The market cap fluctuates between each other.  As you know already that the price of bitcoin is so far for ETH to reach. This mostly impossible as of now as you know the bitcoin team is really behind it's constant growth 24/7. ETH team as well is really dedicated seeing it's small contracts success. The small contracts are really in full race mode supporting Ether value grow. ETH is expected to have threefold value by end of this year.

depends, btc value is based on commmunity recognition, that in itself could be sufficient to "power" its dominance for decades. the first and foremost pre-requisite of money is that other people recognise it as such.

In market cap yes maybe, we were very close to a 'flippening" in January. But I don't think the overall market cap is a good metric for measuring the success of impact of a project, its very rudimental and basic and can vastly overstate a coins true value. Having said that it is all we have at the moment but I do think there are some other sites trying to add more relevant factors into the ranking system such and average customer holdings and amount of use.

Thinking of exceeding the father of all cryptocurrency is too far from reality but who knows that might one day ETH could surpass the price gap between these two. But for today and tomorrow it is just only an imagination because there is a lot of factor that Bitcoin price could tremendously than ETH so it is by far from reality.

Replacing bitcoin into its throne would really takes time and consideration on all supporters that will able to decide if they fully switch to Etherium from bitcoin which we do see its an impossible thing.You are right that there might be some chance but would be very slim or doesnt even recognized at all and also basing on the entire cap and entire supply of ETH it would be hard to determine or make it possible on reaching more than on the cap on where bitcoin is on now.

NO it won't cross bitcoin someday and even it will take to eternity.
Bitcoin is the starter of the crypto market and the billions of bucks invested can't be removed.

They both will have tremendous growths and maybe ETH will have a larger % change in its price, but in terms of absolute dollar value - bitcoin will be higher.

99.9% its a no. Ethereum can never overtake bitcoin.  Mean to say that ethereum is only ranking 2 or 3 in terms of marketcap, very far from bitcoins marketcap.

Bitcoin and Ethereum have always been side by side and they support each other but with Bitcoin as its parent. no one knows if one day Ethereum will be able to overtake Bitcoin or not, which is certain that Ethereum is now progressing steadily.

I think it will never happen .. because BTC is the second parent after satoshi is created, BTC will always grow over time, if ETH wants to surpass BTC it will never happen.
if the ETH surpasses BTC all coin systems and the coininess of the coins will be disrupted because BTC is the benchmark of all coins.

Only time can tell especially with regards to technology, who knows bitcoin will die in 5years, because another technology was invented? We cannot tell, though I believe on this two great coin but for me better to buy more eth and btc because for sure it will succeed on time.

I believe Ethereum is a press-inflated bubble that will collapse once people realize it can't do anything remarkable in a real world use scenario that existing technology can't already do with more flexibility and control (like clustered servers)

I have been skimming through most of the comments and I see a majority completely certain Ethereum wont reach bitcoin in value or price. My opinion leans heavier towards ethereum having more value in the form of potential than bitcoin. Of course, bitcoin might carry on being the most popular and will always be the “mother of all cryptocurrencies”, but the way I see things, ethereum has way more forms of applications with its smart contracts. Where do most new crypto tokens/coins build themselves upon? The ethereum blockchain mostly utilising their smart contracts to generate all these new tokens we buy on ICO’s when investing in a new project or even bounty rewards are ethereum Based. I dont know if it will ever reach bitcoin in market price, but the application of ethereum i think spreads further than just being a digital currency with added benfits over fiat. What do you huys think? I like both of them, im finding crypto fascinating with all these ideas popping up and ethereums smart contracts have me bought for many reasons.

You do have a great point there. Being finite certainly adds value to something. Look at the value of fiat, it’s ridiculous having paper money thats controled and regulated, i mean who is stopping the ones that control it literally printing more? Ethereum and Bitcoin cross each other every now and then. Like now Bitcoin and Ethereum is on fire. BTC is currently running at 9,500 US dollar while ETH is at 700 US dollar. And from the looks of it both coins are aggressive to break its resistance. Hodl your horse if this happens it will moon.

For now, There is a big different between price of ETH and BTC. Beside the trading volume is also a big problem as well. Of course I know that ETH price is increasing very quickly but meanwhile BTC is increasing as well.

it would be difficult for eth to cross bitcoin. because as we know all altcoin prices depend on bitcoin prices. if bitcoin decreases then altcoin also decreases and if bitcoin rises then altcoin price also rises. so it is difficult for eth to overtake bitcoin because eth still makes bitcoin as benchmark. if something like this does not change then it is not possible for eth to cross the bitcoin.

I do not accept that ethereum will surpass the bitcoin price. I see the people looking this to happen even I have more amount of etherum than the bitcoin mate. I really do not want that too happen at all mate.

If ETH will cross BTC then there's a chance that other currencies like NEO will arrive to the battle, it will take a couple years for it to be comparable but their TPS will be better, but who knows where ETH will be by the time.

This is most unlikely. Because people invest in BTC not just as a coin. But as a store of value/asset. Where as the price of ETH is heavily depends on the utilization of the coin or how many people really use it (People invest in ETH as a store of value as well. But i think this is much less than BTC) There are many competitors to ETH. ADA,NEO,EOS,XEM,ZIL,Credits,etc therefore the market cap for a platform can always differ. For ETH the real competition or the comparison is not with BTC . but with other platforms.
Therefore i think this is most unlikely to happen coz ETH is not the technologically sound product among other platform

I think that one day Ethereum will overtake bitcoin in capitalization. There is a main reason for this: a lot of real projects have been made on the Ethereum platform, and although bitcoin is digital gold, its real use is difficult because of large commissions and long transactions.

It's possible but only time can tell. I don't want to see bitcoin on the other position aside from being on top but we cannot stop other coins from soaring and aiming to replace bitcoin. It's almost impossible. The beginning of the era of crypto-currencies was put by the BTC, so all the crypto-currencies depend on its price and the situation on the market. So your hypothesis is unlikely.

I never image that, i always think  BTC is the diamond in crypto and it will be in the TOP1 in cryto world. ETH with many advantages which is the typical token in blockchain 2.0 but i think it many be need more time to reach the BTC level or can not reach.

Ethereum is a very good and potential coin, many practical applications are also using ETH but for me to replace Bitcoin is very unlikely even though it is ETH.
