Title: What will the cities of the future look like?
Post by: ehab.co on January 31, 2018, 10:26:51 PM
I am creating a digital platform on which the cities of the future will be built. See http://ehab.co/

But what I want to know is... what will these future cities look like?

Depends how far in to the future you wish to venture, but i imagine buildings will get increasingly taller (miles tall). They will be outfitted with solar panel windows, roofs, and sides. There will be vertical farms in some of these. Roads will likely change to be more efficient for self driving cars, so less car parking areas etc. and more room to build more useful things. Probably also a fair amount of drones flying about the place delivering things too.

Eventually i envision floating cities on the ocean. The ocean makes up 2/3 of the planet and is underutilized. You could literally have floating cities holding billions of people in the future.

I assume you just mean earth, but in case you don't, Elon Musk has a image of how he imagins a city on Mars may look like.

Most likely something based on the US city designs. Increasingly tall office, shopping, entertainment and residential complexes in the city centre for the rich (who likely to have second homes on the countryside), heavily guarded walled communities on the perimeters with shopping malls, parks, sport facilities, schools and hospitals for the middle class, close to that and maybe close to the city centre some better areas for the skilled workers and young professionals, and large slums in between with huge run down residential complexes for the lower classes.

I some time imagine how the future city will look like. This will be possible and easy to actualized if government give preference to some great innovative ideas from individuals. See like blockchain technology that is about to ease all our financial stress so that we can have stress free society, government are fighting the concept with all they have. If you followup some great blockchain technology oriented projects that are coming up on daily basis you will agree with me that with blockchain we can have a better city in future.

We're building that platform! https://ehab.co/

But yeah regulation and governments are holding things back...

As we talk about sustainable cities, there are many great examples from around the world, where governments working with various elements have successfully introduced long-term eco-friendly policies. For example, reducing gas emissions, encouraging the use of environmentally friendly transport, and creating more green spaces. Singapore may be the foremost example of how its ongoing efforts, the city can solve the problems of heavy pollution after the country's industrialization.

First that came into my mind is a system of air roads and flying transport. Also I imagine very high buildings. Higher than today's skyscrapers. You go to the balcony, sit into your flying car and go to work  ;)

How far into the future exactly? If the NWO uhh... sorry UN *Cough cough* have implemented their agenda 21 and agenda 2030 then probably they will look like massive dumpsters, Garbage everywhere. Hookers on every street corner. Dealers selling crack to kids to make a couple XRP.

In my opinion the city in the future will be modern and clean. There will be many high rise buildings built. The roads are built straight. The lighting system is illuminated everywhere. The city will have many trees and fresh air.

Every city in the future is like  the city before of Sodom and Gomorrah
Different beautiful buildings and establishment. But most high tech technology.

It is pretty obvious that Future cities will be more polluted than today's cities and There will be a lot of trouble to deal with. For example, More traffic jams, noise pollution, water pollution  and people will become isolated in very high- tech cities. These are my predictions for future cities.

I am interested in city development and architecture. That's why I am posting on this subject. There are many researches about city space and city life in the future. There is an futuristic architect Peter Cook. He made many drawing about future city. You can search his utopic projects.

If cities were planned in the past by architects, then the cities of the future will most likely be created on the basis of ideas. Already, there are many interesting projects devoted to how cities should look in a few decades.

Some of these projects are based on the idea of gardening. Experts in the field of design assume that in future the cities will be crowded with electric vehicles and bicycles. Due to this, air quality in megacities will improve significantly, residents will have the opportunity to open windows in their homes.

The vision of a "green city" often involves skyscrapers, where the living room and office spaces are adjacent to hydroponic greenhouses or high-rise gardens and green roofs. Thus, there will be further development of urbanization and, at the same time, a return to the agricultural roots of human civilization. In most modern megacities, there is a very great need for such "gardening".

Looking forward to seeing your platform! Since you already mentioned digital, I picture a future digital or virtual world. Still the same aesthetics I guess, but more refined and cleaner --because we don't have to worry about pollution or global warming anymore. Because at the rate our planet is heading to extinction is going, this might be the only scenario possible to continue with life.

I'm afraid they will be more and more uniform. It's sad when you travel far away to see the same stores and same fast food joints selling the same stuff. Successful brands are all getting global, and that's terrible. The same goes with architecture. Monte Carlo has grown, it built Fontvieille over the sea, but all the buildings there look like they could belong to Florida. Boring!

I think the cities of the future will look like industrial cities. Infrastructures are key feature of a successful city there will be many bridges and better roads connecting different cities. Transportation will also improve to become faster. This is how i picture cities will look like in the future.

What will the future look like depends upon our vision, and so as the city we want to look like in the future. Since we are talking about future, technological advancement and inventions are then necessary for we to level up compare today. People do have necessities still that I know technology can solve. However, I would like to emphasize here that despite being a world of technology, we must, at the same time be a world of green or an enevironmental one. Because admit it or not, though technology can do many incredible things, there are still things that it cannot provide us. We must not forget that we should balance everything. Meaning, we should look ahead in the future of our city but not compromising its natural glory.

If you are watching Sci-Fi movies, futuristic cartoons / anime's there will be a resemblance to what's being shown to those shows.

I'm not telling that it will completely be like that but there will be flying cars, cities will be more hyper and lively because of the technology that will be applied.

Massive floating screens will also be there to broadcast something. There's no need to stick it to any billboards or buildings. It will be an interface monitor where it will just pop if there's an announcement / event.

The future starts tomorrow. Or should I say - the next hour. On a serious note, I fantasize about the future technology only while seeing cartoons and if we could have something similar it will be amazing. And I do not know how long that will get to be implemented in my country.

Interesting features you mentioned, but they aren't far off from what our future will be like! You're right... no flying cars yet (although how cool would it be if we could live like the Jetsons?) but with semi-automated cars and super high tech head up displays with augmented reality features, we certainly will have a tech-powered future. I heard manual cars and older smartphones will soon be obsolete, making way for VR headsets  and AR glasses. Even A-list celebs have begun investing in them. How do you feel about these devices being key in living and surviving in the future?

If you will be thinking about it, we already knew what will happen in the future if we are just active in the world of technology. A lot of new solutions and still not finished project are being studied and learned. A lot of plans including cleaner energy and efficient technologies. I am so excited on what may happen in the future and I do hope that I am a part of it, that will be a bigger honor for me.

Totally interesting, innovation is unstoppable in technology and almost everything will be upgraded by that time. Every time I imagine about those augmented reality features it makes me shiver.

For real those manual cars will be no longer found elsewhere unless it will become a collectors item.

These items for surviving in the future won't be necessary for average living citizens but just like today it will play a part to the economy which will be used by several companies to improve their productivity and effectiveness.

Cities that already exist will look very different from new cities that will arise. I remember recently reading an article about a city that they are planning to build somewhere in the Middle East. It said that the entire city will have an environmental control system to keep it cool in the desert heat. I think that an ideal new city will take care of all transportation. Nobody will be driving cars. It should be easy for all people to get anywhere they need to with some kind of automated system. They should also have an efficient way to get good into the city. Perhaps they could bring containers of good into the city through some kind of underground tunnels. I agree that buildings will probably keep getting taller. Renewable energy will become more and more pervasive.

since IOT(internet of things) is on the process of being a part of our daily life, imagine all things being automated, cabs w/out drivers, high rise buildings with a robot assistant to welcome you a smokefree ride and maybe some old school bicycles for those that support environmental care but i would not remove beggars from the future city or include flying cars as it would not be practical putting in our world's gasoline reserves unless there would be a modern way of transportation that does not depend on gas, yeah there are electrically dependent mobiles but not that efficient to make an airplane fly or a ship move in water.

It's fascinating that most of the things we are discussing here are just a continuation of what we already have. We even think in terms of limitations we are familiar with. There actually already are electric planes. You're right, it is more challenging to make electric planes because of our limitations on battery technology, but if it's already possible, there's a good chance the technology will only make it more possible. Between 2015-2016 a solar powered plane circumnavigated the whole world! You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_Impulse. Maybe the future we be even cooler than we can imagine.

It seems like you're talking about now. There are so many gadgets that make things more convenient. In big cities you don't really need to go out at all, if you don't want to. You can order groceries or cooked food online. You can have teachers come teach you at home or via the internet. Even if you get sick, you could have a doctor come to you. I've never heard of it, but I'm sure it would even be possible to have a dentist come to you. If I didn't want to, I think I could almost never leave my apartment. Sometimes I do go for 2 or 3 days without going outside.

To be honest, I think our future will realize all our scifi fantasies! Think about it… It’s all starting -AI, self-driving cars or flying cars, then there’s blockchain tech and virtual currencies. Then there are talks now about space colonization as well as immersion into a virtual world. Mind-blowing, right? I just read about it in this discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/transhumanism/comments/91g7yd/should_we_focus_on_space_colonization_or_digital/.
One thing is for sure –our future will be so high-tech and way beyond what our imagination can create.

I opened up the link. It does all look fairly interesting. Could you elaborate on the virtual world thing. The thread on Reddit seems to just mention it as if we should already know what they're talking about. Is this something like the Matrix? People would just be connected to a computer and live in a virtual world? I don't really think that's a great idea. I think it could be cool to go to a world like that for brief periods of time, but it's much nicer to just live in the real world. I just had one idea though. Maybe everybody's homes could be in a virtual world. Then you would just require one spot in a chair per person, instead of actually building huge houses. That could be an interesting thing to explore.

In the future, the cities will likely be more technologically advanced. Hopefully we would see more and more buildings use solar panel windows and roofs, as well as building with a more innovative design. It is also highly likely that we will see drones being used to power a flying vehicle. On top of that, I expect us to witness a breakthrough in technology and see improvements on life expectancy and longevity. Hopefully, the climate will not be worse or we would also be facing even worse summer and winter.

I think the cities in the future will be a lot better at harmonising with nature. e.g. lots of greenery integrated with artificial structures, complete reliance on renewable energy, etc. I think the days where science, tech and industry can only gain at the expense of the environment are quickly coming to a close.

Cities of the future will look like Singapore.

Why such a pessimistic prognosis? What are Dapps Apps? How about you explain your logic a bit more? I can't "work it out". So, you think that companies like Amazon will take a lot of jobs from people. They will run other companies out of business? What makes you think that people won't have any money? There are plenty of ways people make money other than in retail. Many of the homeless people in San Francisco actually choose to live that way. There are so many programs available to help people, that they could get out of it if they really wanted to.

I think that, cinsidering the growing climate change and global warming, the cities of the future will be built over the oceans and seas because of rising sea level. The structure of these buildings will be made from more strong and durable materials that the field of engineering will create. There will be marine vessels and aerial planes to serve as a mode of transportation. If this will happen, it will be like Atlantis!

Well I do agree that the main reason could be the fact that governments and banks don't have control over cryptocurrencies in general, however, a while ago I've heard about this project called estcoin, the idea of an Estonian national cryptocurrency, however I do not recall any recent news regarding this topic... but this shows that not all governments are so pesimistic when it comes to blockchain based projects...
