It is not easy to avoid scams on the internet as it is not easy to avoid them in real life. The world is full of people that will try to steal everything from the others. I personally never invested in ICOs, there is always time to buy them after the team start working on their project and the coin goes on some reliable exchanges.

I think you had better do enough research. For example, you should read the white paper and find out the team members. You need to find out if they are good enough.

Yeah i would say as well that its really hard to find them out but if you do your job well, than you might make it. First thing is that you need to read the whitepaper nicely and see if there are some typos, bad graphics etc and how you think the idea would do in the blockchain era. Than i would go and check every single one of the team members on linkedin, there are a bunch of steps to take but these are good for beggining

No one can give you the right answer, it will depend your experience only. Learn by join some ICO program and make a book journal or notepad to write everything about your activity and the result. From there you can learn how to recognize scam ICO, try it and good luck.

In order to find a project worthwhile to invest in it you need to spend a lot of time and effort to check everything in detail, and only then can you make any decision. Never hurry to invest somewhere somewhere, because there is a lot of deception

Spend time digesting the whitepaper, if you're not good with the technical jargons, find someone who is. Check the team, their pedigree, qualifications, experience especially as it relates to the project. Check the community, followers on social media like telegram, twitter, reddit, etc. If the project has a prototype or Alpha version already, that's great. Also check the roadmap for consistency

ICO is a really good way to invest, but you need to be careful not to invest in fraud. Looking for a good investment project takes a lot of time; you need to review a lot of projects to find the right one. Be sure to read the white paper, browse the project site, talk to the team.

Since offering ICO to the public is a new way to raise money in large amount easily, so there will be a lot of scam ICO too in the market. The most important factor you have to check their team members background, check their social profiles search them on the internet whether they were accused for a scam in past, their profile must be clean. If possible chat them directly, check their past company in which they have worked try to reach out that company and ask about them. If you are still in doubt then wait don't buy during ICO, buy it when the coin lists on several exchanges.

There is a lot of possible red flags that can be noticed when researching ICOs, especially the team, make sure to research their legitimacy, their LinkedIn profiles etc. and avoid the ICOs that are not listing their teams at all.

Do a lot of research, read whitepaper check the MVP of the project, look for some possible redflags, team member's profiles should be in public! Do not try to participate any ICO which has redflags,if you cant find anyone in google it probably a scam, stay away from these type of projects because those scammers will always hide themselves.

It's not difficult :). You just need to ignore all ICO project that you can see or find out on the internet. Beside to avoid joining in scam bounty of scam ICO project you just need to join bounty campaign managed by truthworhty managers or Bitcoin signature campaign which pay weekly but I think it's impossible for a newbie member like you to join Bitcoin signature campaign.

To recognize a scam ico, I think you should take a look the announcements about the ico and the bounty campaign page of it. You should read the comments  and do research about it, I think these are maybe the most important ones.

One of the best legitimacy tests you can make to an ICO is speaking directly to the management team. If their backgrounds seem shady or anonymous, or you don't even hear back from them, chances are high ICO is a scam.

A real conversation with the founder of the project should be one of the first steps of your assessment.

The simplest thing you can do is go to their website and see all the criteria ICOs need. And contact the bounty team directly for information, go to the Telegram community to see if the members are active. These are the ways to help you discover a scam ICO.

Do your own homework. How? Research and investigate things regarding or towards the project. It is very hard actually yet scam ICO's nowadays is really hard to determine on the earlier phase yet they do design, market almost on legit way which we do even believe that they are real without knowing that their intentions is just to scam. This is why sometimes intuition will be a big help, when you see shady things or act then better to skip it out.

First of all, look at the site of the project, how it is executed, qualitatively? Whether there are spelling mistakes in the text, read the whitepaper, see how it is implemented. Everything should be at the highest level and look very good. Then the project has a good chance of being real and promising.

To ignore them simply press the ignore button. ;D
Block them at telegram if that is where they try to invite you.

To recognize a good one then look at their roadmap.
See the product that they will be making and try to imagine if there will be a good sense into what they will try to make.

The team should be good at cryptos and also have a marketing strategist that can explode their market cap. ;D

Some of the ICO scams looks legit, until these people turned the table so no,you cant really avoid scam projects but you can choose not to join any so that you wont be losing anything! it is risky than trading blindly because you are going to lose everything if the project that you invested to has turned into a big scam, some of these projects are allegedly connected to previous schemes so i can say these people are in group.

It will be almost impossible to completely avoid scam ICOs since much of the market is grossly unregulated. But we can at least reduce the chance of investing in scam by a good research. That will most times eliminate 90 percent scams.Look  out for crappy whitepaper, plagiarism, phony team members, advisers (contact them if a notable figure is listed),website, vision, concept (does it deserve funding in the first instance),originality, social media page-is it a new page or outright rubbish, activities,is there a parent company or research group, what is on ground,is there a viable project already, roadmap etc.The list is endless.Ask questions,it is your right to know.

Basically you cant, because these people are professionals, the website and whitepapers are good enough not to be noticed as scam, the people behind these ICOs looks legit ,but might turn into a scam all of a sudden and you wont have any idea when will these people are going to scam the investors,so as a good investor you should be doing your research.

There are definitely ways to minimize your chances of getting scammed during an ICO.  Research the team is very important, find out if they are real people or not.  Don't invest everything you have into ICOs, only put a small portion and the rest in well established projects.

icos are good way to invest but there so many scam as well how to recognise the scam icos ?
It was hard to ignore scam ICO. Why ? because in the first place, we can't identify if the specific ICO is scam or genuine. We can't judge their white paper and platform. Because even their white paper and platform is like genuine, there should be possible that the project is a scam. You will only know it at the end of tokensale.
So, instead of ignoring ICO. I will advise you if you are an investors, you should avoid to invest to those new ICO instead invest to trustworthy token like bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, etc...
And if you a bounty hunter and wanting to avoid to work under scammer. It was hard to avoid, yet be happy if the project you've chosen is not scam.

Scammers are inevitable. They are everywhere. It is up to us to be careful at all times. You cannot stay away from them but you can avoid them. How? By simply being smart and alert. Before investing in some coins you should check there white paper. It is the most legit and most visited site to know whether the coins are legit or not. The purpose and the objective of one coins are written all there.

There are ICO really that seems shocking when they turned to be scam out of no where, one minute their good then after the ICO they will just run away as if nothing happens , always be careful. It's better to have companies with background that will not risk their names.

You can check first the campaign manager if it is trusted and reliable first, then check the whitepaper because you will know more about the project and their technology they are offering. You may consider the team behind the project if they have a good background for being successful. In that way, you will lessen the risk and have a great chance of success.

Through reading whitepaper you will notice if the ICO is legitimate and they are on track based on the timeframe or roadmap. Also, you need to know the team structure and/or they willing to communicate regarding the consistent information about the project. There are many ways to know the ICO legitimacy. It depends on you how applies. In my suggestion to get consistent and accurate information about the ICO. Conduct own research and study about it before you engage.

If the team is in your country, you can go directly to their company and know the situation directly. I don't think it is safe to look for information from the Internet. I think the only way to ignore or to know that this ICO is a scam is by researching about the project and the team itself that produce and develop the project. ICObench is one of the good websites to let you know that the ICO is a good one or a bad one and helps you to determine whether it's a scam or not. Whitepaper is also a good one, it can be noticeably that the team is good or not.

If you are talking in respect to the bounty campaigns, then you can simply avoid participating in their campaigns so that later on you are not accused of promoting a ponzi scheme. The real challenge lies in identifying such scam campaigns and that needs an eagle eye vision to be done. Over the time when you gain enough experience, you would automatically learn the art of distinguishing scam from a genuine ico.

In able to recognize scam ICOS and legit ICOS.

If you wanna recognize LEGIT ICO. First is You need to know what it is trying to do and you should be able to say it in one sentence. For ex: XYOnetwork is the first proof-of-location blockchain that enables us to track things whenever it is around the world in real time.

IF you are having a hard time figuring out what is the purpose of a coin THEN it probably is a Scam coin. Or something complicated coin that you don't wanna invest in. Because i believe a good company really needs to make it simple in able for the community to understand immediately what they are trying to do or accomplish the moment you get into their website.

That's it.. Have a nice day and always try to learn something new everyday !

Nowadays its a bit hard to spot the scam ICOs because the people behind it are expert on how to deceive people and on how their project looks like a legit one.

To avoid this to happen be a responsible investor by checking the team behind it, there should be transparency and its an advantage if one of them is a reputable person. Also check their website, read the white paper and their roadmap.

Follow their social accounts to know the latest progress and plan, its also important to know their marketing stategy for their project.  Be careful when investing and dont trust easily by their promise of guaranteed profit.

Very good points. I do agree with you. So many people keep asking me on a regular basis about ICOs and which one is the next big ICO, but I simply tell them to do their own research since it is tough to differentiate between a legit ICO and a scam ICO without proper research which is why research and luck play a crucial role in this scenario. I primarily focus on the whitepaper first and go on to check out other aspects like development team, social media interactions etc before deciding whether to invest or not.

You should check how much they need to raise, is it too big for their project? then the team if they're anonymous you should be cautious, next will be their domain is it a free domain? you can also check their coin if it's already on ethplorer.io or etherscan.io. for now that's the only things that i consider i'm still new in crypto.

It's always a good start to look on to their stats and read their whitepaper for assurance, also check them out on ICO bench for the current report about their platform. Look for good and well posted sites on the thread like bitxoxo with their perfect services for exchange and partners who are currently growing.

I never invested in ICO that have shity website, have less than 15 page of whitepaper and dont have real product, you also need to check company background and the team member as well.

I think its hard to identify ICO scam or not. We know scam after end sale. If we want to identify scam ICO we can reading on their whitepaper or tracking their team but acctually its hard to do. Better join on ICO that have advisor already know in cryptocurrency market

Actually, to avoid or ignore the scam ICO is not as easy as we think. We don't really know the people behind the project directly. It is based on crypto and we don't have the document for it.
However, there are some ways to reduce the scam indication. They are, learning the product of the ICO project that is offered. See and analyze the website and whitepaper including every detail on it. If it is okay, we can continue by looking at the amount of the token supply and its distribution. Never forget about the community. It is also important.

For me, Scam project is still a mystery.
Even though we choose a project carefully using any known parameter that (I myself believe) is a standard parameter to know the quality of a project that aren't scam.
But still from a project that we think it's legit but we were wrong, and so on.

First of all, read the white paper issued by the developers carefully. If it includes the buzzword salads like giving high hopes and ambitions without the explanation as to how to achieve them then you should probably stay away from it. Also do check the code repository of the ICOs to see if there is anything good in it or just thousands of words that mean nothing. Don’t forget to find about the details about the developers like who they are, why they are starting a project, etc.

Everything is relatively simple! You do not need to come into contact with the collars. Do not turn gifts away from strangers. Do not open the craze from unfamiliar organizations and personalities.

The best way to avoid scam ICO is to do as much research as you possibly can to begin with. Figure out if the project they are proposing seems plausible and also is it a straight rip off of somebody else's idea. Read the whitepaper have they put any effort into describing the project and listed all the relevant information or is it just padded up with useless rubbish? Have a look at the background of the individuals heading up the project and the advisors and check they have verifiable profiles and adequate experience.

Do your own research to find satisfying answers to some questions. For example, are the team active? Who is behind the project and how transparent they are? What's their whitepaper says, how they are working to keep promises? What about the community? A good quality ICO should have positive answers.

Yeah, moreover, it is not just about the activeness of the team in the first place, but the first thing to check out most of all is the originality of the team and their past experience. A team with no experience giving promises with no ready made product is obviously not ready to give anything in the long run and with that, I would rather wait to see how the project will develop even if I have to wait for it to be listed on exchange before deciding to hold some at the dip. Like you said as well, their response to answers in the community can also show a team that is ready to deliver.

In order to find a project worthwhile to invest in it you need to spend a lot of time and effort to check everything in detail, and only then can you make any decision. Never hurry to invest somewhere somewhere, because there is a lot of deception

This has been quite asked a lot of times and still hasn't yet closed. People really need to be less greedy in joining ICO campaigns just for the sake of their safety against scam but whatever is done leads to nothingness anyway. Some people will just keep inserting their address and the required KYC information for the sake of bounty with a deep regret in the end.
Read and get a reference, buddy. You haven't yet known the team, and you're still hungry at that amount of stakes being given in the bounty.

One indication that ICO is a scam if the website have no information regarding their team. If the ICO have a very large supply and have an expensive price per token. The whitepaper is also too good to be true.

How to ignore that, just with don't invest in that SCAM ICO or join their SCAM Bounty. Get more knowledge so you will not involved with SCAM ICO. If many people got involved and many people invest their money, and they will be rich by deceiving.

If you dont intend to put in a lot of time into the extensive research of ICOs, stick to the ones that are already "cleared" by many others (and I dont have in mind some random folks with their own agendas, I am thinking of respectable and credible crypto individuals).

Well the only way to escape from being scam on the internet is to be very careful and vigilante and in most cases new ICOs scam is very difficult to notice but if you take your time to read the white paper you will be able to make some good decision from the information you have on the white paper.

try to get into the ICO website and read what the purpose of the project. after that you read and see who the person behind the project and who the project advisors. if ico without team and advisor is 90% a scam. added without a web and whitepaper was marked 99% scam.

Most scam projects can be recognized from the technical moments of white paper, also the project team and what conditions when buying project tokens.

There is no 100% guarantee that you will not get into scams but it helps if you have basic guides. If it's overhyped and it's too good, then you might want to take a step back.

It is not that easy to avoid scam ICOs. For me it is quite hard to identify if that certain ICO is legit or not. But what I am doing is conducting thorough reasearch on their website and reading the whitepaper could help.

Just read the white paper and monitor the Telegram channel.  If you watch it for a few days you can start to get some idea if your dealing with con artists, amateurs and people out of their element.  It takes so much time though.

There are several factors one may probably consider in order to avoid scam ICO'S, however, it is just a measure to minimize the occurrence of scam and not a guarantee. They include reading and understanding the project whitepaper, the project should have a real use case, the team should not be hidden; they should have the relevant expertise, a viable community etc

The best way to avoid getting trapped in the scam ICOs is that way that you overuse the white paper and look rothe sponsors f the company. these sponsors usually confirm the validity of the company and make it a safe ICO to invest in

ICO scam difficult to predict its existence. even for these things alone can avoid is also quite difficult to do. the most important thing is always to do an analysis and team as well as read the whitepaper. It would be quite valuable to know the truth in ICO.

there is a method to find out an ico project that has the potential to be a scam or not have a future, it will be very inappropriate to invest. that's why you must first understand the concept of crypto investment. there are some you must understand, especially in every exploration on white paper and road maps.

You can never be 100% sure that any specific ICO will be good. We only can assume only. However, when I decide to invest in ICO, I prefer to have a look at the team first and then, of course, the backing company (if any)
Then, I search for their social presence and read the whitepaper. Only then I can decide if all of those are positive.
