Swapblocks is a DPOS blockchain platform for automating compliance workflows with permissioned smart contracts. Our codebase is based on Ark's 51 delegate DPOS system. WHY ARK? The blockchain component of swapblocks is being used for transaction lineage and data integrity. We chose ARK because of the modular codebase, pre-built tools and the ability to interact with other blockchains. THE PROBLEM Financial institutions spend exorbitant amounts of money on compliance. Banks alone spend ~$270 billion a year on compliance-related costs. This cost is expected to increase to ~$540 Billion per year by 2022. Financial institutions develop in house database systems and processes to ensure they stay in compliance. When financial institutions trade with each other, each party must record their own versions of the transaction in compliance with regulation as well as their own business rules. SWAPBLOCKS SOLUTION Swapblocks streamlines the compliance process by acting as a neutral bridge between organizations. Documentation can be sent through the network as part of the transaction and the integrity of old documents can be verified by checking against the hash stored on the blockchain. Decentralized money is a great think, but DLT can be applied to all types of use cases. Financial markets is one of the biggest and to date, no other project has articulated a way to manage compliance (particularly cross-border) in a way that is efficient in a changing environment. That's what we're trying to solve and we believe our consortium model is well-suited for the job. It also enables greater price visibility and stability for users as well. After careful research, we've decided to move forward with the project based on the ARK protocol instead of Lisk. This change will allow us to implement necessary functions of the swapblocks protocol faster and more effectively. we have been talking on discord about switching from the planned 101 delegates to arks 51 to decrease block times. If we go with 101 delegates our block times will likely be ~16 seconds, whereas with 51 our block times will be ~8 seconds. This change is more of a preference at this point, considering the ~16 second settlement is millions of times faster than the current settlement time for the types of assets we are building this platform for, so we would like to hear from potential delegates and others in the community to see what they would prefer. Just now seeing this message, I apologize for not getting to you sooner. We got these numbers directly from a consulting firm that handles these types of transactions. Our new focus is on a repurchase agreement platform and we are now working with management at companies that work with these types of transactions so we can accurately pinpoint which processes we're able to replace or eliminate and the exact cost of each step. |
