You would rather celebrate the release date of Bitcoin whitepaper made by satoshi and the date that was first blocked. Many users may actually not know this date. The pizza bought by Bitcoin at that time must be something extraordinary that convinces others that Bitcoin might really be worthwhile. You always thought it would be nice if others started doing that too, to lend support to local businesses that received Bitcoin.

Ya right . We'd rather celebrate the existence of bitcoin rather than any other unimportant events because if bitcoin wAsnt invented we cant now be a little wealthy right now. However i guess these kind of celebration is only for big bitcoin investors or users and it isnt really recomended for most of the people who aint earning that much ( including me ). Id rather celebrate my own birthday  because that is more important than bitcoin or any other events.

Yet i would be happy and most of the users here will be happy if someone can host a special giveaway in order to celebrate some of the bitcoins memorable events.

Hello Pinoyden and Kasemin. (And others who want to parrot them to increase their post count).

22 May is the day when 2 Pizzas were bought for 10K BTC. This is almost 85 Milllion USD today. If it was not for people like laszlo, bitcoin would never be where it is today.
Laszlo was the guy who first tried mining with a GPU. Do you realize the kind of work he would have put into it? Sure he was an experienced programmer but realize that people like him took it upon themselves to work on this technology (without the greed for reward) and make it popular. This is what enables millions like you & me today, to "earn a little".

Nothing is perfect but in this cherished past, there was a passion, honesty, hardwork and earnestness behind these actions. Something which is impossible to come by, now that money is involved. People remember that and want to celebrate that. This is as important a day as any can be.

So, for a moment, please leave this pettiness behind. Stop trying to evoke sympathy by self-pitying or begging and for heaven's sake, Angry just for once, be glad and thankful you are here. Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day! Spend what you can.

And today, 3 pizzas were bought and enjoyed for 1 million satoshi Wink Thank you Manish, the selections were delicious and the Bitcoin well spent. Maybe one day, this will be worth millions too, eh?

Guys like Laszlo did every bit for our ecosystem as any developer ever did. He was one of the first to give "real world" value to this thing we take for granted, and I like to think that every transaction, spend, purchase we make for things we need in our daily lives plays a role in how people will view Bitcoin years from now.

This was so cool. I don't have any place around that would accept BTC for a Pizza. Yet, I am a proud Pizza-bitcoiner now having bought it for you. It felt awesome. Was so much better than filling out the CC info, Name, Address, waiting for an OTP. Thanks for the opportunity..

Maybe bitcoiners should start a tradition of buying stuff for each other with on festivals and celebrations. With Bitcoin of course.

I have a pact with a friend of mine and we contribute to buy stuff for each other on birthdays. Stuff that you wouldn't buy by yourself because they feel like an unnecessary expense. For example, I love DC comics but they cost like 3000 INR for a hardcover (Injustice-Full Vol). So she bought it for me on my birthday. She had her eyes on some costly "Friends" sitcom memorabilia but it felt too much of a waste to buy it herself, so I gifted that.  Its a neat way for us to stay in touch with those old habits as we grow up and leave the little things behind. I hope this thread and our exchange gives the good people reading this some ideas. Smiley

EDIT: A Million Satoshi received!!

Bitcoin Pizza Day is Tuesday May 22! Was it a Dominos pizza or Papa Johns that was purchased?

Anyone planning an event in NYC? I'm looking for any pizza place that accepts direct bitcoin payments.

LoL, I didn't know that this pizza stuff had already become a tradition. Unfortunatelly I've discovered it on May 23rd, now I'll have to wait one year to celebrate my first Bitcoin Pizza Day Cheesy

I really doubt it, you must be living a pretty sad life if you're constantly looking back on stuff like that and get upset about it.
Should I be getting mad every day because I didn't save 10 BTC that I bought for 100 dollars each? It's just a pure waste of time, no-one could have known it would get this big.

It's very easy to say 'he should have done this or that' years after the fact, with the knowledge you now have.

PEARLS BEFORE SWINES:  Undecided
Pics are still in the same location for anyone interested.  I didn't trade bitcoins for the child - she's my daughter, Amy.  Only the pizza was traded.

Well said buwaytress - ur right one day the amount spend might turn out to be a million worth and i would love to see that wish becoming true - I feel Btc will soon spike to atleast 60K in next one year which is almost 10times from current levels - we need a greater change in this world in terms of financials

Pizza bought by BTC back then must have been something incredible which convinced other people that Bitcoin might be actually worth something. The person who bought that pizza must be feeling proud and bad at the same time
