bet because of competition. When I was playing volleyball, we will make a bet and the winner will take it all. If we do this, the competition gets better and serious. Everyone hates to lose and if you add money on the table, it will be more interesting. There are times that it got personal but we're okay with that because our main goal is to improve everyday and compete. Money is just adding a bit of flavor to the game.

Absolutely, because money is considered as one of a valuable things on earth and it makes all the people around for being busy just to have money and if we put our money in a situation with unpredictable outcome like betting it on gambling then surely will always feel thrilled and excitement in every rounds of game to think about the result. This is exciting game and I don’t think there is any entertainment or fun in this. Why people are only getting fun against wasting their own wealth.

When I first gamble online about 3 years ago, I am contented in the free btc given by the site primedice for the starter to be able to play (Im playing for fun though). But as time passes I became greed to earn huge amount so I used my own money, unfortunately I became addicted in gambling. It takes time when I finally overcome my addiction and its already in the past.

I rarely gamble now but still using my own money however this time I have self control especially I know my priorities and I learned from the past mistakes.

If entire gambling industry is working in your way then probably no one is gambling for finding the entertainment. Because, as per your statement, when you are targeting making real money from gambling, you are getting the actual pleasure you are looking for. It means if you do not use your real money then you will not care about the ups and downs oscillation of your money while playing.

After your opinion that I understand that no one in this world is trying gambling for finding entertainment. They are all gambling for finding easy money. In the process of finding that easy money they are getting some entertainment as a byproduct.

Well I dont see any problem when you play gambling just for fun. Because its your money, its your choice where and when you are going to use it. Because you have all the control with it. Also, the money acts as an 'incentive' and people feel rewarded whenever they win the game. Not only does it add to thrill and excitement, but this source of entertainment has made people felt that they are rewarded. I think it has something to do with the stress relieving aspect of gambling. For me it's definitely the thing. Why do people play bowling for fun using real money? Why do they play many other games when you have to pay your money to play a game in which you can't win anything? I think for the same reason. That's a healthy approach to gambling btw. I play because i already have really big money,it's for my knowledge and for fun at the same time,i think also we need it in life like foods but always think you play because you can afford that,everyday life of a person need to be happy so we need to play even we risk some money and if you lose then try again and again until you win but do it for fun and do it sometimes only.

The first impression they are looking for entertainment, things changed time after time, you would think you have to win this one and so on. There's no fun when you have to lose too much money, it's hurt and not acceptable.

If it was only possible to not lose any money that you can still earn meaning there is no risk with your own money but High come back in returns. But that's impossible because nothing is like that and if it is afraid to you then it's probably a scam. Just enjoy the fun when you win and don't be too emotional.

This one should be the main point of "gamble for fun". Just like when we spend some money for our hobby e.g fishing, sports, watching movies at the cinema, etc. For an activity that gives us some fun, it is reasonable if we should spend some money including gambling. You may also compare it to trading in a demo account and trading in a live one. You can be a winning trader on a demo account but a loser on a live account. Emotions play a big difference.

Playing for fun by using real money will add excitement to the game for the players. And I think this will only apply for those people who have a lot of money to waste. Some players are gambling to gain. Just like the people I know who are gamblers. Where in gambling become their "job" they rely entirely with gambling as an income.

because I think if people are only playing gambling, they cannot use their time to do other things and they can spend all of their money in all day. the government thinks this will makes people losing their money at the table and they become lazy to start a new work. there are many places or activities that we can use to have fun and not only playing gambling but unfortunately, many people attracted to gambling games to get fun and they don't realize that this will make them become addicting in gambling.

You don`t have many gamblers on this forum, you have more people that like to talk about it and get paid for that talk rather then gamble. Using real money on gambling is more safe than using your bitcoin, if you use fiat on gambling, you could not lose too much, but if you are going to use bitcoin, you are going to lose too much profits since its price is more high than the price of fiat, it is a wise move. For the same reason why alcohol was banned in the USA from 1920 to 1933, and was banned in some other countries during various periods of time. Yes, most people use it for fun drinking responsibly. But there are others, they are called alcoholics, who abuse it turning their life into hell. To protect the abusers governments ban alcohol, some beneficial drugs, gambling etc. Do these measures make the life of the abusers better? I don't think so. I personally want to play gambling for making money, i do no think that  there is any sense to play gambling for getting fun and enjoyment while putting our money in risk. Yes, when there is nothing to be rewarded after the end the game goes on. The same when placed with certain betting amount, automatically the game becomes more thrilled. Losing for money for fun is inevitable.  If you want leisure, you need to spend money to get it.  It is the same as going on a picnic, vacation, and watching movie.  Gambling is  different in with regards of there is a possibility that you will win money.  You can play gambling moderately and have fun, spend the allocated fund for it and stop when it is emptied.  Does it not the same with watching movies, playing videos in arcade game except that with gambling, there is a chance that you will get more than what you bet.

I am afraid the subject is too literal in a whole lot of sense. Well I cannot think of any other ways to gamble but with the use of real money (of course this includes anything of value which may be any property). These people are saying they are merely gambling for fun because they are betting onto something greater than what they have. It just connotes a state of mind or personality should they lose along the way. We have to take what they commonly say with a grain of salt because it will not get you anywhere if you keep on dwelling on this alone. I hope this explanation of mine helps!

I don't see anything bad with spending real money to have fun in gambling. Just make sure that money spent is really just your extra and not needed to pay for expenses.

Gambling is a job? So being a gambler now is a profession where people can get money to sustain their families? Though i agree with most of what you said, this isn't actually making sense to me. A job gives you a consistent flow of money so you can support your family. It's not something that will risk you not being able to provide.

Most of the time we know that there is no chance of winning even though we use to play to relax our self. To be honest you posted your reason several times on forum already, so I am not sure that I understand why "gambling to win/earn money" become "gambling for fun". I didn't say that it isn't fun to gamble, yeah, thrill excitement, entertainment, fun is part of gambling but I don't think this is final goal - which most people are saying - gambling for fun and entertainment only.

rich people playing gambling for fun and for the social gathering to meet the new friends with same level of life the wiining money are only an additional benefits from them.
