Title: Plans for 8th Annual Bitcoin Pizza Day?
Post by: bitcoinwhoswho on May 04, 2018, 11:47:05 AM
Bitcoin Pizza Day is Tuesday May 22! Was it a Dominos pizza or Papa Johns that was purchased?

Anyone planning an event in NYC? I'm looking for any pizza place that accepts direct bitcoin payments.

Funny that you mention that, I actually have a little tradition where I buy a pizza with Bitcoin on that day.
I've been able to order food online with Bitcoin for a couple of years now (takeaway.com).

I always thought that it would be fun if other people started doing that as well, also to give some support to local businesses that accept Bitcoin.

There are no announcement yet if there will be an organized event during that date. I am also waiting for some activities on that date and I do hope there will be free pizza. Hope there will be some event in our country so that I can participate. Hope there will be an announcement of some kind. Also I suggest that we should ask a major pizza join to sponsor the event. Just kidding but I am awaiting for the event.

I haven’t heard something about this that some pizza day is going to be celebrate on 22 may and if this is so then I must be very interested in this that if someone is giving be a pizza in exchange of my bitcoins and I guess this is very cool because now a days we all are fighting for the centralisation of bitcoin so that any how it becomes the central currency and people can use it as more of transactions and if this is going to happen then it will be a great milestone for all bitcoinera and a very good news too.

Damn I'd have to make it to NYC if they did. This will be my first official Pizza day as an active member of the crypto community; I may have to try and get something started locally.

I'm hoping this is just a lost in translation moment, as I couldn't understand most of what you were saying. I don't think that anyone in the community here is fighting for the "centralisation of bitcoin".

I am not surprised at all that you try and support the local businesses, I enjoy hearing about the celebrations that exist with the older BTC adopters/enthusiasts

Thanks for sharing this website with us. Service is not available in my country, but it is in neighbouring country so I will definitely use this next time I travel.
By the way, you can find many Bitcoin Pizza Day events on Facebook, maybe there's even one in your country.

If the you think it is worth celebrating, imagine how this poor guy must feel who gave up 10,000 bitcoins! He will remember it every day for the rest of this life, and on this particular day he will be reminded of it even more :D

I always forget about this date. I prefer to celebrate the release date of Bitcoin whitepaper created by satoshi and the date of the first blocked mined. Many users might actually don't know these dates. Pizza bought by BTC back then must have been something incredible which convinced other people that Bitcoin might be actually worth something. The person who bought that pizza must be feeling proud and bad at the same time. It's the most expensive pizza he had ever eaten. 8th May might be a good excuse to buy a pizza. Thanks for bringing it up.

Thanks for the reminder!

It was Papa John's, two Papa John's pizzas for 10,000BTC...wild times! Imagine back when transactions anchored in curiosity happened in the value of tens of thousands of bitcoin, it's incredible how far we've come!

Anyone planning an event in NYC? I'm looking for any pizza place that accepts direct bitcoin payments.

I won't be in NYC but here are few other ideas for those in the US and around the world.

(1) In the UK there is a Papa John's chain accepting Bitcoin - people in the UK should order pizza from this location, paying with Bitcoin of course. Here's a link to the article: http://bitcoinist.com/uk-papa-johns-accepts-bitcoin-potentially-expensive-pizza-experience/ (http://bitcoinist.com/uk-papa-johns-accepts-bitcoin-potentially-expensive-pizza-experience/)

(2) In the US, Canada, Mexico, Hondurus, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Spain, Ireland, France, Denmark, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Russia, Poland, India, China, and multiple Southeast Asia and Carribbean contures or other areas where Papa John's operates - Call your local Papa John's order a pizza, ask to pay for it in Bitcoin, and then pay for it in whatever currency they accept!

If we do this all over the world we'll generate great publicity for Bitcoin and Papa John's.

No pizza shops... yet!

But this year, in Cleveland, the celebration will be at Scratch in Independence, Ohio.  This is the only greater Cleveland restaurant accepting bitcoin at the moment!

I'll be there for breakfast and lunch from 9-1 ish.

Scratch

I usually spend this day with buying my self something over the internet through altcoins. Food is still not available in my area for crypto so i do this as a tradition for myself.

Where are you at? Do you have any businesses that you think would be good targets to accept bitcoin? I'd be happy to give them a call and try to help them get connected with the tools they need to be able to accomplish this.

Well, I'm in a good mood and have never celebrated the day so here is my "contribution". If anyone wants to send me pizza for Bitcoin today, I'll take three large ones with an address in PM, for 0.01 BTC (they are worth less than half that at the moment). I can only accept one offer and will update this post when I do... I can't eat more than 3 unfortunately!

No escrow, you're just gonna have to trust me like people trusted Laszlo 8 years ago ;)

OK! You're getting a PM from me, we can take our time to get things done over forum and PM. I neglected to mention a max time but am aware most of the world is half a day ahead of me. A bit late to do it right now (way past dinner here) but I'll make sure you get your Bitcoin for pizza, provided all goes well of course. On to our own small piece of history ;)

So our time-zones are making delaying the celebrations a bit.. :P Waiting for some inputs. It remains to be seen what hurdles my country's "awesome" currency laws are going to throw up.
By the way, the site i found even accepts BTC. How cool is that? I am sure i'll have a last resort to do this.. 8)

You would rather celebrate the release date of Bitcoin whitepaper made by satoshi and the date that was first blocked. Many users may actually not know this date. The pizza bought by Bitcoin at that time must be something extraordinary that convinces others that Bitcoin might really be worthwhile. You always thought it would be nice if others started doing that too, to lend support to local businesses that received Bitcoin.

Ya right . We'd rather celebrate the existence of bitcoin rather than any other unimportant events because if bitcoin wAsnt invented we cant now be a little wealthy right now. However i guess these kind of celebration is only for big bitcoin investors or users and it isnt really recomended for most of the people who aint earning that much ( including me ). Id rather celebrate my own birthday  because that is more important than bitcoin or any other events.

Yet i would be happy and most of the users here will be happy if someone can host a special giveaway in order to celebrate some of the bitcoins memorable events.

Hello Pinoyden and Kasemin. (And others who want to parrot them to increase their post count).

22 May is the day when 2 Pizzas were bought for 10K BTC (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.msg1195#msg1195). This is almost 85 Milllion USD today. If it was not for people like laszlo, bitcoin would never be where it is today.
Laszlo was the guy who first tried mining with a GPU (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133.msg1103#msg1103). Do you realize the kind of work he would have put into it? Sure he was an experienced programmer but realize that people like him took it upon themselves to work on this technology (without the greed for reward) and make it popular. This is what enables millions like you & me today, to "earn a little" (https://earn.com/).

Nothing is perfect but in this cherished past, there was a passion, honesty, hardwork and earnestness behind these actions. Something which is impossible to come by, now that money is involved. People remember that and want to celebrate that. This is as important a day as any can be.

So, for a moment, please leave this pettiness behind. Stop trying to evoke sympathy by self-pitying or begging and for heaven's sake, >:( just for once, be glad and thankful you are here. Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day! Spend what you can.

And today, 3 pizzas were bought and enjoyed for 1 million satoshi ;) Thank you Manish, the selections were delicious and the Bitcoin well spent. Maybe one day, this will be worth millions too, eh?

Guys like Laszlo did every bit for our ecosystem as any developer ever did. He was one of the first to give "real world" value to this thing we take for granted, and I like to think that every transaction, spend, purchase we make for things we need in our daily lives plays a role in how people will view Bitcoin years from now.

This was so cool. I don't have any place around that would accept BTC for a Pizza. Yet, I am a proud Pizza-bitcoiner now having bought it for you. It felt awesome. Was so much better than filling out the CC info, Name, Address, waiting for an OTP. Thanks for the opportunity..

Maybe bitcoiners should start a tradition of buying stuff for each other with on festivals and celebrations. With Bitcoin of course.

I have a pact with a friend of mine and we contribute to buy stuff for each other on birthdays. Stuff that you wouldn't buy by yourself because they feel like an unnecessary expense. For example, I love DC comics but they cost like 3000 INR for a hardcover (Injustice-Full Vol). So she bought it for me on my birthday. She had her eyes on some costly "Friends" sitcom memorabilia but it felt too much of a waste to buy it herself, so I gifted that.  Its a neat way for us to stay in touch with those old habits as we grow up and leave the little things behind. I hope this thread and our exchange gives the good people reading this some ideas. :)

EDIT: A Million Satoshi received!!

I really doubt it, you must be living a pretty sad life if you're constantly looking back on stuff like that and get upset about it.
Should I be getting mad every day because I didn't save 10 BTC that I bought for 100 dollars each? It's just a pure waste of time, no-one could have known it would get this big.

It's very easy to say 'he should have done this or that' years after the fact, with the knowledge you now have.

Pics are still in the same location for anyone interested.  I didn't trade bitcoins for the child - she's my daughter, Amy.  Only the pizza was traded.

Well said buwaytress - ur right one day the amount spend might turn out to be a million worth and i would love to see that wish becoming true - I feel Btc will soon spike to atleast 60K in next one year which is almost 10times from current levels - we need a greater change in this world in terms of financials
