Title: [WTS] 3-IN-ONE Multi-Purpose oil
Post by: naypalm on August 21, 2011, 07:00:52 AM
Hello everyone, I have been involved with bitcoins since last June and believe me, I've learned quite a bit about alternative currencies, exchange markets and of course trading goods and services. But the most important thing that I have learned is that you must Use More Lube Next Time (http://www.bitcoinminingaccidents.com/?p=418).

About 6 days into mining bitcoins, I was out of town with family and my PSU fan completely seized up thus frying my Antec PSU. You can read more on it over at bitcoinaccidents.com (http://www.bitcoinminingaccidents.com/?p=418). But my main message and point to this post is to convince you, my fellow miners, to practice preventative maintenance on your mining rig in order to minimize downtime thus making bitcoin that much stronger.

Just 10 minutes of downtime and one drop of oil in each fan reservoir every 3-6 months is all you need to prevent hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars of damage from overheating. I unfortunately did not think of oiling my PSU fan and was forced to shut down my operation for 12 hours to replace my PSU.
Learn from my mistake and be sure to oil your PC and PSU fans!
;D

With that out of the way, I am selling brand new 3oz bottles of 3-IN-ONE muti-purpose oil for use of "lubing" your PC fans.

You can also:

Not gonna lie I have never heard of oil for your computer. I have been following computer technology for a while. The only other time I have heard computer and oil is the oil cooled computer ,which keeps the computer super cool.

It took you twelve hours to replace a PSU?

This happened on a Saturday night and I had to wait 12 hours (9AM) for the nearest microcenter to open as it was too late for a night run ;)

Yes indeed they last a while! I was using a bottle I bought 10 years ago for oiling model train equipment and other hobby RC toys. I recently had to buy a new bottle as the old one tipped over and leaked all over in the garage :(

Keep your caps on! ;D

I suppose this is a good idea. I'd be very cautious about adding and liquid to anything attached to my rig, plus my fans all have sealed bearings so oil would really have no positive effect

I would be really surprised if all your fans have sealed bearings. It's not terribly common.

Mineral oil isn't a conductor, so you can splatter it all over everything and it won't cause a short. ;)

Good to know! Thanks for clarification

What I would like to see is the little micro-bottles of oil with a  needle tip for precision application. Do you sell any of those?

I used to support a network of about 10000 old 286 machines, most with 2mb ram or such. (They were POS systems so they didn't need upgrading). We'd peel the sticker off the fan, give it a drop or two of oil, no more noise. Good for another 20 years.

Unfortunately, no. At first I was looking for those small tubes, but they only come with new electric hair/grooming kits. I finally realized that 3-in-one is essentially the same lubrication oil. A can will last for years!

You've been selling 3-in-1 oil for five months? That's pretty cool. How do you ship it? Would you be interested in trading a bottle for a 2oz bottle of Safari Charlie?

Glad you like it. I ship them 1st class parcel via USPS from MI.

I'm sorry, no need for gun lube I'm afraid. ;D

I was wondering about shipping because I know shipping liquids can be difficult.

And the Safari Charlie is all purpose. It just has a couple attributes that gun owners specifically seek, like the ability to clean, lubricate, and protect in one run. Aside from my all purpose use, the hotel where I work uses it. Just thought you might've been a lubricant connoisseur looking to deepen your lubrication expertise.

Shipping liquids is totally fine as long as you tell the clerk that it is a liquid. In this case, I tell them it's "Hobby Oil" for model train sets. That way they ship the package differently so that it doesn't leak from poor handling (thrown around, smashed by 1000lbs of other packages, run over by mail truck, etc).

Here's an Interesting fact:  When searching for an affordable shipping method, 1st Class Parcel was not only cheap, but it is the only parcel method guaranteed to NOT be opened or inspected by the post office. I used to swear by priority mail, but not at $6+.

lol I have to admit, I had to google Safari Charlie. At first I thought it was hot sauce or something. Learn something everyday  ;D
