Though it seems to be safe to use Bitcoin Scrypt on a computer running a BTC wallet, I advice you to always keep at least one back-up of your Bitcoin SHA256 wallet.dat before installing Bitcoin Scrypt.

Keeping a (encrypted) back-up of your wallets isn't a bad idea anyway. Are you prepared against harddrive crashes, lightning strikes, virusses and / or damaged wallets?

edit: since update 1.2 Bitcoin sCrypt no longer uses the "Bitcoin" roaming folder but the "Bitcoin-sCrypt" roaming folder, so safety is no longer an issue. If you don't see you Bitcoin sCrypt coins, move your wallet.dat to the new roaming folder. Always have back-ups for all your wallets.

Some words from the creator of Bitcoin Scrypt, "Omega6":

Quote
When Bitcoin was first created it was mined using just a cpu and only used as a mess about hacking currency but also just to see if we could do it in the first place.

Then can the greed came in, which moved it onto GPU's which is fair enough, just like the internet, it spread and became more or less decentralised and pretty much everyone in this gaming world has a GPU.

Now, with the birth of the ASIC, Bitcoin SHA is not decentralised even for a second and if you believe that, then maybe you shouldn't mine it or think long and hard about it.

ASIC's put the power into the hands of governments, the rich and the powerful (Manufactures).

The governments know what they are doing with Bitcoin, to suck you in and then slowly take control.

This is why I created Bitcoin Scrypt, a new Bitcoin currency that I will fully support and is free of ASIC control and once again as Bitcoin should be.

I want this to be the rebirth of Bitcoin once again BACK into the hands of the people.

Thank you for reading.

~BCX~

It's easy to find him. All the information is in the OP, you just have to know how to use "Google". It's a well known user with a good reputation on Bitcointalk.

this will be drama central.. it already started.
i asked about it on Crytsy chat and next thing you know i am being called names and threatened with a ban
then i had to listen to people make excuses why i had to defend myself for an hr after that..
i am soo utterly sick of dealing with you people that go there ..i'm done, your not the kind of people i want to associate with or talk to
its rarely useful and full of jerks who want to have a a little efight online.

Screw this dumb coin.. screw Cryptsy and the idiots that hang out there.
I can find better people to deal with else where, expecting to have a mature adult conversation is too of an high an expectation i guess.

ps: Magnet since you were in the middle of it when i asked you.. i'll ask again..
do you know why the dev didn't fix the folder issue ?
an update was already posted so.. wtf ?

and i really seriously hope there is at least 1 single solitary guy out there that is smart enough to understand why i just asked that if not wow.. just wow

and enjoy Cryptsy Chat (with out me) guys i am sick n tired enough of you And i'm not going back anymore.. your not worth the hassle sorry
i'm sure that will make a few you dead set on fighting and trolling me every time i go there happy as hell (drama central) ..congrats trolls ;)
which will carry over here i have no doubt.. might as well rename this coin "Drama Coin 2.0" ..just watch you'll see lol

A newbie on Cryptsy asked you if they could just rename the Bitcoin folder.
You then reacted as a douche, so the newbie asked you not to be such a douche.
Then you got mad, started using the "F" word and Mullick warned you for doing so.
You then said to Mullick the newbie started by asking you not to be a douche.
Mullick apologized when he discovered you didn't start it.
Then he made a joke about iGotSpots being nice to someone for 5$ and he wanted to give you that as a present.
You got "insulted" and left Cryptsy chat.

You may experience thinks different from how we experience it, it's just what happened.
Please don't cry about everything and everyone who doesn't like the way you react or handle things.
You seem to be the only one who always gets banned, warned or in a "fight" with other people.
Are all the other people causing it? Or is it just you?
Go take a look at your own actions, you will find out what causes these reactions.

And about the reasons for not changing the default roaming folder for Bitcoin Scrypt: ask the developer.

This is not a "complain about Cryptsy" topic, so please open your own topic about it and leave this one.

Spoetnik: @MaGNeT: so who is it ?
Mullick: @MaGNeT: lol i saw your flow tx messaging spam today
Mullick: @Spoetnik: difficulty is usually .75 when people leave its 1.5 now and way off target spacing :( im mining it now
Spoetnik: Magnet why would you go to soo much trouble posting all that on BCTalk ? are you the coin dev / starter or are you holding a shit load ? lol
MaGNeT: @Mullick: :D
MaGNeT: @Mullick: that cost me a lot of coins ;)
MaGNeT: @Spoetnik: I'm an MSX-Basic dev, lol.
Spoetnik: and why in gods name did the damn guy not do a super quick update t folder the folder issue ? seems like mass insanity
Spoetnik: @MaGNeT: ya uhh that sorta dodges what i asked but what ever lol
MaGNeT: @Spoetnik: I just copy-pasted the topic from Cryptocointalk and put in a warning like SaltyPistoon asked for. It's not the first "ANN" topic I started for a coin. Think of it what you like :)
Spoetnik: what like the folder fucks up ypu BTC wallet or watver and and updates was released and the dev didn;t bother to fix that ? lol oooook then
Spoetnik: seriously wtf lol
MaGNeT: @Spoetnik: BitcoinExpress already tested it: it does not damage your Bitcoin wallet. That's why it's allowed on Bitcointalk again.
Spoetnik: dude go read what you aid..
Spoetnik: *said
Spoetnik: IMPORTANT NOTE Installing Bitcoin Scrypt will not delete your SHA Bitcoin folder, it will just integrate with it, so when you run the SHA version, your Scrypt BTC will be unconfirmed and not usable and vice versa.
Spoetnik: uhhhhhhhhh
tucksmcgucks: @Spoetnik: Can I simply rename the SHA folder
Spoetnik: i can rename folders too.. so ?
tucksmcgucks: @Spoetnik: it was a question
Spoetnik: i can create new ones too :p

Mullick: @Spoetnik: Warned
Spoetnik: get teh fuck off my back jerks..
CheshCa: Jagrapolite adandoned his work?
tucksmcgucks: @Spoetnik: man I never meant to sound snotty, I was refering to the official pool's help text regarding renaming the real BTC folder in your/roaming before installing the BTC2 client, because the client will automatically merge with the reeal BTC folder
Spoetnik: you guys are god damn high on crack seriously wow
tucksmcgucks: "Installing the wallet: Since this is an EXACT copy of Bitcoin when you install the client it will attempt to use the existing bitcoin roaming (windows) folder. You're going to need to rename the Bitcoin SHA-256 roaming folder to something else to use the Bitcoin Scrypt client. BEWARE, this could destroy your wallet if you start mining Bitcoin Scrypt using the Bitcoin SHA-256 wallet.dat file.
Mullick: @Spoetnik: Calm down and ook forward to spots being nice to you for 1 full hour :)
Spoetnik: i am totally calm i was trying to ask Magnet about the coin what the hell is the big problem ? seriously ?
Spoetnik: that other guy can see clearlyi don;t know anything and i was asking questions.. so he starts asking me questions ? why would i know ? i am asking myself LOL
Mullick: well you dropped the f bomb twice

Spoetnik: please do tell what the rules are Mullick ;)
Mullick: well you said fuck you thats against the rules
Spoetnik: i was called a douche here..
Mullick: Did i see it?
Spoetnik: i never heard that was a rule dude
Spoetnik: i don;t apreciate being called names

This isn't anything close to Bitcoin except the stolen name. First of all the difficulty schedule is totally different, as well as the block solve times. It'd be interesting to see a REAL Bitcoin Scrypt chain where NOTHING is changed except SHA256 -> Scrypt. I'm sorry, but this isn't it.

That wouldn't really be interesting at all, and in fact would pretty much be an awful idea. Lots has changed since bitcoin was launched, and diff re-targets like that have been proven to be terrible for new coins time and again.

For SHA256 chains maybe. We're talking about Scrypt though and I think you're mistaking "terrible" difficulty schedules with alt chains that are terrible to begin with.

Thanks for the update :)

The first exchange to host this coin will make a lot of money.
I really like to lay my hands on a few more, traded a lot already with trusted members but don't like trading on the forums, too much of a risk.

New Bitcoin sCrypt client with changed roaming folder! It will no longer interfere with your Bitcoin folder!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5f19l5fnh8hdyzk/Bitcoin_Scrypt_Version_1.2.rar

- start the client, let it sync
- shutdown client
- copy or move your old Bitcoin sCrypt (BTC2) wallet.dat to the new Bitcoin-sCrypt folder.
- start client again, coins should now show up again!

I think it's ready for a real exchange now!

good to see the new version, but it is also possible to run the client with -datadir=c:\custom_data_dir to avoid this issue.

A new dev, Smokeasy, fixed the client and made the following changes:

1.  Fixed issue with blockchain download so now downloads entire blockchain from scratch.
2.  Changed the AppData directory so no more interference with Bitcoin SHA256 client or wallet.
3.  Added seednode to the code to resolve connectivity issues.
4.  Added checkpoints in the code to the 0, 11111, 33333, 55555 and 60000 blocks.
5.  Fixed gitian yml files so now gitian builds can get up and running with minimal debugging.
6.  Created gitian build instructions for Windows client.
7.  Provided his file checksum hashes for input and binary files built with gitian. (https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/2966-bitcoin-scrypt-v120-source-code-and-compile-instructions-for-linux-and-windows/)
8.  Enabled QR code generator, Windows Installer and daemon when doing the gitian build.
9.  Changed the logo to reflect Bitcoin sCrypt instead of Bitcoin 2.

Nice to see this coin is worth a lot.  Super profitable to mine right now, glad I have been.

Yeah, not too much volume tho. :) But it seems a good beginning for the coin.

Yeah. :) Just wait for it, when this coin goes up to a bigger exchange, it will explode. But I think it wont happen in the next few months.

Openex isnt a stable exchange like Cryptsy or BTC-e.BTC scrypt needs to be on a real exchange with real set price.Questions is will the community accept it after all this time?

See this getting some exposure. I mined it months ago and thinking about jumping back in. The Cryptosphere is much more open to allowing new ideals today.

Bitcoin Scrypt has all the things i care about when choosing a coin.

1. It's scrypt(decentralized - and devs and community understand the importance of this)
2. It has major brand recognition(good or bad publicity is good for holders)
3. A chance for ppl to get in early -just as the early adopters of btc did(at the cost of risk).
4. The dev is more than competent and didn't even have to think before responding to a question about how to handle Asics.(quote "The algo will be changed and it will be forever ASIC resisted")
5. A community that is growing at an unstoppable rate. I like the new simple logo
...

rename it. there is nothing useful for your coin in the future while using bitcoin's name.

maybe the thought behind the name is that you don´t have to reinvent the wheel.

there are so many coins with exotic and strange names....

i think the motives are easy comprehensible and the idea to keep it decentralized are well-conceived, too.

The original developer committed to change the algorithm if scrypt asics ever became available.  Discussion is already underway to do this for bitcoin scrypt, but the community will put it to a vote using their decentralized voting system.  If you want more info about this coin the main site for information is at https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/411-bitcoin-scrypt-btc/.  Thats where the community for this coin developed because it was censored here.

Why did both the pools I am mining stop finding blocks about an hour ago?

Edit: Must have just been the luck, broken-arrow just found one. Yay!

Edit Edit: Or hmmm it looks like difficulty just reset?

Difficulty is is very wild, it's no KGW ;)

why is this thread only 5 pages long? I am confused.

It was banned from Bitcointalk because in the first client the wallet.dat was located in the "bitcoin" folder. It didn't do harm but moderators were afraid it would.
Because it doesn't do any damage to the original Bitcoin wallet, the ban is lifted. And in the last updates, Bitcoin sCrypt got it's own roaming folder.

We moved over to Cryptocointalk when it was banned over here: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/411-bitcoin-scrypt-btc

But now we have topics on both forums :)

I have a feeling this thing is going to rocket to the moon once it gets on mintpal.

You can barely buy any amount in decent size. Anyone who kept the blockchain alive these past few months is going to cash out nicely.

agreed I was buying up yesterday, its only a fraction of what it can get to when listed on more popular exchanges.

What price are you all going to sell at, or is HODL the name of the game?

I personally never have a sell price, just hold til I see know further reason for a rise, with this plenty of upside yet and certainly wouldn't sell prior to being listed on a more popular exchange.

It'd be interesting to see a REAL Bitcoin Scrypt chain where NOTHING is changed except SHA256 -> Scrypt. I'm sorry, but this isn't it.

That wouldn't really be interesting at all, and in fact would pretty much be an awful idea. Lots has changed since bitcoin was launched, and diff re-targets like that have been proven to be terrible for new coins time and again.

this has been done.  the original CAT coin was an exact BTC clone only scrypt.  the multipools tore it apart.  huge spikes in difficulty to the point where it was going to take 2 weeks to solve a block.  it was forked 2 times at least to add KGW and faster retarget.  640 blocks is not possible anymore.  btc could not be released right now with its current specs its been proven.  this is not btc2 advertizing this as such is false.

Unlike MintCoin, Earthcoin, etc it's not highly promoted "to the moon" by a promotional/development team.
I think that's the strenght of Bitcoin sCrypt: almost everything comes from the growing strength of the community.

Bitcoin didn't have a developer after Satoshi left it. But it got picked up by a growing community.

Nothing beats a strong community.

rpcpassword=password
rpcallowip=localhost
rpcport=30200

Finally have wallet syncing. Just left it running overnight. Now trying to solo but get "json rpc call failed" also "operation timeout". Does this look correct? I have read not to use port 30200 since it is a test port but to use 30201.

rpcuser= user
rpcpassword= pass
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=30201
server=1

daemon=1

Mintpal is going to push this thing high up!
I'm going to HODL most of my coin. See where it goes.
I am loving the profit. A 1$ a coin is pretty good for just a few days.

I say it's quite possible to hit later today, if the market can get a little more momentum like it had the past few hours.
I'm betting for sure at least a dollar.

There are ASICs for sCrypt coming soon. Has Bitcoin-2 defense against them?
I see the only decision in ASICs problem - integrate dependency of time for generating coin. If there will be no difference between generating 1 coin on quick ASIC and slow CPU because of needed the same time - then it would be meaningless ASIC invention in principle.

This coin came out 3 months before Dogecoin, and several months before the great altcoin expansion.

It's now at $0.50-0.60/coin.
$2.7 million market cap.
Up ~185% in the last 24hrs.

Crazy!

Before you post :)

http://theotherbitcoin.com/democratizing-development-roadmap-decentralizing-bitcoin-scrypt-development

Quote
Decentralized Development – We now embark upon the final phase of our Decentralization Project by incorporating the third leg of the decentralization stool:  “decentralized development.”  By utilizing a decentralized proof-of-stake voting system we empower Bitcoin sCrypt stakeholders by democratizing development through Vanity Voting.  With that, below please find our proposed roadmap to decentralize development.

Decentralizing Development through Democratization

I have developed a proposed plan-of-action to transition Bitcoin sCrypt from a developer-driven project to a community-driven project.  I present this plan to the community for your feedback before we put this plan into action.

Proposed Roadmap

Housekeeping Votes
Vote on whether to keep current logo or hold logo contest
Vote on whether to keep current AppData directory or revert back to old directory
Vote on official currency code (i.e., BTCS, BTC, BTX, etc…)
Logo Contest Vote (if community desires, as per item 1.A)
Creation of Guiding Counsel or Foundation for Bitcoin sCrypt
Vote as to whether to create in first place
Vote as to formation or operating rules (i.e., top-down model? Anarchist-model?  None at all? Supermajority to implement/change?, etc…)
Vote on rules re voting
Elections for positions on guiding counsel /foundation
Direct votes on the incorporation of certain technical features to the client and/or protocol.
Vote on whether to change mining algo once scrypt asic miners enter scene en masse
Vote on whether to incorporate Zerocoin anonymity features once/if it’s released
Vote on whether to change the difficulty retarget algo to make it less volatile and/or more profit-pool switching resistant.
Votes on the inclusion of other features as they arise.
A few notes:

I wanted to begin with the housekeeping votes because I want the community to have a say in the issues that I unilaterally changed when I developed v.1.2.0.0.  The community should decide all development features, even those in the past.
The order for the remaining items will be up to the community, as my list is simply a proposal.
Certain votes, such as rules for formation/operation of foundation/counsel could be set up to require a super-majority (e.g., 60%, 66%, 75%) to change or implement.
As the Vanity Voting process grows, we are willing to add or change proposed voting items and would even consider meta-votes (e.g., votes on what to vote for next) if that’s what the community wants.
Votes could occur once every two-weeks, with votes announced on a Monday.  Voting deadlines could be scheduled for Fridays, with run-offs, if any, occurring on Sunday.
Again, like all things Bitcoin sCrypt, we want this to be a community-driven effort and we look forward to all of your feedback, comments and concerns regarding our plan to be the first cryptographic currency to decentralize development through democratization.

We would like to spend a couple of weeks fine-tuning this plan with the community before the actual voting process and we look forward to your thoughts.

Detailed explanation of Vanity Voting can be found here.

Instructions for Vanity Voting can be found here.

Vanity Voting Proof-of-Concept Example Referendum can be found here.

Vanity Voting Vote-Explorer can be found here.

*Special thanks to Artiface for developing the Voting block explorer.

It now hovers around 0.001 which isn't bad, it's a nice and a little controversial coin. I can see it rise to the top.

I think it will be in the range of LTC, maybe a bit higher.

BTC sCrypt has a 21M cap like Bitcoin, while LTC has a 84LTC cap.

We are at block 92,623 so only 4.6Million BTCs have been mined in 6 months.

I was thinking the same thing. I really like that algo. Not crazy about verts. To think that we can save on gpu electricity and have an asic defense, might be the holy protocol(im sure there is a down side with darkcoin -i really haven't researched it thoroughly).

-
I just sold half at 0.001 to lock in gains
gameplan-
I will sell the rest if it hits 0.0015
If it hits 0.0005 i will buy a half position

-nice simple strategy that changes on the fly-
As ppl deposits confirm on mintpal - we should see it sink

Hehe, lol, I was reading back some old topics about BTC and LTC recently and thought the same.
On a Dutch forum, I said "800Mhash/s will only give you 0.3 BTC a day" (2011, just after the crash) and it will never pay for your powerbill.
And in 2013, when LTC diff was shooting up I said something like that. Wish it was that low again  :o

Dont even bother. Pump and dump... I was gonna mine this but then the value tanked in half.

We just found our first block! Come and join us miner   :)
If someone looking for open pool since http://btc2.cryptominer.net/ is closed for new miners this one is open and works great.
It needs changes in automatic payout threshold and it tax.

I think that only crashing of btc2.cryptominer.net is stopping the progress. We need more stable pools!

Hi mate we have changed the threshold down to 5 BTC2. Let me know how that goes for you.

Cheers for the input :) Appreciate it.

You have to push for someone like overstock.com to take this coin and someone needs to take 20 BTC and buy up most of whats on crypto rush forcing a change in price this coin will die very soon if someone does not, I wish I could be the person to do so.

It wouldn't be dying if idiots didn't fall for all those stacks of low 1-10 sell orders unfortunately, this is why I hate Mintpal it doesn't have a real order book that shows you a full spread of asking prices, only the last few sell orders.

90% of older alts are well down in current market conditions, even at the lastest few hours lows btcs is still several times higher the it was just a few days ago, and good volumes.....hardly dying.

few hours or even days or weeks in trading doesn't make or break a coin.

are you new to trading? you do realize that BTCS is really volatile and just started trading on mintpal? extreme price fluctuations are to be expected.

BTCS was never dead. that btc2.cryptominer.net pool has been open since launch and anyone could have mined thousands of BTCS up until a few days ago.

I am only looking to find out what is unique about this coin and nobody can seem to give me a rational answer, the community isn't an answer, I mean is the coin asic resistant etc? also whilst I expect volatility especially early in trading, the lack of buy orders is quite staggering.

The community is not here because it was banned here.  There is a large community for this coin over at cryptocointalk, go take a look.  there is a whole dedicated forum not just 1 busy thread. The coin is dedicated to remaining asic resistant and the community is already planning a vote with its is decentralized voting system about changing the algorithm.

This coin will succeed because it has a HUGE network hash and a high diff already. It's currently at a 224 dif and network hash of 3,490,000,000 kh. That's higher than some of the established alts such as feathercoin/worldcoin/etc.

If there was nothing to be excited about, why would all these people be mining it?

If you look at the order books too, except for the occasional panic seller (or manipulator) people aren't exactly eager to hand over their coins, most are sales of just a few dozen coins at a time, a lot of hodlers. Where is this dump of hundreds of thousands of coins out in the wild? Nowhere to be seen.

good solid reasoning, that's what I was after, cheers chaps. This coin and HVC have good futures. this one if it turns out to be asic resistant given the fact the difficulty is so high already that it's hard to get. HVC because the difficulty is climbing rapidly, it has a innovative voting feature, is asic resistant and can be GPU mined using a shit load less power than normal GPU mining and cards run cool, no more than 50 degrees with the right settings. Looking good for both these coins considering Litecoin is so hard to mine and asics are gonna destroy its mineability by normal gpu soon enough :)

BTCS should be making an appearance on the Austin Global exchange very soon. No ETA as yet, but it appears that it may well be today as they have stated on their Twitter feed that 5 more alts will be added today.

https://twitter.com/AustinGlobalX

There isn't a massive amount of volume for the current alts that are available on the exchange,  maybe this will change for BTCS?

fair enough good arguements but what is it that makes this coin unique?

Decentralized democratization.
Unlike Bitcoin, Bitcoin sCrypt holders can vote about big decissions.

And we have a nice, growing community since september 2013 :)
Most of us are on Cryptocointalk because BTC sCrypt was banned on Bitcointalk during the first months.

I think it's refreshing to see a coin that doesn't rely on "pumping" developers.

High diff and no luck finding a block, happened yesterday too. Nothing wrong with the blockchain.
The diff algo is a bit too responsive, "2 block diff change". I think we need something like KGW.

Update: you see? They found blocks again  :)

This coin needs protection from asics miners... All alt coins without resistance will go down the drain, ltc might survive.

The reality we face. Many miners are eager to sell, so the natural supply/demand remains unbalanced for now, the price will remain low until they have dumped their supply for cheap. Once enough coins have been bought and sold that the unbalance evens out, the price will instead actively raise just as BTC one did.

Why? Isn't scypt asic just the next logical step. Won't be long before cheap 1mhs+ asics will be available. Less people mining = more people buying instead?

Now is a really great time to accumulate coins. Buying when everyone else is selling is often times one of the best ways to catch really great profits later on. Don't forget that this coin has a difficulty of 386 and over 4.1 GH of mining power.  That's more than feathercoin and worldcoin, two very established coins.

Anybody who sells this coin now is likely losing future profits. Just a thought.

Congrats everyone you let the coin die.  Good goin.  Way to pump and dump 92,000 onto crypto rush and another 20k on mintpal, this is the reason none of you will ever make it big like the early BTC adopters.  Absolutely pathetic. GG.

Lol, dead? Did you look at the hashrate and difficulty? Some traders dumped their coins, other bought them. That's how the market works.

Bitcoin sCrypt will have blockchain voting features, so big decissions will be made by the community, not by a small dev team like Bitcoin.

This coin needs protection from asics miners... All alt coins without resistance will go down the drain, ltc might survive.

Why? Isn't scypt asic just the next logical step. Won't be long before cheap 1mhs+ asics will be available. Less people mining = more people buying instead?

If that's the way you feel, I won't bother convincing you anything else.  :-*

For the same reason Litecoin was created to begin with. You are basically asking why scrypt coins was created beside bitcoin. A fairer distribution.

True.
And by "blockchain voting" we can vote for what algo we want for Bitcoin sCrypt, in a hardfork. Blockchain voting offers great possibilities.

For now, I like the low prices and slowly dump my other alts for more BCTs. I really regret I didn't buy more 10 days ago, at 0.000062 BTC.

Actually I still have my 30,000 BTCs and I'm buying up a bit more by dumping my other alts.

1 million at 0.001 BTC is not possible, only a few coins got traded at that price.

One of the main factors here is voting to change the algo if asics becomes an issue, something the likes of ltc is unlikely to do, and of course btc will never do.

At what blockcount are you?
Sometimes pools don't find a block and client says "it's out of sync" while it isn't.

There is a mirror block explorer at
http://blocks.btcs.pw

I really wish people would consider that one the main explorer instead of http://blocks.btc2.pw because it is more reliable .. the other one has an issue with boost that I have never fully resolved.

http://blocks.btc2.pw is back up.  If you ever notice it down, you can PM me and I'll fix it asap.

Abandoned? This is where the action is:
https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/411-bitcoin-scrypt-btc

:)

There's enough coming for it, like other diff algo, other algorithm, blockchain voting so community can vote on important changes to the coin, etc.

I hope the value will stay low a bit longer, I'm turning my mined altcoins into BTCs.

Hello BTCS devs, I just thought I would mention something.. I am a supporter of this coin, and hold a pretty decent bag, but I think one of the reasons the coin is being overlooked is due to the fact that the thread is hosted on the alternative forum. I understand why this was necessary, but it has put the coin community in a backwater.

I used to visit the thread often to get the days updates, but due to the way the forum is organised, you cannot easily find out the latest info. It's all over the place. It is such a hassle that even I have given up trying to search it out. I just don't bother anymore, and this coin means something financially to me...

On this site the latest updates are just right there on 1 page. In a minute you know what is happening. I have seen other people posting here thinking the coin is dead. The other thread is doing you a bigger disservice than you realise.

Even though it would be a hassle, and you might have emotional reasons not to make the switch, I think you should move the thread here. It's where everybody hangs out, whether you get that or not. The coin is going down the gurgler guys. Hiding it in a difficult to use backwater ain't going to help it much!

Just a thought... In case this has been overlooked.

Yes, cmon devs, the time for action is now. BTCS is critical right now as it's being delisted from MP.

Good time for a press release or something.

Update: Voting Client, Pool and Market Capitalization Sites

Community,

As promised, we wanted to give a quick update on progress on the Development side.  Specifically, updates about the voting client development, BTCS mining pool and coin market cap sites.

Voting Client - We have narrowed down our initial set of 11 programmers to 4 and are awaiting a final set of bid estimates from them.  We hope to have them in the coming day so we can make our selections and get completion date estimates to share with the community.  We plan on hiring 2 programmers to develop separate voting clients to test and will select the best of the two to fully integrate the website with the voting client service.  Again, we hope to be able to select this week and get timetables to everyone early next week.

Mining Pool - One of our community members has been working on setting up a new BTCS mining pool and anticipates having it fully operational shortly.  He's already set up an additional BTCS node (104.131.157.75), which I have added to the OP.  We will update when the pool is ready to go. h/t to Kinebudking.

Coin Market Capitalization Sites -  Another community member has begun reaching out to coin market capitalization sites (e.g., coinmarketcap.com) to have BTCS re-listed and they have begun doing so.  h/t to Madtomic.

Thanks to the community members who have started our push to have BTCS repeat the trajectory early this year when we first announced the decentralized development through vanity voting project and once we have the timetables to complete the voting client, we plan on putting together an organized push for BTCS.

Keep up the good work everyone.  More details to follow.

Good luck, I hope this is a stepping stone for you.

For only 0.001 BTC trade, I would be losing a lot to exchange fees and withdrawal fees.

I  will do it as last resort, but will prefer to trade directly with someone first.

So now that scrypt ASICs are widely available at cheap prices, shouldn't bitcoin scrypt change its algo? As the sole reason why it was created in the first place is to be ASIC resistant version of bitcoin, but it no longer is so this coin has lost its prime goal/purpose.

if you look better, Bitcoin-scrypt does not allow Network H / s above 300 mhs, since the difficulty would go through the roof. This form provides an opportunity for anyone with a CPU or GPU to mine.

www . multifaucet . tk / index.php?blockexplorer=BTCS
http://weminebtcs.com/index.php?page=statistics&action=pool

However as soon as the voting eleven client is completed

we'll decide whether to move over to full-POS, hybrid-POS or remain POW.

Ok so, if I fire a 300MH/s ASIC on my wallet or on a pool, filling whatever gap it is to the max allowed net hashrate, that means nobody else can join in mining since the network hashrate is at its allowed value?

Title: Re: [ANN] Bitcoin sCrypt | Where the community votes and decides!
Post by: Bigplayermaster on January 11, 2015, 12:27:50 AM
no maximum. Only that more than 300 MH/s hash difficulty rises rapidly reducing the blocks. Try connecting your ASIC 300 Mhs and you're in for a surprise :)
