Title: What percentage of net worth do you invest in cryptocurrency?
Post by: jerry0 on February 15, 2018, 04:52:23 AM
For the people that first bought cryptocurrency, im curious but what percentage of your net worth did you invest?  To me, net worth would be all the money in your bank accounts minus anything you owe etc.  Of course you include your house and properties you own.  However, the issue with those are well they aren't liquid cash where you can have access to it anytime.

So based on your net worth, what percentage did you put into cryptocurrency?  Im using that word as oppose to bitcoin since well some people definitely only invest in altcoins etc.  Like let say someone's net worth is 50k.  Let say they don't own a house or anything etc.  This 50k is in bank account in savings or anything thats low risk etc.   Now from what i read online, it seems that articles seem to suggest to not put more than 10 percent max in it.  Many mention 5 percent or even less etc.  First off, does anyone here think thats very low or actually very high?  The guy with 50k would mean he could put either 5k or 2500.  Now that isn't exactly a very tiny amount but in order to make a lot of money, that would be hard.  I was watching cnba and they had that guy chamath talk about bitcoin and he mentioned that you should invest 1 percent of your net worth into bitcoin.  The other hosts would say well many people don't have the money you have to invest big etc.  But he then said well let say you only want have 100 dollars to invest.  If you invest the other 99 in other things like stocks or bonds, do 1 dollar in bitcoin because if you lose money in the other 99 percent.. well that 1 percent in bitcoin could possibly offset your losses etc.

So based on that, let say someone has 10000 dollars in money in bank account etc.  But they are basically paycheck to paycheck.  Wouldn't it be risky for that person to put even 1000 dollars?  Because the average net worth of most people are well very low etc.  Then i read about people that put everything in their bank account into cryptocurrency etc.  Do you think those people are crazy for doing that?  I definitely do.  But the thing that shocked me are those stories of people selling their house or getting a big loan to buy bitcoin etc.  I mean does anyone here think that is just ridiculous?

So if someone has say 10k in their bank account to invest, im curious how much money the average crypto investor would invest.  Im guessing 500-2000 is probably the right amount?  However im sure there are ppl out there lot of them that just put in 5k or even more into it right?

The other thing is this.  What if someone only invested 5 percent or 10 percent or something like 2 percent or as high as 25 percent into crypto.  Then it goes all by a huge margin and suddenly their cryptocurrency value compared to their net worth or money in bank account is 50/50 or even higher?  If thats the case, would you say that person should at least cash something out?  Since there are lot of ppl that invested and then made a lot in returns etc... where imagine someone had 20k in bank account.  Invested say 2k.  Then that 2k is turns into 25k.  And their bank account has say 15k.  Would it be smart to just keep holding if they don't need access to the money yet?

Because cryptocurrency is very volatile and obviously isn't something you should put a huge percentage of your money into.  However, im curious about those people that had their cryptocurrency value go higher than their bank account value which im sure is many people.  Also what percentage of people would you say out there whether they told their house or use all the money in their bank account where they have something like 10k or less in their bank account and have something like 50k or even 100k or more in crypto?  I would at first think that is crazy but im guessing this is pretty common now since people are selling their homes for btc etc?

I don't have a fixed amount of my net worth separated for investing in bitcoin. I just invest with the leftover money which i get after deducting all my expenses and putting some amount in savings and others, so let's say I have 100$ for this month and the price of bitcoin is really high, so i just wait for it to drop or invest in an other ICO, of course after doing all the necessary research. And hopd it until I don't find any other ICO for like 1-2 months.
And currently I have 6% of my net worth as bitcoin by following this particular method for about two years.

Then after i started to invest these money in exchanges . Even airdrops also helped me to collect some ether to invest . Again one more thing i forgot some youtube earning also .

I think for me its only about 20-30%. I need to divide my income to my expenses and savings for emergency cases. There are also amortization and mutual funds to be considered. Somehow I just diversify my investments to have more options and to feel secure of my finances. Its better to be financially stable to give is peace of mind and give us a sense of security.
Me too, before I invest into the cryptocurrency I will give first the needs of my family especially my son and daughter for their school activities and the budget in the house for our food and house rental especially the billing of the electricity and the water bill, but if I will be able to loan an big amount of money to invest on cryptocurrency then maybe I will invest only the half of the money and the other half will be go to my family. Just like what many said you must be financially and physically stable before you to invest a big amount of money in cryptocurrency because we all know that it is a big risk for all of us.

Right now Bitcoin is a huge percentage of my net worth because I'm still young so I can afford to be reckless. If Bitcoin went to zero tomorrow, it wouldn't completely ruin me, I still have a lot of time till retirement. But the potential payoff is huge, if Bitcoin goes to the moon, I can retire very early and live off some sort of passive income that could be created after I would cash out most of my coins.

I'm flat broke and I sold all my bitcoins 2 months ago.
I don't want to invest into altcoins and I don't have money to invest in BTC.
I have to find a 9/5 job and put my finances into order. :(
Crypto trading is not my thing,I always sell BTC at the wrong time.
trading is not for everyone and that is the reality here in crypto, many tries their luck but more of them are failure so better not to try if.

but the wrong timing is always the case because many of us are trying our best but it is not for us.

I put most of my savings in crypto currencies especially in Bitcoin, my savings is like 15% of my net worth and I do it monthly.

I safely invest in crypto currencies as I only put the money that I can afford to lose therefore whatever happens in crypto currencies in the future I can still survive. For me selling your house just to invest in crypto currencies is a crazy thinking and I will not try this kind of move.

It depends on situation, I only invest when I think price is down. In current bull market i will never invest. When its bearish, I put half of my savings into bitcoin and so far it has given me good return. Never put all your money into bitcoin, always spare some cash for usage.

I myself allocate less than 5% of my net worth to invest in crypto I think this is still small. As you've seen in the TV interview maybe they just wanna play safe I kinda agree that investing in crypto with big capital is very risky, well the industry is still young and anything could happen, however if their suggestion is only 1%, in my opinion, it's too small but it's good when the net worth is 100k USD or more.

If I'll get into full-time job soon, I think I'll allocate 2.5% for now but it'll increase slowly with a ceiling of up to 10%. Getting higher than 10% is quite high already for such investments only although there is guaranteed profits regardless of the condition of the market.

I have a similar situation. I'm also young, my career life is basically just starting these days. I earn enough to live a rather comfortable life, and my savings are small, so in case I lose them it would be sad but not much of a difference from the current situation. Bitcoin is about 60% of my savings right now, but I watch the market as well as am ready to live without it (I am aware of the risks and willing to take them). Come to think of it, though, it's indeed a huge part of my money in BTC... A friend of mine has 100% of his savings in BTC, though.

Well in my case, I do not have any exact amount to invest in cryptocurrency. What am I doing is invest all of the extra money that I will not gonna use for a long time. Instead of letting it in my physical wallet, I would rather invest it in something that I know I will gain profit into it. No distinct amount as long as the money that I have is free or not gonna be use.

That's a big risk if your friend in 100% on BTC.

Personally, I just have a small portion of my wealth on BTC around 20%, I can't afford to invest more because of some house mortgage, so I just try to balance everything. But I'll give props to those young investors we have today, the potential to retire early because of BTC is there. I wish I have known BTC when I still have a lot of money to invest, just saying.

I am not setting a fixed percentage in my income to be devoted to crypto. Sometimes I give a small allocation. Sometimes I also give quite a significant allocation to crypto. Sometimes there is none at all. In fact there are times when instead of buying what I do is withdraw and then convert it into fiat when there is a need. So it all depends on the available of extra fund.

I'm not count my investment because mostly thatt i use to buy bitcoin and hold is from bounty. Some bounties and airdrops in past really give people big rewards, and i live with my main job, make investment or maybe withdraw some if i need money that really urgent. And keep do bounty until now, but now i am only in this signature campaign that paid in BTC and have plan to hold it until halving come.

I have been working in this financial market for a long time and I know the risk of it is quite high.  Therefore, I usually do not allocate too much capital to this market, this is a market full of manipulation.  So, I decided to use 30% of my salary every month to invest in the crypto market and I only hold.  I think hold is the best way to have a guaranteed profit because trading means we still waste time and pay a lot for our mistakes.

I have savings which the purpose is for investing, the cryptocurrency market is more riskier than the stock market and I allocate 20% of my capital. I diversify my money because it is part of my risk management. I have investment in stocks and also in real estates. We should always remember that investing is making money sith money but there are risks and we can guarantee that we can win in every type of investment that we are making.

Yes indeed the bounty campaign program can be relied on for investment and it must be a bounty signature campaign with BTC Barayan, as I follow the signature of the yobit to continue to collect BTC and wait for halving to occur.
I rely on the rewards for investment and for me it is enough for me in the future.

This might just impact on us psychologically if we lost some profit upon investing a portion of our net worth or income, unlike just putting the fund we would like to invest based on our decision to the currentarket status. But if we are aiming to reach great amount of bitcoin, I would probably suggest to invest regularly, without considering if the market is profitable or not. In this way, both huge market price and low market price is what we can think of psychologically to avoid frsutration everytime we sell.

well i made agreement with my Wife that 8% of my monthly wage will come to crypto investing and luckily he allows me to do,but with another agreement that all my sidelines will be divided for me and our Bank savings and yeah we agreed to that.

i know how hard for her to make budgeting so i allow myself to cover our Bank savings because that is for the future of our Girls.

since I first entered cryptocurrency I already knew that cryptocurrency has high volatility so I don't use personal money or savings to start investing. The first thing I did to get a capital investment was to follow a faucet and a bounty project. after the bounty is finished I will get a token. then I will sell tokens and use them to buy bitcoin and altcoin. so I started this crypto investment without using fait money.

I have known cryptocurrency for about 4 years, it is enough time to know that most people invest with most of the assets
owned. Even to sell houses and cars that are owned to be able to buy bitcoin, there is even more terrible that is buying
bitcoin with money from bank loans. In my opinion something like that is so careless that it might make us poor. For me to
invest only using a maximum of 20% of all my finances. Because to succeed in the world of cryptocurrency always follow the
basic rules of investing money that we can afford to lose.

Or better yet, invest using your expendable money only. You can't invest your life savings on to something since that'll become gambling at that point. You gotta save something for yourself for when the winter comes. Especially with bitcoin where there is no guarantee what it's price will be in a day or two. In my observation it's the people who don't put everything on the line are the ones who really succeed in this world.

I think online advice is not entirely true for each person, it depends on the situation of each person and a lot of other factors. For example, you and I have 50k USD together, but I have small children, you are still single, then you will probably use up to 50% of the property (or "all in" as some people I know) But I will be less much more than that.

I believe in crypto and all my payments are in crypto. Over 60% of my assets are in crypto. I usually spend 20% of the value in fiat so im left with about 20% fiat at all times. Of you afraid, the price will drop you just convert some of it to tether coin. I do this so when the bear market comes I can profit from it by buying more crypto and selling when its bull season.

Also, you should say what percentage of net worth do you gamble in crypto.

You invest in houses, businesses, assets etc.

You gamble on horses, black jack and crypto

Agree with your opinion that investing in the capital market is very risky and full of high risk. but I am also very amazed that you allocated 30% of your salary to invest in crypto. I don't have the courage like you to do that. I will only invest in bitcoin if there is more money than my monthly needs. but if I get it from the bounty hunter. I'll bet on it even though it requires a very thorough analysis so that it doesn't suffer losses. but investing in bitcoin is definitely the main compared to altcoin

I started to invest in 2012 by buying mining material like the famous video cards that were sold shortly afterwards for low profit. For months now I've been investing monthly directly buying cryptos through exchange and I think it's the best choice at the moment. So I invest what I can currently afford to “lose”.

If I am one of those people that bought bitcoin at its earlier stages, I would be so happy right now and be sitting in my house not just with my bitcoins on my ledger but also a lot of altcoins with good values in the market now. But I am not, so investing and trading is just a side job to me. I did earned some good amount of money in the past, but right now, it is kind of just there.

You will say that easily now as it can be to you. But it isn't that easy to wait while a coin that seem worthless was occupying good space  ;D The point is then that, you would have sold very cheap too when it was in few dollars.

I think 5%-10% is the percentage of net worth you can invest in cryptocurrency, although you can invest in any percentage you want. However, if you decide to invest more than 50% of net worth, you need to know the risk, so if something happens with your investment, you can find a solution to solve it. I don't have a fixed amount to invest in cryptocurrency because if I want to buy more bitcoin, I only use the money that I got from 2017-2018 so I don't use my savings in the bank to buy bitcoin.

What about consider to think that instead of investment, we could make bitcoin as our personal savings account wherein, any amount would do, as long as we are aware of the market condition and still be cautious whenever there is a big decline, so we can withdraw out and save our funds from loss? Because thinking about bitcoin only for investment will forever be like this, and the adoption and finding the true meaning of bitcoin's value will not be present. Unlike, making it like a bank account, withdrawing or cashing in any amounts will just need a little bit of knowledge in market and technical analysis.

I have also read and heard stories about people who used up all of their savings or people sold their houses to buy bitcoin. I think people like this are people who are very brave to take risks. honestly i don't dare like that i only use as much as 20% of my salary to buy bitcoin and i also join the bounty project to increase my bitcoin amount.

you dont need to follow them , what you are doing is already correct  . if you think 20 percent is the only amount what you can afford then go for it   . just dont exceed with that limit because once you loose it will be hard for you to accept your losses  but you can always decrease that amount  .  joining  bounty is also a good way too , like u i also hunt for other crypto jobs so that i can increase my crypto hodling    . in this risky world we are living , we need to be smart or wise to stay on the game   .

So it all depends on the available of extra fund.
well i made agreement with my Wife that 8% of my monthly wage will come to crypto investing and luckily he allows me to do,but with another agreement that all my sidelines will be divided for me and our Bank savings and yeah we agreed to that.

i know how hard for her to make budgeting so i allow myself to cover our Bank savings because that is for the future of our Girls.

That is the point. It is not all the time that there is extra money for crypto investing. Better for your family because you have different sources of income and that you can always set aside a certain percentage every month that will go to crypto. Sometimes, I don't have that extra. Savings is sometimes more important than investment. Of course, if the savings is big enough, a portion of it may go to crypto. But I give priority to savings in the bank because of future unforeseen needs.

in my opinion that size is good enough the most important thing is you do it independently, and you need to appreciate the results. because there are still many people who lose money for their funds, and they are still struggling to return the funds they have at the beginning, therefore you need to feel enough with the income earned.

I don't have any debts yet, my spending is so little compared to my net worth so I don't keep much cash in my account. That's why over 90% of my net worth is in a form of investment, not liquid cash. Almost all of that investment is in Bitcoin. Yes, I'm a hodler. You might wanna say this is risky but I'm okay with the risk for now.

It depends on your risk profile. I currently live alone and have no dependents so I'm able to afford that high risk Bitcoin investment for its high gain potential. People who already have family, dependents, and are looking for a stable future shouldn't invest too much in crypto because if it goes the wrong way it might ruin their lives.

This pretty much settles it. Bitcoin is not another get rich scheme, there are people who gain profits from it yes, but there are also people who lose money. Everything depends on how you take in bitcoin as an investor. If you're alone with no family then you might be able to afford it, but otherwise just invest something that you're comfortable with, something that you wouldn't put your family's future away.

No offence to Bitcoin but I don't keep any portion of my net worth in cryptocurrencies. It is very risky plus I also don't by sleepless nights due to excessive movements in the prices. I only keep small amount of money in Bitcoin, around $80-100 to pay for any instant expense in Bitcoins.

Percentage varies depending on case-to-case. Younger individuals are more tend to take risks then the aged individuals having families. So young individuals can invest more percentage of their net worth in cryptocurrencies than latter.

everyone has different abilities about how much money is invested in cryptocurrency. and I only use 10% of my salary for investment. because I still have many dependents to pay such as vehicle installments and other needs. but I am also still active to always follow bounty campaigns and I always use bounty tokens to buy bitcoin.

some of them are brave enough to invest most of their money into cryptocurrency, of course there are those who still struggle so that their investment can provide benefits because some of them are investing when the market price increases, of course they expect bitcoin to increase sharply. for those of us who invest in small amounts of course must be grateful because in any situation we can still make a little profit

Surely does, that investors of cryptocurrency will mainly not invest the entire funds they have because of commodities and needs, but to become efficient in investment, we could accumulate bitcoin without really investing funds coming from our physical work. Doing bounty is ome of the best option to do that, but considering the fact that it is merely hard to find legit bounty, management of bounty on the other hand, will lead us to earn up till this time. And discover more opportunities such as offering services on our services section.

When it comes to asset allocation it varies from person to person as it requires an assessment of the current financial position, age and risk profile in general. So kindly access your financial position by yourself as the crypto assets are more volatile in nature. Several studies reveal the majority of the crypto investors are millennials they tend to take more risk than older people. The famous saying from Warren Buffet 'Don't put all your eggs in the single basket' So spread your investments with all the assets and set aside a portion with which you will be comfortable to take higher risk. My allocation would be 10% to 20% depends on the market conditions and don't invest more than what you afford to lose.

In cryptocurrency you have to invest a sum of money that you would like to save anyway. Investments in crypto are made in the medium and long term, so that money has to be outside the daily expenses. I allocate for my investment a fund of 25% of the money I make at work. We don't know when there will be a new bull run, so we are investing and waiting, maybe for years.

Crypto investment is very risky and 25% of your earning investing in such high-risk investments is even very risky. You need to invest diversify your investments like in shares, real estate, gold and etc,. No one knows when it will grow and when it will fall. So I have invested just around 5% and doing it for quite some time.

I think 25% of the income is pretty good, of course before he does that, he knows the risks. a big risk has a big advantage too. I even went more than 50% for crypto, because the wealth I owned all started with crypto, so I didn't hesitate to put a lot of money here.

For now, how much I invested in cryptocurrency is almost 50%. That is for money only, not including other money. And I can say all my money is in cryptocurrency, not including salary from my current job. I am not a person who has a lot of money, but I prefer my money to be in crypto.

I would say about 5-10% of my net worth would be dedicated to crypto.
And I would try to gain more profit by playing it in exchange doing trades.
I couldn't invest more than that because of the bills and other expenses.

My percentage is also almost 50%, most of which I invested in bitcoin, because my trust is very high that this year halving can make a high price increase.
some are in altcoin, I also have to be able to get daily or weekly profits to just savings and increase the amount of my assets to plant on bitcoin.
