Title: Unable to post
Post by: MauledByPorcupines on November 02, 2013, 11:27:17 PM
I keep trying to post here. Whenever I do, I get an error saying something like "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later." This is true even if I haven't posted at all.

Then, when I try posting again, it said "You already submitted this post! You might have accidentally double clicked, or tried to refresh." and wouldn't let me post it.

Unfortunately, despite all that, it doesn't look like my post was submitted at all. It still says I have 0 posts in my profile, and I can't post anywhere but here. So I'm trying again. :|

Welcome. :)

I had the same thing happen to me. I think previewing is counted as posting for the purpose of that time limit.

I think newbies have to wait 6 minutes after posting searching or even logging in.

It can be buggy at times. It is also tough as a new member with the posting limits -- be careful not to lose a whole post that you have written out! I am told it gets better.  :)

You can only posts every  6 minutes, it is a newbie rule. It is only lifted after you have 15 activity or your status will become "member".

It is not a bug or glitch. You cannot "solve" it.
You need to get to jr member to post anywhere, and get to member to stop the 360 second limit.

I have been a member for a long time, with a total log in time of 12 hours and 5 minutes.

Only ever read posts now I would like to post I have to just post of the sake of it to be able to post.

Just copy it after getting the last message or wait 360 before posting (and avoid receiving the first message) and the message will most likely get posted.

There is no newbie restriction now.
Just wait 6 minutes after registering your account, you can already make a post anywhere as you like.

Same problem here. :\

If the problem you are having is the "360 seconds" error, you just need to wait for 360 seconds between your posts.
Actions like logging in, signing up and searching will reset the timer, thus you cannot make a post right after your login.

I get the exact same issues as the author of this thread, both of them.
This is very annoying and frustrating.
The limit is not at all reasonable or friendly:  if logging in or preview counts.

The error message that you already posted when you have not -- is very confusing.

Someone should fix this.

The unfriendly first impression,  and encountering unusual severe user interface bugs when trying to make a first post...   is probably chasing off a lot more potential contributors than just  bothersome spammers.

Just wait the 360 seconds, once you are a member that goes away.

The limit never goes away, but the time will be shorter with higher activity level.
You just need to get 15 activity, and the time limit will be down to 75 seconds.

What are the time limits on posting and the levels??
I know 360 seconds are for new people like me, but was wondering if there was break down somewhere on this.

Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

I'm finding that the 'You've already submitted this post' error almost always happens after getting the 360 second error. Best thing to do is to copy the message, go back to the thread and click reply again, then paste it back in. Sometimes this triggers another 360 second wait though :S

I agree about the 360 second rule and also the 'you already posted this' bug. They are very unfriendly for newbies. As more people who are not 'very tech savvy' become familiar with bitcoin, they will come across this forum which is a massive aid for newbs to BTC. It nearly chased me away when i got these messages (in fact it did for that day but stubbornness made me come back again the following day!)

Hopefully as this site evolves further, it will become a little more user friendly for non tech folk!

Even hero members have the limit lol.
Say, if you have 500+ activity, the time limit will be 4 seconds :)

Its pretty much no limit at all. For a member its 60 Secs and that is at least the time you need to write and post. So, you just got to have till member are you are free to post.

the limit is also valid for searches and messages.

Six minutes between posts for a new member isn't unreasonable, but the timer resets even if you navigate through the forum. For instance, if I find something I want to post on, I have to make sure not to touch that browser window or look at anything else on the forum for six minutes, else the counter will reset. I find that a bit strange.

That's not true. Log-ins, searches and attempted posts reset the clock, browsing or clicking around does not. The time limit also quickly goes down the more activity you get.

I dont agree. What it is good for to login and post immediatelly, other than spam ?

When I load up the site: I am not logged in.  I am almost always not 'logged in'. I will read many discussions,  while still not logged in.

When I see something that I wish to reply to;  I expect to be able to login, and post my reply immediately.
It is unreasonably annoying,   to get a "Wait 6 minutes" error message,   when attempting to complete the post at that point.

Usually what happens then, is I will abandon the reply, as it just isn't worth it.
I might not immediately logout after posting,    but  I am not logging in every day that I visit the site.

Why don't you just stay logged in or as soon as you view the site log in then so it'll be fine when you try post. Or if you just waited the full six minutes before attempting to post you'd be fine.

You are new. Until you have some posts here and some activity you won't be able to post in other sections. This is to minimize spam I suppose.

messages also give you a 360 second barrier from posting, so keep that in mind too ;)
at least until you break out from newbie jail :D

I agree about the 360 second rule and also the 'you already posted this' bug. They are very unfriendly for newbies. As more people who are not 'very tech savvy' become familiar with bitcoin, they will come across this forum which is a massive aid for newbs to BTC. It nearly chased me away when i got these messages (in fact it did for that day but stubbornness made me come back again the following day!)

I agree that many newbies come to bitcointalk to ask their questions, but it is indeed not that hard to wait 6 minutes before making your post.

Also, we will have a lot more spamming if people can register an account and make 10 posts in a minute.

You only need to withstand the 360s limit for at most 2 weeks.
I am sure you can survive it lol. :)

MauledByPorcupines, Free yourself by becoming a "member" then you won't need to wait 360 seconds anymore.

Title: Please Help! What Am I Doing Wrong As I Can't Post My Articles?
Post by: kendido on March 19, 2014, 05:03:12 PM
Hi Everyone, but especially Wiser and  Fuzzybear. I have been helped with my 2 posts in the Wiki: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=the_bait_by_kendido, and: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=the_termites_in_power_by_kendido. But all the other posts I have been making have never gone through. I followed the guide to letter 'T', but it seems I am missing something out as the articles are not going through.

I am therefore detailing the steps I took for my last article which did not go through still below.

 (1.) I Pasted the URL on the browser: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=what_are_hybrid_cars. As the title of my article was "What Are Hybrid Cars" The page says "You've followed a link to a topic that doesn't exist yet. If permissions allow, you may create it by clicking on “Create this page”

(2.) I clicked "Create this page", copied
 ==Original==

==Tip==

into the box and entered my coin address.

 (3) I pasted the article and formatted it.

I added the [[:hybrid_cars]] Source: First published in devtome

Reviewed it and saved. Today, the article disappeared. But when  you paste the URL: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=what_are_hybrid_cars into browser, it shows my article, but at my home page, only the  earlier poem and  short story that Fuzzybear helped me formatted are what are on my userpage: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:kendido

This has continually been happening. Please I need help. Thanks

kendido.

New user here, read through this thread in case I experience the same. Found this informative on the limitations newbies will go through.

Thank you guys for the tips, hope I can go past the limitations soon. I've got so much to ask and learn from BTT and the cryptocurrency world.

It`ll become less as time progresses. It becomes less when you hit jr.member then member, etc.

Just wait a few more weeks and you're good.

360s, I remember that times without any longing.

But could be worse, there was a time where newbies were confined to post only in the newbie section

The waiting time will decrease in time. In about 2-3 months you can be a member and forget waiting time even exists  :)

Why make it so hard for new user?
To prevent spambots, spammy users and to force people to think before they post. Don't complain, the rules were a lot more strict back in the day. Back then new members could only post in their own subforum, so other users wouldn't be bothered by those new users.

It's annoying but it gets easier as time goes on. I think its a good feature.

Title: Re: Unable to post

I keep trying to post here. Whenever I do, I get an error saying something like "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later." This is true even if I haven't posted at all.

Then, when I try posting again, it said "You already submitted this post! You might have accidentally double clicked, or tried to refresh." and wouldn't let me post it.

Unfortunately, despite all that, it doesn't look like my post was submitted at all. It still says I have 0 posts in my profile, and I can't post anywhere but here. So I'm trying again. :|
You are not the only one it's annoying me to!

The limit actually stops some spammers to spam too fast. Some people just create accounts and spam the forum. It is annoying but those who are really interested in this forum would spend some time to post and gain more activity, their limit will then be removed.

Something that helps, when you forget you are targeted by the 360 seconds.

Lazarus: Form Recovery
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/

Because the forum don't remember your typed message you lose it. Well, lazarus, you may recover your typed message.

With the draft feature added in March, your post should be saved automatically after getting the 360s error.
