Title: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on September 01, 2013, 10:08:42 PM CryptoVest Physical Litecoin
"Zinodaur" First Edition Designed by: Zinodaur - 3150 Minted - Sold unloaded, assembled or unassembled, and with or without a coin capsule. Coin capsules with the Firstbits of the coin were also sold. https://i.imgur.com/Zt5y1S6.jpg Disclaimer: These coins were all sold unloaded, therefore each customer loaded (or didn't load) each coin. When buying the coins second hand, check the actual amount loaded to the coin, as it may differ from the face value printed on the front of the coin (1). Also, these coins were assembled by both CryptoVest and by customers depending on their preference. Extreme caution is suggested when buying and selling these coins used. Extra holograms will be available in our web shop for replacement holograms, so to be safe when buying used coins it is suggested you have the seller redeem he coins and just buy the blanks. That is the only 100% way you can be sure not to get scammed. CryptoVest takes no responsibility for the validity or value of any of the coins after they leave our office and are in customer's hands. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CryptoVest Physical Litecoin "Zinodaur" Special First Edition Designed by: Zinodaur - 850 Minted - The "Special First Edition" Physical Litecoins were sold unloaded, and assembled by CryptoVest. All coins came with a coin capsule, address card, and certificate of authenticity. There is a window in the hologram showing the "Firstbits" of the Litecoin address of each coin. There are a couple "errors" on the coins in that there is a bulge, similar to the first Casascius coin, and also the window is rather wide which in turn shows the coin's metal on the sides. The "Special First Edition" coins were the first set of coins that CryptoVest kept a record of the coin's addresses and made the list public... they did not do this with the "Regular First Edition" coins. Also, "Special Edition" coins came with a numbered certificate of authenticity, and are the only coins out of the First Edition batch that are able to be confirmed as being assembled by CryptoVest (resulting in a higher resale value). https://i.imgur.com/kFFj8Ci.jpg Disclaimer: These coins were all sold unloaded, therefore each customer loaded (or didn't load) each coin. When buying the coins second hand, check the actual amount loaded to the coin, as it may differ from the face value printed on the front of the coin (1). CryptoVest takes no responsibility for the validity or value of any of the coins after they leave our office and are in customer's hands. Code: -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How do I tell the difference inbetween Regular First Edition Coins and Special First Edition Coins? 1. Special Edition coins have a window on the hologram that shows the firstbits of the address, and Regular Edition coins have holograms with no window. 2. All numbered coins are Special Edition coins (numbered 1 through 850), as Regular Edition coins were not assigned numbers. 3. It also says "Special First Edition" on the card that came with the coin (that has the coin's Litecoin address.) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on September 07, 2013, 10:55:32 AM Our website will launch in one week for more details on our products and possibly ordering (if items are in stock at the time). More details will be available at that time. www.cryptovest.com
There will be three versions of Zinodaur's physical Litecoin: - Econo Line - Theses coins/holograms will be quite cheap, as made from lesser quality materials from overseas with the best price in mind. These will be less secure and less counterfeit resistant than the Executive Line. - Executive Line - These coins/holograms will be made with the best manufacturing techniques & materials available. These will be more secure and more counterfeit resistant than the Econo Line. The hologram will have added security features to deter counterfeiting. - Chocolate Coins - Only shipping to the USA. It's recommended to consume them in 2 months or less for the best taste. These come funded, or unfunded incase you just want to enjoy the chocolate or show it off to your friends! All coins have the option to be loaded and assembled by CryptoVest or being funded and assembled by the customer. My friend msm595 is working on a custom program to print coin inserts that will be open sourced for all of our customers to generate and print their own coin inserts. Factory funded & assembled coins will be $1 more than unfunded coins due to the time it takes to generate & print coin inserts, load, and assemble the coins. I will likely have the Econo Line coins and holograms in about a week. The chocolate coins are also on their way- possibly next week as well. The Executive Line will likely be released in October, I am still getting quotes from USA-based mints and hologram companies. Here is a prototype picture of an Econo Line Zinodaur Physical Litecoin: http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p558/rowtaree/EconoLine_zpsea0d7afc.jpg Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on September 07, 2013, 11:24:29 AM Holeyyyyy sh*t O-O that looks amazing~! Thank you, keep in mind this is the lesser quality version from the "Econo Line." Just wait till you see the Executive version. ;) Although, I do admit there will be a large price difference inbetween the Econo and Executive versions. You have to pay for quality... still, I am trying my best to shop around and get a good deal from a reputable manufacturer. The Econo version will be quite affordable for even the tightest of the tightwads. ;D Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: Devine on September 07, 2013, 03:24:12 PM Cool stuff OP. I really wanted a Lialana but the price of them (plus postage) stopped me dead in my tracks.
I'd rather a full silver coin, but I'm definitely interested in them if the price is right. It'd be nice to have them at a price where I can actually afford to make a nice shiny pile of them :) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: smoothie on September 10, 2013, 06:25:47 AM This is worth cross posting given it was posted in a thread on a different topic:
Well it mentioned something about being the most secure coins made. Could you elaborate? Oh yes, it doesn't have to do with engraving though.I am spending the extra money to add more security features to the hologram that other coin's don't have. So, these will be the most counterfeit deterrent holograms for physical cryptocoins currently available. These features will make it easy to confirm for anyone that the holograms on the coins are genuine and not fakes. Notice I say "counterfeit deterrent" and not "counterfeit proof". It is technically impossible to make something that is counterfeit proof, however with added security features you can make it very hard for someone to do. There will also be cheaper holograms with less security features if you prefer price over security. Just a bit of advice, you probably should not assume that there are NO security features in my holograms (as well as mike's). I'll speak for myself and will say there are several on my holograms that I have not made public for obvious reasons. It is a bit of an overstatement in the bold above to claim that as true without consulting said parties prior to making a statement as such. The part about "most counterfeit deterrent holograms" is pretty bold too. Just keep this in mind. Thanks. :) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! I did not assume that you do not have any security features on your hologram, in fact I assume the opposite. Nor did I say that you do not have any security features on your hologram (or mike's for that matter.) 2. I am going above and beyond and spending a pretty penny on the nicer holograms. I know that saying "my hologram will be the most counterfeit deterrent" is a bold statement. It is for that reason, that I would not say it unless I really believed it to be true. I have a hard time believing you went through the same trouble and expense as I have to add almost every holographic security feature possible to your holograms. Feel free to prove me wrong. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on September 11, 2013, 11:42:55 AM Ahem, moving along...
I received the first Chocolate Litecoins yesterday, they are milk chocolate silver coins using Zinodaur's design. I'm beginning to think maybe it was a bad idea to order a huge box of chocolate. I have been eating them too much... I'm going to to get fat! :D These will come funded, or unfunded so you can generate and print your own coin inserts. Alternatively, you may just stick the hologram on it for decoration and to show off to your friends and family! These are meant for gifts and novelty purposes, I plan on using these for some Litecoin awareness projects to educate strangers about Litecoin and spread the word. These have a 1-2 month shelf life when stored in the proper conditions. I will get some more professional pictures soon.. these were taken on my phone. :) http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p558/rowtaree/1e76dd02-68cf-4d03-9eec-512a4a66184c_zps0ad32a07.jpg http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p558/rowtaree/e2a2085d-af77-48a3-b185-4055fc680bf0_zpse1ab9d31.jpg http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p558/rowtaree/c20b507f-76c6-4d53-aced-f3eb8a42efb1_zps40481d20.jpg Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on September 12, 2013, 05:20:20 AM yummy! Indeed... I had to cut myself off. No more chocolate for this guy (for a day or two at least!)That has to be the coolest thing ever. Too bad the private key isn't on the chocolate itself. Thanks Salty, I thought it was cool. :) I'm not sure how many people will be interested in buying them, but I will likely use a lot of them to introduce new people to cryptocurrencies. I must admit shipping chocolate through the mail is more challenging than I imagined (during the summer.. melted chocolate.) I live in a college town, so I was thinking of going to a computer science building on campus and handing them out to a bunch of students. Meanwhile, introducing them to Litecoins and Bitcoins. Maybe this will introduce a couple new developers (or users) into the community, that wouldn't have otherwise learned about Bitcoin/Litecoin. A private key in the chocolate would be pretty cool, but what happens when you eat it? I wouldn't want to be the person that has to find it coming out the other end. :D Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on September 14, 2013, 12:59:01 PM I was just joking with you SaltySpitoon in case you didn't notice... I'm sure you meant put the private key in between the chocolate and the foil, not inside the chocolate. Well.. I thought it was funny at least. :)
Anyways, in other news: The website was supposed to launch later today. However, I received free tickets to the A&M/Alabama football game. There's no way I'm going to miss that, so I'm going to busy most of the day today. I have delayed the website launch until tomorrow. Although I am almost done with it, I would like to do some more work on it tomorrow before it goes live. Thank you for understanding. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on September 17, 2013, 03:13:34 PM Wow.. that was one heck of a football game, glad I got to go. Anyways... I have again delayed the launch of the website. I want more time to work on the website and make it look pretty and informative! Also, I am expecting the Econo Line coins and holograms to possibly be delivered later this week!!! When I actually launch the website, the Econo Line coins and chocolate coins will be available for sale.
Although I will likely receive the Econo Line coins & holograms this week, I expect them to not go on sale until at least sometime next week. There will be a few things I need to do once the coins are received, including getting an assembly process worked out and testing several ideas I have to make them more tamper resistant. I want these to be some of the most secure and tamper resistant coins on the market, so I am not going to rush to make the coins available. Thanks, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! Post by: CoinHoarder on November 06, 2013, 12:24:20 AM Sorry I haven't posted in a while... I have been pretty busy and going through some personal issues, so I haven't had much time to work on this. Let me bring you guys up to speed and tell you the full story thus far in one post. As always, I am brutally honest on these forums and I will continue that trend in this post. Sorry for the wall of text... I am good at making those!
My inspiration for the project: I do not own any physical cryptocoins and never have, although I always thought they were a really neat idea (good job Casascius!) However, I have come to the conclusion that they are all extremely overpriced. I think they are charging a large mark up. :o Either that, or their manufacturers are really ripping them off and they did not shop around... I think this is unlikely. So, I aim to bring much cheaper physical cryptocoins to market that will satisfy the need for cheaper coins. Physical cryptocoins are a great way to spread the word about cryptocoins. My hope is that by making them cheaper, people will be more willing to give them to friends and family and introduce new people to cryptocoins! Current status of the project: I have received the coins and holograms and I am working on finishing the website to facilitate orders. As soon as the website is done, you will be able to place orders for immediate shipping. I expect this to be done either this week or next week. Please bear with me, I do not have money for a web developer so I am doing it myself in what little free time I have available and it may take longer than stated here. Design changes: I have decided NOT to sell pre-loaded (funded) coins unlike most other physical cryptocoin companies. I simply do not have the time and also do not want the legal liability. It has recently been shown that physical cryptocoin are not as tamper evident as we all thought (Google Defcon Casascius.) It seems pointless to me sell funded coins because there is no way to tell if someone has tampered with the hologram (or very little evidence.) Along with this, I feel I simply do not have the time to assemble hundreds of coins. I am pretty busy and have several things going on at once. Therefore, all coins will come unfunded and with two holograms, so the customer will assemble them themselves. Each coin comes with two holograms, because it can be easy to disrupt the tamper evident properties of the hologram when placing it on the coin. Transfer tape is a necessity to remove the hologram from its wax paper and putting it onto the coin without disrupting the tamper evident properties. Again, using your finger, finger nail, or anything other than transfer tape to place the hologram will make the tamper evident properties noticeable after hologram placement. I had a friend (shout out to msm595) port the Casascius Bitcoin Utility to Litecoin (thanks again Casascius!) This is what customers are recommended to use to print coin inserts. It is a very straightforward process, and will be explained in detail on our website. The program will be open sourced, so the code can be reviewed by the community to make sure that there are no security issues or back doors in the program. Bad news: The quality of the holograms is not what I was expecting. At certain angles, they look brilliant. However, at certain angles you can hardly see the hologram design. However, the quality is not what people are used to seeing from other physical cryptocoins. Another reason why my first coins are not as nice to currently available physical cryptocoins is that I did not have enough money to make coins out of more quality materials and by more quality manufacturing techniques. If these coins sell well, I promise to spend more money in the future when making my products and searching for the best quality possible. I am confident in my ability to make higher quality coins for MUCH cheaper than the competitors. Unfortunately, if these cheaper coins do not sell well, I will have already wasted more money than I am comfortable with, and will not be making higher quality coins. I hate to leave it open ended like that, but it is what it is. I am not rich and cannot afford to blow thousands of dollars. Good news: People have been asking me forever... "What is the price?" Well, today I can finally answer that, since I now have the final numbers of the manufacturing costs. As stated before the point of this project was to make an affordable physical cryptocoin. I have done just that, my coins will retail for $1.49 USD!!! This includes a coin and two holograms. Coins will be assembled by the customer, so no need to trust me. Pictures: And finally, I apologize for the low res camera photos. But, they serve their purpose to illustrate everything I have talked about in this post and to see what the coins and holograms look like from multiple angles. Again... the holograms look great from some angles, but not so great from other angles. I'll let you be the judge, please tell me your honest opinion. (Please excuse the mess up on the last two images.. I accidentally enabled both cameras and part of my face/hair is in the last two pictures... just noticed that when typing this. Oh well.... http://imgur.com/a/MGjCX Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! I reckon u should talk to whoever did those holos as that does not look right You can tell by the writing on the paper that picture is extremely unfocused, which causes them to look even worse. If you look at it at the wrong angle, they do look similar to that.. IE. not much if any color, hard to see the design. If you read my post above, I say I am not happy with the quality. However, it is what it is... it is a "you get what you paid for" type of thing. If people really really really really don't like the holograms, perhaps I will order new ones from a better manufacturer. However, I have spent enough on this project for now and I need to recoup some of my losses or I am not doing anything further than what what I've already done. I will be making a more quality version if I can at least make my money back on these. I did this for the good of the community of Litecoin and to provide cheap physical Litecoins, but I am not going to continue doing it if I am in the red. I am not that rich to blow thousands of dollars like that. Also, I don't think it's fair though to compare a $1.49 physical cryptocoin to a $100 physical cryptocoin. I know a lot of you are going to say this doesn't look as good as Casascius' coin or Lelanas. However, they are also are also about $90+ more expensive. Yes, I have been pretty much absent from the forums minus the past week. I have been having some medical problems, I actually just got back from the doctor and am having some blood work done. Hopefully I can figure out what's going on and get back to feeling better soon. I'm glad someone's interested. :) I apologize for taking so long getting these to market, but the finish line is closer than ever now. Wow, you threw me off by saying XBT... I totally missed the news that XBT is the new official currency code for Bitcoin. I will be using coinpayments.net, so technically any coin they have integrated I could theoretically accept if you ask nice enough. :) I will try to accommodate people with whichever crypto currency they prefer. Just give me some time to setup a wallet and stuff for it if it's anything other than XBT/LTC/XPM. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Cryptogenic Bullion- trying to make cryptocoins look cool again. ;D (I thought of that saying a while back and have been waiting for the perfect time to say it... rofl) Anyways.... sure. I will accept anything integrated with coin payments. I didn't really realize there would be much interest in buying these with other ALTs and wasn't really planning on accepting anything other than a few cryptocoins. It seems like there is some interest in paying with other ALTs, so I will try to get it setup where I can accept just about anything. :) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Thanks Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Post by: CoinHoarder on November 16, 2013, 03:25:08 PM Hi,
I am finishing our website and next week I will start taking orders for our new product. In order to promote our new physical Litecoin, I have decided to give the first 20 people to PM me a free coin!!! Unfortunately, shipping costs are not included. If you would like to add more coins to your shipment to save on shipping costs, you may purchase extra coins for $1.49 usd each. After this initial promotion, orders will only be accepted through our website and we will at the very least accept LTC/BTC for payment. Each coin comes unloaded with two holograms. You will generate the address/private key locally on your computer using an open source program (Casascius' Bitcoin Address Utility- I paid to have it ported to Litecoin by my friend msm595). Obviously a printer is needed to print out the coin insert. Full assembly instructions will be posted on our website when it launches next week, but the process is pretty straightforward and I'm sure all of you are very capable. Sorry for the unprofessional/unfocused pictures.. these were taken from my phone. I'm working on getting some more professional images shot, but you can see an example of the product here: http://imgur.com/a/MGjCX For more information on the project, see my latest update here: https://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,1940.msg52363.html#msg52363 Shipping costs: Case by case scenario Ordering information: I'll post here after the 20 free coins are gone. Only PMs on Litecoin forums will be accepted for this contest- do not PM me on bitcointalk. After the promotion is over, orders must be made through our website for the sake of automation. Please PM me if you are interested, include the following in your PM: 1. Name 2. Shipping address as it would appear on a shipping label 3. If you would like any extra coins I will PM you back with a LTC payment address and the total amount for your order. I want to make it clear, these are unloaded/unassembled coins. For the truly paranoid (you do not have to trust the issuer because you generate your own private keys) or just for the bargain shoppers. :) I will probably sell some loaded coins at some point because that seems to be the version most people are interested in. I personally do not think there's much of a point in factory loaded coins other than for the sake of convenience. At the end of the day, you need to trust the person who you buy the coins from- especially when buying them used from 3rd parties. Although the holograms I use are technically "tamper evident", nothing is "tamper proof". There is no way to tell if the coin has been tampered with, as physical cryptocoins have been compromised (read: http://codinginmysleep.com/casascius-physical-bitcoins-cracked-at-defcon/). When I do end up making factory loaded coins, please make sure to use caution when buying them used. Only buy them used from extremely reputable community members and use common sense. Request high resolution images if buying them online to look for tampering, and if possible meet up in person so you can physically inspect them. It will take me a little more time to get these ready though, there are a couple things I need to do before they would be ready to sell. I decided to do shipping on a case by case scenario to help save you a little bit on shipping. I realize the flat rate international rate was a little high, so I am trying to accommodate. I will be including a surprise in each shipment. ;) Cheers, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Post by: CoinHoarder on November 20, 2013, 01:30:56 AM Bump- 12 free coins left, please PM me shipping info and I will calculate shipping for you. If you only want the free coin, shipping has been about $3-$4 usd within the USA.
I am finishing up with the website. I'm almost done with the written content and am meeting up with my sister who is a semi-professional photographer to get some good images of assembled coins and for artwork on the website. I am still expecting to have the website up and running & taking orders by the end of this week. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Post by: CoinHoarder on November 23, 2013, 03:39:34 AM Hi all,
The free coins have all been claimed now. Thank you for your interest and support. I am interested in your opinions of the product, please post it on my main thread here: https://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,1940.0.html I was going to include some chocolate Litecoins in the package.. but chocolate goes bad in 2-3 months and I've had them for a while, so they aren't very good anymore. They are a lot harder than they used to be and taste a little funny. I will have to order some more. I have an idea about putting a link to Litecoin.org under the hologram and making them really cheap so you could hand them out to strangers on the street or something to spread the word. :) I worked really hard on the website last night, am working on it tonight, and I will finish it this weekend. I will then be only accepting orders through the web site. The price is going up to $1.98 so I can pay for an employee and for extra packaging costs I didn't think about. So, those that ordered extra coins during the promotion got a pretty good deal. I am working on the logistics of the loaded coins... I am adding extra security features which need to be fully tested. Also I need to get a bullet proof, safe, system in order to generate/load the coins as safely as possible. I don't expect them to be ready for a month or two. For now only unloaded coins will be for sale. Thanks again guys, I hope you realize I'm not making hardly any money on these at all. After selling all 4000 coins I will have made about $2000 compare that to Smoothies/Casascius' profit and it's like night and day, they are pretty much robbing you guys blind (hopefully smoothie doesn't start a flame war, but it is the truth.) I only make about $0.50 usd a coin. Who knows how long it will take me to sell that many... I am doing it to spread the word about Litecoin. I want you to give these as gifts and introduce people to Litecoin. Physical cryptocoins should be used to promote Litecoin, not only for personal collections. I hope these are cheap enough where you can do just that. Give them for bithdays, holidays, etc.. lets get Litecoin going viral. Thank you, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Post by: CoinHoarder on November 23, 2013, 03:56:20 PM What do you guys think of my idea for the chocolate coins? http://imgur.com/a/LOV2K
Excuse the crap phone pics, but I decided most people will not give out chocolate coins loaded with Litecoin value to friends/family/colleagues. Simply put, IMO most people are too self centered or greedy to do such a thing. I'm not sure which one it is. So, I decided to just add a link to Litecoin.org on them. My only concern is these are the same holograms I will be using for the loaded coins and that could pose a security issue. Perhaps I should have special holograms made for this purpose? I think with the added security features I'm adding on the loaded coins that it will not matter, but I would hate to compromise the security of the project over something so silly. Well.. I don't think it's silly to promote Litecoin of course not, but maybe what I mean to say is that I would hate to compromise the security of the project over something so avoidable. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- They're here!!!! Post by: CoinHoarder on November 23, 2013, 04:19:02 PM Those are pretty cool, definitely something I would give out, if not too pricy. They would definitely be under a dollar. How far under a dollar I'm not going to speculate.. I already had to raise the price of the metal alloy coin, so I do not want to speculate on the price and have to do that with this too. I hope your coins arrive promptly. All promotion coins that were paid for shipped on Thursday or Friday. I am going to launch the website this weekend, it is my main priority. I am meeting up with my sister to take some pictures of the products today. She has a nice camera and is a good photographer so I think they'll look nice... much better than my phone pics. Thanks for your support Miffman, I wish more people would be as helpful and supportive as you have been. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on November 25, 2013, 02:44:05 AM The website is finished and accepting orders: https://cryptovest.com/ (https://cryptovest.com/)
Please visit the website for more information on the product and to see the first pictures of assembled coins. There a lot of pictures in the store on the product page for the physical Litecoin here: https://cryptovest.com/product/zinodaur-physical-litecoin (https://cryptovest.com/product/zinodaur-physical-litecoin) I decided to sell assembled coins as well if you do not want to assemble your own. There is still no loaded coins though, coins must be loaded by the customer. Assembled coins will come with a piece of paper with the Litecoin address and a QR code to load it. The assembled coins still come with the hologram without the window. I expect to sell loaded coins sometime in the future, they will have added security features and be easily distinguishable from the other coins. msm595 finished the coin insert printing program. It is Casascius' Bitcoin Address program converted more for our needs to make it easier to print coin inserts for customers. It is open sourced, you can view the code here: https://github.com/msm595/CryptoVest-Insert-Generator (https://github.com/msm595/CryptoVest-Insert-Generator). You may download it here: https://cryptovest.com/downloads/CryptoVest-Insert-Generator_201311231735.zip (https://cryptovest.com/downloads/CryptoVest-Insert-Generator_201311231735.zip) I'm so relieved to have the website finished, please direct all orders there from now on (no orders via PM please.) The blog is broken, but I will try to fix that soon. Thanks, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on November 25, 2013, 02:19:36 PM Google Chrome says there may be a problem with the SSL connection (IE doesn't show that there are any problems.. not sure about Firefox.) I'm not a web developer/designer, so fingers crossed I can figure it out on my own. If anyone has any suggestions on how to go about fixing this, any help would be much appreciated.
If you feel uncomfortable ordering from the web site because of this, I will still take orders via PM until this is fixed. Please still use the website to figure out the total costs for what you want and shipping cost. Thank you. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on November 26, 2013, 02:40:43 PM If you submitted an email through the form on our contact us page, please resend a regular email through your normal email client. Of course you can simply contact me here too (I come here more often than the business email account anyways.) Spam bots have hit the Contact Us page and sent me 300 spam emails. I had to delete them all because I didn't have time to go through and see if they were actually all spam or if there were some real customer inquiries.
I'm busy with work/assembling coins through tomorrow, but I'll have some time over the holidays and weekend to try and fix things on the website such as the SSL problem and this. My apologies and thank you! Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on November 27, 2013, 04:52:48 AM Paypal issues have been fixed. Still working out the kinds in the website.
Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on November 29, 2013, 02:53:53 PM Happy (belated) Thanksgiving! Thank you all for your support these last two weeks, it is much appreciated! I am happy to say we have shipped out over 100 coins to over 10 countries. I have been reminded by this endeavor that Bitcoin/Litecoin is such a global movement, and I am excited to see what the future brings for both!
This is kind of last minute, but today for Bitcoin (& Litecoin ;)) Black Friday, there will be bulk pricing on all orders. I changed the price on the product page manually because I was having trouble getting the sale/coupon functions to work properly. After today, prices will go back to normal for the time being. The SSL issue has been fixed. Thanks mpjetta/carnth for giving me tips on how to fix it! I had made the website before I got the SSL cert, so some images were still linked using HTTP instead of HTTPS. Thanks again, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on November 29, 2013, 10:47:52 PM Some clarification:
The coins are made with a Zinc Alloy material. Be careful not to drop them from a high level, as they will show small defects depending on how they land... like from the waist to the floor. Even then the defects are only noticeable when examining the coin up close. I recommend keeping them in the bag provided and handling them with care. Some assembly clarification/tips & also how to redeem the coins: You cut out the small circle on the paper inside the lines, but leaving all the characters of the private key and face the private key towards the coin. The address next to each coin insert is the address used to load the coin, and the QR code is the same address associated to the coin... it makes it easier when loading them (you can scan the addresses with your phone and email them to yourself etc..) I recommend a 1/2 inch scrapbooking punch if you're cutting a lot of coin inserts. Scissors can get tedious. I ordered two different kinds of half inch punches and am testing out to see which one is the best. I will update everyone on those test results. Right now I am cutting them out with scissors, but I imagine the hole punches will be easier. Such as this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/60417118/paper-shapers-12-inch-circle-paper-punch?utm_source=google&utm_medium=product_listing_promoted&utm_campaign=supplies_low&gclid=CMvijLqEi7sCFaTm7AodensA8Q As far as redeeming the coins, 1. Use Liteaddress.org to convert the mini key to a normal Litecoin private key. Click on the wallet details tab and type in the private key as it's shown on the coin insert. Copy the 51 character base58 private key. 2. Download the Litecoin client from Litecoin.org and download/sync the block chain. Go to the Help Tab, select the Debug menu option. Click on the console tab to enter commands into console. Use a combination of the following (depending on if your wallet is encrypted or unecrypted): walletpassphrase <passphrase> <timeout> importprivkey <litecoinprivkey> [label] 3. Wait for the block chain to sync. This can take a long time and it will seem like the client froze. Just be patient and wait for it.. go do something else as sometimes it takes upwards of 15-20 minutes. Once it's done, the value will show up in your wallet and you may spend it however you like. Hope this helps, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on December 03, 2013, 01:28:02 AM We have sold over 250 Physical Litecoins to over 15 countries during our first week in business. I’m so glad people are interested in the coins, your support will help us continue this project and release more coins in the future. If you haven't done so, please check out our website to place an order: https://www.cryptovest.com (https://www.cryptovest.com). All orders that were made before today have been shipped. Thanks for all your support, we hope you all like your coins!
Updates: Re: Using 1/2 inch hole punches to assemble a bunch of coins: I tried out two half inch hole punches to quickly cut out private key inserts, but I was disappointed with both. They are easy to use and both have a window for precise cutting, however they cut too large of a circle and cut pretty far outside the lines. This causes a bulge when the coin is assembled. If you don't care about that, then these hole punches are recommended (let me know and I'll sell you one for cheap.) I will not use them on our assembled coins though, because of the said bulge in the hologram it creates. The models I tested were Ek Tools "Mini Punch" and Paper Shapers (a... ummm... ek tools company) "Decorative Punch". Both were labeled as 1/2 inch punches. How many Zinodaur Physical Litecoins will be made? There will only ever be 3000 unloaded coins with this design and 1000 loaded coins (with added security features- not yet for sale.) Once all 3000 unloaded coins and the 1000 loaded coins sell out, there will be no more coins minted with this design. There will only ever be 5000 original Zinodaur holograms made, once all 5000 have been sold, the replacement hologram will have a slightly different design, likely with the year they are made on them so they are easily distinguishable from the originals. By only releasing the original coins and holograms in limited quantities, we hope to increase the collectors value of the coins & holograms (although we cannot promise this.) Over time as coins get redeemed, the original holograms will become more and more rare. Also, coins in pristine condition will become more and more rare over time, be careful when handling your coins because dropping them from about the waist high can damage the coins (hardly noticeable, but you can see it upon close examination.) General security procedure upgrade: All holograms, printed private key inserts (sometimes more are printed than needed), and the laptop used to generate and print private keys are stored securely in a safe at all times. The only record of the private keys and addresses used for our assembled coins are either hidden under the hologram, or shipped to the customer. Absolutely no record of addresses and private keys are kept by us, and assembly is personally overseen by me and done by trusted family members. IF the safe is stolen, all coins that have been assembled and/or shipped are not compromised. Security procedures for assembled/loaded coins: 1. A brand new laptop was purchased for generating & printing private key inserts. The Windows setup was completed without file sharing enabled.<br> 2. I connected to my personal password encrypted Wifi to do the following things: 2a. Update the Anti Virus (McAfee) and perform a full system scan. 2b. Saved local copies of bitaddress.org & liteaddress.org 2c. Downloaded the CryptoVest Coin Insert Generator from our web server & also the Casascius Bitcoin Utility program from Casascius' server. 2d. Microsoft Office was installed in case it is needed for later projects. 2e. Installed the printer drivers. 2f. A full scan with McAfee was ran to ensure the PC was clean after downloading the needed files. 4. No extra web browsing was done, I simply downloaded the needed files and updated the needed programs.. nothing else. The reason for connecting to the internet at all: I felt this was safer than downloading everything on my normal PC (used for web browsing, etc.) and saving it on a flash drive or disk. Although I am pretty certain my normal PC is not infected (I have held 100-800 BTC on here in the past several months and I think this would have disappeared then), I thought it safer to use a fresh install, only download the things I needed, and never connect to the internet again. 5. I disabled the Wifi network adapter. This will stay disabled for the remainder of the laptop's life, and this computer will never connect to the internet again. 6. The laptop along with all holograms and printed private key inserts are stored in a safe. If this safe is ever stolen, all coins that have been sold & shipped are not compromised, as no record of the addresses or private keys are being kept after coins are assembled. 7. I personally oversee the assembly of all coins and only use trusted immediate family members to help me assemble them. No records of private keys or addresses are kept by us. Price change for unassembled coins: After assembling hundreds of coins, we've come to the realization that it takes just as long to put together the package for unassembled coins as it does to actually assemble them. Therefore, we needed to adjust the price of the unassembled coins accordingly. I apologize about this, I am kind of learning as I go here and did not realize how long it takes to assemble the coins/packages. Both assembled and unassembled coins will now sell for 2.99, so if you ordered in the first week you got a good deal (we hardly broke even on those coins.) For the success of the business, to bring different designs to the community, and to make more coins & replacement holograms in the future, this price adjustment was necessary. Bulk Packaging: Bulk packaging has been implemented on all orders of 20 coins or more, because it is easier to assemble many coins this way and also easier for us to prepare the packages. A 10% discount is applied automatically when adding 20 coins or more to the shopping cart. If the coins are for gifts, please specify that you would like individual packaging (or even bulk packaging on smaller orders) and we will accommodate you. All orders under 20 coins are automatically sent in individual packaging. What's next? We are planning on making a better quality replacement hologram for the Zinodaur coin, a physical Bitcoin (design yet to be decided), and minting LikeHero's Physical Litecoin design (+hologram). I am looking into increasing the quality of both the coins and the holograms the next time around, yet still keeping the low prices. There is no ETA on those, so please don't expect them anytime soon... I am pretty much a one man operation (when it comes to choosing designs/manufacturing/security/web site/customer service/etc.. I only have help for assembly/shipping). I also have a day job along with a couple other crypto related projects that keep me busy. I love doing things for the community because I love the original libertarian principals of cryptocoins and I want to help further their adoption. I am not doing this because I have a huge stash of coins. I do not plan on stopping anytime soon, so expect more affordable novelty cryptocoin products from us in the future. :) Thanks again to everyone that has ordered for your support! I hope to offer more products and services in the future, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: CoinHoarder on December 03, 2013, 04:11:19 AM Some answers to questions via email:
- If you get an error while opening the coin insert program, make sure the Microsoft.NET framework is installed & updated (try to repair it if it is already up to date.) You may download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718) - Disregard the wax paper in the early promotional shipments. At first I was using this to transfer the holograms, but I found it much easier just to use the paper the hologram is already stuck to. This way has a much higher success rate too! I should of thought of that sooner, I am actually embarrassed I didn't. Follow these innstructions closely for the application of the hologram: 1. Take the two holograms in the kit and fold them where both holograms are on the outside. Place your thumbs on the front hologram and your pointer fingers on the back hologram. Slowly push down the back hologram with your pointer fingers until you peel half of the hologram off of the paper. 2. Line up the hologram so it is right side up and carefully put one edge of the hologram down on the coin. After putting one edge of the hologram down on the coin, peel off the rest of the paper from the hologram and let it fall into place. Run your finger around the hologram lightly to make sure it is attached. Use caution not to press too firmly on the hologram where the coin insert is, as it can warp the hologram and make it look bad. It is best to only apply pressure around the raised ring on the back of the coin. - If you need any further assembly clarification let me know. I am going to try and make a video this week illustrating the process. I understand how the assembly instructions could be confusing. Once you do one though, it's really easy to do. That's why I provide two holograms. :) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Accepting orders Post by: norman on December 06, 2013, 03:00:00 AM I got my coins in the mail today. They look really nice. They are a little larger than I expected from the pictures. which isn't bad at all. I like the feel. I wish the hologram had an id number of some sort on it so I could store each coins address along with the number in case I wanted to give it to somebody and show them the value. (in addition to general record keeping) I'm also tempted to load more than 1 LTC on these, but without any numbers on them, I'd be afraid I'd lose track of which one is which. (maybe that's intentional) I also would really like higher denominations. Even with the increase in value of litecoins, 1 LTC is not very much. Maybe it will be some day, but it seems like 10 LTC coins would be closer to the sweet spot for me.

I admit if I could go back and do a couple things differently, I would. This is a learning experience for me so all suggestions are much appreciated. I have some holograms with windows of the same design, and am planning on using them on the 1000 loaded coins of the same design. I wanted them to be easily distinguishable from unloaded/customer assembled coins. Along with having the holograms with windows, I am developing different tamper evident techniques in an effort to thwart the hypodermic needle attack (and by coincidence, potentially help against other attacks as well.) I plan on basically combining every tamper evident method I can think of- using more than holograms to protect the private keys. Even still I'm sure as new technologies are developed these tamper evident techniques will be broken as well. But, I think in the near term future they will be fairly secure. With current regulatory issues, I'm not sure I will even be able to make the loaded coins. They might end up being sold unloaded, but with windows and extra security features. I'm not really sure and I'm waiting to see how that plays out. I feel like what I'm doing now by selling unloaded coins with no precious metals is within the law and not considered money transmission. Selling loaded coins might put me on the other side of that fine line of regulatory status. We shall see... Thanks for your order norman! Post by: CoinHoarder on December 13, 2013, 05:11:41 AM A few random updates:
Re: Fincen There are two way I see that I could get Fincen's attention and have them contact me: 1. Sell loaded coins. This could be argued as being a money transmitter... both crypto->crypto and FIAT->crypto. 2. Sell coins made of precious metals. This could also be argued as being a money transmitter. Exchanging cryptos/FIAT for precious metals (AKA. other stores of value.) The way I read Fincen's guidelines it includes precious metal exchange as money transmission, and I believe the government agrees with me at the moment. I think this is the reason Coinabul was subpoenaed earlier this year by the NY division of FINcen. I am currently doing neither #1 nor #2, and I don't plan on doing those any time soon. I will sit on the 1000 coins I was planning on selling as loaded coins, until it is determined that I can sell them legally without registering as a MSB. I do not want to break any laws by doing this stuff, the last thing I want is a letter from Fincen. It is for this reason that the plans for the 1000 loaded coins may change. I have not really determined a course of action as of yet and am awaiting the outcome of Casascius' decision to stay in business or close up shop. Casascius has a lot more money for lawyers than I do, so if his legal team deems that selling loaded coins is indeed money transmission and/or chooses not to fight Fincen on this issue, then I will follow suit. Again, for the time being I feel like what I'm doing by selling unloaded coins with no precious metals is well within the Fincen guidelines and it is not necessary to file as a MSB. Therefore, I will continue about business as normal (except the loaded coins will have to wait and/or have a change of plans for them). ---------- (legal bs aside) We've now sold over 750 coins since November 24th. I am quite surprised at the interest in these, thanks a lot to everyone that ordered! --------- Fun facts for the day: Yes, I know I made up the word unassembled. 8) I saw the first two coins being sold on Ebay the other night. Someone had loaded it themselves and sold one for $99 and the other for ~$100. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=cryptovest&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc Not bad.. well played sir. :) --------- We are trying to stay on top of the orders, but are finding ourselves falling behind several days at times. We have now shipped out all orders made up to today's orders. Please excuse us if there is a 1-3 business day delay in shipping. --------- I will get a different shipping option enabled for international customers late this week. If ordering 20 coins or less, this will be cheaper than the current flat rate price. Also, coin capsules will be available in the store early next week for a nice way to store your coins. I think they will be $0.99 extra, and if you choose not to buy one your coin will simply be placed in a plastic bag (like all other orders have been done up to this point.) It is recommended to buy one, because you can place the piece of paper with the Litecoin address/QR code inside the capsule so it is less likely that you'll lose it. I am also looking at getting custom packaging for those that choose to buy the coins without a capsule, but I will not have these until sometime next year.. this will be much more professional than a plastic bag. :) -------- The key insert generator does not work on Mac/Linux computers, because of the .NET framework requirements are not fully compatible with WINE just yet. Please take this into consideration when deciding to buy assembled or unassembled coins. -------- Thanks again to everyone for your orders, I hope you like your coins! :) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Post by: CoinHoarder on December 14, 2013, 10:01:27 PM International & domestic customers should have better shipping costs now for lower quantities of coins. In some cases international shipping is ~$15 cheaper than it was when I was using straight flat rate prices. Please let me know if shipping costs seem out of whack. It is very challenging to get shipping costs to automatically calculate dynamically for each user ACCURATELY. I played with the numbers/dimensions for about a hour and I think I finally have the shipping costs somewhat accurate to their actual costs.

I've been really busy answering emails, assembling coins & packages, etc... along with my day job it has actually been hard to find time to sleep lately. I think that is a good problem to have, but I haven't had as much time to respond here on the forums & am a bit behind in emails. Since ~November 22 (the websites launch), we have sold over 1048 coins. This is much faster than expected. I might need to hire some extra help for assembling to keep up. For instance.. 321 coins have been ordered since Monday. Most of these coins will be shipped tomorrow & the rest on Friday.. just in time for Christmas for domestic orders.
We shipped all orders up to orders that were place last Sunday. The cut off time for domestic first class mail is this Friday. Please get your order in by tonight if you want it by Christmas. If you want to pay for express shipping this weekend, email sales@cryptovest.com and I will send you an invoice via coinpayments.net or paypal with the added shipping costs. If you are an international customer, it is most likely too late to get your order by Christmas, but please email me and I will see. Cut off times vary by country. ------------- Coin capsules are now available in the store.. both with Firstbits and without, your choice: http://imgur.com/a/CCpl3 A coin capsule is a plastic airtight coin protector, they are good for long storage of coins for protection. There is the option to add the "Firstbits" of your coin to the inside of the coin capsule via semi clear white tape. This way you can keep track of your coins without worrying about the plastic bags that come in the standard packaging. You may type the Firstbits of each coin in any block explorer to see the transactions to and from the coin. The Firstbits are the first 7 characters of an address. Please submit the Firstbits of your coins in your order message during check out for this option if you are ordering coin protectors for coins that are already in your possession or coins that you personally assembled. Otherwise, we will email you and request the Firstbits. Please note if you are ordering an assembled coin for this coin capsule, see the coin's web store page and the capsule is an added option. Ordering the capsules that way will let us know ahead of time not to request the firstbits from you and that we should generate them. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Post by: CoinHoarder on January 01, 2014, 07:46:21 PM Hi all,
First of all let me thank all of you for your business. Since November 22nd (when we launched the website), about 3000 coins have been ordered. This pace has far surpassed our expectations and I thank each and every one of our customers that have made this such a success!! Current Orders: With that being said, the volume of orders has created a back log of orders that need processing. We have shipped all orders up to order #1727. If your order number is lower than this, your coins are on their way. We are about a 1000 coins behind on orders that have been placed, and have not shipped orders yet from December 23rd to today. Since we've fallen so far behind, I have disabled ordering for the time being to allow us some time to catch up. I sincerely apologize about not being able to ship the coins faster. If you would like a refund because of the delay, feel free to email sales@cryptovest.com and I will oblige. Otherwise, we are hoping to have all orders that have been placed shipped by next Monday. Due to the increased order volume, we are a bit behind in emails/correspondence. Please bear with us, we are working on getting caught up on everything. Future Orders: We have decided to freeze orders for the time being, this will give us time to catch up (and hopefully get ahead) of the demand so we can ship in a more timely manner in the future. The CryptoVest Zinodaur Physical Litecoin is almost sold out!!! The 3000 coins sold number mentioned earlier does not include coins sold in the original promotion and also coins that were sold separately from the website. Please do not contact us to reserve coins, we are no longer taking reservations. After fulfilling all out standing orders, inventory will be taken to determine the amount of coins left for sale. Another reason for freezing ordering for now is to make sure we don't sell more coins than what we have. Please sign up for our mailing list on the homepage of our website (https://www.cryptovest.com/ - just under the large picture of the Zinodaur Physical Litecoin.) By signing up for the mailing list, you will be the first to know when the last coins go up for sale, they will be sold on a first come first serve basis. We are contemplating setting up an auction and/or selling some coins via auction for the benefit of the Litecoin Development Team and/or The Litecoin Association. More details will come in the newsletter we'll be sending out later this month. Future Coins: More details will be coming later this month on our second physical Litecoin- expect a physical Bitcoin from us sometime this year as well. I am designing increased tamper resistant coins through the use of multiple tamper evident properties. More details will come later when the coins are available for sale. Due to the competitive nature of the business and a large up front cost of ordering coins and holograms, we are keeping the details secret for now! I think everyone will like what we've come up with to bring the tamper evident properties of our products up a few notches. In our opinion, the only coins that are currently available that could compare to the level of tamper evidency we are hoping to achieve would be Titan Mint's Physical Bitcoins. However, their coins have a huge flaw (again in our opinion) in that there needs to be a central authority to redeem their higher security coins. Our design does not require a central authority and anyone may redeem the coins just like they have in the past. Please sign up to our newsletter to be in the know when our new products are for sale so that you don't miss out! Thanks again for your business. Happy holidays & have a great 2014!! Post by: klondike_bar on January 10, 2014, 07:05:16 PM received mine today - mixed opinions on my side:
1) actual coins are very nice, and very similar in size to a 1oz silver coin 2) would be nice to see actual silver coins and bitcoin versions in various denominations as well - the make your own coin approach is nice for gifting 3) the coins were wrapped in a page from the obituaries - surely using something besides the local newspaper could be a tweak in the future 4) similarly, the holograms were in a folded peice of cardboard small enough i almost discounted it as garbage or part of the shipping box. 5) the holograms would be nice if a little more detailed than just an 'L' - once that just says 'cryptovest' could be quite nice update: it's worth noting that i put a hologram on a coin and removed it 10 min later using a small amount of rubbing alcohol as a weak liquid solvent. The hologram still became 'voided' from removal but not because the 'void' patches stuck to the coin as expected. only 1 or 2 tiny bits of hologram were left on the metal, and I feel like using another solvent like naptha may have worked better - Im not totally confident in the hologram tamper-proofing (but i guess thats not the purpose of these DIY coins), maybe future versions can be improved Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Anything that let's be distinguish one coin from another would be great. I already have mixed a couple coins and I don't know which public key goes with which coin. A serial number of any sort would let me distinguish them. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. i am keen to see what other coins CH will be releasing, and yes different denoms would be good. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Post by: CoinHoarder on January 19, 2014, 05:04:44 PM All orders were shipped as of last Friday. If you do not receive your coins in a week (domestic) or two weeks (international), then please email sales@cryptovest.com or PM me here. I apologize it took longer to get through the orders than I thought it would. I learned a valuable lesson- all coins will be assembled prior to going up for sale. That way we can minimize processing/shipping time.
Due to Fincen's interest in loaded Bitcoins, the 1000 loaded coins I was planning for the Zinodaur First Edition Series is not going to happen. Instead, the remaining coins will be sold as "Special First Edition" coins. They will have windows for the Firstbits of the coin on the holograms!! Due to my noobness in coin making- these coins will have a couple "errors". First of all, the window on the hologram is larger than the private key insert, so the coin's metal shows through the sides of the window. Secondly, the window is slightly higher than it should be so there will be a "bulge" on the coin... similar to the first Casascius and Lealana coin. The special edition holograms are in-hand and we are currently pre-assembling them before they go on sale. Sign up for our newsletter on our home page to be first to know when they are available to purchase- I expect it to be sometime early February. Post by: CoinHoarder on January 19, 2014, 05:24:13 PM Thanks all for the reviews, comments, and pictures! Be sure I am listening to all of your feedback and taking all suggestions into serious consideration for future editions. I admit this has been a large learning process for me and if I could I would go back and do a few things differently. Just know that I am planning on improving all aspects of future coins... the quality of the coins and holograms, the tamper evidency (I am testing new methods to secure the private keys from the hypodermic needle attack), the packaging, pretty much everything.
The problem I'm having is figuring out where to draw the line when it comes to costs per coin and quality of the future editions. To get a quality coin made like everyone's used to seeing (a Casascius or Lealana), means I am going to have to raise the price of the coin quite a bit... which is something I want to avoid if possible. By releasing the first coins, I was mainly just trying to bring a super affordable physical Litecoin to the market- which I think I did. Although I want to improve the product, I don't want to abandon my original plan of making affordable physical cryptocoins. I am kind of torn in between making a higher quality product or a cheap one. It is kind of either or.. there is not much middle ground, as you get what you pay for with coins/holograms. Due to the large upfront costs of both a "cheap" coin and a "quality" coin, I don't really see me being able to make both at the same time any time soon. What to do what to do.. these are all things I need to figure out soon so I can go ahead and get the next batch of coins manufactured. Any more opinions are quite welcome. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Post by: Warning__3 on January 21, 2014, 12:17:45 AM I'd love to a more affordable physical bitcoin first but after that just go ahead and make the premium coin of your dream! *throwing bitcoins at the screen* :D
Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Post by: CoinHoarder on February 04, 2014, 06:08:26 AM Hi all!
We are happy to announce that the Special First Edition coins will be for sale starting February 5th! The ordering process will be a bit different this go around, as we have decided to put the coins up for sale in a series of auctions on Litecointalk.org. We have a few reasons for selling the coins in an auction format on litecointalk.org. The most important being that the full value of the top 10 coins in each week’s auction will be donated 100% to the Litecoin Development Team! We are also thinking forward and want to make some improvements to our Second Edition coins which we are planning. These improvements will cost more money up front both in nicer materials and buying new equipment. Also, if a few new people register for the forums because of this auction then that would be great. I hope you stick around, voice your opinion on other parts of the forum, and contribute to the Litecoin community. I think a good forum community is a key essential to the success of a cryptocoin. Why a ‘Special First Edition’ coin is special? We expect the Special First Edition coins to be worth more than the regular First Edition coins on the second hand market. The Special First Edition coins will be the only First Edition coins with windows revealing the Firstbits and they will be the only First Edition coins verifiably assembled by CryptoVest. The Litecoin addresses of each Special First Edition coin will be released to the public. Each Special First Edition coin comes with a certificate of authenticity with the Litecoin address, a QR code of that address, and the coin’s number in the batch (numbered 1 through 1000*). Each coin will come with a coin capsule (a coin capsule is an air-tight clear acrylic case to protect the coin.) These coins will be assembled BEFORE each auction and will ship within 3 business days of receiving payment at the end of the auction. Auction Dates & Times: Starting 9 PM EST on February 5th, we will auction off 200 coins each week until all 1000* Special First Edition coins are sold. All bids before the official start date and time of the auction will be discarded. Please only post before the auction start if you have a question. The tentative auction schedule is as follows: 9 PM EST 2/5/2014 – 9 PM EST 2/12/2014: Special First Edition Coins #1-200 9 PM EST 2/12/2014 – 9 PM EST 2/19/2014: Special First Edition Coins #201-400 9 PM EST 2/19/2014 – 9 PM EST 2/26/2014: Special First Edition Coins #401-600 9 PM EST 2/26/2014 – 9 PM EST 3/5/2014: Special First Edition Coins #601-800 9 PM EST 3/5/2014 – 9 PM EST 3/12/2014: Special First Edition Coins #801-1000 Auction Rules: - The auction will be denominated in Litecoins and the starting bid is .5 LTC per coin. - A minimum bid increase of .1 LTC will be enforced on all bids. - Bids will be accepted in each week’s auction until approximately 9 PM EST on the final auction day. A post in the auction thread will be made determining the official end of one auction and the start of the next. All bids made before this post is made will be considered valid. At that time, the starting bid will be reset and the next 200 coins will go up for auction. I will update the thread whenever possible to keep the highest bids in one post in an easy to read format. - To bid in the auction, please post a reply to the auction thread in the following format: Quantity of Coins @ Price per Coin Example Bids: 2@.5 (means 2 coin at .5 LTC each) 10@1 (means 10 coins at 1 LTC each) Shipping Costs: Domestic: 1-20 Coins: .5 LTC LTC; 21-50 Coins: 1.5 LTC; 51-200 Coins: 2.5 LTC International: 1-20 Coins: 1.5 LTC; 21-50 Coins: 3 LTC; 51-200 Coins: 4 LTC I won some coins in the auction, what happens next? Within two business days of the auction ending, I will private message each week’s auction winners on the Litecointalk.org forums with more details on how to complete the order. Each winner will be given a week to pay, at that time unpaid coins will be forfeited by their previous winners and added to the next week's auction. A 6th auction will be done if necessary. Disclaimers: - There are no replacement coins available, as these are limited edition coins. IE. If a package goes missing in the mail, the best I can do is give you a refund- there are no replacement coins. Each coin will be sent via USPS with delivery confirmation requiring a signature upon receiving the package. If you sign for the package, then you waive your right to a refund. This is to protect ourselves from fraud, unfortunately we need to do this as several packages from our regular First Edition coins went missing mysteriously. - There may be less than 1000 Special First Edition coins. We are running low on supply, and a few shipments from our First Edition coins have gone missing. On the final auction week, the final amount of Special First Edition coins will be announced. There will only be (at most) 1000 Special First Edition coins available. - As with our First Edition coins, it is not recommended to buy and sell Special First Edition coins in the second hand market. By doing so you are taking all risks of fraud, tampering, and counterfeiting on yourself. There is no guarantee (expressed or implied) of these coins being tamper proof. CryptoVest will not be held liable for loss of funds stored on the coins themselves in case of a natural disaster, fire, flood, tampering, counterfeiting, or theft. Please be careful about who you buy and sell coins from on the second hand market. We will give notice on our blog and through our newsletter mailing list on the first evidence of someone selling tampered or counterfeited coins. Luckily there are no signs of this as of yet, but possibly as Litecoin and the coins themselves grow in value it will attract bad actors. Thank you so much! Thank you all for your interest in our products, I can’t express this enough. Without our customer's support, we would have fallen flat on our faces with 4000 worthless coins and some neat stickers (a life time supply!) We look forward to providing new designs, more quality coins, and higher security coins in the near future. I have sincerely enjoyed being a part of this and providing a neat novelty product for one of my favorite cryptocoins- Litecoin! Rise chikun rise! ;D CoinHoarder PS: The auction thread is here: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=14710.0 Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. Without our customers support, we would have fallen flat on our faces with 4000 worthless coins and some neat stickers (a life time supply!) We look forward to providing new designs, more quality coins, and higher security coins in the near future. I have sincerely enjoyed being a part of this and providing a neat novelty product for one of my favorite cryptocoins- Litecoin! Rise chikun rise! ;D CoinHoarder PS: The auction thread is here: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=14710.0 Curious, you say here they go on sale on 1st of February yet your thread on the litecoin forum says February 5th. It was an accident.. I had to push it back a little bit due to being busy early this week. I wrote most of that post before I delayed it and simply forgot to change the first date. I fixed it, my apologies.

Serial numbers on the hologram. Year on the coin? Also, in regard to the Bitcoin coin people have been requesting: It would be super cool if you did something that hasnt been done yet. Create miliBitcoin physical coins :) Denominations: 1mBTC, 10 mBTC, 100 mBTC, and 1 BTC. Food for thought. Thanks, and nice coins :) Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- NEW: 'Special First Edition' Coins Post by: CoinHoarder on February 27, 2014, 02:59:00 AM I agree with the previous comments: Serial numbers on the hologram. For those that are interested, the last 200 special edition coins are up for auction now. These will be the last coins that are available until the second edition coins get here sometime in April/May. We are making huge headway in designing a more secure physical cryptocoin. I believe I have thwarted the hypodermic needle attack, but I need to do more experiments to make sure. Expect our second edition coins to be made of more quality parts (the coins and holograms), and have added security features. I am pretty excited about them, and I hope you guys are too! :) The last of the special edition coins can be bought here: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=16363.0 Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- NEW: 'Special First Edition' Coins Post by: SpeculateThis on February 27, 2014, 04:29:35 AM Nice coins CoinHoarder! I'm not sure about Smoothie, I would be surprised if he just quit. He is probably taking a break for a bit, waiting on new coins, or developing a new product... who knows. I believe there is one other physical Litecoin maker as of a couple days ago, you may see their website here: http://finitebydesign.net/ Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- NEW: 'Special First Edition' Coins Post by: CoinHoarder on March 12, 2014, 10:44:19 PM Thank you all for a successful series of auctions for the Special First Edition coins! Everything went well apart from a few minor speed bumps, and I was impressed with some of your generosity as far as raising money for the Litecoin Development Team. Over the next few days I am going to calculate how much LTC is to be donated to the Litecoin Development Team and decide which development initiative the LTC should go towards. If you have any suggestions feel free to let me know!
Currently I am in the process of finishing auction duties. This week's shipment was unfortunately delayed until Tuesday due to me being sick on Sunday and Monday, so they will arrive a day later than normal. I have several people marked down as having unpaid coins in the auction. If you could please check to see if you name is listed below and contact me. It is possible that I messed up and you actually did pay, please point this out to me if I am mistaken. Please contact me about this as soon as possible, I need to figure out what I will do with unpaid orders soon. The list: Auction 1: mtmlitecoin Ronderat Auction 2: Aero56 Auction 3: Aero56 Auction 4: scotjam All other orders have been shipped. I have set up a basic coin analyzer for CryptoVest here at http://cryptovest.uberbills.com Sorry to take so long to respond... I kind of forgot about this thread. Thank you for creating that- it is neat! There are no other addresses other than the 850 addresses. The rest of the coins were shipped both assembled and un-assembled, so I did not release a list of assembled coins because there is no way to tell the difference in-between those that I assembled and customer-assembled coins. Extreme caution should be used buying regular edition coins second hand, and they should only be bought loaded from people you really trust. The "special edition" coins on the other hand were all assembled by me, and are therefore more valuable on the 2nd hand market IMO. There are a lot of unloaded coins. I have 801 through 850, and there are also coins that were auctioned off, but I kept because the winner never paid. Those are all unloaded. I am actually going to sell some of those coins shortly, because I have way more than I want/need, so anyone who is interested stay tuned. They have recently been sold for upwards of $40 and $50 on Ebay recently... I think that is pretty cool! There are only 850 in existence, so they are fairly rare. :) I do plan on releasing some more coins in the future, but I am not sure when that will happen and the next coin will likely be a physical Bitcoin. I would like to release a higher quality coin, while also having affordable lower quality coins at the same time. My goal for the first edition Litecoins was to release an affordable physical Litecoin, because all physical cryptocurrencies were crazily overpriced at the time, and I would like to stay true to my "roots". However, I would also like to release some astonishing coins that I can be more proud of. I think you will see both come to fruition eventually. I am not yet certain of when, where, what, or how I will mint more coins. All I am fairly certain of at this point is that I will probably do so. I used to use cheaper options for international orders, but seemingly 50% of the shipments would go missing. I can ship internationally using a cheaper method if you like, but in that case, you will need to take the risk of whether you receive the package or not. I would suggest you buy more coins if you need an international delivery, and then sell them on Ebay or something to make some money back. I am selling the coins for $10, but I have seen them go upwards of $30-$40 on Ebay... $10 is the cheapest I have seen them go for lately. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on July 19, 2016, 03:12:05 PM This week is the last chance to get uncirculated Special First Edition coins for me for a while. My life is headed in an interesting and new direction, and I will be travelling for the next 4 months or so.
I have sold about 10 or so coins at $10 and $13 on Ebay during the past weeks, and I will be exiting the Ebay market at the end of the week. There is a potential opportunity for some resell profit. I am currently the cheapest price at $20 (but I am accepting offers), the next closest Ebay price is $25. I am offering them for $10 to Bitcointalk forum members. I also have a lot of low number coins available. I leave town early Monday, so any purchase would need to be completed by Friday at the latest. Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on July 22, 2016, 06:45:22 PM Last day to buy coins from me. I will be out of town for about 4 months starting Monday. I have already exited the Ebay market, so that is wide open for anyone that wants to flip these.
Buyers Beware: This Ebay listing is being advertised as a Special First Edition coin, but the picture shows a Regular First Edition coin. Special First Edition coins have a window in the hologram showing the firstbits, Regular First Edition coins do not. Regular First Edition coins may have been assembled by the buyer and not by myself, so there is a bigger potential for getting scammed when buying these coins from third parties. The coin in this listing is not a Special First Edition coin: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ONE-CryptoVest-Physical-LITECOIN-SPECIAL-First-Edition-Cryptocoin-Crypto-/262533815188?hash=item3d203c1b94:g:cMYAAOSwbsBXjjCe Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on November 13, 2016, 03:59:06 PM I will be out of town for about 4 months starting Monday I am back home now. I can only afford to send 3 coins and pay for shipping three times, then give a full refund so many times. Unfortunately, the more expensive shipping methods are the only reliable ones to a lot of countires. Thanks for your interest though. The only international purchase I had on there asked me to send an invoice with shipping costs added.
Usually I think, at least in my limited Ebay experience, Ebay takes care of international shipping through their International Shipping Program, which charges the buyer extra for shipping... at a price determined by Ebay. I guess if I have any issues with it, then I can disable international shipping, but so far I haven't. This question has come up a few times via PM, so I thought I would share the answer here. Some Litecoin wallets don't support the mini key format (which is what the coin inserts are printed in.) The easiest way to do it is to use: https://liteaddress.org/ If you are paranoid, then you can save the web site to your computer and use it offline, but all conversions happen client-side anyways and your private key is never sent to the server. Click on "Wallet Details" and enter the mini key exactly as it is on the coin insert. It will give you the private key translated into multiple formats, including WIF format and others. ---------------------- Do you have any holograms leftover for non-special edition or DIY coins? No, I destroyed all remaining holograms several months ago. I myself do not even have any extra holograms for my personal collection. All I have left now are coins that have already been assembled. I have sold all the coins that I want to at this point, and I am planning on keeping the ones I have left for a long time. ---------------------- Let me know if you have any trouble converting keys or redeeming coins. So far... (knock on wood), I have been able to solve all issues for anyone that has contacted me privately about having issues redeeming CryptoVest coins. The only known issue (which is pretty much a non-issue, just an inconvenience) thus far has to do with the font I used to print the private key inserts. It is sometimes challenging to distinguish which character the private key is due to similarities in the font and the small font size. If you are having trouble redeeming a private key and you are sure you are doing it correctly, then try looking for characters that may look alike, such as: 8 and B, k and K, or 1 and I. In one instance, someone was having trouble redeeming a CryptoVest coin, and after giving the usual directions of how to redeem them and it still not working, I then asked them to send me a picture of the coin insert. After a lot of trial and error switching out lowercase characters for uppercase etc, I finally figured out that the lower case k looked like an uppercase K. After switching it out I was able to redeem the value, which I forwarded on to the coin's owner (+ a Litecoin for bringing it to my attention). Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on November 18, 2017, 10:10:28 PM Hello all!
I just wanted to make sure that it is known that I have no association with http://www.cryptovest.com anymore. Anything they say or do (or don't say or do) should in no way be associated with the CryptoVest that mints physical cryptocurrencies. I lost the domain after failing to renew it on time, then a domain squatter snatched it up, and they wanted me to pay $1500 to get it back. Out of moral and financial quandry, I refused to buy back the domain I had originally purchased for $10. A new website is coming to the domain for my CryptoVest physical cryptocurrency projects: http://www.cryptovest.us/ Also, I have never had any association whatsoever with https://www.cryptovest.co.uk/ There was a book released as a physical cryptocurrency reference book that wrongly associated my physical cryptocurrency project with the .co.uk website and association. I was the first person to use the business name CryptoVest, and all others have simply copied the name (whether knowingly or not). Thanks, Ch Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: uartasic on November 19, 2017, 11:57:13 AM Hey CH,
Your items have become the bragging point of my nephews, i bought a few Zinodaurs back in the day. His cohort are gen Y and none believed the physical existence of your coins and LTC in general. I gave both of them a coin for Christmas years ago they still have. If you are hunting some holograms maybe we can come to an arrangement i have many spares from you left over. Can we expect some more fine coin work from you or are you just popping to clarify the whole CV domain issue? I did notice that recently and just wondered if you were just diversifying. By your statement above its clear that is not the case. Good to see you are till kicking around. They make great gifts!! It is nice that physical cryptocurrencies can help introduce people to the crypto world!! Some people need to hold it in their hands and see it with their own eyes before believing or "getting it". I personally have no need for the holograms. I do not have any, but I never intend to redeem the value on the coins either. If I want to get rid of them I will simply sell the coin with the hologram intact. There have been several people that have contacted me for extra holograms, but since I have destroyed all of the remaining ones there was nothing I could do. I would not be surprised if you (eventually) receive a few PMs with people offering to buy them after seeing that you own some. Or, I am sure they would sell on Ebay. To be honest, I have no clue what they're worth. Eventually I will mint some more coins, starting with a physical Bitcoin to honor my word from the Bitcoin design contest, but I am not sure when that will happen. It is not high up on my to-do list to be honest. With the way cryptocurrency values are appreciating so quickly, it is hard for me to make the investment that it requires to mint coins. I figure it will be a tough proposition to make enough from doing such to outpace what I can make by simply investing in cryptocurrencies. That's just the sad truth for this project... :\ One day though- I am determined to continue where I left off eventually. Thanks for the message! It is good to hear from you!!! Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: Zeta0S on November 20, 2017, 06:03:39 AM Hello all! Thanks, Ch How could you forgot? Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on November 20, 2017, 06:10:49 AM How could you forgot? Yeah, I am dumb... I got the warning emails that it was up for renewal, but then I just never acted on them. When I went to renew it, it was a day too late. :\ Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: Zeta0S on November 20, 2017, 06:37:34 AM How could you forgot? Yeah, I am dumb... I have used some of the seal / holograms to show my son and extended family how to redeem the coins. I went through about 3 and i must say the coin cleans up quite well after removing the adhesive / seal. Makes re-using the and re-sealing the coin easy. I also have shaky hands too and messed up a few. I get the feeling the kids will want more coins this Christmas now that Litecoin seems to be creeping up again, but i am down to my last 6. No chance. Ever since receiving the coins i have always kept one in my wallet for luck. It works. As for your domain issues, cyber squatters are up there with parking officers and people who pick peanuts out of poo...i had a company in china threaten to jack my domain back in my IT admin days. we called their bluff, we had staff in China also who found the guy. God bless the internet. ::) :P Hey CH, Your items have become the bragging point of my nephews, i bought a few Zinodaurs back in the day. UA Howdy, I gave away a lot of coins for Christmas the year I minted the coin too! They make great gifts!! It is nice that physical cryptocurrencies can help introduce people to the crypto world!! Long time no post! I feel like I must have communicated this at some point in the past, but I feel the need to do it again as more and more time passes and I see random businesses, websites, communities and even hackers use the term "CryptoVest". I'd like to be clear that I have no association with any of these entities, and have not done anything with CryptoVest since I released these physical Litecoins. Although this venture still holds a special place in my heart, to be honest I seriously doubt that I ever will use it again or make any coins in the future. There's one other thing regarding the coins themselves that I'd like to share. I still hold about 100 special edition coins which I opted not to sell, but I never made certificates of authenticity for these coins because at the time I was exhausted from assembling all of the coins that I sold. This slipped my mind when I destroyed the hard drive which stored these CoAs long ago, and I no longer have the ability to make them using existing design files, nor the desire the desire to re-create the design files in order to make them. IE. There are about a 100 special edition coins without Certificates of Authenticity which are still in my possession. I'm not sure when or if I'll ever sell these, but I wanted it to be known that they do exist and are legit despite having no CoA. In my opinion, I think the act of me selling them, or passing them down to my heirs, should be sufficient enough as proof of authenticity. It would be very hard for me to create counterfeit coins as I don't have the expertise necessary nor the design files, and I feel like my actions in this community speaks for itself as far as my trustworthiness and character. Thanks and I hope this update finds ya'll well! Be good, William Title: Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins Post by: CoinHoarder on September 09, 2023, 05:00:17 PM Let me know if you have any trouble converting keys or redeeming coins. As of today this remains to be the only known issue that I've identified regarding the coins that I made, and it's an easy fix. I've had absolutely zero notifications of anyone having their private keys compromised, of any counterfeit coins, or any other major issues. I hope and pray that this will continue to remain true for eternity, but please feel free to come forward (publicly or privately) if anything happens to your keys, or if you see anything suspicious. I would like to be alerted, and to alert the community. Thanks!
