Sh1337 was originally going to sell me a $250 AMAZON GC for 20 BTC. He agreed that i send him 10 BTC 1st and he send the code, and i'll send the rest.

Upon receipt of the 1st 10 BTC, he has decided that i was not trustworthy enough, and he agreed to refund the 10 btc.

I have asked him to send it back to address: 16tmn2yFX6QMJwacmyCJ1WG2hQT8pp63uq

Awaiting refund.

greyed out entry (unconfirmed) has NOT shown up in my wallet yet (shows up immediately for me every transaction), every block has been downloaded. Will update soon.

Yup, Still has not attached to a block. Still no greyed out entry in my wallet. Trader is a scammer. Beware!

Lesson learned, i gave trader benefit of the doubt, he provided no feedbacks, did not prove that he had the amazon gc, and i still trusted him. It's my own fault.

IF Sh1337 can come out and prove that he's innocent, then i am sorry. And i truly hope i am wrong.

You are wrong. And I fear that you were the one trying to scam me. I feel bad that I can't do the trade with you, send you your bitcoins back, and now you call me a scammer?

You are a very bad businessman, sir.

everyone can check the address that you "allegedly" sent the btc to. There's no sign of it.

BTC was not sent by Sh1337. It will show up at Bitcoin Charts (http://www.bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/) shortly after send and then in Block Explorer (http://blockexplorer.com/address/16tmn2yFX6QMJwacmyCJ1WG2hQT8pp63uq) after being included in a block.

for info : - he took loan from IBB and paid back 1.50

it's an easy way to build rep. He promised he returned the btc to the address already, but it's a public address and everyone can see it's not there.

Title: Re: Sh1337 is a scammer, beware!
Post by: dalamchops on August 21, 2011, 07:39:41 PM
yes, he also changed his name while trying to get the loan from me so got suspicious

sometimes it does take long time, from 45mins to around 3 hours for payment to arrive.

it should show up in the bitcoin charts.

it doesnt seem that he sent payment.

it could take time to show confirmation, but it hasn't shown up greyed out (uncofirm) in my wallet yet. Thx for your support.

I hope you are not accusing me of anything fraudulent. I have not scammed any money whatsoever. I am new to bitcoins, and only understand how the sending and use of addresses works. I know that I recieved 10 BTC and I know that I sent the 10 BTC back to the address he gave me.

Everyone can see that you didn't send the btc back. I've publicly announced the address that you need to send the BTC back to, you said you did it, but EVERYONE can see that you did not.

Sh1337, where is your proof you sent back the BTC? this is pretty much the equivalent of you shoplifting and getting caught, and you swear that you payed for it yet you don't have the receipt and there's no record of the transaction on the store's computer. why don't you take a screenshot of your bitcoin client to show that you received the 10 BTC, and also sent it back to the same address. this is something easy to do, but if you're unable to do it, you just confirmed yourself a scammer.

Sh1337, I apologize that these guys are jumping to conclusions. Here's what I'd like you to do:

First, start your client with the -debug command line option. Then, double-click the transaction you sent to 16tmn2yFX6QMJwacmyCJ1WG2hQT8pp63uq

Post the information here.

I sent the 10 BTC back to the address he gave me.

That very well could be the problem right there.  Were the coins sent to the address provided in the forum post or were they "sent back" to the address where they appeared to have been sent from?  If the original payment was sent using an ewallet provider, then "returning" the funds to that address are instead sent to an address owned by the ewallet, and will not likely go to the right account.

If this is what happened, that too will be verifiable in the blockchain.  So the question is, exactly was the address you used when sending.

[Edited to clarify.]

he has refused to shown prove that he has even sent the coins. I actually sent the coins from my mtgox account to his mtgox account, (in which the transfer does not show up on the block chain, and i had to have mtgox support verified to that he has the BTCs). That's why i chose to put up my wallet's address publicly and ask him to transfer to it so everyone can see that he's a scam.

You're both scammers, and probably the same person, just trying to make one of your accounts look like a victim to get some rep in the community for a bigger scam. *Yawn* Too easy.

System of a down? Really?  ::)

I'm obviously joking.

And i would relentlessly defend my reputation that i've built up the last few years.

Tasteless maybe, but there was a joke in that last comment of mine. Highlight the small text, copy and paste it somewhere else and you'll see that.  ;)

lol i see it now. Honestly if i were the guy and i was accused (provided innocence). I'd fight to the very end to defend my rep, but u can tell he's not even trying.

Hey now, innocent until proven guilty! Don't give into a police state: if a store's "alarm" goes off and they want to check your receipt, just keep walking. If they try to detain you, they must either accuse you of theft (with actual proof, not lack thereof!) or the person stopping you can himself be arrested. Let's not let Bitcoin's public transaction log be an excuse to switch to guilty-until-proven-innocent.

Edit: Yes, I have personally proceeded to leave a Walmart after their "alarm" went off, and refused to comply with Sam's Club's "policy" of checking receipts of everyone who leaves. The latter case, they actually put up a little argument, but I had cold stuff so I didn't have time to wait for police to arrest the manager. So in case you're worried about trying this, know that at least I have tested it in practice and not had any problems as a result.

What do you mean "he is not trying to defend himself"? I have done all that I can do. Everyone on this forum is pointing fingers at me, calling me a scammer. Why should I defend myself? I no longer feel welcome here. And I cannot open any "bitcoin client" and run a command, the only bitcoin interaction I've ever had was via Mt. Gox.

Now, dalamchops is sending me PMs threatening to get the police involved. Go ahead, call the cops, I'll give you my full address and full name. The police won't even knock at my door knowing that my retired chief of police grandfather and 13-year local police serving father reside there.

Upon receipt of the 1st 10 BTC, he has decided that i was not trustworthy enough, and he agreed to refund the 10 btc.
Really? Gee, that is believable.  ::)

Lesson learned. Sending 10BTC through the internet is worse than sending $110 through the mail. You will never even know where this guy lives.

Why these people even bother to stick around is beyond me. Scurry off and create a new account and scam someone else. Maybe he is stalling to avoid an IP ban.

That is rather quite odd, I will admit, but merely coincidental. But we will wait for mods to check IPs.

Now that's interesting... However, I believe that any transfer to an existing MtGox Bitcoin address from MtGox would do the same, although I'd have to test it myself. In fact, hold on while I do test it.

I have sent 1 BTC to 1Jo7oEXLzVq3h6Jq9FFZUnGaRT4te5zVdN from a MtGox account that I made, to another MtGox account I made. So far, I see no transaction on the Bitcoin network.

I have to ask that you submit additional evidence.

That is public information. the address i told him to send the BTC to is address to my wallet, not MT GOX, I did that because i was suspicious and that if he was to send it (WHICH HE CLAIMS HE DID), it would show up publicly for everyone to see.

Ladies and gentlemen, this whole thing was just a big misunderstanding, combined with a MtGox bug. What Sh1337 did was send the money to his own MtGox Bitcoin address, thinking that it was the address dalamchops sent from (he didn't see dalamchops' post until after he sent it), and it was removed from the account but never re-added.

Sh1337, contact MtGox and report this bug and ask that it be re-credited to your account. Once that is done, send the Bitcoins to the address dalamchops posted.

No, I'm not misinterpreting it. MtGox shows the address that was deposited to, not the address the funds came from. It'd be dangerous if they did.

Just send a support request to MtGox, and they'll re-credit your account. Again, all you did was send the coins to yourself.
It seemed like if his screen shot was accurate, he sent it back to my mtgox account instead of my wallet.
Again, that is incorrect. In fact, if you look at the very thread where you reported the "pending" issue to MagicalTux, you'll see that the address in the screen shot and the address you posted are the same.

Gah, fuck. What am I to do now? I have to log off and go with my family for the day... God damnit... So I guess I fucked up? Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. Sorry for my profane language. But now neither of us have bitcoins, and you're out 10. I'm sorry man. I'm sure Mt. Gox will take care of this.

LOL i actually took a second look and realized that. I think mt.gox will take care of this. But it's out of my control. Hopefully Sh1337 will be motivated enough to take care of this...

Mods - check Sh1337's IP with laydum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34897.0).
Theymos just got back to me: They are not a match, which is what I suspected.

I hope this gets worked out. I like to think that most of the bitcoin traders on these forums are trustworthy.

Natalie, Aug-23 11:11 (JST):

Hi Calvin,

It appears that he did not send it to the address 1N3gnFVWRyN7wwUkUVUwLf7PE6gYTvf2Th as in the photo. It was sent to a different address.

Thanks,

So he is a confirmed scammer? Wasn't sure if mistakes were made or bugs, that's why I was just sitting back and watching the thread.

Why can't you just track the BTC with block explorer and end this?

Like I said in other scamming threads, these scumbags need to fall off the face of the earth.

he pm'ed me asking me for help and saying they are calling him scammer

He can help himself by paying back what he stole from me. I've done maybe 10 transactions with other members since this became public and no one else has any issues with trusting me DESPITE of this ongoing issue.

for me he had 2 low of a post count so 2 high of a risk personally for me to trade with. I stick to a few golden rules that stop me from getting scammed

only deal with respected forum members. use escrow where ever I can. And whatever other rules I make up at the time

thanks for the advice. I usually do my homework before trading with somoene. I made a 1 time exception (he said he was in desperate need of btc LOL!) because he seemed genuine and i got screwed over.

Yea its just a shame so many people are so fast to rip the kind hearted people off. for me words mean nothing its all about actions. Not long after I started on the forums I Got a 3btc loan. I was surprised that people where so quick to give it out. I had the BTC in gox but at the time well Gox was down with the big hack.(it was to buy a video card).

Have noticed a lot more scammers around this last month tho.

I hate these threads! Really mess you think people are overly trusting with people they don't know. Also, post count isn't really an indication of trust at all. Look at LEON, he had 100+ and was a scammer and tecshare started out in his forst post offering his service and he isn't a scammer. I think people should start off with smaller trades. not 10 btc to a stranger.

Yeah, it really is too bad there are so many scammers - it just makes things harder for legitimate traders.

With all due respect, there are not any more or less scammers than there always have been; people in the Bitcoin community are making the mistake of treating it like monopoly money due to the ease of transactions. In a world of idiots absolutely determined to part ways with their money with anyone who claims they're 'in a hurry', I have real trouble forming any kind of sympathy.

Was everyone here born yesterday? Did no one here ever deal with eBay/Paypal scammers for years leading up to Bitcoin? Why is everyone constantly 'surprised'? And on the other hand, why when people try to start a service or protocol to stop this kind of scamming does everyone jump to conclusions and call it a scam?

This community is extremely 'diverse' to say the least.

It's my 1st time getting scammed, been trading for at least 5 years now... Most people generally only learn a lesson the hard way.

Recommend using Heatware (http://www.heatware.com/) or if they claim to have eBay or any other type of feedback, verify it by messaging them through it.

Sorry about your loss. Learned the hard way myself, long ago. Be safe.

thanks for the tips, not really asking for sympathy. Just trying to make sure everyone will remember this guy, he went far and beyond to make the moderators and me believed him.

You're damn right, if you fake a screenshot, do it good. I always make it so they can't see it was edited in any way! Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have said that in public ;D
