The current official client is way to beta and uncomfortable for average users. it doesn't even explain what the wallet.dat is nor does it tell the user that such a file exists.frostb1te: how much did you lose? I'm surprised that we're not seeing a continual evolution of the software on a regular basis like we do with other popular open source projects.

I'm not saying online wallets are any safer - but they are at least slightly safer. I can't believe that the official bitcoin client STILL does not support encryption! Yes, I know it is available in some beta build but really - shouldn't this be priority number one over anything else? The whole bitcoin thing blew up 2 months ago and still nada! As Maged pointed out - the lack of coders is probably the result of this. I'm just shocked - all this interest in Bitcoin and the client hardly gets updated with fixes or improvements?! Where are you coders hiding?
