Still won't ROI. Not that that makes them obsolete, they are good for learning about bitcoin and mining.

Actually, they do ROI, in about 3 months.
However, while I am eligible for one, the shipping alone makes it not worth it (and being in the EU I also have the VAT). Maybe if you ordered 2-3 in the past it can work.

"Removed former 1:1 limitation on coupons." from OP. So, if you previously ordered 1, you can buy even 10 new ones.

Assuming zero shipping cost: http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/084a42ee29

Obviously, you're not going to do it to get rich, it's 0.01 BTC.

except difficulty will level of at around 3-5 billion

i sent him a PM to see if there is a new coupon code he can provide, otherwise maybe a canadian groupbuy may be in order, since reshipping within canada is fairly inexpensive, maybe 0.10-0.15 BTC for tracked xpresspost packaging. (in contrast, US resellers charge about 0.35BTC to ship into Canada). Does the pricing given above apply to anyone who orders minimum 50, or must it be done via the designated resellers

Id love to pick up at least 10 of these, 5 or 6 for personal use and collection, and the rest as gifts and resale items.

@jasonslow, let's try to come up with some nice numbers. Otherwise, it's not worth it for any person to do this. I'd like to distribute, but we need orders first. I don't know if the other pinoys are keen on buying a bunch of block erupters.

Post by: mem on September 10, 2013, 08:57:36 AM
Wow they cost cheap. It would be good business for the resellers.

Actually all but a few resellers have been absolutely gutted, its a game of offloading your stock onto the next guy down the line when you get the news from friedcat that there is a price drop coming. If Canary / other resellers are pushing you to do a large order "but for an extra discount" its because their is a price halving happening in the next week and they dont want to get caught holding the bag.

I did two small test orders then made the mistake of going large. Sitting here with stock Im that I can either sell at a loss or mine @ a loss. Im glad I didn't let canary talk me up to 500+ keys at 0.55 btc which to his credit he did try (a salesman is a salesman).

So no more for mem, it was a fun little run then I got severely screwed over and  now have the options of doubling down in a poor attempt to break even  or bow out.

Im not the first who Canary pulled this trick on, credit to him as a salesman but as a person who was setting up to be a local supplier I couldn't do business with him again.

Getting the vouchers finally offered to me at a time when the voucher price == key price was just the final straw.

That being said, i am grateful to have been able to play around with the hardware.

TL;DR: 2 good test purchases as a potential reseller, First real purchase and I got fucked over so badly the little business will never recover.

I want to buy 50 of these but I dont know how :D I live in Turkey , if anyone is capable of selling me 50 of these and ship it to Turkey , let me know and quote me a price.

Am I failing anything ? If we buy 50 of these we can ROI in 2 months? (well if you buy them at 0.1) , is there anything wrong with my math? 50 of these will make 0.09 or so everyday with current difficulty? Lets say difficulty changes , 3 months or 4 months ROI looks A LOT better than no roi :D

what is a shiny asicminer device worth once it no longer makes profit? You should factor that in. personally, 0.05BTC each is worth the cool factor and blinky lights, but thats just me :)

i feel you could make resale profit at <0.15 BTC each, assuming you can find ebay/in-person buyers who will pay >$20

Damn... so many posts here and in other threads quoting math, showing clearly how these things are just as overpriced as ever. As in, you'll never make your money back from either these or the blades. That same has been true from the beginning of Asicminer sales.

And still people line up to buy buy buy.

At least they cut the price down to 0.12 btc.

Mining difficulty is now over 86,933,017 heading towards 300 Millions soon.
It's counting down to this price target of $5 to $7 per each USB block erupters.

Well, despite my previous negative post I have to say, its been a fun ride.

I loved mining with GPU's, I nearly ordered a FPGA from BFL before realizing it was very scammy and to be honest I would still like to play with an icarus FPGA right now despite the fact it would never pay itself off. Why ? because Im a nerd that genuinely enjoys playing with hardware, the more specialized the better, even more so if I can actually put it to monetary use no matter how insignificant.

Its For these reasons I'll be a sucker for gen2 keys and gen2 asic's.
Sign me up friedcat and even Canary, I'll happily pay a small to (hopefully not to) large sucker tax to player with the next lot of equipment.
I even wish I had multiple colours just so it would look nicer sitting on my desk, oh well :)

Just curious about one thing.

I have found this thread through ads on the site. I have setup a small group buy and wanted to buy a 100 BEs. I sent an e-mail to one of the address listed on the OP.

and basically I have been redirected to a reseller who is taking a 16% cut on the price to which I am not really interested.

IMO, a reseller sells small quantities to a higher price tag.

So my question is: What is the point to advertise a new price if it is not possible to have the product at that price and turn down potential customers?

I may recontact you at the next price drop to attempt to make a purchase or maybe I'll try an alternative product as I'm starting to see Bitfury USB keys around....

Anyway, if I have misunderstood something, I hope that you'll be able to make the communication clearer at your next ads campaign.

my thoughts as well. would have already bought.
these advertised prices are for previous customers only

Just curious about one thing.

I have found this thread through ads on the site. I have setup a small group buy and wanted to buy a 100 BEs. I sent an e-mail to one of the address listed on the OP.

agree + 1

in canada, teek is the reseller, and as a prior customer i was offered a discount of 0.13 BTC per unit (plus tax = 0.15 each), with no prospect of bulk discount. If direct-order from friedcat was available i would gladly organise a 50-100 unit canadian group buy

Well, I am a *previous customer*. I bought about 50 devices from SilentSonicBoom who has the cheapest prices. Even though he is located in the US, he was offering delivery to Canada and was accepting international sales as well. He stopped doing it. The official reason is that he does not have enough time but I would not be surprise to learn that in fact it was upsetting the other resellers and that he got pressure from AM to stop doing it.

So I kinda lost my 0.1 BTC coupons but this would have pretty much become meaningless if AM would have accepted to sell me in bulk at 0.12 BTC.

Oh well, maybe next week, I'll be glad that this purchase did not go through when there will be this next awesome ASIC opportunity!

Same here.  I have purchase previously, but through resellers.  Now I am ready to step up on my own to buy larger quantities, and was re-directed to the resellers.

In a case like this, I'll just pass.

We are glad to announce that we decided to continue distributing more Block Erupter USBs
as a limitation-free extension of the coupon plan in the last two months. Besides for mining alone,
at the coupon price level they serve perfectly as gifts as well as mining introduction devices.

What's the price if I don't have a coupon and just want to buy 50?

Do these come in those individual small white packaging boxes?

To the people saying that the difficulty isn't going to level off.

What do you think the manufacturing cost on the asic hardware is? Once it hits just above manufacturer cost they wont be able to drop the price any more and sales will drop off and that means less hash rate being added every day.

At what point are the big miners coming out a drop in the bucket? Eventually the hash rate that comes online every day will be so insignificant compared to the whole that difficulty will slow.

If you go back and look at the difficulty chart, when GPUs started mining Bitcoin it rose just like when ASIC's came out only over a longer period, eventually it leveled out and it will again.

Taking into account a price drop of half on usb and blade ASICs within the next month, my best guesstimate would be difficulty leveling off around November to mid December.

We may also see a price increase on Bitcoin as people that buy ASIC's hold Bitcoin instead of selling to make back ROI.

FWIW, I don't see difficulty starting to level off before 3rd quarter 2014.

I believe the difficulty will go %10+ forever on every difficulty change.

I am not a technical man nor I have any knowledge on circuits but I think if asics managed this much raise,  there would be some new hardware with much more higher hashrates , maybe they will still be asics but just 'better' ones.

this increase is all ASIC genenaration 1 coming to market. The second generation of .28 chips will start hitting the market in the fall. In regards to the price of manufacturing meeting the difficulty there's still ways to go. Remember the manufacturing cost of these USB sticks is around .01 to .02 (what a profit margin when they were selling them at over 2 BTC, talk about striking it rich with BTCs). The question that should be placed is when the manufacturers no longer think the profit margin is worth the trouble.

So the 30% a period will continue for the foreseeable future. These sticks will be unprofitable (power cost = revenue) at 2 million difficulty, but you'll never  recover your investment, you'll do it as a hobby. That's why they have lowered the price so much, they're trying to milk the last drop of milk out of the BTC cow and playing on the people stupidity into ordering 100s thinking they are smarter then the guy next door that is also ordering 100s. .08 is probably the lowest they will go before closing up shop or releasing a .28 chip

This sounds like sense. I bought 12 of these for 1900 usd. I feel like a right plonker now. I do not think I have been unlucky I should have done my research instead of jumping in head first. ASIC miners are a scam even at this price. A total Scam. I have mine mining alt currencies now in a hope they gain popularity as I have given up with getting 0.1 bitcoin per week.

I could have bough 15 bitcoins but now I am stuck with 1.6 Bitcoins that cost me 1900 USD. I can laugh about it now but I did go through some darkness about it.

I'd like to know that too. The only European reseller is adding 60% margin + shipping.

At least they should be available through more resellers. Monopoly isn't good.

If yall want to get 50, I ship here/international for basically my margin being 10$/hr. Free shipping too unlike most.

Kind of funny how when ASIC miners were the only game in town everyone was saying how great of a guy friedcat is for producing and selling a product that was getting into peoples hands... now some want to tar and feather him because of things out of his control.

My only bitch is I was one of the first buyer of the USB miners where I bought 15 @ 1.99BTC each, in Canary's group buy #1 and was one of the last to get the coupon at .15 each when he was selling them to anybody at .18. It would have been nice if the coupon deal would have been done more fair than it was.

Same here, by the time the coupon was offered it was worthless.

its all about the resale for these, personal use will never turn a profit sadly.

I bought 8 of them for about 1.3 BTC (after tax, shipping, etc), and just resold 3 of them for a total 0.8 BTC, putting me at a relative cost of 0.1BTC per unit i still have. These have each mined almost 0.01BTC and are still up for sale :)

Did Kano already saw this?  :o Maybe he will stop bashing USB erupters now

Still won't ROI. Not that that makes them obsolete, they are good for learning about bitcoin and mining.

Number is the only factor. If there are at least 50 connected, You still do the true thing as there are many scams, unless the true 100Gh/s in 28nm transistor released into wild.

For me, I still select this one if available. Which I suggest people to select the friedcat's being first then ask other as currently no one is doing the true thing at a moment. No True hashrate= being dead.
