Title: Kyle91 AKA How to increase your ignore list
Post by: jackjack on August 30, 2013, 11:18:32 PM
Isn't there some kind of minimum quality one's posts must reach?
Kyle91 already made 150+ posts full of non-sense/useless sentences, always only 1 sentence per post btw
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=143820;sa=showPosts

I didn't find it really annoying at the beginning but I'm seeing him on more and more threads

Why does this bother you?

Short, low quality posts are indications of a scammer.

It also bothers me when scammers try and integrate into my community.

Why does this bother you?

I asked a simple question and would like a simple answer:
Quote
Isn't there some kind of minimum quality one's posts must reach?

Then I provided an exemple
That's all I did

This is becoming an off-topic, feel free to spam the BT++ thread for questions like that
But no, the hash on the list page is obviously not the corresponding password

The problem is not the size, it's that you say nothing worthwhile

Still I didn't call for a ban, I just asked if such worthlessness was authorized here

We should create a list of "One Sentence or less" people who post useless comments to increase their post count.  Like mentioned above, these users contribute nothing but clutter on the forum.

2450+ posts full of non-sense/useless sentences
User LaudaM https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=101872  Has over nearly 2500 one line posts.

I dont know whether to laugh or cry!
You worry about his "low quality post count" and that he might look suspicious?

And this: "Still I didn't call for a ban, I just asked if such worthlessness was authorized here" .....

Like WTF.. with all the known spammers, scammers, suckpuppets etc. you worry about this guy?!

And a staff member responding with: "because you're spamming up the forum with useless posts" "quit strawmaning. answer the damn question."

Well then start moderating!

Allow me to post from another thread:
So you describe a problem, ask for help on solutions...

and the resulting 11 pages that follow are the same problems you describe: vendor hate, people calling people whatever, people talking off topic, with some genuinely trying to address the OP's issue, and etc.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or condescending or any of that, just an honest question:  If you really wanted to change this, why don't you just "moderate"?  you know, like your title says.  Use your common sense/best discretion.  If someone starts bashing BFL in the KNC thread, tell them to stay on topic.  If someone calls someone a whatever tell them to keep it civil.  If Josh calls his customers a moron cuz they want their money back for an undelivered product, tell him to act professional.  If people refuse, just ban them for a bit?  I don't know...

Or don't.  It's up to you.  Just that most of the other forums I goto, this is what the "moderator" tends to do.

I love this forum.

Don't get me wrong, if I were the admin I'd ban his ass.
The point is I know that it's not how the moderation works here, so I just tried to make mods aware of this to have their opinion of this kind of things.

By the way, I report spammers and scammers. Not sockpuppets as they are officially authorized.

there are certain hero members spouting nonsense all day and nothing happened to them yet :)
And I don't think it's a good thing
Trolling, off-topic posting and one-sentence long posts could be tolerated IMO. But if every single post is in any of those three categories then why keeping the guy?

I propose posts being marked as useless/ no content. If a user accumulates enough of these they lose rank, the posts should also not count under the regular postcount.

There needs to be a system where a post has some sort of classification.

No-one can be a true hero member if all they posted was 1000 posts in the newbie section saying "hello" over a 6 month long period of time.

This is serious flaw in this forum's ranking system, one that needs to be fixed.

Trolling, off-topic posting and one-sentence long posts could be tolerated IMO. But if every single post is in any of those three categories then why keeping the guy?

My words.
I believe that this is the right threshold for an action against such members.
I'd not feel comfortable if i'd have to be afraid to make a post that's not strictly on-topic, or a post that one single moderator could find not enough politically correct. :-) But this is quite relaxed approach and I'd be more than satisfied with such solution. Individuals whose all (or nearly all) posts are of those types should really be banned IMO.

Title: Re: Kyle91 AKA How to increase your ignore list
Post by: Welsh on September 18, 2013, 11:58:57 AM
I agree. If members are only replying to posts with useless & in no way helping the community then what is the point? 1-3 word posts some times can be enough to answer the question or give the answer. But, the posts that say "awesome" are really not needed. If you need to thank someone for actually pointing out something then tell them in a personal message. Most newbies now are spamming the "Hello welcome to the forums" posts. I agree that this is a nice way to greet people. But, when they only send them messages it can be very irritating. It seems a lot lurk around the newbie areas and just wait for a introduction post.

I believe useless posters should be warned and banned eventually if they continue doing it. But, we do need to find a definition for useless posts. Does useless posts mean what the moderators think is useless on a individual basis? Or is it going to be a different  system?

I think 'nearly' all posts or the majority of their posts are what we have discussed to be the definition of useless posts, for example 1 word posts then they should be warned then banned.

I can remember having to report a thread not long ago because someone made a sock puppet and were counting together, 1, 2, 3 right up to 300 it got. They had 300 posts in their first 2 hours of registering that was disgusting. It did get deleted by Tysat eventually though.
I normally just ignore people when they add nothing to the community.

- lend coins to people who needs it ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=280675.msg3001297#msg3001297 ).
- borrow coins ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=248377.msg3262101#msg3262101 ).
- how to disable signature.
- where they can find information.
- anything they want...

50% of my posts where directly posted to help and welcome newbie like this one (explaining them the rule, what is activity, what is bitcoin, how it works, transactions, and so on):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=298491.msg3196289#msg3196289

I contacted a guy outside the newbie jail, explained him how to perform a face to face transaction.

This one made 251 useless posts just to be paid more for his signature
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=147773;sa=showPosts

The better being this one:
SO FAR:
10/9/2013 - Added signature!

18/9/13 -  50 Posts!

19/09/13 - 101 Posts!

21/09/13 - 251 Posts!

Thanks Stunna and Ive still got 19 days left!

Yep, that definitely looks like he's made useless posts for money. While I can understand wanting to get more money, like me, I want to do 2k posts this month, it shouldn't mean that all your posts turn to spam >_<

Hello. Welcome to Bitcointalk. Please do not visit the cave to the south. There is a badbear in there.

There's also a grue lurking around somewhere in the dark.

You're likely to be eaten by it.

In all fairness, spamming is annoying, but can't you use the ignore button?

IMO the problem is not what I (or another user) see but what non-bitcoiners see when they lurk the forum

Yes, you are right.
If non-bitcoiners see you trolling all day long they will love btc, but if they see me posting a couple of pictures or welcoming new members they will went mad, it is well known that they dislike polite guys. :D

Get a brain please. I have no idea if you are really over 30, but you should get more mature for fuck sake.
Man up.

Yes, people sometimes have a very negative initial impression of BTC.
