Title: First we got robbed by mybitcoin and now I got robbed by Bitlaundry.
Post by: incraft3817 on August 04, 2011, 02:50:20 AM
Why are these people are not responding to us? Why do they put up a website and ignored us when we need help with their service? I sent 5 btc through bitlaundry to do a test drive and my coins never arrive at the destination address. I sent Mike Gogulski, the owner of bitlaundry, 4 messages asking if he can help me retrieving my 5btc and this asshole is ignoring me. If you guys keep this up, people will lose interest and will definately sell off the bitcoin value because they can't trust the community of bitcoin. I lost 20 btc from mybitcoin and now another five from bitlaundry. This is bullshit and I might as well cash all of coins out and forget that bitcoin ever exist. Get back to me Mike! I can tell you log in and that is how I know you're ignoring me. Thanks

so... you are expecting a 'money launderer' to be a reputable person?

notice this on the about page:

"Note: If you send less than or equal to the total fee for the scheme you've set up to your one-time address, we'll just keep your Bitcoins! Please note the details carefully."

gee.. that gives one a warm and fuzzy feeling that you are dealing with a straight shooter.

BitLaundry by mikegogulski? I have been following him (unintentionally, lol) for years, since he originally created mephbot for Diablo 2. He's always operated under his real moniker which makes it hard for me to believe he's intentionally stealing from you or other Bitcoin users. Have you tried to contact him directly about this matter? He is a user on these forums, and also lists his instant messenger contact details in his profile.

It does give me a warm feeling about them. Honesty about how the system works is way more than you will ever get from most businessmen.

That is one way to look at it.

I prefer to think that a possible mistake or error on the part of the user when sending BTC to a service should be correctable without
a loss to them. The owner of the website is going to take a percentage of the sent BTC, as well as a transaction(s) fee, and one would
think that they could whip up a few more lines of code to handle this situation in exchange for these fees instead of gleefully putting
in a note saying "we''ll just keep your Bitcoins!" in a certain situation.

But hey that is just me. Maybe they do things differently in the Zeta Reticuli system.

Do you so freely throw around your $USD ?

People need to get it through their heads, it's like cash.

Caveat emptor

Gogulski's a reliable good guy, give him some time.  You didn't get scammed or lose your BTC.

Hi there,

You might consider a bit more patience before going and making yourself look foolish in public in such fashion.

You sent actually sent three messages requesting support, not four, since 2:30am yesterday my time. I was in Vienna from Tuesday evening, arrived home late last night, slept most of today and then finished reading a book I'd borrowed there until bothering to log in.

You actually send 5 BTC to bitcoinlaundry.com, not bitlaundry.com. Same owner, different sites.

The reason you experienced a problem is that you told the site you were sending BTC 5.5, but then only sent BTC 5. The system was waiting for you to complete funding it up to the requested amount.

I've just released your funds, minus commission, in a manual transaction.

Meanwhile, when I came home last night and turned my computer on, several saved browser tabs to the Bitcoin forums were reopened, even though I didn't look at them before going to sleep. That login even would presumably form the basis of the accusation that I was ignoring you.

Peace,
Mike

Yep, that's just you. I look at it as the equivalent of someone dropping change out of their pocket at my restaurant. When I go to sweep up under their table after they've left, I'm not going to feel too compelled to go chase them down in the hopes of returning a few cents.

Maybe I'll consider adding your suggestion in the future. For the moment, though, coddling innumeracy isn't high on my list of priorities.

It would be cooler if Tom Williams was just out hiking in the wilderness and came back and fixed his site.
I've got nothing in mybitcoin - but I don't like to see the pain it's caused.

Offtopic question, what would someone use a website like Bitlaundry for?

Since 2011 new techniques such as CoinJoin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279249.0) have been developed. So far these Trustless (https://www.wpsoftware.net/coinjoin/) mixers (https://sharedcoin.com/) are still centralized, but are probably safer than a random laundry service.
