It depends on how much money will you use. If you have small amount of money to use then you need to buy few coins (like 2-3 will do) then if you gain some money, invest it on another coin. You can buy a coin one at a time if you want. I recommend to buy like 4-6 or 7 coins max for long term maybe. That is what my mentors said so I will say it to you also :)

There is no limitation on your portfolio, you can add as much assets you can. As a in the above quote it is upto you, you decide upon the amount you have to make a perfect portfolio. If you go through the portfolio of different users, almost everyone has got bitcoin and ethereum within it, apart from that based on the research they hold other assets.

Investing in crypto well depends on you on how many coins you can diversify. Just invest that has a great project 3-4 coins is good. As long you can manage to monitor all that is okay.

It depends how much money you're working with.  Ideally I'd say you want to work with around 10+ coins at least at a time.  But if running 10 or more tokens means you're only putting $20 in each then maybe consolidate that into 3 or 4 maximum.  Working with smaller amounts will get you eaten alive by fees.  Diversifying is very very important though.  Where one coin is dropping another is probably rising somewhere.  As the saying goes don't put all your eggs in one basket.

It depends on how much money you will use. If you have a little money to use, then you need to buy some coins (like 2-5 will do) then if you earn money, invest in another coin. You can buy coins one by one if you want and better than the results you develop again do not immediately taken.

Buy more cheap coins as many as you can there is no limitation in investment in cryptocurrency so its up to you if how many different coins you will add in your portfolio and from my own experience buy as many coins which is valued atleast $0.02 as the now it will eventually increase the value if it is a good and trusted project and team.

I think you can choose 4-5 coins according to the money you have, if you have a lot of money, you can buy Eth, Monero, Litecoin, Dash, if you have a little money, you can choose cheap coin, you can buy Gems, ADA or Stellar Lumens.

cryptocurrency market is still small and heavily influenced by Bitcoin, so it is better to add the following to your portfolio:

  1. Bitcoin: As I mentioned above
  2. ETH: most of the tokes depend on it so it will have value in the future.
  3. Monero or Dash: High privacy.

The rest of the cryptocurrencies are just duplicate versions of the above list, useful in the case of short investments but will lose their value mostly

If you are not yet feeling confident that you will succeed for having so many alts then why don't you start first in two: btc and eth. Those are two of the most trusted crypto and both reliable also. It seems that you are still a beginner so just set these as your practice ground for now and continue to expand your portfolio once you already familiarize the field you've chosen. Good luck. :)

I myself started with just 1, that is the ever king of cryptos BTC. Then as i move on from it, i go to ETH. After a while i went in to NEO and LTE. Now, I'm purchasing coins that allows me to have 100 shares for only a buck. I've veen very successful in some but most of it flopped. It's all about reading the market. But i think 4-5 strong coins is a good way to start.

Title: Re: Portfolio
Post by: bob123 on May 09, 2018, 08:55:17 AM
This depends on quite some factors.
1) How much money do you have available? Is it enough to split? Or just a small starting investment?
2) What is your plan? Do you want to make short-term profits or rather long-term ?
3) Did you already read into projects? Choose those you have trust in. Those who seem to be legit and useful.

You should try to balance your whole portfolio.
Choose 1 or 2 low risk / low reward coins for stability, a few mid risk/reward coins and a few high risk / high reward coins (potential moonshots).
How exactly you balance those out, depends on you. For a more 'conserative' portfolio choose 50% low risk/reward, 35% mid risk/reward and 15% high risk/reward coins.

If you like the risk, suggest you buy some cheap cryptocurrency, then wait for the rise!

If you are a conservative investor, you can buy some BTC,ETH.LTC, etc. These COINS will grow slowly!

Title: Re: Portfolio

Beyond Bitcoin, you don't really need to diversify. Altcoins still follow Bitcoin's growth for the most part, so diversifying with them doesn't really work. This, of course assumes that by diversification, you mean spreading assets around to mitigate risks. The way things are going, every altcoin will die before Bitcoin does, so "diversification" actually raises your risk.

If you want to grow your portfolio though, everything is off the table. As I've said, the markets generally follow Bitcoin's price movement, but a few coins here and there could do better than it in short bursts. Since you're essentially gambling at this point, there's no ideal number -- go for things that are doing well or are projected to do well, etc.

You should have more than one coin, cause it's not wise to put all your investment in a single coin. But there is no recommended number of coins or any specific coins that you should/must have in your crypto currency account. If you have the time and money, I suggest you to have 3 Altcoins along with Bitcoins, means 4 coins in total.

Crypto is really new and there are no crypto investment theories created yet. However, one can learn from general investment theory. According to some old corporate finance textbooks I read in the past, professional investors should create a portfolio of investments that have limited inter-correlation.

This means that if you have 4 investments, ideally, if one investment goes south, the other 3 do not follow the same pattern.
Hence, you want a low correlation between those assets.  For example, if you invest in real estate and suddenly the economy turns into recession and it's difficult to sell your property, its good if you have an investment which is not affected by the same industry forces, such as a bond that is given out by the government of a country.

From an upside perspective, sure, it's possible to diversify in different user cases of cryptos; you can invest in security tokens (verge), payment tokens (litecoin), platform tokens (ethereum, neo). The returns among these different user cases could differ which helps to compensate if one of these tokens doesn't generate optimal returns.

However, from an overall risk management perspective, its very difficult to select different coins that do not correlate. I have done several analysis and found a very strong correlation of several coins and bitcoin prices (over 60%, often between 80-90%). Hence, if you buy a mixed portfolio of different tokens, although you can differentiate based on type of crypto (like security tokens, payment tokens, platform tokens), all tokens are still very correlated with bitcoin. So if bitcoin goes bearish, your entire portfolio will be affected negatively.

It's therefore smart to take a broader perspective; if you invest in crypto, you can diversify among different user cases for the tokens, but make sure you also invest a part of your other assets into non-crypto related asset classes (real estate, bonds, stocks, etc.). In addition, it's important you are aware of your own risk appetite. If you are a risk taker, you can apply less diversification in your crypto portfolio. If you want to minimize your crypto risk, you can consider investing only in bitcoin. In the near future, there probably will be bitcoin ETFs, which could lower the risk even more. ETFs are synthetic investment products that follow the price of for example bitcoin. So you can make profit if bitcoin goes up without you requiring to buy actual bitcoins so you don't need to worry about being hacked etc. It's not like a future which has a fixed end date, so it's more flexible as well.

There are no specific and exact numbers of coins that will be put on diversification.

It will depend on how will you managed all coins on your portfolio. Why limit yourself in a specific number of coins if you know to yourself that you can properly managed it and you afford it.

You know yourself better than ours so analyzed what you think you can managed. It's all in your own hands to decide.

If you keep lot of coins in your portfolio then it will become diffifcult for you to manage them. Only pick the specific coins which are giving returns fast and which are having high liquidity in market so if you get high price then you should be able to sell them.

An eternal question of the "right" diversification. The right diversification for you must comply with your risk appetite and your prior research. I personally warn everybody against "overdiversification". Putting your money into too many different cryptocurrencies will efectively make your portfolio copy the whole market performance (and your research was utter waste of time). Pick some cherries and plan your exit strategy.  8)

It depends on how much capital you are going to spend and how much you are willing to risk. But ideally more than 2 asset of coins should be recommended. Also, everything depends on the coin you are investing into if you are going to profit or not. Before you diversify your portfolio, you should research about the project you are going to invest to because a lot of coins out there are basically scams and only few known are going to make you a profit. I suggest you take Ethereum as a necessity in your portfolio.

Any coin you like. If you like many projects, keep them. But there are a few things to consider:
1) if amount of money is low, keep few coins. Obviously, it makes no sense to keep 50 coins if you have $100 to invest. Over time fees can rise and it will be expensive to sell coins back, move them to exchange back and forth, etc.
2) if amount of time you have is low, keep fewer coins. The same thing here. Makes no sense to keep 50 coins if you have just an hour or two a day to dedicate to crypto. You should always check news amd updates for everything in your portfolio.

So I think, on average, if you have a few hours and not a very big amount to invest, 10 coins is enough.

The number of cryptocurrencies you want to have in your portfolio totally depends on you, the choices of the coin you want, as well as your budget. The thing about all these is that you cannot always have it all, so it is best to have what you can handle and monitor all at once, otherwise with the complexity of the market you will be trying hard trying to move out from those coins when things are not really going well except if you are holding for the long term.

If you have more money and more knowledge in Crypto platform you should maintain more than 10 also possible but you don't know the Crypto strategy must gain some knowledge then you should try 3 to 4 coins because we must analyse the right platform and pick the best time then monitor our portfolio it is little complicated in beginners so I recommend to start two coin this will make good profit.

3 or 4 cryptos is little to have as investment. Get as many coins as you can lay your hands on but make sure you aren't buying worthless coins. You never can tell the coin that could give you much profit in the future. That's what I practice.

No there isn't, everything depends on your overall goal. If you're investing, especially a big amount of money - choose 2-3 coins, that you consider as worthy and make a long-term investment, that would be the most profitable way. If you want to trade you can do it with up to 10 coins and buy/sell frequently, whenever it's a good time, but take into account that it will take a lot of your time.

I would include in your portfolio:

1. A position in the top 20 from coin market cap
2. Additional ICO type coins
3. A mix of Proof of stake and proof of work coins even if you buy both on an exchange
4. A choice of some masternode coins that may interest you.  You can look at my signature block to see the masternode I like:  Criptoreal

Limit yourself to the best of successful projects. Also, split your portfolio into 3-4 main divisions. For example, Bitcoin - Altcoin - ICO and Cash.
So do not miss the opportunities and less chance of financial loss

3 to 4 coins in your portfolio is a good start. Just make sure you did a thorough research and analysis on them before buying. I am sure that along the way, your coins in your portfolio will increase. It happened to me. I stick to bitcoin then added some top altcoins. But later on I seemed to get addicted trying to research and collect more coins later on.

If I were you I won't diversify. Let's say should you put $500 in your portfolio and you don't really want to trade full time (like a day trader), then I recommend to you to go all in BTC alone. Buy on dip and HODL long term.

keeping your portfolios tight is advisable. What I mean from 'tight' is you have enough time for managing the portfolio, it is too risky to have a lot of portfolios since it can cause a trouble for the investments because of you didn't aware fully and quickly the development process of the altcoins.

And it depends also on how long he would be holding the coin on hes folio, because if that money is only a excess on hes pocket and he want to put for much longer keeping even if the capital is smaller he can still diversify it for 5-6 coins.

What he need to do is research those slow moving coins now but has a greates future potentially.i can give hi, a example like trade.io coins,it only cost him 3 coins per 1$ so this means if he has $100 he can avail 300 coins, and if after 5 years this coin grow upto 10-100$ imagine how much he can profit, that's only for example and he can choose as many coins as he can

My suggestion for long-term portfolio is to keep 4 to 5 coins and for short-term portfolio just keep 2-3 cryptos. Keeping your portfolio limited gets you the most beneficial situation. This is proven effective based on my experience 3 years experience in trading.

Most of the suggestions here are around 4-5 coins and I guess that's a decent number that you can start with your portfolio. I don't have that much either but I'm mostly invested more to bitcoin. I have seen a trader that has a not so interesting portfolio but a lot of coins dedicated on it, somewhere around 20 altcoins which is really I don't know what to say if I'll be amazed or I'll just zip my lips. Focus only to the coins that you trust and you know will give you fortune in the future.

Most newbie writes about getting Bitcon and Ethereum. But, I think it is too late. Instead of waiting them you can create a portfolio. So it is dangerous to go all in 1 coin and instead of going all in 1 coin you can diversify your coin between alternative ones and action will reduce risks significantly.

Depending on the amount of investment to be made this question it is possible to give various answers. For example, a robust capital is required for a wide variety of portfolios, and a wide variety of portfolio management will also be difficult. Creating a low portfolio with low capital will not be profitable in the short term. For that reason you should determine this number in the direction of your own will and do not over-diversify while creating diversity in your portfolio.

Yes, the money you have to spread across board, how much you wish to invest per coin is some of the things that would give you the idea of what to do.

Everyone have their own way of doing things generally, and the ocean is so big that you will have a lot of good coins to pick from, but the thing here is that, no one knows the future and it is best to deal with what you can handle per coin and as long as you have done research to know the future potential of what you are holding, that is what is important mostly.

It all depends on your ambitions and desire to earn. Every day there are more and more promising projects that can make hundreds or thousands of percent profit in one year. If you hold 2 or 3 coins, it is very likely that they may not be very successful, unlike others. If you have capital, then distribute it as much as possible in more coins. Personally I have about 70 coins. And this is not the limit, as the appearance of interesting projects, I replenish my portfolio.

The whole market generally is extremely volatile and there is nothing we all can do about it. However, the thing here is that it is best to at least put your funds in what you can monitor and for an investor that is looking at the long term, just 2 of these coins may not really give the vibes you want with respect to profit but for sustainability in the long term.

Just few coins can really give this like you have said, with BTC and ETH being the top on the list and the others are just there somehow begging for recognition except for being pumped and dumped at the slightest chance investors get.

That is a good start if you already have four coins, diversification is still much better than putting all your money into one investment, since once that single coin drops, all your your investment goes down, but if you diversified, once one coin drops value, the others can compensate, but don't just rely on four, explore all your options,  make sure you also diversify into types of coins, there are POW coins, which are being mined, this coins a great for trading, as i'd experienced it, still keep on buying bitcoin, then also look for POS coins, these coins keeps on staking on your wallet, from the original number of your coins, once it stakes, you will receive rewards of the coin and be added to your wallet, just make sure that the coins you have is a great project so in the long run, the value will grow, also invest in masternodes, in this way you can help the devs in coin creation and in return you will be given rewards. A sample of POW coins are bitcoin and ethereum, for POS coins, some laso have masternodes like digiwage and can also give you a positive passive income.

Before you spend money on buying digital coins, you need to know how risky such investment results, that can be expected of them, in what currency it is more profitable to invest. And before this I recommend to study material that is cryptocurrency, as successful investment in it. Later, all this will solve the correctness of your choice, quantity and variety of coins. It is important to use in choosing profitable cryptocurrency, which doesn't lead you to losses. And you can choose only evaluating it on multiple factors by studying the crypto-box. This for you no one will make.

To be honest, it differs from person to person but generally, I would recommend holding at least 20 different options in the portfolio having not more than 5% weight for each option. Thus even in the worst case scenario would not lose much of his capital due to diversification in a high number of options. I have seen people doing it in the case of stocks too. Again, if the investor is confident about his investment decision then 5 options are enough for him but diversifying in a high quantity reduces the risk.

There is really no law that states the number nor amount of cryptocurrency that one should own. Having and owning cryptocurrency is by choose and the amount you should have is also by choose too. What matters is if you have the capital to invest in any cryptocurrency that you want to invest. Another important thing is that quality matters more than quantity. Make sure you pick the best coins that really worth it.

How many cryptos should Ihave in my portfolio? Are there one recommended diversification ( like having 3 or 4 coins) ?

There's no comprehensive, one size fits all kind of answer. Personally, I'm with Warren Buffett on the matter of diversification who is known by saying that if you have a harem of 40 women, you never get to know any of them. To me, diversification for the sake of diversification is meaningless, which will turn out detrimental to your capital in the end. In essence, when diversifying your portfolio, you should know what you are doing. This is not possible unless you have an in-depth, insightful knowledge and understanding of every asset you are going to add to your investment stack (which is what Buffett talks about).

Otherwise you will likely see the opposite of what you are looking for, and instead of increasing your profits and decreasing your risks, you will actually intensify your exposure to market quirks and twists.

It all depends on various factors. I mean you can't say that this much of coins are okay it depends on the current situation in the market. Like if you see all the coins have an upward tendency you might want to diversify in many options to gain as much as you can while if you think that market is too bearish people often tend to keep only one or two options in hand. While if the market is settled you go for somewhere in betweek. But ideally and normally I feel 4 investments are absolutely accurate depending you have a normal trading amount in your hand. Infact even most of exchanges have option of investing directly 25% of your total sum in any trade which makes it even easier.

The ideal crypto-portfolio is one that follow's Pareto's law applied to allocation of capital, namely, one that is at least 80% of exposure to Bitcoin.

So:

-80% BTC
-20% a couple of good altcoins

Of course, "good altcoins" is a very limited amount, as you should. Mindless diversification will get you nowhere, specially when most investors are playing with their mom's weekly wage.

If you want to be serious about this, you need a decent capital to start with, and put it into Bitcoin.

If you want to be more extreme, research altcoins and assume the added risk.

Personally, a good altcoin speculation in my book is Stakenet. Once ETH goes PoS, I predict a pump. Their TPoS technology could pump the price and get it into new all time highs, it's pretty bottomed at around 3k-4k sats.

But always remember that BTC is the only long term sane hold.

I think that you shouldn't focus so much on differentiating your crypto portfolio as you should on differentiating in general. What I mean by that is that BTC is leading the way and other coins are following, especially the main ones like ETH or LTC. If BTC goes up the rest will do as well, so it doesn't matter that much if you own 20% BTC, 20% LTC and so on, as long as you have BTC. The risk is similar for all of them and even bigger the less popular coins you're getting into.

How many cryptos should Ihave in my portfolio? Are there one recommended diversification ( like having 3 or 4 coins) ?

3 or 4 is a small number, but it depends on how many funds you have available to invest. The good thing about diversification is that altcoins are notoriously hard to predict when it comes to prices, so keeping a wide range from stable coins (NEO, LISK) to riskier high potential coins (WAGERR, XSPEC) will maximise the chance for gains

Is there any limit? What purpose are you making a portfolio? Use as you want, the money you invested in different currencies is your portfolio. That can be made with tow/three coins or even with more than twenty coins.
There is no issues I believe in sharing one’s portfolio or you can say the collection of coins. Here are many crypto experts on the forum and they can guide him or her in a better way regarding the collection of coins. There are certain coins that are worth holding for long time but others are just wastage of time. They could be used for trading and other such activities.

it depends on how much money you have but you can have more than 4 coins in your portfolio at the same time especially if you can get it at the lowest price so you don't have to do a fast sell. I have more than 10 coins in my account and I waiting for the coin to get increase higher so I can sell it and I can wait for a long time from now. maybe it is better to have just 5 coins so you won't have a problem to check each coin and it does not take too long to analyze each coin.

3-4 coins isn't bad if you'll diversify and will build up your own portfolio.
There are traders that has more than 10 coins but the quantity of each coin they are holding isn't so great. I'll choose to have few choice of coins and have large quantity each of it.
Today once again I understand that we must keep cash. With cash, investors can show the ability to buy. Through such declines, profit opportunities are assessed.
We are in crypto market and we know that there's no place for cash in here unless you want to sell your coin to cash.
Cash value doesn't move.

basically there are no requirements or specific numbers on how many kinds of crypto you have in your portfolio, ad long as you can manage it freely and handle it, there is no such things as rules to how many you will manage. You must also be aware on your investments and must keep tabs on what is happening in your portfolio.

That is a good start if you already have four coins, diversification is still much better than putting all your money into one investment, since once that single coin drops, all your your investment goes down, but if you diversified, once one coin drops value, the others can compensate

Sorry bro, but in real life it doesn't work like that. When Bitcoin falls, all decent altcoins go down along with it. The ones which don't just happen to be in the pump phase of the pump and dump routine. These are shitcoins, and adding them to your portfolio is a sure way to lose money in the long run unless you are an insider. True diversification is required if you want to maximize your profits, but if you want to preserve wealth and minimize risks (which is what you speak about), you should stick to a single asset, most reliable and safe one. In the vast majority of cases diversification add risks, not takes them, as many people often falsely assume.

There are advantages to having either a small or a large number of coins in your portfolio. Theoretically having a larger number of coins, as long as they are in diversified industries, spreads your risk exposure somewhat. But having a smaller number of coins (presuming you started with the same amount to invest), means that you have the potential to achieve higher returns if they move upwards, but obviously increases your exposure to bigger losses too. I think between 12-15 coins is a decent number to get the best of both worlds, but there is no 'right' number, everyone will have their own preferences.

Will,in my own perception there 's is no accurate amount of crypto coins have in your wallet or your portfolio as long as you have a certain amount to invest and you trade it for a right currency,i thinks thats enough for that your capital will grow in the trading investment, but if you are capable to sustain much more crypto coins in your portfolio is much better because the more investment you have trade the more profit that you have been achieve in your wallet.

Yeah, no limitation at all as you can decide to have as much as you want to have, based on your budget and based on how you perceive the market you want to hold. However, it is always good to normally cut them short to the best minimum possible based on what you can monitor as an investor. Thank God for the apps like blockfolio anyway that can easily help one to monitor what is being held for the long term, so at the end, the decision is for the individual in question to take.

There is not a particular number of coins that you should hold to diversify your portfolio, it will depend entirely on what kind of investor you are and how much effort are you willing to put to monitor your portfolio, if you are not afraid to get rid of your coins after some months and you are willing to watch the market every day for a few hours then you could have 25 to 50 coins in your portfolio, but if you are only going to check the market occasionally and if you want to hold your coins for more than a year then having less than 10 coins could be ideal for you.

I agree with you but I'm even more strict about it. I always have Bitcoin and 1 maybe 2 altcoins. I know that I don't have time to watch altcoin charts every day and they are so volatile that in a day or two you can lose 50% if you're unlucky. That's why I only choose the coins that I believe in and don't try to push my luck with new ones.
If you're not in it full time pick 3 coins, and hold the ones you believe in and watch only charts of 1 that you're uncertain about and be ready to sell.

If we talk about how much the cryptocurrency should enter into the portfolio, the more, the wider the diversification. However, having an excessive number of coins in a portfolio is not entirely convenient, because more time and effort will be spent tracking and analyzing trends on them. In the portfolio, it is advisable to carry out a balancing. To transfer money from one coin to another, reacting to the market situation.

There is nothing like limit to how many coins you have on your portfolio. It depends on how much you have and what you’re able to invest. You don’t need anyone to tell you how many to invest on or how much you need to put in and there is no limitation. Just like me, I started with Bitcoin in 2014 and have diversified my portfolio to various other cryptocurrencies just like Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin (I’m thinking of quiting LTC), Zcash, Bitcoin Cash (might quit after year 2018); I actually got Bitcoin Cash after the fork in 2017, and that’s the same way I got Bitcoin Gold, but I have withdrawn everything I had in Bitcoin Gold. I know someone that is investing in about 25 coins, and I think that’s way to much, because he’s still a newbie in this. But as I said, you’re free to diversify as much as you can.

Having money isn’t big problem than how to use that money, this is biggest issue at all. We all may have seen some people who had money with them but they never had any proper sense of utilizing that money. They somehow had made big mistakes and just ruined all that money. So here in this case as well, you need to diversify what you have. Divide and invest in different domains.

Others can take yours as reference but not a suggestion even that's only an opinion because remember that it's still way better to make a list out of our own preferences, observations and analysis because not all coins suggested by others can be acquired by majority especially those who are in the bracket of average traders.

Focusing only in ethereum and in bitcoin will give you peace of mind however is not going to give to you the best profits that you could get out of this market, this is why many people prefer to invest in other altcoins as well so the performance of their portfolios gets improved by investing in new projects with a lot of potential but as you said detecting such projects can be very difficult because even a good project can fail if it doesn't have the support of the community, something that happens more often than people would like to recognize.

I believe that the portfolio must have bitcoin and ethereum. The rest of the coins can be taken from the top ten cryptocurrencies. Another approach is to distribute the funds between the first 50 coins in equal proportions.

Absolutely! You need to diversify your crypto assets. But be careful, do not invest without doing some research first.
I suggest you take a look top crypto assets at coinmarketcap.

Yeah, I know. I believe everyone has those crypto assets (BITCOIN & ETHEREUM)
Because many exchanges using that coin for the main pair. If may add, I suggest adding NEO to your portfolio.

Well, it looks like no one is safe in the cryptocurrency world today (or ever), even the holders of Bitcoin and Ethereum as the last events have clearly shown. I'd rather say (as I always say) that dumb holding is a losing strategy in the long run. It worked while Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies along with it had been rising but as soon as it stopped rising, which was inevitable to happen and already happened, your only option is active and continuous trading (or giving up and going home). Yes, Bitcoin had been rising for a long time to deceive you into believing in permanent growth, but the end is always the same. People are stubborn to accept this truth unless they eventually burn their own fingers to the bone. To put it simply, in speculative markets you can live only if you are an active trader, otherwise you get eaten some day and left holding the bag.

There is no limit to how many cryptocurrencies you can invest on. Right now I have my money invested in about 13 cryptocurrencies and they are really paying off. I have BTC, ETH, Ripple, Litecoin (might quit), Zcash, Monero and lots of other cryptocurrencies. I even know someone that has his portfolio diversified to more than twenty cryptocurrencies. So there is no limit, if you can be able to invest in so many, then you can do so.

I think its more safe to divide our investment in several coin/token. Dividing our investment can reducing risk from big loss when one coin fall on their project. As we know, crypto as investment is very risky and its better if we can minimizing our risk
Investments should also choose for themselves and certain plans. Get to know the market and look at the potential coin to maintain. Divide the property to have more opportunities. Be sure to multiply them many times and need a certain stop. Do not be too greedy.

maybe if you are a new people on trading, you can have less than 5 coins in your portfolio and I think it will not difficult to manage the 5 coins. but if you know cryptocurrency at least one year experience, maybe you can have more than 10 coins and you don't have any problem to handle and manage the coins. I know some of my friends have more than 15-20 coins in their portfolio and they can trade with easily and some of them don't trade but they are the holder for a long time. so it depends on how much your balance so you can diversify the coins in your portfolio, I suggest to you don't take too many coins in your portfolio so you will easy to check one by one the coins.

It woud depend on how much you are willing to invest. I suggest starting with just one then build your portfolio from there from the earnings they get. I myself started with just 1 early this year and now i have 4. Now if you have alot of money to spread around then i think 5 solid coins will be enough to keep track on.

I think if you browse different user portfolios, almost everyone gets bitcoin and ethereum in it, but based on their research they have other assets.
There are no limits on your portfolio, you can add as many assets as you can. As in the above quote it is up to you, you decide what amount you have to make a perfect portfolio.

You can collect as much as you want as long as you have the means to acquire them. Anyway, you dont just have to buy them all but you can also earn some of them in exchange for your labor. One thing good i like with crypto is it is not controlled by anyone, not limited and not owned by any institution or government so i can do what I want, collect as much as I want and experiment with every coin i have. I can only say you gotta be free and explore.

Right. As long as you have enough money on hand, then you can buy all the potential coins you think. After all,its you who will manage them all in a right manner.Just don't forget to buy more on bitcoin and ethereum because they are still the topmost crypto coins and you will still gain huge profits from them in the right time.

I advise you to divide your portfolio into 33% which means having a maximum of 3 coins. If you will have large numbers of hold coins, definitely you cannot handle it or there is a tendency that you will lose. If you are just starting, you can set your target profits to the coins you have and buy another set of coins so that, you can hold it again.

it really depends on how much money you have in your pocket or wallet, may be big or small, as long as it does not belong to your savings, you should invest money that you are willing to take risk, because crypto trading is not that unstable in terms of price because of the volatility of its market price, some even invest their money that came from loan, if you are well enough to trade and knows the ins and out, you can invest as much as you can, but it is still best to invest money that you are willing to loose in case of a dump.

I remember owning almost 50 several altcoins when the market is alive but now I'm just holding more or less than 15 altcoins. I myself keep 10 coins at the moment but I'm heavily invested on top crypto currencies and just a few alt coins that I'm keeping an eye on. I have never held more than 30 coins actually but sometimes, I usually go a little above if I see some market opportunities and some chances of huge gains. At the end of it all, it actually depends on how well you are going to go with your investment and all depends on your pocket a whole lot too.

I have always noticed that as long as you have your list of the coins you know have potential and you are at least able to eliminate based on some higher level of prospect which you see and you also have enough money to be able to spread the risk across board, you can decide to go for as many as you can handle at once, but usually it takes monitoring the progress of a coin to be able to do right as an investor and if you are holding just too much, the ability to do this may reduce.

There is no limit of cryptocurrencies that you should put in your portfolio as long as you have the money to invest on them. The more diverse your portfolio becomes, the bigger the chances of getting a very good profit out from it too. One thing you should keep in mind is to hold whenever the market crashes.

There is no limit to how many cryptocurrencies you can buy, you are free to buy as much as you want. The only thing you should have in mind is that more coins means more money, so if you are going to buy a lot of coins you really need to have the money to do so.

If you don’t have much money then it will be best if you just buy a few coins. And I will recommend Bitcoin, XMR, Ripple, Ethereum, NEO, Litecoin and BCH. I think these are the ones that are trending in the market now, so you choose any of them.

Considering you're planning to hold this for long term then 15 coins is still good but if it's either for short to mid term then you'll just be messing your own life. Diversion is essential but too much coins isn't profitable anymore.

Even if you have so much in your pocket, it is always advisable to go with the number of cryptocurrencies you know you can handle at once. Sure, for long term investors, the ability to hold as many as possible will always be there anyway as long as they believe in the long term of the project they are holding which is something that is necessary to know before even investing into any project.

In this case, they can as well just build up their portfolio; allocate certain percentage of resources to this portfolio as the case may be. So at the end, it just personally depends on you and for sure, your pocket will also determine a whole lot as well.

Just depends on your investment capital. It is better not to invest a huge capital in a single coin. Rather, invest in more than one coin as it decreases the chances of loss and increase the profit returns as well. Most of the coins are just pump abd dump coins, so you should be careful about which coin to invest in. Do consider the coin's undergoing projects, market capital and also its latest statistics before investing in the coin of your choice. In my opinion, you can invest in 4-5 coins at a max at the same time.

That's a lot of altcoins you've got, I'd rather have 5 altcoins that has good community and has a better market cap than having a lot of it but having low quantity on my bag. Diversifying too much isn't also so good that it makes your investing power little to the proper coins that possibly can give you better returns in the future.

It is up to you to decide the number of different coins you can have with your portfolio depending on factors such as your estimated returns per each coin, risk associated with that coin, your total investment amount etc.
I prefer diversification rather than holding just one type of cryptocurrency as it reduce the risk. But that doesn't mean you should have all coins in your portfolio. It could  be the best coins which cover different aspects.

I usually only keep few coins in my portfolio because of two reasons. One I do not like getting spread to thin because I do not see it getting any better when you get to too many coins, there are few ones that gets pumped but usually if the market goes up everything goes up and when market goes down everything goes down as well so getting spread to thin makes no sense to me.

Second reason and definetly the biggest reason is that I do not have too much invesment amount and without the proper funds there is no need to invest 10 dollar into 200 thing when you can invest 200 into 10 things. So right now, I have most of my money tied at bitcoin, a bit on ethereum and used to have a ton of investment into nano but it worths really low now and now I am investing into spectrecoin hoping it would go up really high with the new v3 wallet and mobile app.

Well, portfolio matters a lot because if you have investment in a long term like Bitcoin then you will have a lot of time to handle other sources as well which can be of short term and is better if you have short term as well as a long term investment source like Bitcoin. Bitcoin has a lot of potential to give you profit but yes, it is not easy to handle it and you will need to have a grasp over crypto knowledge.

I think in a realistic portfolio, bitcoin is very feasible to be included, because based on existing data from year to year the price of bitcoin is always increasing so that when we HODL for the long term, the profits are very high.

There is not a right answer for that question, diversification without a doubt is very important if you are investing a huge amount of money in this market, but diversification is only a way to get to your goal, your goal should be to make money out of this market and if you can make money with one coin or with one hundred then it makes no difference, try to find a way to make money in which you feel comfortable.

As an example I am the kind of person that only holds a few coins because that is what I find to be effective for me, but you can look around in the forum and you will see people that are holding hundreds of coins and they are making a lot of money that way, so find something that suits you regardless of what other people are doing.

Though aside from the fact that you're not a trader if you don't have any bitcoin on your portfolio.

Tbh, diversifying your portfolio to 10 or more tokens or coins isn't necessary as you surely can't keep track on those and you'll just surely missing out their good pump and dump. Why diversify to a lot when you can just have some 2 or 3, just choose those strongest one and profit will come to you.

Having about Three to four cryptocurrencies is good, you can even have more than that if you’re able to manage them. There are lots of food coins in the market: Bitcoin (BTC) Ethereum (ETH) Stellar (XLM) Ripple (XRP) Ethereum Classic (ETC) NEO, BITCOIN CASH, Litecoin (LTC), Monero (XRM) Zcash (ZEC) and a lot more of them more than I can count. You can buy them and keep in your wallet and wait for the market to rise.

It all depends from you, if you participate in bounties and airdrops then you will have a huge number of different tokens, I would advise to get as many tokens from different companies as possible, because some tokens will never be at any exchange and they will just die and they will not bring you any income, but other tokens will be able to create at least some profit for you. Well, if you are engaged in investments, then if you will have just one token in your portfolio, the most important thing is that this token must already trading on the exchanges.

Now you should only invest in 1-2 altcoins. Too much investment at this time will bring you very high risk. Because our market is constantly changing and your altcoins can lose up to 50% of the market value. So you should only invest in XRP, it's pretty stable and it's going to grow again.

the question is how much you can afford to invest before you ask on how many cryptocurrency you can handle, remember that investing in crypto is a really hard task because not all coins come to succeed instead most of them are dying specially in this market now.

For me five different coins or token is enough for diversification

There is no exact formula or rule concerning the amount of cryptocurrency or portfolio that you should hold in order to be successful. The world of crypto presents usc with many potential digital currency for  you to choose from, I believe is is up to you to choose the kind of cryptocurrencies you want to keep in your portfolio.

Should spend part of the money holding the coin in the top 10 because when the decline of the market, the top coin will fall more slowly than the other altcoin. It will be enough time to consider the situation.

At most 10 cryptocurrency might be enough for your portfolio. Among the 10 coins, you shoud there invested in coins that are very low in prices, but with great potentials. Because with these coins, you can have huge percent profit that might reach 100 times or even more 1000 times your capital. The stable coins, however, would only give assurance for your total investments.

What idea you are giving is correct but if you want the assured profit then stable coins and who are in crypto market from long will give you assured profit let it be low but you wont be in loss. But you can take risk and invest 20 or 30% of you investment in low value coins which are having great potentials to grow as taking risk will only give your huge profit.

I never believe there is a cap on the number of tokens in ones portfolio as long as they are good projects. The main thing is the balancing, how do one balance between Big cap projects and small cap project, what I observes is that big cap projects gives stablity more than small cap but the potential for growth is higher in small cap

It's completely up to you how many coins you want in your portfolio. Some crypto's can be seen as ''high risk/high reward'' or ''Low risk/low reward''. Most time low market cap coins are considered high risk/high reward, and crypto's with a high market cap considered low risk/low reward. It just depends how much money you want to make/are willing to lose. Always do your own research and only invest what you can afford to lose!

When I started newly I didn’t bother about diversification. I just bought a lot of Bitcoins and stored them. I never wanted to take the risk of investing in altcoins then cause I don’t know much about them, and by the way Bitcoin is safest and best coin you buy anytime.

I started to practice diversification last year after a lot of people were talking about it, but there is still no much need for it since other coins will likely move same direction with Bitcoin.
Even if altcoins move in the same direction as bitcoin that doesn't mean that the magnitude of the movement is the same, altcoins tend to move faster than bitcoin so when the price of bitcoin goes up altcoins gain more valued than bitcoin during that very same time and the opposite is true as well, when the price of bitcoin begins to go down most altcoins crash faster and harder than bitcoin if you are a skilled trader you can take advantage of that difference in the movements of bitcoin and altcoins.

You can make money by switching from altcoins to bitcoin depending on how the market is moving, this is difficult but there are many traders that are using that strategy to earn good profits.

How many cryptos should Ihave in my portfolio? Are there one recommended diversification ( like having 3 or 4 coins) ?

First, you gotta make a decision to invest in very promising and tested cryptos no matter how much it costs you. For instance, you can choose Bitcoin being the most dominant and the base currency of cryptos. Add more Ethereum, Ripple, and EOS too for these cryptos can follow bitcoin's path.
And I hope you must advice this man that the most trusted and efficient crypto is bitcoin. Nothing else than this propounding crypto in current market. We need to promote bitcoin.

Currently, there's too much blood on the streets and many good projects' tokens are witnessing values and market caps nobody ever have thought of, because after the huge juicy pump in the amount of total crypto market cap during the beginning of 2018, it is unthinkable for anyone to see such low prices currently. XTZ, XLM, ZRX, SS, QNT, HAND, etc. are few good projects that I believe which could easily gain a lot once BTC stabilizes or starts gaining back in value.

The more diversified your portfolio is, the more risky it will be to invest your money, as if you did not put all your eggs in one basket. The scale of diversification depends on your capital.

No matter how much you tend to advice people on that, they always do not seem to realize that, and they still do whatever they please in the long run anyway. The issue with a lot of people is that they feel they have missed the bitcoin train and they felt altcoin will end up giving to them what they have missed in bitcoin.

However, it is better they realize that altcoins are just distractions for most people entering the space newly and if they are not careful, they will just realize that unless they know how to handle themselves in the alt space to look for projects with a quality product which is hard to find, then there is no way there will be anything for them.
with the number of coins that are indeed we are required to choose good coins for infestation, but if there are still doubts, there are some coins which are certainly the safest, as mentioned above, these coins can affect the development of other coins

It depends on you. but after 10 it is going to be hard to follow each of them fundamentally and also technically. I am investing 6 cryptos at the moment. I also don't recommend you to invest 1-2. Never put all eggs at the same basket.

There are quite a lot of different coins in my portfolio. I earned some of them in airdrops and didn't have time to sell, now they are worth nothing. Therefore, I advise you to take a closer look at the top-5, and also to have two veterans - btc and eth.

It all depends on how much money you have! If you take $ 1000, then you can take 5 cryptocurrency at $ 200

How many is dependent  on what you can afford pertime, I will advice you research well about the first 100 coins on coinmarket and decide base on capacity, you grow along, invest what you can afford to loss, Invest in project with an existing product and competent team member with good past track record.

I would not say having too much is a bad idea as that would depend on how well you are able to handle all of them at once. In most cases anyway, we all know basically that the more you can invest in as long as you know what you are investing in, the chances of you to at least diversify and get something across board in the long run.

For most altcoins, it is glaring they seem to have a season and using them to increase my bitcoin folio over the years has been a thing for me. What is just important with your portfolio is to know you are holding potential coins; you can handle and manage yourself when it comes to risk, and you have the knowledge to keep making good decisions.

We have so many good and promising tokens with innovative projects that warrant us to have more than 200 coins in our portfolio. There is no day I check coinmarketcap that one coin among the highest gainers is not among coin in my portfolio.

I left in my crypto portfolio 10 of the most promising coins, in my opinion. Among them are eth, bitcoin, neo, ada and a few more popular ones. It doesn't make sense to keep a lot of coins, it is better to focus on the best ten.

An amount between 6 to 10 coins seems like the sweet spot, if you follow fewer coins like that then you are probably missing in some of the action the market is giving but if you follow more than that then you will probably need to make trading your main activity and many do not have the time to do that because they have jobs and other responsibilities to attend, besides if you like to follow the news of the coins in which you have invested it  is going to be very difficult if you are following more than 10 coins.

However that does not mean that you need to follow the same coins all the time, you can change the coins you are following depending in your criteria, for example if a coin that you were following losses too much volume you could drop it for a new coin with more volume.

At the moment I have a small amount of bitcoin and etherium, and this is all that I have at the moment, I have not invested money in any new projects, maybe the fact was that I was very busy moving to a new place of residence and i have my main job, therefore - I didn’t have a time for this, but I don’t consider that I missed something, because the people who invested at the beginning of this year feel very bad.
