Title: Crypto cards in day to day life and will they replace traditional ones.
Post by: tom14cat14 on March 21, 2018, 05:43:08 PM
Hey, guys, I've been in crypto for quite a long time already, but still have not obtained crypto card. My question is whether they operate the same way the traditional do or to what point should I pay attention to while choosing ones? Another question is if the rate e.g of BTC is converted to $ while payment with such crypto card or I can fix rate at any time while holding BTC on it?

am also interested in this question. As far as I know, VISA stopped cooperating with all the companies of crypto-currency cards. And honestly, I have not yet seen the finished product in the form of fully functioning crypto-currency cards. Can someone advise me such cards with the help of which I can purchase things and not to worry that they won't be supported one day?

Do not mislead people. VISA extended its restrictions to all countries except the United States.

Today, a lot of similar projects, as far as I know there is such a wonderful project as Denaro or a project like TenX or Centra, although I can not be sure that these projects will be able to make debit cards.

This is the problem of our crypto-currency world. It is full of scam projects. They collect big money by attracting investors with an excellent idea and do not realize it.

Yeah, but out of all these above mentioned I'd highlight BonPay as already existing product but as all others suffered with the latest VISA issue, as for the future when this issue will be resolved I will definitely order BonPay card. BTW there's diagrama showing there advantages over the other competitors.

Where I am none are available at the moment and I would like to see one appear in the near future. Also, with the bans from Mastercard and Visa is hard for those companies to provide debit cards.

I recall a few projects with cryptocurrency cards, but I really don't see any reason for one to use a card like that, since I don't understand what could one possibly do with it. I bet the usual ATMs don't recognize them and the same holds for banks or pretty much any place in real life where you could use some money. You have to search for places where you could exchange the money. Moreover, there's a limited amount of alts you can put on a card while on most of cards you can hold btc only.

You should pick one with the lowest fees, because they are mostly high. These cards are npt really popular, because most of them caanot be recognized by atms. So you still use your online bank, which makes a card useless. Maybe in your city there is an atm which accepts such cards.

By crypto card do you mean bitcoin based prepaid/debit card? Yeah they do operate the same way the traditional debit card works. As far as i know you will have to top up your card before you can use it. So the rates are the one used when you will be filling your card with fiat currency.

It is logical that need to have a balance on the card before start using it. Can you give an example of functioning cryptocurrency cards today?

It can be solved as soon as the G20 and different govts figure out the following :

1) How to tax crypto cards

2) how to control money moving outside their territories through crypto-cards

This will determine the existence of cards

In the short term, they can replace nothing, even regulatory aspect of most things related to crypto is not clear so it slow down current projects on this industry, also traditional ones can offer crypto cards.

Crypto cards are pre-paid cards. This means that at some point you convert some of your coins into fiat and add it to the fiat balance. While you have fiat balance, you can buy things. So you really have to replenish the fiat balance from time to time to make sure it doesn't get to 0.
The card providers have various ways to operate. Some allows you to keep crypto and fiat, some keep only fiat, so you replenish from your wallet.
What to be careful of? The fees. There are plenty of visible and hidden fees, you should be aware of them, from crypto conversion fee to fiat - fiat conversion (USD to EUR if you chose badly the card). And you have to be aware that most of them have quite bad conversion price (BTC to USD).
Some have gateway fee, or the deposit fee has a quite big minimum value.
All in all, like with all financial services, there are a lot of places they try to squeeze off you some more dollars.

All that the projects on crypto-currency cards offer, it is worthy to pay attention to it. For example, when converting from crypto currency to fiat, there will be no commissions. This is a great progress. I would prefer the use of such cards, but now there are no decent ones.

Thank you for such an informative explanation. That is, do you think that cryptocurrency cards have not yet reached the desired development in order to become a replacement for credit cards?

I think that there's plenty of room for improvement. From what I've seen, most users prefer to have a crypto wallet at the card provider and in many cases it's not possible.
With use of Segwit or even LN the price of transfer from the wallet at card provider to the exchange is 0 (also it can be done in many ways so the transfer may not even happen). This could allow, by user choice, the transfer from crypto to fiat to be done exactly at the time of purchase (if the fiat wallet doesn't have enough funds).

However, the first step is to see the crypto wallets back in use - since the wavecrest problems they just start to get back to business - and when all is good, then the competition will force them to improve.

What are the daily limits for withdrawing funds guys from such cards? Does it depend on card issuer or ATM? Just wonder how can someone go in cash big sums e.g. $100k?

Limits vary depending on what cryptoservice you choose. Usually daily limit is about $2,000.

what do you think about Coinsbank? Debit cards Coinsbank give users access to their funds on CoinsBank accounts. Cards can be used to withdraw money from almost any ATM throughout the world. CoinsBank cards also offer bonus points to cover expenses made with the card.

I was even advertising Coinsbank long years ago. They were back then a pretty solid business, but their fees were big for my standards.
But I've lost touch. I made a small search after your questions and it looks that they also used Wavecrest for their services.
And this means that even if I would know better about their cards at this time, probably it will change depending of the deal they'll make with another card company.

As you can see, even on their site, "cards are temporary unavailable", so all the card info they may show is outdated.

Usually the weekly limit is 8-10k dollars. But it depends on the project that produces the cards. I would not worry about limits, but about percentages when converting.

Hey, I see you are quite experienced in this question, what do you think about this project and its terms? Looking good to my mind, its available to make pre-order as well - https://bonpay.com/fees/

I am not really "experienced", but I've had 2 cards and was doing a lot of research while the cards have become unavailable.

I don't know Bonpay, but let's see, from what they show and what they don't:
* I don't see the card fees - from issuing to monthly/yearly management fee
* I don't see the fees for using the card at ATM (unless it's virtual?)
* I don't see the fees for converting from card currency to national currency
* I don't see the BTC/USD BTC/EUR conversion rates they use

So I can't tell how good the card is, they don't tell enough. Also pre-order means they don't have it yet.
For now I know only of one card provider that may worth working with for a normal user, all the others have issues (most have no cards available now) or too big fees.

I don't recommend using any crypto card in the near future. We can't know whether cards are issued for long or just for a couple of months. Many people lost money when visa blocked their cards in January. Unless regulation fixes all disagreements and different views on crypto future...

Absolutely! I think that cryptos will gain some number of users who need it. It reminds me fiat currencies like rupee or peso -people use them in their countries but rarely on the global scale, so those currencies got their audience.

Such cards convert crypto into fiat. So basically you pay in fiat. Even if the shop doesn't accept crypto, it will accept cryptocard.

Cryptocurrency debit cards are ahead of their time. They're not relevant right now. People continue to use Fiat in their daily lives and therefore it is not profitable to use such cards. A lot of costs for conversion and visa and MasterCard do not want to support their competitor. The relevance of these cards will be restored after the conditions for payments in bitcoins are created.

The fact is that the crypto currency is an innovative technology and practically no country in the world has properly paid attention to it. Over time, everything will change.

Hey, guys, quite good conversation we have here :) So as far as I understand the issuers now have problems because of VISA stopped cooperation with crypto cards, but anyways I am sure that the present situation will be sure and such cards will be available quite. Having gone through all the most popular crypto cards I decided to make pre-order of BonPay as to my mind it provides best services on this field. If you are also interested guys: https://bonpay.com/card/

Bonpay raised on ICO more than 20,000 eth. This amount is more than enough to implement its road map. What is the delivery time of the card?

Hey, I was BonPay ICO participant and as far as I remember BonPay had already existing project at that time. The key reason why they ran ICO was due to their wish to expanse world wide, it has been established and very well operating company for many years already.

It is stated that fees 'are extremely low', did you believe just on words or where can I find the exact fees charges of using BonPay card? To tell you the truth I haven't gone through WP yet.
That the main problem my friend, you should first read WP carefully before making any statements, do not you think that people just believe that there are low fees and do not check such info themselves?  :) BTW BonPay road map for Q2 is quite deep:
• API Implementation of card issuer for non-EU region
• Implementation of Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash
• Implementation and BETA-testing of BON Token/Coin use in ecosystem
• BETA Android + IOS (testing)
• Implementation of credit card processing
• Comprehensive testing and audits on security

Bonpay raised on ICO more than 20,000 eth. This amount is more than enough to implement its road map. What is the delivery time of the card?
Hey, I was BonPay ICO participant and as far as I remember BonPay had already existing project at that time. The key reason why they ran ICO was due to their wish to expanse world wide, it has been established and very well operating company for many years already.
The most interesting thing is that Bonpay has a finished product and it has distributed it all over the world except the USA. At the same time, VISA imposed restrictions on all projects of cryptocurrency cards, except the United States. Paradox.

Today I tried to study cryptocurrency cards and did not find really worthy projects or finished products that function around the world. Among them: CoinsBank, Cryptopsy, Wirex, Xapo, Shift, BitPay. We need a really new functioning product. Will Bonpay be like this?

Pay attention to the command. Many of its members are former employees of exchange services. Have extensive experience in the banking sector. I think it is possible that bonpay will become a new global payment system.

By the way, they have their own token, which will be used in the payment system. I am concerned about the fact that the price of the token fell 3 times compared to the price of ICO

Have you witnessed guys Monaco scam statement on collaboration with VISA? ;D I myself got deceived by them, so we should think twice before rely on someone's words. BonPay's team background indeed makes me think that it will become the leading power in crypto cards field.

Yeah, I got tricked by that Monaco scam, actually I think BonPay is undervalued on market as well taking into account how few coins there are in circulation supply and the present price, I personally increased my positions of it.

The most surprising thing is that after VISA announced THAT it was not cooperating with Monaco, binance added them to the  exchange.

I have read the user reviews Bonpay. Many of them are unhappy that they have not received their cards. But they do not take into account the fact that all cryptocurrency card projects are faced with serious problems. I think Bonpay needs to announce a solution to this problem in order to attract users.

By the way the price of a token has fallen to a small extent, given that many altcoins over the past 2 months fell in price by more than 10 times.

I think the problem with the token price will be solved as soon as BON is released on a good exchange. I think it's a matter of time.

Last year I was able to get a ShakePay card and it worked perfectly. On top of that, the people in charge of the project are very honest and helpful. Then came the WaveCrest and VISA problem, and the card was cancelled. After that I requested the AdvCash card that was also cancelled before getting into my mailbox.

Now I cannot find any working product. I am in the waitlist for Monaco, Tenx, Wirex, Centra and PayCent. No one seems to be able to deliver.

More than that it touched not only BonPay but other similar project as well, but I am pretty sure that CEO of BonPay does not just make air hot and will do their best to renew card support quite soon.

No no no no!
We don't have crypto card like visa or credit card from bank, but we do have like one but through online, they are easy access accounts where in they trade bitcoins easily but secured, most shops who accept crypto as payment uses it, like green address.

I have ordered Epayments card for now and gonna test it and wish to make pre-order of BonPay, there are so low fees in BonPay case and more than that there are some elite versions of cards available as well called 'black card'. :)

You can go into the telegram group bonpay and ask about it. They said that the problem had been solved and pre-order of cards had already been opened.

Which are those "many" European countries?
I know that UK was deployed, I know that Europe is next, but I've got neither new card, nor notification about it yet. And I live in Europe. Is there any news info I've missed?

Hmm, against the background of the fall of the crypto-currency market, fewer and fewer people believe in crypto currency. I hope this does not affect the demand for crypto-currency cards

I haven’t met with crypto cards yet. But I think that it will be very interesting for many men to use it. There are many ATMs, banks which works with cryptocurrencies. So it is quite reasonable thing that cards would be required.
