They aren't 'problems', they are 'features'.  ;)

I'm sure the moderators already have enough to handle without people constantly spamming with new accounts.

Every forum has spammers and its usually the job of admins and mods to sort them out.

These "features" instead make for a bad user experience for some, which also causes confusion.
So the result is that every user is now jailed as a suspected spammer until certain conditions are met.

These stringent "features" are pretty annoying but I guess they're necessary until this forum can get more mods to look out for spammers/hackers/assholes...

It's taking a while, much longer than it says in the FAQ, to get access to posting to other boards, it seems...

This is annoying... But no choice we have to bear with that as it is to prevent spammers. :-\

The other way to do is to change your IP address when posting....
That's is probably the only way around it.

The ten minute wait in subs like /r/politics (which has something to do with statists down-voting you)
is one of the few things I dislike about reddit.

Is this allowed? I know alternative accounts are permitted, but I am not sure about this.

What I find annoying is when I do a search on bitcointalk, and get multiple links to read, check out 1, hit the back button to go back to my search list, it says I am searching too quickly and need to wait 60 seconds.

I'm getting that same error message, on my FIRST post. So something is messed up and I end up just going back to Reddit. Too many bugs preventing me from participating in actual conversation. Please fix this.

Ya I don't like the feature of 360 seconds before you can post but it is to prevent people spamming so it has to be there!!

It's not just posting, per se. I'm pretty sure if you're logging in as a newbie, your initial log-in / registration counts towards this system. So, you need to wait 360 seconds after that to make your first post, for instance.

Only there is bitcoin spam all over the place. So long as it's bitcoin related it's not considered spam??

what can i say? those are the rules. :) if you plan to stick around for more than a day or two, it won't even matter. these rules drastically reduce pretty quickly. i can remember exactly how it works, though. happy posting!  ;D

yeah, i don't know what the rule is for me now, but i can't tell that it's even there. i remember at one point it was like 62 seconds. but now i don't notice it.

I haven't seen the 360 rule second in a while either once I became a member.  Interesting.  I thought i still had it.

i remember seeing it when i first started using these forums. at some point (wasn't long), i never saw them again. so they much get better or go away completely. not sure how it works though, or if it's even public.

I also think the time is unnecessarily long. Even 5 minutes would be an improvement.

It stops the flow of reading and posting. Which is not such a bad thing if it slows down those paid posts  ;D

Maybe some stopspam, honeypot etc API's need to be installed, so that spammers can get canned the minute they are reported. (thats what the button is for)

That's because it is tied to activity.

Logging in and searching counts as well  :)

The 360 rule is activated also on a "search", so when you want to search the forum, do it through Google instead and it will not activate the 360 rule for searches. Eg if you want to search "cgminer problems" search Google instead for "bitcointalk cgminer problems" and your search will be free.

The 360 rule is removed automatically when you have been a member for long enough AND made enough posts. I do not know the exact numbers but if your read the newbie readme there is a lot of information in there.

I am still on the 360 rule, so I used my 6 minutes to make this post - hope you find it helpful!

Yup, actions like signing up, logging in, searching will reset the timer.
So, mysicguy, you can't post when you just logged in, you need to wait 360 seconds.

It'd be nice if the notice said something like this.  I'm usually just here to read, and if I want to reply, then I log in.  Annoying part was how it ate the reply I was trying to post when it came up.

After the recent change on membergroup, theymos edited the newbie readme, and deleted that part. ::)

It's annoying but a good way to stop spammers, hoping it'll reduce for me soon because six minutes is a long time.

I have this problem trying to send a PM to the Middlecoin owner.  I joined to send him/her a msg because the contact link goes to a profile on this site.  But every time I try, I get:

"The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later."

How does one get a message to him/her?  The FAQ actually says you can email, but there is no email address anywhere on the site that I could find.

After logging in your account, wait for 360 seconds before sending your PM.

A timer? If you have a clock, simply wait 6 minutes and post again.
The restriction timer goes down the more active you are. Mine is about 45 seconds I believe with 42 activity.
(360/60=6)

Or you just wait and try again.

I have not seen that message in a very long time and im not even that long here, so it really is a temporal thing.

Well with your 98 activity I'd be surprised if your posting restriction timer was any more than 10-20 seconds.
It's just to prevent massive spam attacks in your case.

What is really annoying is the interaction with another blocker.

First you get blocked by "360 seconds ago". You wait six minutes. Press post again and get "You already posted this".  >:( No I did not.

The attempt to post resets the counter. You need to wait the full 6 minutes before you attempt to post.

well if you said that's not the case, maybe you have few acc on this forum.... and if you post from one acc and then try from another you will get same message....   ::)

when you pass a few levels you'll get away from that rule ;)

just keep on posting and do as you did, one day the rule will disappear because you're no longer a newbie :D

It really isn't that big of a deal, you just need to get used to it.  Also, the limits will be raised as your level increases.  Soon, it will be a distant memory and you'll laugh about it down the road.

You only need to withstand it for at most 2 weeks :)

You're still 5 activity, which means you're clearly not ready to invest any time into your
forum accout - which means you're not gonna get the privileges of the other members. It's a fair system.

Activity (at least on my account) equals posts.  So you could spend all day reading threads and learning, but have a lower activity rating than someone who posts a bunch of 'me too' posts that add nothing to the conversation.

It only equals posts up to 14.
And if you don't post anyways - why care about the restrictions? They're only for posting - not reading.

Every couple of weeks your activity can increase by 14.
So, even if you make 1 000 posts within 24 hours, your increase will not be more than 14 :)

Good point, well, I usually spend all my free time on other forums as Reddit and mostly I read threads , and I rarely write comments. 

But you need to write here from time to time if you want to lift those restrictions.

Keep posting then :) Once every 6 minutes, and you'll get the restriction to lower and lower until you won't notice it. :)

You only need to post once a fortnight to get your full activity points though, providing your post count is higher than your current activity.

That is correct, until you've been online and posted for a while, the restriction keeps going down. I've been here for 2 months and now it's about 27 seconds between posts that I have to wait. Nobody posts more than once per 27 seconds anyway so it's not really a restriction.

Apparently not given the number of queries and threads about it. Admittedly, it is quite confusing at first.

This is basically cause 99% of everyone who joins the forum does NOT read the "Newbie read-me" thread that's
stickied. They rather just join, post all their questions and has someone else answer it for them.

That's true, but the activity still is confusing even if you do read the sticky explaining it.

Oh yeah I agree, I found their formula mind-melting for the first week.

Same for me.  It only started to make sense when I saw it change a couple times. Like most things on this forum, it takes using it for a while for things to make sense.  Then again, that's how it works for pretty much everything. There is always a learning curve.

You need to click on "reply" again, and it`ll work. Unless you are trying to just use the same reply once before.

This IP blocking is not working well given that the IP detection seems to be faulty or the IP detection method is inaccurate.

Are you having the same IP as others (in campus or office for example)?
Also, please note that you need to wait for 360s after login to make your post.

At least it limits some spamming

There is some kid of misunderstanding here..!360 sec wait rule is still there i guess and its not 15posts its 15activity point which is more difficult to achieve not exactly difficult but you have to wait at least 15days +15posts after registration to achieve 15 activity points..!

I believe this features are great and helps to clean up the amount of spam one would have to go through and moderate, the only thing I don't like is the search feature which really should not be limited especially when you are trying to find posts of interest and you don't get it on the first search :) Please MODS release the search from its padlocks :)

You just need to bear with it until you reach 15 activity, and the time will be down to just 75 seconds.

It's not a bug it's just a limitation set for new users so they can not spam. Just keep learning and post while waiting at least 360seconds after each post. Try to be helpful and informative. If you can then report some users who are doing some illegal activity like breaking forum rules and keep earning a good reputation in this forum.
