Personally I wouldn't care about an escrow when using a mixer, their reputation is what counts for me. Bitmixcoin indeed continuously advertises "how safe they are" by reminding users about the escrow, but if they were to pull an exit scam, the escrow would run out in just a few hours.That's false security for users. Everything is very simple. On our opinion, [banned mixer] is the most sad example, since the mixer has been using the same miner fee for all outgoing transfers, the fee has been changed very rarely. It was enough to make one test mix and to see that all outgoing transactions from this mixer had a fixed miners fee, the last couple of months it was 0.0001001 BTC. Anyone who used this mixer and saved the "Letter of Guarantee" or keeps in mind the address where the money came from this mixer for the last couple of months, can see it. If you check logs of all bitcoin transactions before 2018.04.01 with such a service fee (actually it is pretty easy, and a lot of services provide the API), you can easily find all the transactions of this mixer, it will be possible to see all the addresses of their pool, to find out the turnover of the system and, of course, all the addresses of the clients, what is the worst. For example, other mixers (coinmixer.se, bitmix.biz, privcoin.io) have a huge vulnerability in the preset time delay, in other words, the lack of the ability to preset the time delay up to a minute. The algorithm of most mixers is simple: their system waits for a transfer, then waits for 1 to 3 confirmations and after, within 60-75 seconds, creates or executes a task for payment. This information is enough to track the address of the customer of the mixer even if the time delay is preset up to a few hours. On the example of coinmixer.se (this mixer used to wait for 3 confirmations): 1. Coinmixer had generated the address where you sent money. 2. 2018-01-01 13:00:00, your transaction to this mixer had got 3 confirmations, and the mixer created a task for payment subject to preset time delay. 3. If preset time delay was equal to 0 (0 hours) then money left the mixer to the recipient's address within 75 seconds (from 2018-01-01 13:00:00 until 2018-01-01 13:01:15). If preset time delay was equal to 1 hour, the funds left the mixer between 2018-01-01 14:00:00 and 2018-01-01 14:01:15 etc. The block is generated every 10 minutes on average, there are about 1,500 transactions, per hour in the block, that is approximately 9,000 transactions, but there are only few transactions suitable for the amount and time delay setting. This vulnerability has not been fixed yet. It is also possible to add several more patterns for searching and analysing transactions besides a time delay vulnerability, for example: - fixed service fee in a certain range - sending payments from 1 address - money from the mixer to the address of the client go from the addresses with a large balance, usually over 10 BTC - for example, [banned mixer] still uses a vulnerable system of mixing, particularly sending money from the addresses of its pool. But with just $200-300 it is possible to find out all the addresses of their pool and analyse all their transactions in the future... And these are not all patterns that you can use... not taking into account mixing algorithms, many of the similar mixers use third-party services such as cloudflare, load external scripts such as google analytics, etc., without thinking about the big brother... :) Before announcing our system of mixing we took into account all the vulnerabilities of our competitors and created a truly high-quality product. And you're assuming we did this specifically to increase our pool. Such assumptions are incorrect. The combined coins, you are talking about, are the combined small transactions that can no longer be used in the mixer for many reasons and mainly because of de-anonymization. Therefore, you, or anybody else, will never get back your coins from the combined coins. It is not possible since they are permanently removed from the pool and no longer participate in the mixing process. We consider this to be our merit. :) New module - ‘Reserves for mixing’ Not so long ago a New York blockchain startup ‘Chainalysis’ announced the launch of a real-time transaction analysis tool. A new tool called ‘Chainalysis KYT (https://blog.chainalysis.com/series-a/)’ (Know Your Transaction) allows real-time transaction analysis. In particular, the new functionality allows crypto-currency companies to find out instantly how reliable their counterparty is, and whether it operates with funds that were previously used in illegal financial transactions. In connection with this news, we decided to divide our reserves into three pools, each of which will fulfill its goals. The difference is in the initial history of coins accepted to the pool. Going to try again momentarily and report back with another edit. EDIT- Seems to work now even with VPN. I had the same settings enabled yesterday and the site must have been down because it timed out. I don't understand how to use the mixer though. The addresses don't have any ID's so how do I send my BTC through them to start mixing and send to another service? Also is there an approximate time frame on how long it's going to take before you configure the onion link so javascript can be disabled? Not willing to use the service with javascript enabled sorry. As for the VPN, unfortunately, we are not able to tell you if there are any restrictions on working with TOR from your VPN provider. The ability to choose pools is amazing. I expect the problem with "trusted" coins or so called trust score of address, to come to mainstream in next months/years. we are often asked about the BestMixer code. In particular, in one of the comments to the news about BestMixer on the Bitcoin.com contains a similar question. In this message we tried to give as much as possible detailed answer. Quote Why does Bestmixer give you an account/discount number? BestMixer code is a fundamental functionality; without such functionality any mixer can not be considered anonymous. Consider a simple example of the sequence of events without use of the BestMixer code for each subsequent use of Alpha and Beta pools: - today you sent 1 bitcoin to a mixer, getting back 1 anonymized bitcoin. - after a day, a week or a month you sent 1 more bitcoin and got back 1 bitcoin from the address you sent a coin to, when you mixed first time. It's not just about the integers, but also the parts of the total amount that you could get back from the old addresses when you use the service again. Would you be satisfied with the service in this case? Does this service provide anonymity? In our opinion, the answer is unambiguous - no. As you have already noticed, there is no users’ registration, logins, passwords, emails on our site - nothing that could be considered personal information or disconsider anyone. As you can see on the pages of the site, BestMixer code is used in two issues: - first of all, to avoid return of your old coins to you again - secondly, to provide the maximum discount on the use of the mixer to our loyal clients. Hence, BestMixer code is created to solve these two issues. How does it work inside the system? We have to mark transactions because without marking transactions, we would not understand whether it is your money or not when you repeat mixing; it would be technically impossible. It's either investors' money or our own reserves. And this pool is really going to be a big problem for startups like CHAINALYSIS:) and yes, its maintenance is really more expensive. We would like to underline that at the moment there is no tool in non-anonymous cryptocurrency networks that could anonymize coins, while not being a third party. All available methods of anonymization, such as CoinJoin, or Elliptic-curve Diffie–Hellman (ECDH), require the presence of a third party. Therefore, considering the specifics of the project and the unsettled position of various states and state bodies on the issue of coins anonymization, we prefer to be an unregistered company; there are many reasons for this. Fungibility means that every chip-sized transaction may be owned by anyone and there is no connection with previous transactions. I agree with most of your post, however, having unconfirmed inputs in a regular size does not prove they were mixed by chipmixer at all... I could easily use some of my unspent outputs in a transaction that generates new outputs with the exact same value as chipmixer's chips... It does not prove they were mixed by ChipMixer... but maybe they were? Lets say you are a blockchain analytist. You encounter ChipMixer-like output. You assume there is 50% probability it may be ChipMixer, so there is 50% chance no link between input and output. You have just gained some fungibility even when you do not use ChipMixer. Creating your own chips make blockchain analysis harder. We encourage everybody to do that. 2. The only thing I can think of is that someone gets his own coins back after they've been mixed again by someone else. The origin of such tainted coins obviously wouldn't relate directly back to the customer (aside from the fact they were in final receipt of the funds) but they could potentially be subject to scrutiny in certain instances (audits / investigations relating to criminal activities identified and traced by government institutions using blockchain analysis tools such as chainalysis). Before I get into your specific comments, I'd like to note that I greatly appreciate your work on Bitcoin privacy and I cannot imagine how it may feel to rule the market, then one day another wallet comes along with a service that does the same that you do, except in a way that it doesn't take possession over user's money, nor cryptographically able to deanonymize them, and on top of those, it even undercuts your service fees 10 times. If you would like to, please consider applying for a job at Wasabi, I am positive that we will be able to use your valuable expertise and experience somehow. The main problem of Wasabiwąllet is that EVERYONE knows the incoming address and EVERYONE knows the receiving addresses. Everyone may know the addresses, but not the identities, nor the links between the addresses. That is the point of mixing. Such companies as Chainalysis will not investigate who is who, and analyze transactions, amounts, etc. They will mark the incoming and receiving Wasabiwąllet addresses with a special flag — 'suspect'. The moment the global filter starts and you want to send your coins to the exchange, your transaction will be blocked. Your transactions are just as easy to identify with a blockchain analysis tool, so your blacklisting argument is null. Furthermore you are not even trying to use equal amounts, so your mixes can be deanonymize by subset-sum analysis, simply by looking at the incoming and outgoing amounts. Plus we are a legitimate company and if we would notice that any of the CoinJoin outputs get blacklisted, we would be ready to fight for a precedence to make sure it never happens in the future. Hi all others thanks too. Finally I think the point everyone is still missing was I did NOT know what the url was for checking my order. The youtube video does not show it too. I can say this much whether it falls on deaf ears or not - why doesn't bestmixer make the system idiot proof so that it's impossible for me to proceed WITHOUT downloading the guarantee? The police didn't just immediately shutdown their servers. They kept it running as a honeypot for a while to gather these logs. Bestmixer didn't necessarily hold them before (while they weren't runned by the police).They must have smelt a rat on realizing the gravity of the situation.
