I personally HODL ETH as I view it as the top blockchain in terms of what ICO's and projects use. If your opinion(s) out there, who do you think are their biggest competitors in terms of ICO's and blockchain projects?

I have heard that NEO is one of them but I'm curious to know who else could challenge them in that regard.

Besides NEO, I personally think Waves could be a worthy competitor after the smart contracts are implemented.  Waves has a strong team and have been marketing it's project very well.  The Waves DEX is also nice because it eliminates the fear of losing tokens on centralized exchanges if they get hacked.

yes, agree with you, I think so too, the wave will be a competitor to ethereum (ETH), because the wave has a character and platform similar to ethereum, that is, the smartcontract feature.
besides waves, I think NXT will also be one of the competitors, because NXT also has a similar platform.

its true ETH is a currency worth holding, other altcoins haven't quite been able to close the gap, but i too share the though that NEO might be strong in future, i also think waves has a great potential.

Universa (UTN) - Brings the best of both ETH & BTC. Making massive strides on a weekly basis in the corporate/political world, will be a top 10 coin by the 2019.

Besides that my next one would be WAVES, it just does everything right and is perfect for ANYONE to simply get started with their own token.

Lastly I gotta mention little ol ECC the coin that just keeps chuggin, not an ETH killer but will be a formidable platform in the future.

I agree with major responses here, NEO is one of the challenger. forget about Lisk and other altcoins previously i used to think Lisk as a huge contestant but now seeing the organisation i fear.

I think there should be no doubt here,and it is clear that the Ethereum competitor is bitcoin!After all, it all started with bitcoin!In second place Ethereum, then BCH and then the other altcoins!

None of them are close at the moment. Almost all ICOs are still conducted on the Ethereum blockchain and not NEO or WAVES, which means that pretty much most of these projects are still at the speculation only phase.

ETH should remain to be the number 1 smart contract coin for a while to come. At least for a year to 2 years at minimum.

I think EOS, NEO and ICX are the biggest competitors. But the good thing is that they are also complimentary. I believe that these will grow together as they have a slightly different market segment.

Let's not forget EOS that is going to launch its platform in June. At its inception, it was advertised as Ethereum Killer that I doubt. But it can be a good competitor to Ethereum.

To list a few i would say waves, eos, cardano, and iota, but people don't care as much of the tech than what came first and ethereum is the first of it's kind just like bitcoin.

I think ripple is an eth rival, not a look at their altcoin type, but in terms of market volume, eth and ripple market volumes always precede each other, sometimes eth is positioned second after bitcoin and sometimes ripple occupies runner up position

For me it's litecoin or waves, but to a lesser extent. Let's see how development will progress and then draw conclusions as far as we were right.

I think there are 2 competitors for eth. It's Neo and EOS. It's too early to talk about EOS. If developers implement the idea of ​​asynchronous smart contracts, which will give a transaction speed of more than 100,000 per second, it will be very cool. It has long been predicted Waves can be the toughest rival of Ethereum. some projects like ZrCoin, Starta, Wager and Encryptotel have been successful when token sales.
Neo also has great potential to replace ethereum in the future, Red Pulse is great success by using Neo platform.

I think Neo is worthy of being the greatest competitor for Ethereum. Because I have observed that alt's using platform waves has slow growth and its popularity continues to decline. But not for now and it is difficult for both to pursue the position of Ethereum.

Eth's competitors are those altcoins that is also a top ranking coins in coinmarketcap.

NEO is just one of Ethereum's various competitors. It is my belief however that on the same track, Ethereum is the king and is ahead of its competitors by a significant margin. NEO is far behind Ethereum and its other competitors. Waves is even closer. And then we also have NEM, which is believed to be fundamentally great as a platform. And then Strat is also posing as one of great alternatives. Ethereum Classic is another one, which I truly believe is an underrated project.

You are wrong dude, The only competitors for ethereum is bitcoin and those are working on the smartcontract but honestly I don't take seriously about those are tying to issued their own smartcontract because ethereum is the smartcontract creator. Those top ranking coins in the coinmarketcap worked on the different area I suppose.

Neo is one of the best altcoins just liek ethereum and obviously it is giving tough time to other prominent coins as well. Neo and ethereum are struggling for the best altcoin position.

Only real one out there is Neo as it have similar tech behind it and its even older project then ethereum.Also Neo is backed buy china so they will push the progres out for it and it will surrpase ethereum in some time for sure

But it's not a real competitor to Ethereum. Vitalik recently suggested a new improved model of ICO 2.0 which would allow investors to release funds raised in steps on a monthly bases and vote if the funds should be released or not. I think this can greatly improve the ICO ecosystem and prevent scams.

LISK from Germany is going to be the biggest threat to ethereum. Progress is slow but solid with scalability and accessibility in mind. This year they will be releasing the SDK to allow DAPPS and ICOs on their blockchain written in javascript. ICOs will move from eth and neo to LISK by the end of the year.

Smartcontracts like erc20 have Waves and soon will have EOS and STEEM as SMT, so they will be biggest, eos even have slogan as etherium killer.

There are quite a few smart contract platforms that aim to compete with Ethereum. Yes, NEO is one. Cardano is the highest competitor in marketcap, but is still at a very early stage. There are plenty of others out there, too.
ETH does have quite a substantial first-mover advantage - just look at the EEA for a start.
Also remember it is not always the best technology that wins, there is also popularity.

Neo and Waves could be future competitors but Ethereum is currently so dominant that there really is no current competitor at the moment.

I think that the competitor is the projects on which ICO is actively conducted. For today, from the competitors I see only NEO. The rest is only gaining momentum.

I think that at the moment the competitor of the etherium can be only NEO. The rest are still too far from NEO.

I think NEM (XEM), and Universa (UTN) are going to be ETH's top competition. I am holding on some Universa as it might become the next ETH, though I want to buy XEM but have no funds to spare at the moment.

I dont agree with this. Waves and nxt have the same platform like etherium and its true.
But have same platform could not guarantee it can be good enough competitor with etherium.
Etherium has very big community that waves and nxt dont have. So they can not be good competitor.

Eth is constantly being referred to as the next bitcoin, so in that context maybe bitcoin, though i dont agree with that one. Neo, ripple, litecoin and waves might be named as some of the biggest competitors, but nowhere close to it yet.

The strongest competitor of ETH is NEO for sure...maybe in 2019 in could even overthrone ETH. Other platfrom-based coins for the future can be WAVES and Stellar. And also the newcomers for ICOs platform can be interesting alternative: ICX and STRAT. So many choices! Only time will show which will succeed and which will fall.

I think there are two other contenders besides NEO. The first one is QTUM, and there are more and more ICO projects based on QTUM. The other project is EOS, and EOS may surpass ETH.

Cardano has a good sciences background, supported by Japan. Anyway today ETH very strong because a good promotion it's main thing for price up.

I strongly agree, many threads mention the NEO is a future Ethereum competitor or even in the near future. because there are already ICOs that are NEO based, and indeed in my opinion also NEO very very potential to become the competitor of ethereum.

I also think NEO has a good potential and popularity to be a real competitor of the ethereum. After of that, IOTA and Waves might be good competitors of the ethereum in the future.

By being supported by China there is no doubt about that NEO is the biggest competitor of ETH. At ETH a lot of competitors, but I think the worst competitor EOS. Because children have more perspective and perfect technology. EOS will definitely reach at a cost of ETH after a year or 2 years.

I think NEM will be a good competitor of Eth one day. The number of ICOs using NEM as platform is slowly growing and the price of the token is growing as well. Some ICO under NEM was a success as well, I think that is a good indication that it well be a good competitor someday.

I think ethereum got lot of compitetor but the common are
Bitcoin and litecoin and the other the altcoin token. I think there are thousands of token in altcoin. They all want to pass on ethereum but ethereum got big investor and more popularity than them.

Well in my opinion I think it is credits if they can do what they promised to do. It's process over a million transaction per second according to what they said. They recently lunch their alpha and have announced over hundred users already. They just finished having their ICO and yet to hit exchanges. So I see them as a potential competitors.

EOS is the competitor of the Etherium. The EOS tokens do not janitsya, because before you a unique tool. This is a high-tech platform, created on the basis of BlockChain technology. Tokens were launched in the summer of 2017 and in a short time they made their way to TOP 10 of the best crypto currency. The project resembles the concept of Ether. The EOS platform is used to host smart contracts used for open source projects and programs for users.

I  think EOS, NEO, ICON, Waves, Wanchain, Boscoin, Tezo, and Qtum are some of the projects that comes to mind, it will be interesting how these projects competitive successfully with Ethereum because in my opinion Ethereum is far ahead of all these projects on my list

There are quite a number of ETH competitors. The major ones I can think of are Neo, waves, and EOS. IMO, Neo is the stronger and the development team is strong.

even though waves has its own blockchain network and wallet which is very good and convenient for me i think as with regards to market prices i don't think so, based on waves 3 month period prices it can't even reach $20 yet while ETH easily broke the $1k price point in 2 months if i am not mistaken.

I don't consider no onenas a competitor for ethereum because ethereum is the best innits region and no one still can compete with that,but XRP and NEO are the competitors for the market cap value and for some days ripple over taken for some days bit ethereum take place its position soon after that.

NEM is a very promising project. Technologically this project could be compared with ETH but it is still not so popular. Everything depends only on the development partners. If they show the same persistent, NEM will have a bright future.

For me Ethereum's biggest competitor is NEO and LiteCoin because these other Top Altcoins are not just an ordinary altcoins but they're also like Ethereum's smart contract for full transparent audit for new Altcoins.

Actually Ethereum has a lot of competitors for long term too. Neo, Waves, even Komodo is a competitor. Just check back again this thread 1-2 years later and you will see how fast this crypto world change.

There are more such projects, but does it make sense from the point of view of convenience and safety? I think that many can compete with Ethereum, but what they will offer and how it will look will only show time.

I think the biggest and only competitor to Ethereum is NEO. NEO has strong support in China and operates no worse than Ethereum and in some aspects (code) surpasses Ethereum.

it is difficult to answer this question. The crypto market is very moving. sometimes you are surprised. some coins are steadily rising and are getting stronger in the crypto market by making new agreements. I think the new competitors are ripple and trx for eth

Mainnet is already out for Cardano -- e.g. a working product, and is still very actively continuing to improve upon it.
EOS will deploy their Mainnet sometime in June I think.

No rivals with no other coins? Don't make me laugh, Litcoin can be a rival to Ethereum. All Litecoin needs is the marketing.

Litecoin does not provide ICOs, but is more similar to the other first-generation coins like Bitcoin or BCash, etc.

Ethereum is considered the second-generation coins; while Neo and Cardano are considered the 3rd Generation coins.

Ethereum is wonderful project, but has couple of competitors. Among them NEO is the strongest and this is the one that can hurt Ethereum, in my opinion.

Ripple is ETH's biggest competitors for me.
I think Ripple can beat ETH in the future, but maybe 1-2 years later.
NEO is quite good too,  but to be said as ETH's biggest competitor i think NEO is the second competitor for ETH.

Biggest competitor long term? I don't see any. Eth might one day take the #1 spot from btc, but that's far into the future. Biggest competitor short term, maybe in terms of growth and better gains in 2018 and 2019 would probably be Neo. But long term, I would hodl eth.

Ethereum is seen as a rival because NEO has Asian market behind it. But NEO does not have a CEO like Vitalik Buterin.  ;D So I do not think it's something to be scared of.

I can mention Waves because this coin has the same platform as Ethereum. Although the price is still cheap and more expensive ETH, but I am sure that one day Waves will become a competitor Ethereum.

I think that NEO is the second altcoin on the market after Ethereum. Neo is known as “Chinese Ethereum ”. And I understand why. This cryptocurrency has really improved technology and strong team of developers.

Well, there's a lots of competitors in terms of platform, I've heard waves also offer this and stratis, but like what you have noticed NEO is really making
some great movement and allowing investors being attracted to this current rise, Chinese traders and investors will create hypes each time they support

Ethereum is none other than best coin among altcoins and this is why it has a large market competition. Many other developing coins are having in a good competition with altcoin. Ethereum is even competing for being the best coin among all present crypto currencies.

ADA and NEO are pretty much Ethereum's ONLY real competitors right now. There is definitely room for all three in the cryptosphere, but I do believe that each of these will exceed $1000 by 2019, certainly NEO, Cardano may lag behind slightly. Invest in both, you wont regret it. Also NEO has a bunch of airdrops and ICOs surrounding its hype, might want to invest in the most promising of these also.

I think LTC and NEO are actively creating strong competition this year. However, do not forget the ripple. Because the ripple itself has generated significant and unexpected growth in 2017 to become the most potent coin of 2017. Perhaps unexpectedly will be repeated this year with another value.

If to read the thread as whole, can be noticed that all the main competitors of ETH have already been named. There are such projects as NEO, ICX, ADA, Waves, WanChain, Zilliqa. I don't really understand EOS as huge plans were announced, but while there are only words, nobody has still seen the mainnet. I would like to highlight Nucleus Vision and Fusion among the latest promising projects

I think NEO, Stratis, and Waves are the most significant competitors. These are serious projects which will fight for the place ETH.

Waves and Neo are biggest competitiors of eth for now, but in future i think EOS will join this party and maybe dogetherium.

Cardano though in general ridiculously to hear when they say that Cardano is a blockchain 3.0 or as there, with its that the number of transactions per second. I do a big rate on eoc, there precisely the competitor to air will be.

yes, NEO is one of soon to become a big competitor of eth in the future. although its not have a huge value as of now, but the demand of NEO is rapidly increasing. meaning this two altcoins may change that world of crypto in terms of smart contracts competes.

i am sure NEO coin is very strong Competitor and we know NEO allows smart contract creation similar to ethereum. NEO coin is one of the most profitable coin.many upcoming coins use NEO platform that’s why NEO  price increase very rapidly. in 2017 NEO  price was only $8 and today it's price is almost $ 80.this is really huge jump . and we know NEO is chinese version of ETH so obviously we earn huge profit in near future.

I do not think that ETH has competitors among alt coins, but there are some good coins f.ex. Litecoin.

I think ETH is the best coin for the number of users and services (like smart contract) it offers and i don't think that will change in the future

Yeah you are right. Ethereum biggest competitor is NEO as of now because it is also using smart contract and some token using neo's smart contract.
but take a look also an universa wait for it to boom and the competition of this 3 begun.

We can not of certainty tell of ethereum platform competitors! All we hear about all the time is future looking statement from the so called competitors. None f this 'competitors have successfully built a platform that can render ethereum obsolete yet, they only makes promises continually.

Aside from bitcoin there are also other altcoins that can be a rival of ethereum just like those altcoins that is also a top ranking coins in coinmarketcap , for example NEO, XRP, TRX, and many other altcoins.

Ethereum will need to be wary of Neo, Cardano, EOS especially whilst keeping an eye on blockchain 3.0 project such as Arcblock on the way

Waves should have been next but I really dont know what is holding it back or maybe there is not much popularity.

Cheap transaction fees and also with their exchange already built it wont be a problem anymore.
I heard Neo but havent tried to read more.
While with Waves I already tested it and it is no different with ETH or maybr better.

I think it looks like litecoin is going to be an ETH rival, because this coin can be regarded as an alternative to Bitcoin. In addition litecoin coins have advantages that can be used as currency, mined and also transacted for various goods and services.

Do we need to say it? It was already knew by all of people in cryptocurrency that bitcoin is the biggest competitors of ETH. Why? Because bitcoin and ethereum are always being compared by people. Through their popularity, blockchain technology and etc.

Ethereum is one of the main currency and which is used in most smart contracts, so it will continue to be one of the most popular crypto currencies for a long time.

NEO!

For me NEO is the direct competitor of ETH, previously most of all ICOs are using ETH Blockchain, which sometimes the blockchain clogged and requires higher Gas Fee, but today NEO is a good alternative and using as a blockchain in their ICO. as NEO blockchain is super fast and upon holding these you can get a GAS Coin, thats why NEO will be a great challenge for ETH today and in the coming years to come.

Waves and NEO are today's competitors for the Ethereum regarding a long-term investment, I bought Ether and NEO and I think to keep at least a year.

To be honest, I definitely think that Ethereum's biggest competitors are NEO and WAVES platform. I would also consider NEM to be a threat to Ethereum. I have never tried the NEO platform yet, only the Ethereum and Waves platform. I'm not even surprised that NEO surged itself in the CMC rankings, because it has great potential.

As for Waves, they have their own trading platform (DEX and BETA) where I trade YOLO Coin and other Waves-based tokens. As for NEM, I do have a NANO wallet where I am still testing them for good.

What are peoples general opinion of NEM? We are creating a DAPP and NEM seems to have a really bright future and on paper is far superior to ETH. Do you think NEM is a good fit for a DAPP?

ETH have known for being the second cryptocurrency next to bitcoin. It's popularity with its smart contracts attract other ICOs to make their own currency using the ERC-20 token standard of ETH's blockchain. Since i got here and have joined some campaign, i have seen another ICOs who are using NEO and WAVES platforms which i think they are one of the major competitors of ETH today.

The thing that distinguishes Ethereum from Bitcoin is the application of Smart Contract, which allows you to program transactions, before you do it.

As for me Stellar is a very good coin, which in the relatively near future is able to compete with Ethereum well for now these are different weight categories.

I think that Ripple should not forget, this is a quite stable currency which will show may not be a big increase in the price, but now you can buy it because Ripple will go to the pamp in the near future

I think that NEO is really a worthy rival to the ETH in a long-term investment, but I still think Ethereum is the favorite.

EOS seems pretty much to me to be the biggest competitor of Ethereum. On the other hand, it had some huge gainings in the past few months.

Though ripple has a big marketcap, there are much difference between them, ETH is a token distribution platform that almost all the ICO tokens are released on this platform, what about ripple network?

That would be NEO as the chinese ethereum,it is indeed the upgraded version of ethereum's blockchain that is why it is the most biggest competitor of ethereum.NEO and ethereum both offfers smartcontracts and decentralized applications that is why they are very similar to each other but neo has more advance technology than ethereum.

I think a lot of coin is the comparison of ETH and many of these coin options are all you can determine and pick up the coins that you will invest in the future even though the price competition is getting tighter

Monero - despite the fact that Ether is best altcoin, Monero has better chance again. Why? Because of anonimity. Just look statistics of bitmixer of one year mixing, as owner claimed in one interview, they mixed 1 million bitcoin. So I believe you understand potential sources of those coins. This is the only way Monero or any altcoin can be serious competitor for eth.

Of course, the main competitor and rival is bitcoin. But there was a time when the ripple overtook our favorite ETH, it can also be considered a competitor.

I also think that Ethereum is the greatest currency, however, I suppose its main rival is NEO. Many Asians support it, and they are very serious investors. Cardano (ADA) can also compete with ETH and NEO.

Bitcoin is the biggest competitor of ETH because most of people earning ETH because of bitcoin, to buy bitcoin and the price of ETH follow the price of BTC.

Most users have mentioned the same thing, with the growth happening around different altcoins it is clear that cardano and neo has got the potential to give a hard fight back competing to ethereum. Possibly growth can be experienced, but this won't cause a overcome of ethereum.

I think eos and Ada are probably more than eth, but I'm not optimistic about neo, because the technology of neo is not very good, so neo has no such potential.

ETH gained the popularity due to ICO's under ERC20. This could be the good reason why people will tend to pick ETH more than any other which will almost be the same as it.

I agree with major responses here, NEO is one of the challenger. forget about Lisk and other altcoins previously i used to think Lisk as a huge contestant but now seeing the organisation i fear.

NEO is probably the main one at the moment, and also the one most likely to grow substantially this year.
NEM (XEM) is another popular competitor with a big update this year.
There are plenty of others which are quite new and as yet unproven, top of which is Cardano.

Projects suppoted ICO's and token creation are not only ETH, EOS and NEO, they all need creator to do programming work, which is complicated for normal users. And the transaction speed is longer than 3s.

every altcoins are competitor of eth.
all coins circulating in the market are all altcoins, that's why they are all considered as competitors of ETH.

new altcoin is launched almost all the time and they offer interesting projects so i think all altcoin become competitors in this business and eth should remain nice to remain a favorite altcoin
