Title: I Am Giving Away 5 Bitcoins Post by: tristan_luther on September 27, 2013, 02:08:12 AM I am giving away 5 bitcoins as a reward in return for getting 13 real-world businesses to start accepting bitcoin payments.
In order to receive the reward, you must prove that you have convinced and helped a real business with a physical presence (not online-only businesses) start accepting bitcoin payments for in-person transactions. Its bitcoin acceptance policy must then be advertised at the physical location and on the internet. This may not be a business that previously accepted bitcoins. The minimum business size is approximately 3,000 USD monthly revenue or 4 employees (possible exceptions). Proof should be provided in this thread so that members of the bitcoin community can judge the validity of claims. 5 bitcoins will be distributed at the end of October as follows: the reward for the largest business will be 1 bitcoin, 0.5 bitcoins for the next 4 largest, and 0.25 bitcoins for the next 8. Ad payments count, but donations do not. Given that they're always doing fund drives and all. Title: Re: I Am Giving Away 5 Bitcoins Post by: victorhing on September 27, 2013, 05:13:20 PM That's very generous of you and thank you for doing this.
I'm in the midst of convincing a couple of brick and mortar businesses to accept Bitcoins. However, they are about half the requirements (around USD$1500 revenue + 1-2 employees). Would you consider to reduce the requirements (and rightfully with lower reward)? This bounty won't achieve what you want to achieve.
Title: Re: I Am Giving Away 5 Bitcoins Post by: Singlebyte on September 27, 2013, 08:24:00 PM These gimmick promotions pop up all the time with no one ever receiving the bounty. I agree though, would be nice if the btc was in escrow to legitimize the offer. Be prepared for a commercial at the beginning. http://video.foxnews.com/v/2701600286001/credit-card-firm-cuts-off-gun-store-for-selling-guns/ Title: Re: I Am Giving Away 5 Bitcoins Post by: tristan_luther on September 29, 2013, 01:42:27 AM These gimmick promotions pop up all the time with no one ever receiving the bounty. I do not have anything to gain personally from this, so I don't see what the problem is. In any case, I am not opposed to the idea of putting the funds in escrow, but I really don't want to put in the time and effort to figure out how to do that. If someone can set this up and convince me that the escrow service is legitimate, I will do as you suggest. Although I was kind of looking forward to sending the funds to the winners myself... Being opposed to government coercion by threat of violence, as most bitcoin supporters are, and loving instruments of death seems hypocritical to me. But I suppose my personal opinion on this issue should not govern this contest. Will you be servicing then these businesses as a payment processor? 2. If yes, are those BTC 5 a remuneration for bringing you the clients? I am absolutely doing this solely in my own self-interest. The more ways bitcoins can be exchanged for real-world goods and services, the more the valuable my bitcoins will become. The 5 BTC are remuneration for helping the value of my bitcoins increase. But I am not in the payment processing business. Payment processors are very important in making it easier and more appealing for businesses to accept bitcoins, so I hope that they will innovate and expand, and that more of them will enter the arena. Title: Re: I Am Giving Away 5 Bitcoins Post by: Tuxavant on October 02, 2013, 12:44:04 PM My business is promoting Bitcoin to local merchants. The website directory is just one of the incentives to get them to be interested. All the businesses listed accept bitcoin in some manner. Either directly for goods and services, or they are experimenting with receiving bitcoin tips only. If they are agreeable to try bitcoin, then they get listed. If I list them and they stop accepting Bitcoin, then they are delisted. There are two guys actively pursuing new merchants for BIV, myself and "Brett".
The events are called Bitcoin Lunch Mobs and happen every Wednesday. About 60 of us communicate through a distro list to find more local merchants that might be interested, discuss latest news and trends, and coordinate where the next lunch mob will be. Between 8 and 12 show up each week to support the businesses that are toying with the idea. Now that my briefcase is operational, I'll be spending weekend mornings at the local bagel shop letting people know they can use their pocket change to buy my bitcoins and spend them right there on their bagels. I've also done several podcasts promoting Bitcoins to the tech community in Las Vegas. https://twitter.com/DowntownPodcast/status/385154829464911873 (Bitcoin fun starts at two minutes) Last week, I offered $100 of my own money to be divided up equally to anyone that shows up next week that has a bitcoin wallet installed on their phone. This happens tomorrow night. Title: Re: I Am Giving Away 5 Bitcoins Post by: tristan_luther on October 02, 2013, 01:07:58 PM My business is promoting Bitcoin to local merchants.
