I like the merit system even though I joined just a few months ago and therefore have started from scratch. If you’re desperate about ranking up, you could easily receive daily merits that would allow you to zip through the ranks as fast as the activity requirements allow. It just requires the effort of posting useful stuff. A lot of new users seem to complain that they’re not receiving enough merit. That just means they’re not posting enough useful stuff. Merit is an excellent way to gain a feel of what kind of content the Bitcointalk community actually appreciates. I do not think multiple accounts are allowed from same IP address. What you mentioned about IPv4 users is correct though. When someone tries to create multiple accounts from same IP, posting is disabled on those accounts and the user will have to send some bitcoins to given address. Theymos Will Never put KYC in here, first he have to build a server to store all of those KYC data and to secure it from hackers, that itself is a hard task (as if the forum hack in 2015 wasn't enough). Second, this forum were built by Satoshi originally, he has a big concern regarding privacy, and I'm sure Theymos too. Every forums has spammers, there are no forum that is free from it. But, even we can help against spammers without KYC bullcrap, if you see a spam or posts that are against the forum rules, simply report them and the mods will sort it out quickly. If you put all the weeds and the vermin on ignore, then it is possible to use Bitcoin Talk for informed discussions. I don't lose anything by giving away these merits, and I gain by helping to clean up the forum.
