HTC is planning to build a new blockchain-powered phone featuring a built-in cryptocurrency wallet.
HTC's Exodus device will make it easier for users to trade cryptocurrencies
The touted Android device, known as Exodus, will come packaged with a universal wallet and hardware support for all major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, as well as featuring decentralised applications.

Head HTC's business and corporate development Phil Chen, who founded the company's virtual reality system Vive, outlined these plans in an interview with The Next Web, also providing provisional schematics.

"Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more," Chen said. "We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we'll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together."

I think HTC is thinking in the right direction because the change that blockchain is sweeping across the world is alarming. As a smart business like HTC ,they have to tap into the resources as soon as poosible before their competitors do.Now that HTC is building a blockchain based smartphone,it will put them ahead of their competitors and make them stand out.I support this great project.

yes, HTC exodus is created to complement the blockchain ecosystem, there are many applications inside such as, Decentralized Applications and others. if HTC exodus is successful with this new project, I think there will be many new smartphones that will follow in his footsteps. hopefully with this development, the future will be brighter with new technologies.

What nonsense you are saying hehe. It is all the same nonsense I read when companies come out with this type of marketing propaganda. I love the idea of blockchain and smartphone but all these phones really are doing is just making their device easier to use with crypto and blockchain. You want decentralized apps you make them and use them on your own device. Not prebuilt on some new phone you have no idea where it came from or if the code is legit.

I agree with you, It’s only " marketing propaganda." just trying to get back to the current system. "trust in the third party."
Nor do I think it will benefit from its technology, just a modern version of hardware wallets With great gravity in protection.
It is trying to use the name of Bitcoin as a Marketing strategy

It's just trying to catch up with the wave

This is due to the fact that sales of such a company have increased. That's the basis chosen bitcoin as more people are beginning to learn about the crypto currency.

Yeah, I think so many newcomers will have their first introduction to Bitcoin now knowing that it isn't actually linked to any of the products or services claiming to use it. But perhaps that's no longer a matter to be concerned with. One day people will use Bitcoin without understanding its origins, just as we use banking and fiat today.

Think there's even Huawei now banking on Bitcoin popularity, planning to install all their devices with Bitcoin wallets.

Isn't there a blockchain powered phone already in the market? I forgot the name but I'm definitely buying it!

It's called the Finney, developed by Sirin Labs. Had a sellout ICO and everything. That's probably a "truer" version of a blockchain phone that what HTC seems to be offering, as the latter only looks to be a dAPP centric smartphone, whereas the Finney looks to be just an extension of its own blockchain.

Honestly, I feel that sometimes big companies are just exploiting the terms "cryptocurrencies" and "blockchain" too much. They are just using the terms as a marketing stunt and they are trying to ride the waves that was caused by Bitcoins so they can promote their products. Usually though, they don't really have any features making full use of the technologies. I haven't really seen a company use blockchain in a very practical manner.

So first samsung, now HTC... who's next?

Tomorrow even my microwave is going to have a built in crypto mining chip and crypto wallet. Even tho I like to hear news like this, how effective that wallet is going to be? This to me looks just like a simple band wagon of today's crypto mania.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

Why HTC announced it? Because HTC is not a profit-making company now. It just sold their engineering department to Google. For Taiwan it is important that HTC keeps existence. It is an important high tech company in Taiwan. From Vive to Exodus, Now HTC must catches every possible chance to back to the glory again.

Yes There needs to be real action and action that really utilizes blockchain technology appropriately. do not let them all just say about blockchain. Application of blockchain technology must be maximized so that the device has advantages over others. Until now I also have not seen any company acting on this issue, most of them only take advantage of the state of crypto. Utilization of a real nature is still fairly modest and not much different from the current utilization.

Internally we don't know what is happening exactly but the first Mobile company announced they are going develop mobile through Blockchain. See sooner or later most of the companies will start using blockchain technology for developing many other resources we are using daily

I think building block chain powered mobile cause high price this will gives a loss for the company it will be very rare but if it is possible it will be very helpful for the development of the block chain world.

Based from what is happening they are just really throwing the words around to gain attention and there is zero application of the technology. People should boycott these companies for doing such an unethical way of promoting their products as they do not plan to really implement such technologies. I do hope if HTC is advertising they are going to use the blockchain technology on their phones, they better do so.

I like this concept. Only downside I see is a potential for wallet, personal and financial data being collected through wireless transmissions. There was a story in the news in 2017 about 400 million android phones being vulnerable to a backdoor installed by chinese vendors. All of which could be filed under "normal concerns" for any type of hardware/software where money is involved. Its been documented many routers and modems have backdoors installed via default as well so it is possible laptops and desktops are currently as vulnerable as smartphones.

It is a good concept. Many carry their phones. Having all the information and functionality required "at your fingertips" is something Bill Gates could only aspire to in decades past. Its been said wallet and crypto support could be installed via default with this latest roll out of their "blockchain powered" smartphone. Hopefully people will experiment with it and learn about crypto on their own, without being misled or influenced too much by the media which tends to portray a negative view of crypto and bitcoin in general.

I like the concept, too......  but I am also, like others here have expressed, skeptical. Not sure I would want to be trusting and using a bitcoin wallet that came pre-installed on my phone.  Undecided I think I will wait this out and see what happens with it. It is interesting to me, but I am not into being the guinea pig for a device like this.
