in your opoinion what are the disadvantages of altcoin ?

Well, altcoins are being developed on various native blockchain like ethereum, neo, stratis, nem etc. As these native blockchain have limitations, altcoins built on top of that appear to have limitations.

The first major reason can be adoption. Numerous of ICO's are being launched and products are being developed, but only few of them contains possibility of adoption in real-time. We have to wait until mainnet launch and within this time it might get competitors with running product, right? However, look at the adoption possibilities of Request Netwrok, WABI etc, as they clear roadmap checkpoint, possibility of adoption is great.

If you have mistakenly sent your altcoins to other address than recipient, your sent altcoins are lost. There is no way to reverse back that transaction.

Volatility of altcoins is the most important factor behind poor adoption of altcoins. People don't want to use them within their real application because of the fear of price uncertainty. Most of the giant companies are silent towards cryptocurrencies and ratio of unawareness from cryptocurrencies is not supposed to be decrease due to this fact. People are not aware of how to use cryptocurrency and hence open themselves to hacker and scammers. The technology is somewhat complex and therefore one needs to be mindful of it before investing.

Altcoins are used only as an investment device rather than their own use case. This is the biggest disadvantage of any altcoin unfortunately it is created by users itself. Other than this there is alot of manipulation in the market of altcoins.

Most altcoins do not have such a wide infrastructure as bitcoin, which is the main argument against this money in people who do not recognize alternative coins. Many altcoins, even bitcoins are no exception, are accused of illegal transactions. In particular, for conducting secret accounting. For example, Dash and Monero can not be tracked even through the block, so transactions in them can be a threat.

The main disadvantage I see here is that they are developed based on another crypto currency like, ETH, NEO etc so that they inherit the limitation of their parent currencies. The price is also given relative to ETH, NEO, BTC or another, so if that currency goes down, the value of out ALT also goes down.

In my view the main disadvantage is the non stability and high volatility, also if something goes wrong it effects the value drastically, i have seen alts going valueless within matter of days.

I think its a loss if it leads a scam. That is all. Why loss? Because it has been a waste of time. But if it leads to a scam, it's useless.

Biggest disadvantages of altcions will be there are a lot of altcoins out here which including true one and also fake one. It is necessary for us to do our duty as in do research to know more about the coins that we are going to invest, or else we will losses our investment capital for nothing.

They scale worse than the big boys, and the big caps already have problems. I wonder if these coins will be 1:1 fungible and if many retailers will accept them. Basically my main concern comes around the usage and utility these tokens and coins can provide. If you can't use them, then whats the point?

I would say there are many good altcoins but they are under bitcoin shadow or something is missing. Take a look at stellar for example - fast and reliable but lack of wallets, it could be great altcoin. In my opinion altcoin has to be fast and secure, and it should be accepted in stores as bitcoin is.

altcoins is not the same as bitcoin, they all have different purpose, they are not like bitcoin. there's a lot of altcoins that has been launch every single day, and every altcoins have the possibility to drop its price depends on the developers move.

The advantage of alcoin was it make the transactions easier since no more physical need to purchase goods or services. All you need is to have internet to transact with it.

I suppose you are right about the addresses as well as volatility. However, if you send a letter with some cash to the wrong address, you will probably lose them as well. And does it really happen every time with cryptos? I mean, if you misspell something from the address and there's no address with the code such as you wrote then they disappear? Well, anyway, as for volatility, it is both attracting and shocking people. Generally, people prefer stability, but technically there's no stability, because people keep selling and buying coins, trying to get profit. In this sense, there's also demand for volatility.
As for adoption, I think it is not a disadvantage of cryptocurrencies, but rather is something that they lack temporarily.
I think that the worst thing about altcoins is that there are too many of them, while humanity need a lot fewer than what there already is. This means that the market will inevitably lose funds, since lots of coins just won't make it with time.

Almost all of the answers in this thread are reading pretty generically and boring to me. It seems that this topic is rather played out, but to put it simply the amount of useless ICOs and altcoins that exist and continue to be created are giving cryptocurrencies a bad name as whole. The overwhelming majority of these coins are created without any creativity, technology innovation or solutions being offered within their project. Bitcoin has practical uses and solves practical problems. Everything that these altcoins generally stand for is selfish, manipulative, short-sighted and malicious. Obviously they are not all like that, but it is too often that the good altcoin projects are lost in the weeds among those I speak of.

I look to Altcoin more at risk for a uniform decline. it is a long-term survival. so the recovery takes a long time. besides, the recovery will not be the same.

Following are the disadvantages of alt coins:

1) They are all trying to be the next bitcoin. If some coin has real potential, it will sell on its own name only.

2) Most of the alt coins are based on ETH platform and have done no innovation at all.

They are more centralised then bitcoin and they have not got so strong community

Recently there is a feeling that new coins are being developed and released to the market not for the sake of innovation but only for short-term profits. This monetary rubbish prevents to break through to those projects that have a really useful technological solution to modern problems.

It seems to me that the biggest disadvantage of altcoin is that they are very large and most of them are simply unnecessary to people! Also, I do not like the fact that some currencies are not decentralized, because decentralization is a major plus cryptocurrency!

Most Altcoins are temporary because they are launched for raising capital for a short term project. When the project is completed the Altcoin disappear. So they are not for long term investment. They are so many Altcoins in the crypto market that it’s tough to find the most profitable and legitimate one. Many of them are scams and failed projects. Altcoins also don’t have high adoption rate. But the biggest disadvantage is that most of them even end up being a scam. But in future after some regulations surely there will be a lot of scrutiny and only the fittest ICO which bring some utility will survive. This will really clean up the whole blockchain market.

The most striking problem I can pinpoint here is that of its over dependence of their price  on the up and down movement of Btc price. It always sad to see many of them going down the drain when Btc's price seems to be diving down.

The key disadvantage of altcoins is the inadequate community. All that guys went here for profit only and they doesn't have any basic knowledge, freaking people out on the forum by their "wise" advice and statements

Some of the disadvantage of altcoin is the inability of the dev to push the altcoin further after ICO. This will frustrate  the investors as their money hangs. Also some of the altcoin will at the end of the day will turn to shit coins.

The major disadvantage of alternative is being dumped easily. There are some alternative coins I have that worth some reasonable amount but now it has turn to shit coin within a twinkle of an eye.

Well from the price obviously, because many alts have a pairing with BTC and have a big correlation with the price of btc, like if the price of btc UP alts price down and when btc down alts also become down in the price. 

in my own opinion, a huge disadvantage of an altcoin is when it's crypto project isn't that having high in demands or they're not effective enough to meet the community gap between people and services.

Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency but when there's another variety of altcoin that are almost the same with Bitcoin then I don't think it has sense or would have worth of investments.

In my opinion, altcoins have both advantages and disadvantages, but the main disadvantage of altcoins is their volatility in price and their attachment of all altcoins to the Bitcoin exchange rate.

That's a pretty vague question but let's try to answer. There are too many altcoins with little or no use case at all. Many have died, abandoned, or remain stagnant since they are irrelevant. There's also too much hype going around which I think is not good in the long term.

I feel that the biggest drawback of altcoins is the high possibility of their creators scamming people in clever ways which is not the same with Bitcoin. Popular altcoins like Ethereum, Ripple etc have already established themselves are completely legit, but there are cases of popular altcoins scamming people like Bitconnect etc which is a shame. This is why I always suggest diversifying your funds whenever possible to minimize the chances of getting scammed.

As per observation, one of the disadvantages of altcoin is that during the ICO sale, price value is still fine but once it was on the exchange sites, the tendency is that the value will drop from the previous price where it will took a very long time for it to recover and for some, it hasn't get back and continues to drop.

There are many I want to address but the disadvatage of the altcoin in general is there's too many of it, I think there should be a proper screening first or an evaluation before launching a coin, so that scam coins will be reduced too.

If we had less altcoins in the market then the prices would be doing a lot better than they are now. In the coming years, we will be watching  alot of scam altcoins failing but the problem is that as they fail, they take money out of the market with them.

the impediments of altcoin is its unsatable cost and its high votality, yet this hindrances of this altcoin can be your points of interest in winning cash from this altcoin. Due to its temperamental value you can purchase when its plunge and offer when its high. There are such a large number of altcoins existing now in crypto world some of them are in low costs and some of them cannot get any higher cost. Some of them likewise got delisted in light of its low market top.

For me, the disadvantage of alts is when its going to  dump. Im talking about attending a bounty as an example. We do the participation almost 3-4 month and the ending is a dump coin. The time is wasted and the hardwork too so that the baddest thing about alts wirh we talk disadvantages.

If we are talking about advantages, there will be many advantages. But about disadvantages? Well, I think it is about the risks and its fluctuation price of the altcoins. Sometimes, we put our money or time in the altcoins. After some months, we got nothing. It means that we lost our money and time in spending in the altcoin. However, so far, I really get more advantages than the disadvantages.

I think the disadvantages of altcoins is very risky and the price of altcoins is sometimes is very deep price and unpected dump a price. And advantage of altcoins are quike pump a price.

what are the disadvantages of altcoin ? Yeah, sure! The altcoins have some disavantages. This is a new method applied on the finance background. Besides, many countries do not accept the crypto transactions,...and other difficulties.

it's being so unpredictable. difficult to say which one will be here to stay. and it's not always decentralized. this is just my opinion, though

I think the main issue of altcoin is that they are usually less circulated in the cryptocurrency market. Comparing the altcoin like ETH, bitcoin is more usable and tradable in the market.

I bought Zclassic at 150,000 satoshi and now it's about 50,000 satoshi.
It was definitely a loss for me when I was sold now but if it was in the HODL it could be said that it had not been lost because the world was still spinning.

From the word altcoin - alternative coin meaning it's not the main dish. It is just a second or third option. If the main coin (Bitcoin, Eth) fails, all others are will fail. That was just my opinion.

Any coins all have advantages and disadvantages, and it depends on which technology that it is running. I think there is one only general disadvantage for Altcoins is that easy to be controled 50% by someone or some groups

Altcoin kingdom is as whole related to BTC directly. If BTC tends to fall ALTs tends to fall more but when BTC rises the same always does not apply. :-*
