not too bad, haha. and now i moved my main rig to my office, it'll go down again. Title: Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... Post by: mike85123 on August 11, 2011, 01:55:54 AM My first full month of mining... 5,992 kWh for a total cost of $741.14.

That's like $0.12369 per kWh. from 96 to 161. not too bad, haha. and now i moved my main rig to my office, it'll go down again. I would do the same... However, finding a way to properly cool 57 GPU's is a bit problematic at work. Getting power for them is no issue (I have access to a ton of 120V 30A circuits). Cooling them... entirely different story. Must be nice where you live, my bill which used to be ~$20/mo runs around $580/mo now. For ~14 GPUs :( Wow. In general, you're a pretty "Green" person consumption wise for electricity. I'd love to have a $20/monthly bill for electricity! Mine went from $150 to $350. I don't have 57 GPU's either though. :P So assuming we have similar electric rates, you probably had roughly the same or lower electric bill. $350 isn't too bad... But wait, there's more ;D :D That's approximately what I made exchanging currency on tradehill. You know, buy low, sell high, that kinda thing :P So I guess I'm mining for free ;D hehehe. I'm in southern cali where they really like to pull out the rape stick. :o My last bill was just north of $400 when it's normally $100 Max. The kicker is that $120 of the bill is a "penalty" which goes to pay poor peoples electric bills. This is also with no ac contributing to bill, just fans. More to come, Peace. The bill is what I was expecting based on my energy use measurements. My rate is $0.155 / kWh. Post by: relmeas on August 15, 2011, 04:42:10 AM so what's the problem? according to my calculations, 57 GPU should make at least $1600 per month at current difficulty and $10 per btc so you should be fine.

Excellent idea mate, that's what I've been doing too. Keep a good amount of cash and BTC in your exchange account so you can trade in and out of the swings (they've been happening at the end and beginning of the week for the most part, usually at off-hours if you live in the US due to the foreign BTC markets). Just reading up and following the technical indicators along with some practice will help you make some well-educated guesses which should help pay off your electric bill easier ;D Title: Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... I'd imagine the pacific northwest has the lowest retail power rates in the US. Post by: Zor on October 09, 2011, 02:06:48 AM If I go over 1k kWh my rate is .079 per kWh. (big difference from Edison in California, here the more you use, the more you save)
If I go under 1k kWh my rate is .098 per kWh. So yea, if I was at 950 kWh for the month or so and billing was about to cycle it would actually pay me to find some hair dryers and get them running. I can shave off about an extra cent if I wired up my garage. I live in Appalachia / South Atlantic. Title: Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... Post by: wndrbr3d on October 09, 2011, 03:16:01 AM I'm in TX, USA and I'm at $0.091/khw flat rate. I only have two mining rigs running (2x 6870, 2x5830) and my electric bill has only been about $50 higher the last couple months.

I'm guessing it's a marginal rate: The lower rate is only for kWhr over the first 1k. The first 1k are always at the higher rate. Post by: bronan on October 17, 2011, 03:24:22 PM For me is weird to read the big differences in electricity prices, today i heard that usa and chile seems to have different prices when temps go down or up.
In the netherlands its all year round the same price. We pay a monthly fee in my case 244,83 euro In october the fun BIG total comes in where you finally can see what you actually used. Which in most cases mean pay alot more. I guess ill beat the 8200 kwh from last year again, if it goes above 10k we get a nice bonus penalty on the bill. Title: Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... Post by: TurboK on October 18, 2011, 12:17:47 AM Hehe. Makes me glad I pay a monthly average, with yearly counting for the balance difference. I'm kinda afraid of the bill I'm getting in next february. But, it shouldn't be too different from what I got last year, when I run md5 cracking and used a 500w plasma tv as my main monitor for months.

No matter how much electricity I use in a month (over 500 kWh), I still pay the same amount for the electricity. Well, here's this month's bill: (First 500 times rate + the extra fees + the usage after 500 (3730 was total usage) + rate + fees) + the tax and service fee. (500 * (0.085 + 0.0098)) + (((3730 - 500) * (0.072 + 0.0098)) + 16.52 + 6.25) Title: Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... Even if it's a crazy price I'm going to keep mining since my landlord pays my power bill.
Title: Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... Post by: sadpandatech on October 24, 2011, 09:09:04 PM Mine went up 14x! lol. u serious? Mine actually went down $50 from same month last year. Running 4x5830 extremely OC'd all month. My power definetly does not get cheaper at my house if I use more. Here in FL its pretty consistent throughout the state for residential at .09 -.13 per KWh. Mine is at the lower end of that. Which reminds me, the nuclear plant I was getting supplied by in Windermere was still over .10 KWh. I keep anything substantialy power consuming at a business location that is on a tiered plan that I am usually in the .08713 bracket for. Not really sure what the other brackets are under 10k KWh and over 20k KWh since I have been in the same pricing for several years now. I still think no matter what aynones costs are we're all a bunch of anti-hippies with all this juice consumption.... |
