As far as I know, bitcoin is not yet ban in India and also not yet accepted. So they are still in the gray area as far as bitcoin and crypto is concern.

But personally, I think they will put regulations on cryptos. So it the future India would have to pay taxes specially if you convert your bitcoin to rupees.

There are also news that 2 trading exchanges in India will cease or suspend is trading because of a heavy pressure from the government.

Actually the ones banning these governments are the bankers, because they are threatened by the loss of customers, because investors will switch to crypto investment because in crypto the absolute advantage is taken by ourselves, and the government that understands about crypto will always support, because for the sake of economic progress its people.

No,nothing along the lines of a ban is either in the making nor has it occured yet. I think you're confusing regulatory action and banning something, as India is getting stricter and stricter with the regulations that they're imposing on bitcoin. For more info, I'd check here - https://techcrunch.com/2018/02/03/psa-no-india-hasnt-banned-bitcoin-but-its-still-talking-tough-on-crypto/

There is not any ban on Cryptocurrencies in India as of now. The Finance Minister said in his statement that Bitcoin is not a legal tender, but didn't call it illegal. The government welcomes blockchain technology in its payment gateway systems.
You do have to pay taxes on the profits you earn through Cryptos. It attracts a tax of 30%

What I read and what I understood from the budget document says tat they are not going to ban the bitcoin from India. It is just been declared that all the crypto currency are illegal tender and is responsibility of individual who is using it.

The taxes is thing which we should pay to the government willingly and if you don't pay any taxes if you are from the high tax payer list then obviously they will catch you and will cease your bitcoin in the first place. So its better to go and pay the taxes for your online earnings. Its the best move and also good thing for your credibility.

I do live in India and untill now i have not yet heard any such news. Perhaps the Indian government may apply some new rules and regulations to the cryptocurrencies but I don't think they can ban bitcoins. Even some days ago we had a seminar on cryptocurrencies in my city so hopefully the government has no intention to ban the cryptos and we all can be safe here. I am waiting for that day when each government from each respected nations legalises bitcoins and each other cryptocurrency.

No,Bitcoin will not be banned in India because already there are some steps taken by the Indian government tp regulate the bitcoin usage in their county by linking their National ID card to the exchanges.
Do we have to Pay taxes to Indian Govt. For keeping Cryptos
No we don't have to pay any taxes to any governments for keeping the crypto currencies only we have to pay the taxes while buying and selling the crypto currencies.

Please do not spread any rumor about bitcoin situation in India. Your title of the thread is very misleading, you forget to add a question mark there as you have no idea about this. Now coming back to your question, no one is a astrologer here and thus cannot predict if bitcoin will be banned in India in future or not. At of today, there is no ban and a lot of people are buying and selling bitcoins in India. I am seeing that the Indian exchanges are adding more coins and this means that they are expecting crytpo to grow in Indian only.

India has its largest population and most people here just live a simple life.In accordance with being involved with bitcoin people here were not as updated on this latest trend of currency.I have seen some reasons behind it in banning bitcoin maybe they won't let people educate about cryptocurrency and government also wont let people  to be involved in crypto business.

I still see some ICO born from India, and unfortunately I started to doubt their project. They make ICO easily just to earn money and this is bad.
This may be the reason why India forbids crypto when in the future this technology will be a good solution.

India's Ministry of Finance said it did not consider the virtual currency a tool of legal transactions. The authorities also mentioned that they would restrict individuals or institutions that make payments using virtual currency. "The government will not yet impose penalties for users of virtual currency, it will only limit and disable access to the use of cryptocurrences as a means of payment," said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley . However, Arun promised to adopt and develop the blockchain technology system used by the virtual currency, for use in the national financial system.

Announcement of the ban on this transaction in India makes this virtual currency exchange rate chaotic. Because the policy taken by the government is beyond the prediction of the observers. People who have a virtual currency are predicted to soon withdraw their virtual money before its value continues to fall. Not long after the announcement of the ban, Bitcoin's sales jumped by 1.5-fold. In one day, the price has dropped 10 percent. Prior to the announcement, the Government of India had given some warnings about economic, financial, legal operations, consumer protection and security-related risks from virtual currencies such as bitcoin.

Countries will ban everything that could harm their governmental budgets...but while doing so have their hands wrist deep in the same projects they have banned, but in affiliate countries. China having offices in the US in order to market their countries tourism spots, and homemade products on YouTube is a great example.

India does not even suspect that it only makes itself worse by its prohibitions! After so much time, bitcoin does not feel lonely! a lot of countries and people have completely opened their doors to the entire crypto world! those countries that continue to resist the development of the crypto world will then greatly regret!

no crypto taxes in india, but india bans crypto. and RBI bans crypto transactions to minimize criminal and fraud. whereas electricity in India is very cheap and good to be a mining place.

in the end, many bitcoin mining companies, worried that the RBI regulations would stop its activities

I see in India there is no significant ban on bitcoin, there were also a few months ago a small part of his government gave the rules to be wise in using bitcoin and I think it still makes sense. the project activists actually grew up a lot from India it shows that there is no legitimate ban for people against bitcoin.

The Government of India will only undertake to reduce the use of these crypto assets in the funding of illegal activities or part of the payment system. Nevertheless, the Indian government is interested in the potential of blockchain, the technology that supports the virtual currency. India will not tire bitcoin and will embrace technology blockhain.

I think it is difficult to trade in India because the laws are always changing and your assets can be seized by the authorities without argument. It is better to invest in foreign exchanges or using privacy based p2p trading apps like BISQ.

Hard to say because the rules are always changing and they just do it without too much discussions. It shouldn't matter if there is a ban, if you still want to invest in crypto currencies then use BISQ to trade privacy coins, no-one will know and you can still trade

Even before I already heard about this country that poverty  is the main reasons why India has become one of the poorest country around the world.I have seen some reasons behind it in banning bitcoin maybe they won't let people educate about cryptocurrency.More and more people adopt it and if times comes that cryptocurrency would spread around the globe the government has no more source of income in an entire country.

India is one country that has good economic development in the world today, the economic growth of this country can be said to be very good compared to other developed countries. If bitcoin is indeed in the tire then this is a disadvantage, because as we all know that India has a large population. If the tire then bitcoin will lose many users, this is a loss and hopefully there is a way out so bitcoin can finally be legally accepted in India. The active role of Indian society will determine the future of bitcoin in the country.

Theoretically, there is no ban (yet) on cryptocurrencies in India. RBI is going against it but i have e.g. an account on a private Indian bank and i can still buy on the Indian exchanges.
Off course, India is India, even importing gold has been illegal and they hate the idea of money that can flow out the country in any form so the reasoning is not wrong but for now, there is no real ban, more a practical difficulty.

no it is not. there has been no bans anywhere in the world for a very long time now. there has been small prohibitions to certain banks not people using bitcoin and cryptos.

in other words they have not yet regulated bitcoin but it is still legal to invest in bitcoin and using it.

Well, it is true that government is not much impressed with the usage of cryptocurrencies but I don't think that government will bring any law to ban cryptocurrencies and even if the RBI has instructed banks to stop giving services to the exchanges involved in the cryptocurrencies trade, we are still able to use/trade cryptocurrencies without any issues even using the banking channels without breaking any law so it is not banned at all.

There has also been a lot of chatter in regards to how there is also a plan in place to truly crack down and ban completely the cryptocurrency and bitcoin so that their country would be rid of it. All this is due to some outstanding issues about this prohibition, which is due to the perceived risks or ban imposed by the bank's management, since before it was banned there were several companies providing Bitcoin services in this Indian State, such as BTCXIndia, KYC, and AML, but, for reasons that are not mentioned with certainty and clearly the State of India began to ban the use of Bitcoin with the cessation of cooperation between banks with service providers Bitcoin.

At the time being it was just news, government giving a signal to banks to monitor Alt coins to prepare some homework, might possible in the future government regulate digital currency so it will be easy for banks at that time.

Secondly in the bitcoin or altcoins trade there is chance of huge profit & loss, government warns all banks & user of altcoins by banning to avoid huge losses.

The first option Local bitcoins is ok but it will affect the crypto users how means if they don't have other options to sell there cryptocurrency and only one option left then automatically the buyers will decrease the value it's common in any business. when demand increases people start to use that advantage.

Second option PayPal. i think PayPal will not support any exchanges because cryptocurrency is the biggest enemy for PayPal in the market.

India will miss out if the parliament succeeds in banning cryptocurrency and bitcoin. Very wrong of them to do this at a time when the rest of the world is considering its adoption

Furthermore, we must first understand the limits given by the government regarding the use of bitcoin in which aspect. Since most governments only forbid bitcoin to be used as a means of payment, that means bitcoin can still be used as an investment tool or commodity.

Already 2 months over only one month left don't know what action Indian governament is going to take against Bitcoin users and Exchanging sites. They clearly announced in parliament that they will not support for cryptocurrency but they don't know how to stop crypto users in their country so they took this decision.

Now the big question is after completion of 3 months how people can exchange crypto to fiat currency in India? any solution?

Following solutions are possible:

1) You will have to use a website like local bitcoin and make a deal in cash locally.

2) Exchanges will come with option like PayPal payment.
Even localbitcoins also becomes hard to use if the governments ban crypto currencies in their country and all the bank accounts will be watched carefully so if a trader sending money often to the random bank accounts then surely he will get caught. So local transaction si the only possible way for trading and it becomes very tough to make every transactions locally. But we can still access the exchanges by using TOR so what they can do?

It's important to note that the RBI is the one that put up the restrictions regarding regulated banks not being able to trade with essentially any crypto exchanges, or businesses that accept crypto. That is not a "bitcoin ban". The RBI has no power to prosecute individuals or businesses for using bitcoin. But they do have the power to unlicense banks if they don't comply.

You won't get taxed for keeping bitcoin, but there are rumours currently circulating about India trying to implement a 18% VAT on bitcoin.

Essentially, they are regarding bitcoin as a good. And that may result in worse tax rates for traders, in the long run. But this isn't yet in place.

It is very impossible for bitcoin to be banned on india, the indian government knows the power of blockchain technology and bitcoin itself as their economy starts to get well when bitcoin entered their country. Maybe its just the Indian government did not approve the use of bitcoin as a main mode of payment for some transaction and does not mean to be prohibited on their country.

The status of cryptocurrencies still remaining a mystery in India. Actually it's neither legal nor illegal at the moment. Recently Reserve Bank of India had made a statement to banks to stop all crypto related transactions. As a result many are facing issues on converting these to Fiat now. An appeal was made against this whose final hearing is scheduled in July. Possibilities of a complete ban exists. But my opinion is it may allow crypto transactions under strict surveillance. Also I have seen some random articles mentioning taxation is coming for cryptocurrencies, which means it ll be legalized. Can't rely much on these news anyway. We should wait out few more months for an official statement I guess.

He said: "The government does not recognize crypto as a legal coin and will take all measures to eliminate the use of this crypto asset in funding unauthorized activities or as part of the payment system".

But there are some reasons to ban bitcoin.India has banned this bitcoin, especially the bankers who have banned the movement of Bitcoin in India, not accepting its claim that India does not support Bitcoin banks. But the crypto currency is coming out because those who make the currency are the only bitcoins and the government has bitten the bitcoins.Earlier, I hope all countries support Bitcoin.

I am not from india, but I know that is true there is a ban crypto there. Before the ban, Indian government has often issued a warnings to against crypto. It's been a month since the Indian central bank or Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has ordered banks and financial institutions under its control to stop providing crypto currency exchange services. The central bank has given watu to the bank for three months to end their relationship with crypto operators. However, since the decision, the volume of currency trading crypto in India even increased dramatically.
People rushed to take advantage of RBI's three-month window by more actively entering in market. If an investor enters this moment then the move allows the investor to convert the rupee into a crypto currency.

Actually the ones banning these governments are the bankers, because they are threatened by the loss of customers, because investors will switch to crypto investment because in crypto the absolute advantage is taken by ourselves, and the government that understands about crypto will always support, because for the sake of economic progress its people.

Agreed. This is not happening only for India and it is happening through out the world. Mostly banks and other financial institutions are using governments to ban crypto to make banks survive. There are so much of pressure from banks to governments on this and most of the banks are governed by government so they take these step of banning and considering the welfare and economic growth of people.

India Banned Bitcoin! Is It True?

I will share an article about the misconceptions with regards to this topic.

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding a recent decision by the Indian government. Various sources claim India has banned Bitcoin trading. That is not the case whatsoever. Instead, the RBI is ending its relationship between its own banks and any user or corporation dealing with cryptocurrencies. According to Unocoin, there isn’t much to be worried about. There is no ban on Bitcoin and no indication the RBI deems it an illegal currency. No funds have been frozen either, and exchange users can continue to use the platform as they always have. With no banks alerting Unocoin of any impending changes, business will resume as normal until stated otherwise.

The government in india is working on actively ragulating cryptocurrency. But we can't determine on how that will play in india. Therefore Bitcoin is not banned in the country.

I know there bitcoin is banned, Well I do not know electronic money in India but I know that there are many people who are joining their crypto even if the government issues a cyrptocurrency ban.
every country's view of the btc is different. let alone btc is currently experiencing such a high decline. causing many countries to think twice before taking further action. but my view is hopefully btc it will experience an increase again, although the current state of India has banned the development of btc.
Bitcoin will surely go up again in the future and that is for sure because a lot of big investors are now getting into bitcoin and since the price of bitcoin is dropping it makes its market even more attractive than before because of the opportunity that it shows to the possible investors or traders since they can make money because of the volatility.

It seems this information is helpful :)
But if it’s true India bans bitcoin/crypto and about the tax for bitcoin/crypto holders to keep save their bitcoin/crypto, it seems the Indian government is trying earn benefit from bitcoin holders.
Even I’ve never heard if the Chinese government which had banned ICOs is taxing the bitcoin/crypto holders.

if you want a more accurate answer you may want to ask in Indian board here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=89.0
Right, even I haven’t heard rumors that are so accurate about the government of India made the law and opposed the crypto in their country

You do have to pay taxes on the profits you earn through Cryptos. It attracts a tax of 30%
Wow that's a pretty huge amount figure for taxes up to 30%. It looks like the government of India will gain great tax profits from crypto if altcoin is used for payments in India. I think it’s good because the government of India accepts the cryptos without having to limit the cryptos in India.

This is the main headache in the crypto market! but I am sure that the world community is already fighting with this and will soon be able to resolve this issue! that's exactly after solving this problem, very many people and countries will open their doors to the crypto market!

My believe is that many of those countries will have a rethinking and rearrange their plans towards crypto as most of them are just against cryptocurrency just to save the economy and citizens of their nation. Besides crypto to me has caused more good than harm as it serves as employment opportunities in today's world.

No it's not banned in India, though there is no clear stand on this by Indian government. As far as I know you can still trade on indian exchanges and deposit/withdraw funds through those exchanges. Zebpay, Koinex, BitBnS are some of the good exchanges. Yes there's some restrictions applied to them by banks and there is court case filed by crypto space people against the reserve bank of India. Bitcoin is not as such banned in India. RBI has filed a case  against all the crypto exchanges due to which no bank is allowing these exchanges to convert crypto into rupees from 5th july.So that is why these exchanges are not able to provide any services until the next hearing which is on 18th or 20th of july. If the decision will come in the favour of these exchanges then they will start working again and if the decision will come in the favour of RBI then I don't think that people in India will be able to work with crypto as they will not be able to convert crypto into fiat and if the decison will be postponed to the next hearing then these exchanges will not be able to work until the decison. So lets wait for the next hearing.

India and all other countries have taken an initiative to include the field of (KYC) in cryptocurrency buying and selling wallets. Meaning everything you buy and sell can be tracked. So, there is no reason for india to ban cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin can be banned because they are just a cryptocurrency.

I'm a little bit relieved that it's just a rumor, I though it was legit. Just like the other author said, there's a lot of people who use bitcoin in India, and India is a rich country, it will be bad if India ban bitcoin, if they did, it's expected that there will be a lot of falls in the market. As far as I know you can still trade on the Indian stock exchange and deposit / withdraw funds through the exchange.Zebpay, Koinex,BitBnS are some good exchanges.Yes there are some restrictions imposed on them by banks and there are court cases filed by the crypto space people against Indian reserve banks. The Finance Minister said in a statement that bitcoin is not a legitimate means of payment, but does not call it illegal. The Government welcomes blockchain technology in its payment gateway system. You still see some ICOs born from India, and unfortunately you are starting to doubt their project.

India has always been an influential country in Southeast Asia and many neighboring countries adopt the same policies which India adopts. The policy decisions are always monitored closely and that's why I feel if RBI's (Reserve Bank of India) Bitcoin ban finds success, it will have a ripple effect as other countries will us this blueprint to implement cryptocurrency ban.

Hi mate, there are 2 different things here: banning cryptos, which is terrible wrong and paying taxes on profit, which is a normal thing.

However regularisation of cryptos is nit that bad because with no control, you cannot gather taxes. Taxes are necessary for country development. Without taxes, we haven't social system. Without social system, we have revolutions every few years, when poor people attacks rich. It's wrong, we have it for last 500 years. Wars, revolutions, because non social system and monarchy. If we want peace, goverments needs to give some shit to people: social system and something called democracy. People need to think, they have any impact.

Post by: BITSSA : BITCOIN EXCHANGE on September 14, 2018, 08:27:31 AM
We at bitssa.com (http://"https://www.bitss.com") believe that India will accept Bitcoins sooner or later. In his budget speech of 2018, Indian FM Arun Jaitley rightly pointed out that "Cryptocurrency is not a legal tender" which means it is not like any other regular fiat currency which can be used for buying or selling products and services.  However, this does not mean buying cryptocurrency is illegal in India. It is just a matter of time when the Indian Government will seriously consider the option of giving legal status to Bitcoin in India. There were some real fears on account of which the RBI came out with certain guidelines against the use of bitcoins such as terror-financing, black money laundering owing to the unregulated and decentralized character of bitcoins. But, terror-financing and money laundering also happen through Hawala-channel via cash. So, bitcoin is not solely responsible.  If we consider the volatile nature of Bitcoin, imagine the kind of remittances it will generate if it was made legal in India adding to the GDP of the country. Bitcoin is a byproduct of a revolutionary technology (blockchain) which is here to stay for good. There are speculations that in the coming years Cryptocurrency will replace cash money. And we hope that is soon to happen.

As much as I know. At present there is no restriction on Bitcoin in India. Apart from this, there is nothing in the statement of the Finance Minister that the bitcoin has been banned in India. But there is news that two trading exchanges have been seized in a single state. However, there is nothing to fear about it. There may be a small problem. Now our job is to take Bitcoin forward. Bitcoin is the International Virtual currency. So long as there are Bitcoin in the market, there is nothing to worry about. You have to look at the international market.

The Supreme court of India refused to abolish a ban laid by the Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) on making transactions via cryptocurrencies. This would censor cryptocurrencies in the country.

India is the third largest economy in Asia.

Bitcoin cannot be treated as currency under India’s existing law, It imposes that currency used as a medium of exchange must be made either from metal or exist in a physical form and needs to be stamped by the government said the RBI during the court hearing.

The court was headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, who said that the ban on banks and other financial institutions providing any services related to cryptocurrencies will remain implemented, Bloomberg reported. Initially, all institutions were given three months to cease such operations, effective from April 6th.

Countries such as Korea are taking steps to guarantee more procure crypto trading, while Malta had already ingrained itself as Europe’s blockchain and cryptocurrency hub which leaves India a step behind the digital platform.

According to the Director of DigiXhub ‘Nitin Jagtiani’ , One of the leading cryptocurrency and Blockchain solutions provider based in Bangalore, believes India contributes a very significant share of volume for cryptocurrency trading and ban in cryptocurrencies will allow the government to plan and implement the required regulations and laws to have a secure environment for investors and traders. Other countries have also made such steps but later have created a regulated environment to allow cryptocurrency business to safeguard the investors and traders.

The Indian government says that they do not consider crypto as a legitimate payment instrument and will try to remove coin-based payments such as bitcoin. India's commitment to end the use of BTC and other cryptocurrency in what it says is India's struggle against money laundering and terrorism financing.
The government does not recognize crypto as a legal coin and will take all steps to eliminate the use of crypto assets in financing illegal activities or as part of a payment system.
