Title: HTC is planning to build a blockchain-powered smartphone
Post by: anushkasachith888 on May 18, 2018, 07:14:08 PM
HTC is planning to build a new blockchain-powered phone featuring a built-in cryptocurrency wallet.
HTC's Exodus device will make it easier for users to trade cryptocurrencies
The touted Android device, known as Exodus, will come packaged with a universal wallet and hardware support for all major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, as well as featuring decentralised applications.

Head HTC's business and corporate development Phil Chen, who founded the company's virtual reality system Vive, outlined these plans in an interview with The Next Web, also providing provisional schematics.

"Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more," Chen said. "We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we'll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together."

I think HTC is thinking in the right direction because the change that blockchain is sweeping across the world is alarming. As a smart business like HTC ,they have to tap into the resources as soon as poosible before their competitors do.Now that HTC is building a blockchain based smartphone,it will put them ahead of their competitors and make them stand out.I support this great project.

yes, HTC exodus is created to complement the blockchain ecosystem, there are many applications inside such as, Decentralized Applications and others. if HTC exodus is successful with this new project, I think there will be many new smartphones that will follow in his footsteps. hopefully with this development, the future will be brighter with new technologies.

What nonsense you are saying hehe. It is all the same nonsense I read when companies come out with this type of marketing propaganda. I love the idea of blockchain and smartphone but all these phones really are doing is just making their device easier to use with crypto and blockchain. You want decentralized apps you make them and use them on your own device. Not prebuilt on some new phone you have no idea where it came from or if the code is legit.

I agree with you, It’s only " marketing propaganda." just trying to get back to the current system. "trust in the third party."
Nor do I think it will benefit from its technology, just a modern version of hardware wallets With great gravity in protection.
It is trying to use the name of Bitcoin as a Marketing strategy

This is due to the fact that sales of such a company have increased. That's the basis chosen bitcoin as more people are beginning to learn about the crypto currency.

Yeah, I think so many newcomers will have their first introduction to Bitcoin now knowing that it isn't actually linked to any of the products or services claiming to use it. But perhaps that's no longer a matter to be concerned with. One day people will use Bitcoin without understanding its origins, just as we use banking and fiat today.

Think there's even Huawei now banking on Bitcoin popularity, planning to install all their devices with Bitcoin wallets.

Isn't there a blockchain powered phone already in the market? I forgot the name but I'm definitely buying it!

It's called the Finney, developed by Sirin Labs. Had a sellout ICO and everything. That's probably a "truer" version of a blockchain phone that what HTC seems to be offering, as the latter only looks to be a dAPP centric smartphone, whereas the Finney looks to be just an extension of its own blockchain.

Honestly, I feel that sometimes big companies are just exploiting the terms "cryptocurrencies" and "blockchain" too much. They are just using the terms as a marketing stunt and they are trying to ride the waves that was caused by Bitcoins so they can promote their products. Usually though, they don't really have any features making full use of the technologies. I haven't really seen a company use blockchain in a very practical manner.

So first samsung, now HTC... who's next?

Tomorrow even my microwave is going to have a built in crypto mining chip and crypto wallet. Even tho I like to hear news like this, how effective that wallet is going to be? This to me looks just like a simple band wagon of today's crypto mania.

Why HTC announced it? Because HTC is not a profit-making company now. It just sold their engineering department to Google. For Taiwan it is important that HTC keeps existence. It is an important high tech company in Taiwan. From Vive to Exodus, Now HTC must catches every possible chance to back to the glory again.

Yes There needs to be real action and action that really utilizes blockchain technology appropriately. do not let them all just say about blockchain. Application of blockchain technology must be maximized so that the device has advantages over others. Until now I also have not seen any company acting on this issue, most of them only take advantage of the state of crypto. Utilization of a real nature is still fairly modest and not much different from the current utilization.

I think building block chain powered mobile cause high price this will gives a loss for the company it will be very rare but if it is possible it will be very helpful for the development of the block chain world.

Based from what is happening they are just really throwing the words around to gain attention and there is zero application of the technology. People should boycott these companies for doing such an unethical way of promoting their products as they do not plan to really implement such technologies. I do hope if HTC is advertising they are going to use the blockchain technology on their phones, they better do so.

I like this concept. Only downside I see is a potential for wallet, personal and financial data being collected through wireless transmissions. There was a story in the news in 2017 about 400 million android phones being vulnerable to a backdoor installed by chinese vendors. All of which could be filed under "normal concerns" for any type of hardware/software where money is involved. Its been documented many routers and modems have backdoors installed via default as well so it is possible laptops and desktops are currently as vulnerable as smartphones.

It is a good concept. Many carry their phones. Having all the information and functionality required "at your fingertips" is something Bill Gates could only aspire to in decades past. Its been said wallet and crypto support could be installed via default with this latest roll out of their "blockchain powered" smartphone. Hopefully people will experiment with it and learn about crypto on their own, without being misled or influenced too much by the media which tends to portray a negative view of crypto and bitcoin in general.

Not sure I would want to be trusting and using a bitcoin wallet that came pre-installed on my phone.  :-\ I think I will wait this out and see what happens with it. It is interesting to me, but I am not into being the guinea pig for a device like this.

In that next few months is where my interests lies because that is where the outcome of all planning, speculations, prototypes will have to materialise as without that, its mere words and noise that does not move anything. Its really a good one though as it shows to promote crypto currency to a new set of people. I have gotten aware of certain products I didn't even know exist because its a default app on my phone and even if I wanted to get rid of it, I can't as I am left with exploring it.

Details, including price, are currently scant. The big-picture idea, says HTC, is that this is a phone for those who value privacy. By using blockchain tech, the Exodus will be able to give privacy-minded users control over their data without having to rely on the major technology companies for cloud storage.
This is so great

This is just marketing. No one, who actually values his privacy will buy a mainstream smartphone from
one of the biggest manufacturers in the world that is running Android.

Besides, they should really fire the guy, who came up with the name "Exodus".
The name "Exodus" is already in use in the cryptocurrency scene
(it is the name of a multi-currency wallet that has integrated Shapeshift).

This is very interesting news. There is need of blockchain powered cell phone now a days. It will be helpful in doing crypto related business. Every company and government should take steps towards facilitation of Digital/crypto currency. They should announce incentives on crypto related products as many of the ico products are giving incentives to promote their ico project.

Hmm possibly true, but they are still producing smart phones as far as I know. Competition is very tough on their field specially when Samsung enter the pictures years ago.

Yeah, that would be the catch, we are very paranoid about our crypto wallets and wouldn't trust it to someone specially a pre-installed bitcoin wallet. So I'm not on board with this one, yeah its convenient to use however, I still prefer the handy hardware wallet to keep my bitcoin safe.

You are going a bit too fast here. Blockchain as technology is in its very early stage still, and no one here can even remotely imagine what new uses blockchain will be capable of in the coming few years.

Currently we just need to get through the hype around the blockchain since it actually hinders development. The sentiment nowadays is that everything with blockchain in its name has potential and is worth millions.

Just look at how many shitcoins and shit ICOs we are dealing with. It is a bubble in a way, and at some point we'll see everything go to back to normal, and that will be the best possible outcome.

Quality matters, not quantity. Current hype is all about quantity as we can see.

This development can increase bitcoin popularity immensely, back in the day when web browsers began being developed one of the reasons people used internet explorer was because it came preinstalled with their machines, if from now on smart phones come integrated with wallets then it will be easier for the average person to gain access to the bitcoin market and invest in it.

I think it'll be connected the IoT Smart Cloud where you'll be able to mine the likes of Toaster Coin and HairDryerCoin from the comforts of your villa on Easter Island.

My current favorite is alluded to in the depiction above - mining Coal Coin while jet-setting around the world on planes controlled by who-knows-who.

A HTC powered blockchain that's really interesting. But am wondering what's the real use of the phone. besides with this many ongoing hacks won't the phone be an easy target. Why trade with a blockchain phone over exchange. From what they are saying the phone will serve as a hardware wallet too. If stolen since you will need to be carrying it around. Well i really don't see any special thing or feature the phone will have.

HTC is a phone company that I love with good design and good performance. I would be very pleased if HTC has real applications installed on HTC to host crypto for investors in this market, that is great.

Most consumers don't even know what the blockchain is! The hotspot of the blockchain attracts consumers!
This is just a marketing strategy!
The current blockchain mobile phone, in addition to wallet mining, did not see a better application scenario!

Mobile phone replacement is driven by technological innovation, and blockchain technology is such a slogan.
If the blockchain mobile phone can really carry the mature blockchain technology and become a veritable blockchain mobile phone, it will usher in a milestone of innovative technology for mobile phone development.

It would make more people be aware of cryptocurrencies but then I don't know how special it would be or how it would differ than just have an app for wallet. Well, for one thing, you have your private key so only you can access it as long as the only one who knew the key but then it would become a target as well for those snatchers because they knew that you have a wallet or funds in it. You even keep your hardware wallet in a safe and now, you openly use it and a possibility of being stolen from you.

I see this situation in this way, now there are a lot of projects, and all of them are aimed at improving services, it's cool, but it seems to me that everyone has forgotten about the security of our data, but the block is well protected, but now. I read an article about quantum processors, they are already talking about the possibility of hacking, and what will happen after they become public, and the technology will improve. I began to look, and found an interesting project that is immediately ready to solve the problem of not only quantum protection, but also improve the speed of the entire system as a whole. I managed to participate in several ICO, some I earned quite well, I can say with certainty, for a good project, it must have potential for the future, that it will be needed in five years. Unfortunately most projects do not have this potential. I was lucky and I came across a project focused on protecting against hacking quantum processors, and to maximize the use of all the advantages of new technologies, project Kelvin Blockchain, you need at least to consider, because not every day there is such a good option for investing money.
Kelvin Blockchain (https://medium.com/@kelvinchain/the-post-quantum-era-of-blockchain-todays-solutions-for-the-world-of-tomorrow-16bdd970f49a) project itself is flexible to implementing cryptographic algorithms which will make it one of the safest blockchains ever existed with 10+ signature available from the start. This project does not rely on any particular signature algorithm and due to the multi-client use - on some single consensus. In case of any problems, it is possible to quickly locate the threat and prevent it’s distribution throughout the system. Multiple blockchains with different consensus algorithms, token types, and assignments will be available. The multichain technology allows creating almost an unlimited potential for speed and productivity. Kelvin Blockchain can launch up to 2^64 subchains - more available subchains will benefit in increased speed and security. Moreover, all the blockchains will be processed in one wallet so that the client could have fast transactions, secure investments and cheap smart contracts as well as a lot of other services at his hand.

In the last few years, HTC has slowly lost its brand in the smartphone market by the strong development of brands such as Apple, Samsung ... This can be a breakthrough of HTC to bring To the convenience of the HTC phone lovers and to invest in cryptocurrency.

Either this project would be a HIT or a FLOP and this news comes out wayback from May it theres no news about the development of this project yet. When we do talk about past history of HTC on mobile market i do remember those old years when they do get some popularity but as the years goes by its popularity vanishes gradually due to lots of competitors which do offer more cheaper and feature-wise phones.
HTC didnt able to cope up and now they do only release a unit once in a while and even those phones didnt even make some noise. If this would be done successfuly then they might have a chance.

This is a long term project if they want to integrate blockchain wallets into their htc phones and its definitely a great idea considering that many crypto people are interested for this kind of phones with built in hardware wallets if Im not mistaken theres an ico last year that is  already in development of smartphones with builtin wallet like this the Sirin labs the first blockchain phone I know beside the plan of htc.

HTC has announced the specifications of the Exodus 1 - the world's first blockchain. At the same time, HTC has announced that it will begin accepting orders for this model. However, the new Exodus 1 revealed by HTC only uses blockchain with enhanced security features for users. HTC equips this model with information retrieval mechanisms in the event of a lost phone.
I have ordered and wait to receive this smart phone

It  will not be a crypto for trading or mining, they simply will use blockchain solution to have better control over devices and will try to combine mobile+blockchain solutions.... do not think u will make any cash from it lol  :P :P
