A while ago (2017) there was this Dutch family that sold all their assets for BTC and is now traveling around the world. He had around 500k USD worth of BTC and expects it will at least make 5x in the next 3 years. In the meanwhile, they are living modestly and using 20% of their cryptos to trade.

Would you dare to do the same? Sell all your FIAT for CRYPTO?

But to answer your question, because it's an interesting one. I really don't know, since I don't have that kind of money. But if I would have, I guess I would invest in crypto, yes. Just not 100% of assets and I definitely wouldn't go around selling any of my beloved physical possessions or family heritage for that matter. But most definitely not if I would have a family. It's a rash decision, really. You need to be brave to do something like that, especially if you have a family. Imagine losing everything and think about the children. Somehow you need to bring them up. If you have $500,000 in possession already, why risk it? :D But usually, people with money get more money and those with cents, lose even those cents. Sadly, that is how the world works. :D

This is very risky. all  eggs are not in the same basket. I think you should distribute the risk. It's a very wavesly place in crypto.

I would not do the same thing as they did, because as we all know, cryptocurrency is a very risky investment, What if the cryptocurrency suddenly crashes, what will happen to you. That is what i cannot do. I can't sell all my fiat for crypto, because I have a policy when it comes to any investment, either in crypto or any other area of investment. I only invest what i can afford to loose. Perhaps the family that sold all fiat for crypto can afford to do, but i tell you it is quite risky. Well business is all about risk.

Sell all your fiat?  How do you sell cash?  You mean buy cryptocurrencies with all your fiat and that's a horrible financial thing to do.  Cryptocurrencies can lead to great fortunes but going all-in in anything is a huge mistake and puts your back against the wall.  

Selling all your assets and money to invest in crypto is not a wise move for me, only invest that you can afford comfortably, also diversification is the best strategy, you can own multiple real world and crypto assets and make money from all streams while lowering the risk.

I do not think it's possible to live 100% crypto. As you say, they have to sell 20% of their crypto (so, turn it into fiat) in order to be able to live. You can't pay school bills in crypto.

Come on, it's not possible to live 100% of crypto. You still need to convert some for fiat just for everyday use.
Maybe, in the future when you will be able to pay everything with cryptocurrency it would be possible to do this though.

You have to admire people like that, they live life to the fullest and don't worry about the ordinary bills and daily grind. There are a few people that have sold their assets for crypto, mostly property. Now would be the best time to do it while the market is down and about to rise.

Profitable, but have a very high risk it is commonly called the Martingale Strategy. The main basis of this strategy is that sooner or later the price will rise far beyond the boundary of the flatlining of earnings. I think this strategy this's not much different from the long-term investments we often make maybe this strategy used by a Dutch family.

That would be a very risky move, selling all their assets, you mean everything? Are they using btc to sustain their daily needs? I think they still have a few cents for their daily needs, but majority of their assets was put to btc.

I play this game the other way around: I haven't invested anything since 2013.  I invested 600$ then, got it out before 2013 ended and now I'm playing with the profit of all these years.  If it goes to 0 then it's game over.  For now it's game on  ;D 

I don't think I have the balls to do it that way. But my lifestyle have a very hard connection to the real world and it is not easy to break it up. Anyway looks like a cool idea and I will consider it in the near and no so near future.

This is not good decision as all eggs in one pot can give very big shock we need to do some good decision for life as we are living with family its more selective as most of time pundits give tips they also never encourage to do decision like this just 20% or 25% is very good enough for investment in any trade I will never do this as this Dutch family done because I have no heart like this and cannot afford to do investment like this

The sale of assets and fiat currencies to invest in crypto I think that is a mistake because if you do that will be very risky because you can not be sure whether the exchange rate of BTC increases or decrease, just a guess. Again, it is not allowed to put eggs in the same basket, as this will risk losing all of your possessions.

Just using 20% of their coins to trade and make profit to live is actually an unbelievable. They have to be very lucky to make such profits. Whatever, but selling all by assets and converting all my fiat to crypto currencies is something i will not be willing to do, since the risk over here is extremely huge.

With bitcoin being highly volatile and with the fact that price could fall immediately, he could very well be selling the house for half a price which was first intended in a matter of days. I will never do that, because I prefer to take affordable risks. I will never risk my dwelling, my car and other things that make my life comfortable. I will find other ways to make money. Crypto currency can give as well as deprive you everything.

I believe that there was another family which sold everything in order to put it in BTC and moved to trailer and are waiting for the moon.

The is what i may not be able to do, because it is quite risky and might not seem reasonable from my side. One might need fiat at any point in time, so what should happen in that case. Apart from that, anything can happen st any time. What is prices fall and i need fiat at that time. Then, i will have to sell low and loose. I think that I will not have all my crypto savings for traveling around the world. I think I still need to work hard to earn so much money. I think the way this family did is very risky, but it can bring good profit in the future.

I wonder how they survive the latest ultimate dip in which the Bitcoin price from $19,800 is down to $6,000 and still they could enjoying travelling around the world with those luxury expenses with expectation to earn up to 5X from their remaining Bitcoin assets. I found this story something like fabricated but somehow i am wondering if it's true. Do they really exist or they just only exist for this kind of topic, and now i am being an skeptical for this story and it seems that it is not legit. Anyway, if one family do happens something like this i wonder how they manage the risk of selling their property. Did they ever doubt about of the cryptocurrency?

I would say it was a desperate decision, but maybe they'll win from it. It's like all or nothing. I'm not ready to risk like this. Even if the crypto market grows during the next year I won't sell all fiat for crypto, until the cryptocurrencies will be used instead of fiat money.

I doubt that was a family's decision! Must be a solo decision taken by the man of the house and it turned out he was damned lucky. Beyond that, he would have regretted ever putting his family's joy and progress on the line. That's everything gambling and it 's not something I would urge anyone to embark on with all cash at hand.

Is this really possible? Can one really live off of crypto alone, never again to use fiat? If not, it may be a good idea to hold onto your fiat currency, because even though this idea may be feasible, it really doesn't seem beneficial at the moment. What a very risky thing to do which you do convert all of your money into bitcoin which we didn't even know on where the price go either it would go down or it would rise up.I don't know how they do able to handle the risk when it comes to price volatility.Unless if you do have back up funds then you should not worry but the action that they made is too dangerous on my side but well its their own money they do have the full control of it.

This decision is very personal, because we all have different priorities. Some, who want the freedom to live a gypsy life, the choice of laying roots at will, it suits them fine. But people who need to settle down, should never sell all their fiat or assets.

Thia ia not advisable specially when some are just small tine investors. This market is very volatile and unpredictable if pwople expect a quick profit in trading and HODLing then they are wrong. Before trading you should have proper discipline, knowledge and you should know where to stop since being too greedy might lose you your money. that was before 2018 where cyrptocurrency boom especially bitcoin and it skyrocket. for me selling all your property to invest in cryptocurrency is not a wise decision. not all will have the same result. what they do is a gamble and they have guts to do it. you can do it too but my advice is not to do it.

Apparently there were no risk management involved there and it was obvious, he merely took his chance, which fortunately turned out to his favor. For me, it is not a wise decision to invest your money in a bucket. A wise investor always divide his investment into different parts. That's why portfolio is invented for us to have different coins. I dont think I can do that. First of all there is too much at stake and the risk is very high. If crypto market drops, all your money and assests will go down with it, but if the market soar high, so as your money. So its a 50-50 chance and I cant take that chance involving all my assets. What if something happens one day and the whole crypto market collapses and his coins are worthless or lost? It's not wise not to have any assets. I can bet that mostly everyone will not do that. That was a high level of risk for anyone to take and when I saw this news back then, a lot of people said so many things on how stupid this guy must have been for taking such a risk at the detriment of his family. These guy practically sold everything, rented an apartment, started trading some part of it, and I guess it is paying well for him obviously now, considering the time this happened but like you said, that was more like a 50-50 chance which can be classified as a gamble, and too much risk to take in at once.

This happened way back last year when the value of a bitcoin was still hovering around $4000, and from the look of things, I believe it is paying him well now.

The fact that he has even decided to use 20% of that to trade is enough for anyone to do pretty well and live well in the short term. No i don't, the number of shop that accept crypto in my country is close to zero so i can't live without fiat right now, the government even banned crypto as a payment option so unless that decision is changed, no shop will dare to accept crypto. I am not sure anymore, but I remember reading that this family was well educated (often the case in The Netherlands) and that this was 'just a phase' which means they are able to fall back on pretty much everything.

For us Dutchies it is very easy to just roam the world. You have a Dutch (strong) passport and the Dutch safety net. As long as you have enough funds to fly back you're ok. I mean, school (for the kids) is pretty much free, healthcare is pretty much free (low monthly if you don't earn that much). If they are indeed well educated, it should be easy for them to get a job. Also, housing (rent) would be quite easy if they do not need to live in Amsterdam or some similar place :).

For me it is a crazy thing and i would never do the same thing. That is because how can we assure that crypto market would behave in such regular way? According to me, we can't sell all our fiat currencies and exchange them for crypto currencies. We cannot only live with crypto currencies especially in countries that do not allow transactions with crypto currencies. In my opinion, crypto currencies and fiat currencies are both complementary things. Both function complement each other and not replace each other. I don't think it's a very good idea. The risk factors in crypto currency is very high. And it's in a baby stage and anything could be happen from here. So the idea of convert everything into crypto is not a good idea for me.
