E-bay won't agree because it's against their policy of requiring a payment method that is reversible.  The ebay rating system is currently for show for that reason as the buyer will always receive their money back no matter if they practice due diligence or not.

I wonder in the future would they not just offer their own escrow service if they were to accept Bitcoin. This would achieve the same effect I think.

Still, it is obvious they are not going to accept it for another (probably long) while. But we have biddingpond anyway. :)

Em. A payment per bank is not reversible too. But ebay accepts this.

For the U.S.:
Quote
Sellers can't require buyers to pay using methods that aren't allowed on eBay or that they didn't include in their listing. For details, see the accepted payments policy.

  http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html)
  http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/accepted-payment-methods.html (http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/accepted-payment-methods.html)

I suppose if you listed bitcoin as an optional alternate method for payment, ... and perhaps gave a 3% discount even as an incentive (the same amount you'ld lose to PayPal), then that might enable you to operate without violating eBay's policy yet still make it so some will likely pay with bitcoins.

In Germany the bank tranfrer are fee-free. And the 3% ist not required.
But this is useful Info, thanx!!

I hope you're right. At the time I readed the policy I haven't see the word "optional". This can be useful!

How about putting bitcoin in the title of bitcoin buyable items and then a note about bitcoin in the body of the auction?

The ideal would be to drift away from Paypal and Ebay and have a market like biddingpond.com that did not charge near 10% total for transactions.  I will soon start to list there (next week) and try it out.

Reputation will be very important on a site like that because scammers will try to infest any site.  On a bitcoin driven site, most of the scamming would be done by the seller (not shipping, mis-representing) not by the buyer like in ebay.

Today ebay has made it way to easy to rip a seller off, with the biggest stupid move of eliminating negative feedback option for the seller.  Now a scammer can keep doing the same trick to many sellers.

i don't know what country you hail from but, personally, I have done bank reversals on wire transfers here in the United States. More difficult than a credit card transaction reversal but, still highly possible.  Not to go too off topic but this is one of the reason why I enjoy Bitcoin, YOU control your money not some bureaucratic mess(banks, government etc.)

This right here(emphasis mine). I will never remove the feature of two way feedback.  In the future I might even implement the ability to even block buyers based upon their positive/negative feedback ratio.  Right now I'm working on a couple of Bitcoin projects as the sole developer. One of them to be released in the next few days. So, time is definitely limited.

Agreed! I'm always amazed or upset with consumer rights.
In any trade the [scammer] can be on either side. There's no point in saying or assume "the seller" is the scammer or the potential scammer.
Then a "consumer", one that is «exclusively a consumer», is a social parasite, because normal people is both, producer and consumer. Market demands balance not grant one all privileges and make the other a sitting duck.

A while ago I quit a subscription for one of those "Consumer protection"'s magazine. I found outrageous that 99% of it was about mobile phones - for it I'll go fetch an operator flayer myself, thank you. And then add sections with a title so amazing as "The consumer demands". I really wonder who they think they're, because for "The consumer" they are meaning themselves. And "demands" goes as balanced as «the consumer must have the right to a full refund if return the thing to the shop within 15 days» - WHAT?! So let's say, I buy a pair of tennis, 15 days later go there for the refund, buy another, do the same... over and over... a free pair every 15 days? Was it the idea?!...

Gosh!...  >:(

I`m also from Germany, and bank transfers ARE reversible. Once someone I didn`t know transfered me some money by accident, and I didn`t say a thing. A month or so later my bank called me that the transfer will be reversed, for I was obviously not the intended recipient and the sender did a mistake. Banks here (and everywhere I suppose) have great liberties in reversing transfers that most people are not aware of. Another reason to like bitcoins :-)

Someone else was trying to sell bitcoins in this manner.  They are no longer active, so perhaps that didn't end very well (chargebacks can occur up to 180 days after the sale, so sales of these might seem to be going well with no chargebacks and then all of a sudden boom!)

Are you suggesting that eBay allow the seller to put in the restriction that payment using bitcoins to an escrow service is required?  I can't imagine eBay allowing this for listings on their own site.

I suppose what you could do is compose a listing that has terms "cash only, local pickup only"  but then in the description mention that the item can be shipped if paid for using bitcoins (through an escrow service if the buyer wishes).

Many people on eBay selling mining equipment / contracts will accept BTC, but most will only advertise that in private messages or if you ask them. It takes some trust though on the part of both parties. My sense was that many of them accepted it as a way to avoid ebay's fees.

yeah, if you are a little creative, and dont put the exact phrase "bitcoin" in your ad, you can do it.  Just put accepting "btc", or "btc c0in" or "b1t co1n" or something like that.  Anyone who sees it and is looking to use btc will know to pm you and go from there.

You can use sites like all4BTC to buy things on ebay as well. Assuming the seller ships to your country, that is.

But, you don't get a discount. What we need is something like a purse.io for ebay using ebay wishlists to create a marketplace. Create a wishlist of what you want to buy with your requested discount in BTC and someone else agrees to buy it at the higher BTC exchange rate. That person would be in effect buying BTC with paypal or other CCs. The buyer should not be able to see your actual shipping address, so it keeps it somewhat anonymous. Use a multi-sig wallet and the marketplace does not directly control anyone's BTC.

the only time I tried to buy btc on eBay with a "cheap price" as compared to exchange prices, I was scammed.

In fact, that was the one and ONLY time I've ever been scammed buying or selling on eBay.  So now I give anyone the same warning:  look at paypal's terms of service.  They do NOT allow buying and selling of digital goods. including digital downloads, software downloads. bitcoin, etc.  So if someone wants to scam you, this gives them a loophole.  Dont say I didn;t warn you!

Maybe they offer it at discount, because they need to sell it urgently while on exchange its harder, as wire transfer costs alot of money.

Who knows.

Ebay doesn't accept bitcoin officially due to the terms of paypal. It is only possible for them to accept bitcoin if the paypal also allows to deposit through bitcoin, which will never gonna happen because the source of bitcoin income is always anonymous.

eBay won't accept Bitcoin any time soon, if ever, for the simple reason that Bitcoin is irreversible and so requires funds to be held in escrow until both parties are satisfied.  It also requires fees to be paid by the seller either in advance or at the time of the sale, deducted from the amount received by the seller.  This is such a huge departure from their current model that they simply couldn't support it in parallel with their current transaction process via PayPal.  People (sellers particularly) will just get totally confused... "If they pay with PayPal I get it straight away but if they pay with Bitcoin I don't get the money until after I send the item and they notify eBay to release the money??"

This is the reason that https://cryptothrift.com (https://cryptothrift.com) exists and why it is so popular amongst the Bitcoin community.  Everybody knows in advance that if the buyer chooses to use escrow (which they should), the money goes into escrow and the seller will receive their money after they have delivered.  The business is built around an escrow service that expects to have to intervene to resolve disputes and to release money from escrow to sellers in the event the buyer forgets.

Disclosure: I am the co-founder and developer of CryptoThrift... expect big changes to arrive soon!

Nah, i think ebay already approve bitcoin as their payment, but not.

The OP of this thread ever said, ebay accept it. What is his plan to share some hoax in here.

For the OP: if you want sell same books with BTC, you can sell in on this thread and give us know about your conversation with the CS's ebay.
But please do not make some hoax news here.

For paulthetafy: It's nice.! Very great work. Hope your service can help a lot buyers and sellers in BTC.

Not unless Paypal agreed that Bitcoin is better than fiat and willing to add Bitcoin to they payment system ::)
Which won't happen in the short time, but my gut tells me it will happen in the future :)
Don't lose hope, keep using Bitcoin

In the future, there will be banks dealing with bitcoin just like fiat. You paypal account will link to that bank. Then your bitcoin become reversible when you sell things on Ebay.

Paypal in 2050 will probably be a bitcoin wallet like Coinbase.

I doubt fiat will exist by then, and ebay will have to stat competitive because NXT marketplace or openbazaar are direct competitors.

Yes. Competition is good. We will see the situation is 35 year's time. Or maybe even earlier as bitcoin grow exponentially.

Neither paypal nor ebay gonna accept bitcoin in near future. They always blame bitcoin being criminals money due to its anonymous property. But i have heard a news about paypal investing to research blockchain technology, this may open door for bitcoin by them far in future.

From my conversations with eBay representatives on private forums, there is no interest in them dealing with BTC at this time.  There is no security to them because they have no control over the transactions.  So if a seller rips another seller off, they are stuck paying out of pocket instead of tapping into the sellers account and taking the money out, or freezing Paypal.  They have no control over BTC like that and, lets face it, eBay is a CONTROL FREAK.

Well that's not going to happen anytime soon,  maybe they will implement it if open bazaar starts getting too much of the pie.  Although at that point it might be too late for eBay, obviously this depends completely on open bazaar succeeding.

E-bay won't agree because it's against their policy of requiring a payment method that is reversible.  The ebay rating system is currently for show for that reason as the buyer will always receive their money back no matter if they practice due diligence or not.

You could exchange and fill up your Paypal account. Easiest way.

Yes i think adding Bitcoin as payment processor in such famous marketplaces like Ebay and Amazon is real method to support this marketplaces itselves , because it's growing it's community and helping the Bitcoin's users to purchase it's services and goods easily

I think they will accept it when a global famous company steps in with the bitcoin, ebay would do it too because they want to destroy the competition of course.

Someone else was trying to sell bitcoins in this manner.  They are no longer active, so perhaps that didn't end very well (chargebacks can occur up to 180 days after the sale, so sales of these might seem to be going well with no chargebacks and then all of a sudden boom!)

If enough people ask eBay about BitCoin for escrow (to avoid scamming), would they consider it? Or is that just stupid of me to think?

Are you suggesting that eBay allow the seller to put in the restriction that payment using bitcoins to an escrow service is required?  I can't imagine eBay allowing this for listings on their own site.

I suppose what you could do is compose a listing that has terms "cash only, local pickup only"  but then in the description mention that the item can be shipped if paid for using bitcoins (through an escrow service if the buyer wishes).

I know about a user at ebay that sold btc for paypal, too.
He sold a lot btc....
But 100% of the buyers used hacked paypal accounts..... :-\

Bitcoin on Ebay will be very good. Because people can see that Ebay will accept Bitcoin more and more.
So they are also going to use it and that will be perfect for Bitcoin and in the future.

I think some seller of ebay is joined here in our forum and sell some their product accepting bitcoin like this..
And lets hope ebay will develop and accepting bitcoin as payment.. it will happen in the future but now its impossible that they added it as payment unless they hire escrow for deals..

going to implement it would be sad if ebay implement that and not bitcoin :-\

People should know that it is possible to pay with Bitcoin on Ebay. If they know it than it will rise both.

Bitcoin is a bad thing for eBay. Sellers will refuse to accept reversible payment methods like PayPal, and only accept bitching and bank transfers. Then people will be disappointed at the loss of the convenience of PayPal, and move away from eBay. eBay will lose business and there will most probably be a copy of it as it's successor, that doesn't not accept bitcoin. The end.

sadly  i don't like that book, but i like your idea of paying with bitcoins in ebay, even if it's against ebay rules

but it's awesome to see that people uses bitcoin more and more now, i imagine what will be in future, everyone should use bitcoin or atleast know about it

Ebay should really accept the bitcoin as a payment soon they would attract way more people than before.
Also the fact is that if they do not want to do this, people should make a sort of Ebay that accepts the bitcoin.
Another idea is some kind of agent for it like taobao has with cssbuy.

and with selling book, i think that it is good idea, more and more people will sell things for bitcoin, but i don't think that there will be a lot of buyers because of site like purse.io

Neither paypal nor ebay gonna accept bitcoin in near future. They always blame bitcoin being criminals money due to its anonymous property. But i have heard a news about paypal investing to research blockchain technology, this may open door for bitcoin by them far in future.

they won't accept it unless bitcoins will rule the world and everyone will want to change to them,  then they will have to accept bitcoins or close their sites

and i think that it is good that you sell book for bitcoin on ebay, you should really find a seller that will buy that book from you

They are gonna accept it because other marketplaces will accept it also soon and they do not want to lose people because they are not accepting something.
Its all just a matter of time in my opinion, Ebay is normally not accepting payments that are not reverse able  so that is also why they do not accept it right now.

the problem with bitcoin is that lack of reversibility. For the honest buyer and honest seller this isnt an issue. but those scammers that relay on it dont want it and they tend to be the ones that scream the loadest unfortunately.

Plus using bitcoin it is way to easy to cut ebay/paypal out of the equation and if you do that how are they going to steal their 6% fees from you.

I would never combine btc and ebay.  Paypals policy is clear "no digital goods" allowed.  They wont even review the case, just refer you to their policy refraining from digital goods.  Until they officially change thier policy, I'd stay away.

Bitcoin on Ebay can be really nice for serious, because many people are using both, but not many people use that combination.
And that can be really good if they will make the combination and so you are also making it more acceptable and also more spendable.
If that will happen than Bitcoin will have a good future.

It is good to have Bitcoin on Ebay, so you can earn some more money with it if you are selling your products through Ebay because many people is using Bitcoin.
And you can also make it both more popular and that is also good, but there will be a time that Bitcoin will be everywhere acceptable and that the value will jump.

I don't think that for now bitcoins would be good for ebay. There are not that many people, who trust virtual currency, as for ebay it would ruin many sales, as lots of sellers would not accept BTC. Firstly, society needs to widely accept virtual currency, only after that it can be integrated into such big e-shops like ebay.

I dont think ebay will accept bitcoin as payment is because the price of bitcoin is unstable unlike paypal and other e-curriencies they are afraid to lose money if the bitcoin price go drop if they accept bitcoin as payment maybe it is the main reason why after many years uptil now bitcoin is not accepted on ebay, and lets see what may happen. In future.

In future.

I agree e-bay definitely won't accept bitcoin as payment to their goods. But still we are hoping that they will accept soon and see the fast growth of bitcoin industry today so that we can easily shop from them.

if ebay starts accepting bitcoin it would be a great mile stone by Btc
Some sellers of Ebay already starting to accept Bitcoin and that is the problem not everyone knows that so we have to change that and also promote it more so more people will get to know about it.
The only thing that we cant control is the value and that is just time to wait for a better value soon.
Bitcoin on ebay is also getting more used and that is quite nice for both because there will be more used so you are also making it more popular so that is nice for the future.
The only thing that have to change is indeed the value but we have just to wait and see for what will happen.

i didn't know ebay is using the payment method for Bitcoins.
is it that they could get profit out of it or is it people pay with coins and the other gets gold.
that would be smart ebay.

If enough people ask eBay about BitCoin for escrow (to avoid scamming), would they consider it? Or is that just stupid of me to think?
no why would it be stupid i think they would consider about it why would they not?
every new thing has his positive and negative site of it you can always try.

If people will ask ebay about that. It would take time for a transaction to be done.

And that's a bad thing for an online shopping because they're goal is to have a convenient and fast transaction.

In many on-line shopping I have done it's been hours before they confirmed my card payment, I don't think Bitcoin confirmation time is the reason.
PayPal is quick only for confirmed accounts - it takes time to be confirmed, and new sellers waits days before they can use money received.

eBay and PayPal are one company (regardless official splitting on paper).
+ eBay charges very fat fee on every transaction
+ PayPal charges fee on every transaction
= they do not like you to pay directly (even you sell something explicitly "cash on pick up only" you still have to add PayPal as payment choice)

eBay/PayPal provides "Buyer Protection"
+ it is very favourable to buyer as he can make claim with little proof to have money back.
+ it is backed by force on taking monies back from seller even he declines buyer claim because t&c accepted by seller gives them power to take over his bank acc./credit card
= nature of Bitcoin (and any crypto) will not allow above scheme (or scam (https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=paypal+scam&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=XacnV_jjINWogAa6_6ioDA#channel=fs&q=chargeback+paypal+scam) as many see)

Therefore I'm sure they not looking forward to implement Bitcoin any time soon.

It's a milestone in the growth of bitcoin. When adoption touches a certain limit, big corporate and trading companies surely take part in the bitcoin usage. Right now I believe only few sellers of eBay accepts bitcoin for their products.

Someone recently pointed me to an app called Gyft. They sell giftcards and accept bitcoin. Ebay being one of the cards they sell.

Buy the giftcard with btc then use that for ebay. You just used btc to pay for ebay....sort of.
This is actually an ol' way to get away from them not allowing this.
But you still run a risk. Be warn!
As you can see indeed you see that Bitcoin is getting also more popular on Ebay and that is nice for the future because some people are using Bitcoin as their payment method so they can buy things now on Ebay.
And it is nice that you can make a lot of money with with Bitcoin on Ebay if you are selling and you also make it more acceptable so that is perfect.

nice that they accept the bitcoin now that will be nice for the future.

There are people who use the platform of ebay to sell their products are accepting bitcoin in terms of payment. It will be a good news if ebay will start to accept bitcoins soon and many people will go into bitcoins if that happens.

I found couple of sellers who can sell coins for bitcoins. But all it was determined via trial and error method - usually they do not advertise it

My comment was related to Erzatium post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3861.msg14741718#msg14741718) where he assumed that eBay accepts Bitcoin.
Please read before commenting.

Bitcoin on Ebay is getting more popular and that is perfect because Bitcoin is also getting more used so that means that Ebay will get more users and can earn more money.
People are also going to use Bitcoin as their payment method and that is perfect for the currency so that is nice.

But we have to wait and see for what will happen with the value because everyone is hoping that it will be more worth.

There are also sellers in ebay that accept bitcoins for your payment to their goods , products.
You just need to talk to them and have your deal correctly.

Soon or later, ebay will accept it, its just a matter of time before they will in my eyes.
I think they are just waiting till other marketplaces also stepping into it, plus normally they do not use not reversible payment methods...but we could maybe use a sort of escrow right ?

That's the best thing ever happened to the bitcoin a big step. ... such a smart idea of ebay
to setup a paying method with coins.
Where have you found this revelation?
eBay did NOT "setup" paying method with any cryptocoins.
No best, big step... sorry.

Yes, any seller may declare he takes Bitcoin payment the same way he can declare cash payment or any other payment, and as always, eBay WILL advise buyers NOT to use it.
Also seller may be banned because it is actually against eBay rules!

To make it very clear for you, there is quote from eBay Accepted payments policy: (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html)
"Paying with Virtual or Cryptocurrencies - Not Allowed."
"Make sure your listing follows these guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and you may be subject to a range of other actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account."

I don't think ebay will like this too much. I wish you the best of luck and many good tidings on your journey.

It nice that we can have Bitcoin on Ebay and that is because around this time there are also now a lot of people that is using Bitcoin as their new payment method and that is perfect.
But not everyone knows that it is possible to pay with Bitcoin so we have to promote it also more.

What if ebay will do it and if he will accept bitcoin this would be a good way to promote bitcoin since ebay is a well known online shop, so people now will ask, what is that bitcoin? Out of curiosity bitcoin is free advertise to their website and people will get into bitcoin.
