Title: Satoshi Dice Tribute - Fast and Fierce Social Dice Gaming
Post by: SatoshiDICE_PR on October 31, 2013, 12:48:23 PM
*******************

Launch Status: ONLINE

*******************
Dear Beloved Bitcoin Community,

After much adieu, the Spirit of Satoshi would like to humbly announce her latest incarnation, Satoshi Dice Tribute (https://satoshidice.com).

She has watched with enthusiasm and pride as several other Dice operators released worthy and interesting games over the past several months – sites that innovated upon what Satoshi Dice had pioneered, and brought new value to BTC gaming community. The Spirit has not been idle. Today, she observes many of these advancements, and brings some more of her own to the community, in the quest for the perfect Dice game for us all to play while fiat crumbles around the world.

Satoshi Dice Tribute

Main Features

  • Beautiful new interface
  • Huge, instant payouts
  • Session-based
  • Bets are instant (they do not occur on the blockchain)
  • Zero-confirmation deposits
  • Comprehensive player statistics
  • Live social chat
  • Multi-language support
  • Provably fair, with user-defined client seed support
  • “Mood” system
  • Full API (have fun developers!)
  • Tribute system (details below)
  • 1% of gross earnings donated to Sean’s Outpost charity

What is Tribute?

Tribute brings social competition to Satoshi Dice. In real time, the three highest ranked players receive a piece of every bet placed by every other player. The ranking formula is confidential for now (and we may tweak it as we observe real use).

There are three Tribute positions:
  • King – Receives 0.1% of every bet placed by every player on the site
  • Lord – Receives 0.05%
  • Jester – Receives 0.02%

You’ll notice you have a rank as soon as you place a bet. Your rank determines whether you acquire a Tribute position. The top three players, in real time, achieve Tribute. Tribute holders can be knocked out at any moment, and rankings are entirely reset every day at midnight GMT (though the Tribute earned is kept forever).

What are “Moods”?

You will see references to “moods” in various places. The Spirit is not yet revealing details about what this is, but it will become increasingly important in the future.

How do the accounts work?

Satoshi Dice Tribute accounts are “session based.” When you first play, you’ll be asked to enter a Bitcoin address. This is the address your winnings will be sent to when you withdraw.

You’ll be given a Session Key – DO NOT LOSE THIS. The key is your password to access your session.

Sessions are perpetual; you can leave Bitcoins deposited in your session. You can also create a player name and track your career statistics.

For security, withdrawals of Bitcoins can only be sent to the Bitcoin address entered when the session was created. Funds are returned to the player’s BTC address after one month of inactivity (a protective measure in case players lose their Session Key).

Are bets provably fair?

Of course! Satoshi Dice pioneered provably fair gaming and Tribute uses a robust verification system so players can check that each bet they place is fair. Further, players are able to provide their own client seed if they wish.

Is the original Satoshi Dice gone?

Nevar! The original is now called Satoshi Dice Classic, and operates just as before. The site has been redone with a few new requested features.  Classic and Tribute run separately, and bets placed on Classic do not affect player rankings or Tribute stats.

What if I have questions?

Post them here or email the Spirit directly at support(@)satoshidice(.)com

LAUNCH PROMOTION

The first 1000 players who lose 0.1 BTC from their wagers will have 0.1 BTC deposited back in their account (ie - roughly $20 of risk free gaming!).

Enjoy!!

Launch Notes:

- Live site is running with decent performance now.

Known Bugs:
- Automatic promo is not functional (the 0.1 BTC is not being sent). It will send when we get it fixed to any accounts owed.

- There is a bug with some players getting kicked from their session. Restarting the computer tends to fix this (we know, not a great solution) Fixed

- There is a bug which throws up "Error Processing Request" on some bets. The bet still occurs, but is not displayed or logged where the player can see it. So, some players think they have BTC removed from their account when in fact it was a bet loss. Fixed

- While the hot wallet gets broken into numerous bitcoin inputs, when there are zero confirmed funds in the hot wallet, players get a Max Bet of zero (meaning they can't bet). This gets corrected whenever a new block is found, and the problem will resolve itself over time. Fixed

- There is a memory leak causing progressive laggyness platform-wide. This should be fixed by Wednesday night (Nov 6th) .  Fixed

- Some players are having deposits not show up. We have a temporary script run a couple times per day to catch these, and have a more permanent solution on the way.

^^^ We are working to kill these bugs ASAP.

Playing Tips:

- Press Enter to roll once automatically. Press Shift to Martingale automatically.
- Check the Live Chat if you have questions
- API is available here: https://satoshidice.com/api
- "Tribute Earned" is a cumulative total of all the tribute you've received from other players
- To clarify: Having rank gets you tribute, but having tribute doesn't get you rank.

So essentially I can deposit .1 BTC, make one bet at 50% and freeroll it? If I lose how do I get my refund and how long will it take before I get my .1 BTC back?

Some interesting new ideas here with the ranking system. Going to take a look now

The 0.1 bonus will be sent to you as a bitcoin transaction (over the blockchain) to your deposit address in the SD account. It should happen immediately once you are down a net of 0.1 btc.

Deposited 0.1, played a little bit at the start when the site was extremely slow, half the rolls didn't process and the other half took a minute or more sometimes. After a while it cleared up and it became a much better experience. Played my 0.1 up to 0.21 (with a detour past 0.23 and then 0.06) before I lost it all. Was instantly credited with a fresh 0.1 thanks to the promotion. Withdrew that and a few mBTC extra which corresponds to the tribute I received.

Site looks nice and functions well (after the initial problems at launch), but it doesn't seem to have any unique advantages over sites like Just-Dice or PrimeDice. The tribute-thing is a cute gimmick, but will ultimately only affect a very small number of people.

Extremely laggy, but looted about half a bitcoin. Was good day.

Update on the slowness - we believe it's caused by the interaction of our server and our DDoS protection. Queries that take 60ms on our test server are taking 1.3 seconds on the live site (under DDoS protection). Continuing to work on this throughout the day. This game will be fast. Thank you for your patience.

The lag is really bad, please solve it ASAP.

Also, after I get in, I cannot find any clue if the bonus is still available to me.

I can't make any bet, the "bet max" value is zero, though I have way more than that in my account.

Edit: Everything is working now :)

Okay, it is worse now, the site is not accessible with the "504 Gateway Time-out" or "502 Bad Gateway" error.

Edit: Everything is working now :)

Title: Re: SatoshiDICE Tribute - Fast and Fierce Social Dice Gaming

I cannot access the site, always get 504 Gateway Time-out.

Sometimes I can finally load the site, and after entering the login key, I get "404 Not Found".

Is it just me? or everyone here have the same problem?

Please cut them some slack and wait a bit longer.

The live server is having a mental breakdown. We are taking it to the hospital.

We're switching to a backup server while we investigate the issue, which will be up in a few hours. Nobody's funds are in danger. Thank you for your patience.

No offence but all the people that have funds on the new satoshidice tribute want to know when they will be available again.

An official announcement with constant updates of the situation is needed.

PR, what's the situation?

Hello, sorry for the delay. We're narrowing this problem down. We've brought it up temporarily on a new server to try some things. We see people already joined in and started playing ;)  Problem still isn't solved though and performance is terrible. We continue to work.

Regarding an ETA, it'll be more than a few hours but less than a day. Wish I could be more precise.

Your bet data is safe and if you saw the result on the website then it was already recorded in the database, so congrats on the win :)

Update Time:

We have more details now about the nature of the problem.

All site operations (betting, stats, etc) run through our API server. On the test platform, the API server barely uses any CPU; yet on the production platform it was running 100% despite the production platform being far more powerful. According to the processing stats we have, requests were being processed extremely quickly (~60ms/call avg) on the production platform. So something else is amiss. The major difference between the test platform and production, is that production has several additional security layers. It must be some dynamic within these layers that has introduced a bug not discovered on testing.

Long story short, there is a problem with the production API server (likely a problem with how the code is written, not the physical server itself). We have two excellent developers on this right now who are working as fast as possible to isolate the bug and resolve it.

Will post another update in several hours and assess an ETA then. Based on this ETA, we'll get user deposits returned. Thank you for your continued patience, we've had some really kind PMs and the community support is heartening :)

This was because the processing agent got stuck (happens occasionally). It's now back and processing the backlog. All is well (with the old SD at least :) )

Update Time:

Our new server is set up with all services ready. Blockchain is syncing which will take a while (damn satoshidice!) The API server is running much better in the new environment. Once the blockchain is synced, the components will be brought online, tested internally by us, and then opened to the wild. If we see gameplay happening smoothly, we'll post here to inform that Tribute is back in business.

And to reiterate, all deposits are safe. All account/session activity is preserved from when you were playing before and will be in the same state you left it.

ETA: 9-12 hrs

Thank you guys.

Honestly this is becoming embarassing.

People (like me) read on the forum about the launch of the new satoshidice platform, decide to play and get their funds trapped for 48 hours.

The updates are all the same "just few hours, just few hours", but already 48 hours passed.

So, is possible to have the real point of the situation?

nice idea with the tribute system though.

is it right that the top 3 players are resetted daily?
Are there any results from the first day how many tribute they received?

thank you in advance!

I start to be tired of this "we are close" and nothing happen.

This launch of "tribute" has been terrible, funds are hostage by 2 days, let's hope they will recover some reputation is some way.

Errors can happen, cut them some slack. They are trying their best to get it back online (and it is right now).

Yes sorry, forgot to add that. The promo has been restarted for 1000 sessions. If you lose 0.1 BTC, you'll have that much paid to you as a deposit into your account. We will post here again when this promo runs out.

Enjoy! (https://satoshidice.com)

A bug has been found - occasionally the player's "Max Bet" is set to zero (meaning you can't bet). We'll fix this asap. In the meantime, the bug goes away on its own after a few minutes.

EDIT - this is likely related to btc change in the hot wallet. Awaiting more blocks!

There is another bug with the promotion bonus (it's not getting sent). Rest assured your bonus will be sent to your account once we resolve it. It's likely a server migration issue since it worked beautifully on the original launch platform.

You need to fix the text. Make it completely white, not black with white outlines, so people can actually read it.
https://i.imgur.com/0YPWIhA.png

The website is very slow, and very glitchy. The design means nothing, if you can't play the game.

I'm not the only experiencing these issues:
https://i.imgur.com/Nkck5p7.png

Chat messages are taking minutes to show up. Not exactly "live chat".

I honestly expected more from SatoshiDICE's new "Fast and Fierce" dice game.

Site got stuck... again, but this one is taking longer than usual (over 1h).
Blocks appeared, but the site's maxbet stuck to 0...
Withdrawals/Deposits do not process either..

I think there aren't admins online right now either =( .

Overall good experience, but you got to work harder on the lag ... And other bugs.

Nice thing about the bonus feature, but I think many players missed it because of the bugs.

Waiting for some news, as there are many players waiting for them in the frozen website :) .

Regards and hope it will get better in time, ASAP...

Update time:

The Bad News:  We need to keep the site down until tomorrow (technically part of it is online, but players cannot login).  Site is up but not running well. We're monitoring for testing purposes.

The Good News: We have two basic server setups - our web server and our API server. Today, substantial improvements were made on the web server. We completely redid the processing engine. It is now far better able to handle load and to avoid some of the errors that have been occurring. The API server is still in the hospital still causing problems and needs further work, and this is our focus tomorrow.

Yes we will restart the promotion once all is up and healthy. As always, all deposits are safe and all betting stats, history, and tribute are preserved. Your patience (and the kind feedback we're received from some people) is greatly appreciated.

You can likely access the site now, but it will be laggy.

Update Time:

Today, the site has been reliably stable - the backend is technically working without crashing or seeing fatal errors. Performance is still sluggish, however. Two updates were applied today that have significantly reduced server burden. Further, we know now that the Tribute calculations - specifically the way the system calculates them - are the primary remaining bottleneck. Tuesday and Wednesday this bottleneck will be worked on, and this plus the two main bugs players are experiencing will be solved by Thursday evening (European time).

For now, the site is remaining online so players can withdraw balances as needed.

Regarding the promotional bonus - players who lost up to 0.1 BTC will be getting their bonus, we have it tracked. We cannot turn on the bonus system right now, as we need to limit the components of the system that are in operation. Any of you so far as of this post will be receiving the bonus, so please don't worry.

For any specific issues, please email us at support at satoshidice.com and thank you for sticking with us through this! People have been really kind, considering we dropped the ball on the launch. Thank you!

Update Time:

Site is up. We're continuing to work on code improvements with the API and database.

In the meantime, we've changed the Tribute calculations such that they reset every 30 mins instead of every 24 hours (you still keep all the Tribute you've received, of course). This helps our database process much faster. When we get the problems solved, we may change it back to 24 hrs unless the players prefer the shorter intervals.

SD Tribute is down so we can apply some patches. If you made a deposit and it didn't show up, don't worry, the funds are safe (and we can confirm on the blockchain). Similarly, withdrawals that were supposed to process will go out as expected once the site is back up. We will have the site back up on Friday. Thank you for your patience.

Site is up. We corrected a bug that wasn't seeing deposits. Any deposits now will show up instantly (zero conf) or will take no more than 15 mins to be corrected (it's not based on confs, it's based on a script that is running to check txs on the blockchain).

The Error Processing Request bug is still here and is our next priority. If/when you see it, your bet is still happening as normal (whether win or loss), but it won't show in your history unless you refresh page.

If it's still DDOS'ed , it looks like it's attacked from dozens different spots.

Damn you, informational attacks!

Hope it gets better..
That's the idea behind a distributed denial of service attack.

Hi.

I had over 1.1BTC on my account. I can't login because I get an "Error processing request on the login page." Like this: https://i.imgur.com/K1qCqIA.png

This happened last night too but then it worked for a few minutes and now back to this.

What's going on?

Hello - we're having more DDoS issues right now, giving 504 errors on the site (just what we needed!).

We're working on a solution and will be rolling out more patches in the coming days for further site fixes and optimizations. Thanks for your patience.

Sir.. I sent you a message.. Please check.. ive been waiting for 5days for my refund....

Thank You

And yes it has been an awful launch. We've been sacrificing goats for days but no luck so far.

No wonder...the goat ghosts must have came haunting back.

I'm rather suprised that SD was valued to millions of $ worth of BTC, and they release something buggy that need so much "live" fixing over several days. Why didn't they wait for Christmas with a finite product, rather than releasing for halloween with a quick-and-dirty version? That look more amateurish than most of their smaller competitors in the dice-gambling world. SD, be careful, you cannot expect to keep your position in the market indefinitely just based on your name!

Hello all,

Apologies for the delay in updates. Yesterday we released a patch which has resolved a number of bugs, including the "Error Processing Request" issue that plagued some bets. The website itself is loading much faster now. Lag in the gameplay is now greatly reduced, but not perfect... and we will make it perfect. Further, we have also fixed -most- of the issues regarding missing deposits and inability to withdraw and work today and tomorrow should correct the remainder. We believe the bug is related - some deposits aren't getting noticed, and thus the system doesn't see them, and so the deposit doesn't appear and withdrawals from the account don't work because the site thinks there are "pending" transactions.

The site has now processed over 100,000 rolls. We promise the next 100,000 will be much smoother, and we continue to work. We've handled the majority of outstanding customer service emails - thank you guys for your patience!

Just ran a script to find any missing deposits and add them to players' accounts. If you've had a missing deposit recently, it is likely fixed now. If not, please send PM or contact an admin on the site chat and we'll investigate.

When will we expect that?

The bonus is still paused as the deposits it created were causing a bug with withdrawals. Many people have actually received the bonus but it's just not showing in their account yet (due to this bug).  So, until further notice (likely a few days while we work on higher priorities), the bonus system is switched off.

Be careful! Do not enter your BTC to this site! It can be found under DOS and not working correctly! Confirmation of the new deposit extends from one day or longer! Withdraw BTC you can not! Requires confirmation deposit is not clear what the confirmation. Administrator and support available to chat and do not respond to the letter! I look forward to my 4 day confirmation of BTC to take them back.

Deceivers! If the site does not work correctly, turn it off!

Tribute will remain offline while we correct these issues on a fundamental level, because you, the players, deserve better. We will announce the re-launch of Tribute no earlier than December 15th. All player deposits will be refunded.

We apologize sincerely for the disappointment. Thank you to the community for the productive feedback. We will make this right.

Bravo! You took 4 days .......

Hello all,

As some of you saw, we've decided to take Tribute down for now. We were just not able to get a handle on the performance issues and it was not fair to the players. We will work hard to make the product you deserve.

In the meantime, we'll be automatically sending out all balances to players' withdrawal addresses. There are around 4,000 accounts so this will likely take a few days. Thank you for your patience.

Tribute will return with a vengeance (and proper functionality ;) )

What about the missing 0.1 promo?
Will you send it to the withdrawal address directly as well?

There is another bug with the promotion bonus (it's not getting sent). Rest assured your bonus will be sent to your account once we resolve it. It's likely a server migration issue since it worked beautifully on the original launch platform.

Started to swear here and claim to disable the site's disabled, promised to return the deposit, but a week passed.
The administration also does not answer letters.

Satoshidice Tribute... in case you haven't noticed you are sending bitcoins to people who have already had a successful withdrawal from you.

For example
Wallet #1 received 3 payments from you a few weeks ago, 0.5, 0.5 and 0.5 btc
Now you have sent that person another 1.5 btc

Not good, you have done this many times (even mine but only a small amount) I notice 1 person has sent 10btc back but kept 0.5 for himself.

You might want to look into this before issuing anymore 'refunds'

Another example.. and there's plenty more

1JTRcqCa1vCc4psi6GKGctLJpgDB2G62XP

You sent 29.52552611 btc here 2 days ago as one of your 'refunds'

but a few days earlier this same wallet received 29.52467486 in 2 withdrawals from you and had no more deposits to you since then.

That's one lucky wallet ;)

Instead of refunding outstanding balances, they seem to be refunding all previous deposits+withdrawls. In otherwords they're giving away a truck load of btc.

2 days ago I received some btc from satoshidice but they didn't owe me anything as I already withdrew it over 2 weeks ago.

People who successfully withdrew 30btc from satoshidice tribute have just been sent another 30btc.

Help yourself... there's pages of their 'refunds' Check the addresses they were sent to, most of them were owed nothing. Instead they just received double their previous withdrawals myself included.

You can see the 2nd transaction from the top, one person decided to send the 12btc back to them... most other people have done a runner. Rightfully so as its satoshidices mistake.

They've had to go through thousands of refunds (most were done by mistake and they've lost hundreds of BTC) so unless its worthy amount then give them a break. Afaik they issued refunds to previously used withdrawal addresses so doesn't that means you used that inputs.io address before on their site?

Hello all - withdrawal payments have started going out from yesterday (Sunday). There is a large list of accounts to process, so we are monitoring the transactions. We'll ensure that the bonus 0.1 btc goes out to all appropriate accounts (though it won't necessarily be in the first transaction you receive).  Thank you kindly for your patience thus far, we know the wait has been ridiculous.

Its only 0.1 and some satoshi but that it significant to me, over $100 currently. Yes, I deposited using inputs.io but when they were hacked I noted all the websites I used them with and was being very careful to not use that address anymore. It was very reckless to just send refunds back to the deposit addresses, how would they know if the depositor now has/ever had control of the deposit address?

When starting a session on SD:T you were asked to provide a withdrawal address. I reckon that's the address used for the repayments.

Actually I thank SatoshiDICE for curing my mild gamble addiction.
Bitcoin gamble is dangerous, because it is easy to access. Much easier than physically attending casino.
Further, there is no such thing as Self Exclusion Request here.
Luckily I met SatoshiDICE and learnt a lesson. The first impression of BTC gamble will now keep me out of it.
Thanks to those who are kind enough to share successful refund experience, now I think I will receive it some time, Although the waiting sucks.

Edit: Finally I've received the refund.

Still waiting on my refund! Who else is?

Or did I just get screwed on my own?

Sending an email mentioning your BTC address(the address in which you sent deposited to SatoshiDICE Tribute) will help.
In my case, it took 1 day to get reply and 2 more days to get refunded.
Now I assume they are not trying to rip off, they are just not very "experienced".

I did that; no response.

It's not a lot of money but the long wait is most irritating along with some people getting double refunds!

After a fair bit of hassle I finally got my money back; as it turns out they are an honest bunch!

Why is the legacy satoshidice site always struggeling with reachability/accessibility?

I made a bet yesterday and it is still not processed, though blockchain shows that it is confirmed?!
