Gonna keep an eye on this one. I hate when dogs get all messed up for any reason, so I was tempted to fill this myself (for one or two of those pennies as collateral). I'm interested to see how this turns out.

I will donate 1000$ to help save this dog, under these conditions.

1- we get a pic of your dog with your screen name.

2- I pay the vet directly

3- all money needed for the surgery is acquired before hand. I don't want to donate $1000 and the vet says its gonna be 3k more.

get a tally of the total for all surgery's and meds and treatment, and then if the $1000 is enough then we can go ahead and start the process, if its not then you will have to drive up some other donations from the forum.

I have a feeling there are plenty of newly rich dog lovers on here and if we pull together we can do right for this dog.

Holy shit BOB i absolutely agree to you terms and shocked!  The estimate is $1300+_ like $30-$65 depending on wether they need aditional medicine to keep him sedated i think it was or additional something but the +- was not insane like hundreds of dollars!   I can absolutely get a copy of the official Estimate from his vet with my name his name EtC. ETC to provide to you.  Raising the additional $300 on top of your donation is the problem i wil work on.  He has been taking 2 meds minocycline and vetprofen since for a while to combat the infection and anti-inflamtory to control the lump. this medicine costs about $30 a pop and as you can see it continues to be a problem.  the picture i can do in a few mins let me try to get him to sit still.

Please get the pic posted, also. please find the link for your vet on yellowpages or some site similar and please post that info here.

Once you drum up the other 300 or so I will contact your vet to make the payment, I assume I'll need your name and the dogs name as well.

As for the donation, It my pleasure!  :)

You are going to wait until you receive the bill before you donate?

Why not contact the vet directly, give your credit card, and state you authorize up to a $1,000 payment towards the treatment of the dog?  That way you can't be scammed.

Yes Vod, that is my plan, I`m waiting on the bill and then I will make it happen, as you suggested and as I mentioned a few posts earlier. Thanks for looking out though! much respect!

I may be looking to pay in bitcoin though, if I can find someone on here whos willing to take my btc and pay by CC than that would put a smile on my face even more as I like to use my BTC to help others more then I like to support Visa.

some people may be wondering why I'm doing this.. I mean its a really new account this guy has and a sob story which normally screams SCAMMER, but I got a good feeling about this one when I saw the first pics posted. I`m sure this is all un the up and up but if by chance its a scam, its a gotta be a good one to get by me.

I have had dogs my whole life, I always took in strays and shelter dogs, I once got a dog who was sick from the get-go. I spent over 10K trying to make his life better then it was which was filled with pain. In the end we lost the battle. He was born sick with major hip problems and a killer case of demodex.

Hopefully some early adopters such as myself will come through and anti up the remaining few hundred needed, either way the vet is getting a grand tomorrow.

I'll throw down a couple hundred bucks. Bitcoin only though I'm afraid, not an awful lot of access to my fiat at the moment. Am currently sitting on the rocks on Koh Samui, Chilling to some live reggae music, surrounded by all sort of pooches and puppies. It's truly paradise here!

OP: Shall I send you a donation to the address you posted or are you/we going down different route for payment now?

I'll throw 0.5 into this pot. Bobsurplus, once you have a trusted member who is making the CC payment I'll transfer directly to them, would that be simplest?

I propose any surplus funds after the op are donated to an animal charity of the OPs choice.

thanks to everyone who has been responding to this!   Just called the vet asked for another printout of the estimate will be getting that shortly and sending it to bob.   As far as the donations i do NOT need to even see a single penny from this i think the best idea like multiple people mentioned is to send the bitcoins to a trusted member who has  CC to make the payment to the Vet directly.   You guys are Amazingly Awsome!

Have they sent you the estimate yet?

I have chose forum hero member:  Maidak to make the CC payment as he volunteered to make this happen and is an animal lover as well.

Thanks to everyone who offered to help out.

Still waiting on the vets call for the estimate. I called over an hour to see whats going on and the Dr. has not had a chance to review the Estimate to ensure it's accurate for price and details.   Sitting here twiddling my thumbs .

I know how it is, Ive been there many times before.... grab a beer, smoke a joint, go for a walk, drive fast, just something to keep the nerves and anxiousness away.

Na bro, I think were good, I called the vet, all the numbers check out, and this is as legit as they come in my eyes, all you gotta do now is get richy in there and start the road to recovery.

I have contacted maidak and as soon as he pays we'll let you know and you can call to book the surgery.

Actually, what would be nice is if you can post updates and maybe photos of richy during is recovery and even after, I feel like hes part of my family now. :)

All paid estimated came out to be $1650.00 total bitcoins sent was 1.85 BTC between everyone and this was sold just now on coinbase.com

Subtotal   $1,462.48
Coinbase fee   $-14.62
Bank fee   $-0.15
Total Credit

$1,447.71

Keep the donations coming ! address is posted
so is that to the vet or did you convert is to USD ?

I paid $1650 via my CC the total BTC amount that was donated equaled out to $1447.71 after coinbase fees so if anyone would like to continue to donate please use the address provided 1XkuPpPXaM5a3EQS36BEQ6xHc4kDMXSyJ if any funds are left over after the $1650.00 I'll go ahead and donate that to a non profit animal rescue organization of your guys choice.

Do I understand this correctly, you spent 200$ of your own money to cover this?

Maybe you should use this opportunity and build upon it. I'd be down for running a non profit through this site that helps out animal rescues all over the world, drumming up donations in BTC.

Think about it, maybe we can get your vet to be the first to sign up, we can get them linked with bitpay, and maybe they can even open up a "free check up day" for those who cant afford the vet due to the btc we get donated, just rambling but I think its worth discussing.

Bob, weird that you brought that up because when i was explaining what you guys were doing for Richy and that you were complete strangers...The lady at the vets office said that was Amazing! and she mentioned that she had another patient with a torn ACu or something and they were having a hard time paying for it.    I would ABSOLUTELY love to be a part of that idea Bob and i will talk to the vets office and see if they wil let me use their name as a reference to the purpose/cause.   But woulndt we have to register with the government or something for non profit status?

That would be something i'd also like to take part in, and dont mind handling the paper work. I have a CPA who currently handles all my business stuff and i'm sure having her do this to wouldn't be an issue at all.

I think there are a bunch of ways to do this, firstly though, I think we may need to take the vet out of the equation. Lets be honest here, the vet is in it for the money, so they'll keep finding patients for us.

I think we may need to go the route of making a site where people can post about their financial situation and their pet, from there we can decide whos in need more, and then we can arrange to get their vet paid just like we did with you.

Someone would need to register a non profit if we were to do this on the up and up, for the beginning... we can go without the actual non profit, but once it grows, and I think it would then we would have to take the steps needed to be able to help more people and in a faster turnaround.

Which would include the non profit, the bank accounts, an accountant, employees, website builders, rescue agency's ect... the first step is a site where people can post about their hardship regarding the beloved pet in question. (we can use this one to start)

We would need to get on reddit, and an other social network that may help drum up donations, we also would need an escrow agent on here, Maidak, you can do this I believe.

What's our thoughts?

EDIT: I also think we should find a writer, its clear as day to me that otrkid70 and myself are nto the writing type..

So how are we going to proceed to make this thread turn into a good opportunity for many loving pet owners who find themselves in the situation that you found yourself in.

Peter, Micheal, you guys down for the cause?

So great!  We adopted an Italian Greyhound mix from a shelter last year.  They did not tell us that the mix was a pit-bull though. ;)  My husband likes to joke that our dog can run 50 miles an hour before he bites your leg. He is pretty sweet, very warm at night, and a great guard dog.  A little too much so because he really does not like my father-in-law too much.  Of course my father-in-law is the epitome of a "grumpy old man" so I guess I can't blame him too much.

Hopefully Richy's surgery goes well.  Vet bills are so expensive and I am glad there were some kind hearts on here willing to help out!

The vet just called and richy is awake and doing great. We can bring him home at 5. They removed his right salivary gland and drained the fluid. He has stitches in his neck and swelling will be an issue to watch for.  Because Richy had this condition for a while the skin on his neck will be saggy/flabby and may not return to normal because it has been stretched.  the next few weeks will tell if this is the case or not.  I will let you know later when i bring him home how he is doing.

:)

This is great news, and don't worry about the extra skin around the neck.. it will give him character.

Please post pics at some point as im sure were all wondering how he looks now!

Sent Bob and maidak a copy of the final Bill which was $1332.89   Still can't thank the donors enough for helping Richy!

Maidak the vets should be contacting you regarding totals and what you wanted to do with the balance.   If no one objects to this there is another Dog at the north adams office with a torn acu or acl and the owner was having a hard time with surgery like i posted before.   But if you guys have a better plan it's up to you.

Thanks guys will try to get better pics and keep everyone updated.

I think the right thing to do here is get maidak back his $200 first... I think whatever is left should be donated to the other dog.. it wont be much but its a start.

Hey bob Richy doing good. have to keep my eye on him all the time, he wants to scratch the hell out of the stitches.
Doesnt seem to be in pain today which is good.

Did they give him a cone to wear? or would that have just irritated the wound?

I'm happy though to see hes feeling better, do you think he'll be more active once the recovery ends, I can only assume he was not so active with the lump in his throat.

He has a cone but it sits right on top of the wound area so had to take it off.   It's weird because even with the lump he was active and playful but it caused him to hack alot because of the pressure on his throat.

Well thank god that's all in the past now, the lump is gone and hopefully no more hacking.

Stitches were due to be removed today but his Girlfriend nibbled them all out.  His Bigger scar is completely healed but his little red scar needs more time.  I want to get a pic of him doing his famous move.  He gets in the recliner and does like a handstand he stretches his legs to the top of the recliners and just does a weird move lol.  Have to see it to believe it.

Time to set up the motion detecting camera.

Not sure Bob because the payment Info (credit card) was not in my name they Can't realease any information regarding Maidaks payment.  there  was a Dog with a torn Acu or Acl in the North adams office but things might have changed since then.  I still need to talk to the Office and see if they will setup a Bitcoin Account and link it to the site. would love to see that happen.

Cool, Please keep me posted as I'd like to know how this unfolds.

would love to get a website but funds are a huge issue. I have to look into prices and since i have no clue whatsoever about Creating/maintaining a website i don't know where to turn.

If you don't have a strict deadline, I could work on the site as well as hosting at zero charge [guess you could consider it a donation of services].     :)

just bought the domain www.bitcoinsforanimals.org for a year.  I also have a user Donating VPS and Offered to help build the site!
:)

I've PMed you the nameservers to use.

Depending on your registrar (from whom you bought the domain), there should be a "Manage Domains" link somewhere and/or a "DNS Manager".  Go there, and change the nameservers to the ones in the PM (use all 5 if they give you enough fields)

I hope everyone will love it :)

I just bought 10 Aluminum Casascius coins for Auction to benefit the website.  I hope that will raise some funds and Get the Word out. Hope to have it up and running soon :P

We'll get the word out, I also have a list of people I can contact who are heavy hitters in the btc world and I'm sure they will throw some coin this way.

I'll be back on tonight after 9est and we'll chat then.

Thanks!

Hey!   I have been looking around on other sites none really stand out. Even if the site is "Standard" i would be adding pictures and stories about the next Sponsored animal to let people know where their BTC are going.  I would also have a Section of Animals that have been helped and their progress.

I'm Not a huge innovator as you can tell  lol

Opinions on the design of http://www.aspca.org/ ?  It could be nice if simplified and using the gold color scheme of Bitcoin.
Also I wanted to suggest offering donations in the way of alternate currencies (namely NobleCoin) once you're up and running, I'd gladly donate via NobleCoin.
The currency: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=402667.0
