It has been a few weeks since KittehCoin first launched and although the dev team has been doing everything they can to keep people updated there has still been some confusion so I want to give the community an update. KittehCoin is very much alive, we have been working on establishing a solid informational center of gravity in order to allow the coin to grow. At the time of the original launch, under a different developer, these resources were not in place leading to a somewhat failure to launch. Things like a wallet for Mac and populated wiki were missing. Logos were inconsistent. Then personal complications in the creator's life caused him to have to step back as the lead. Then unfortunately the coin was prematurely listed on CoinedUp leading to "dumping".

I have now stepped in as lead. My first order of duty has been establishing that informational foundation and the core services that were missing from the first launch. Regardless of others' personal opinion the coin-logo used in the first launch wasn't ideal. A new one was chosen via community selection as we try to do with most KittehCoin related decisions. Since I've taken over as lead the development team has grown to 10 people. We still have the original coin creator on board and assisting just not leading the effort. We've remedied many of the issues that were missing from the original launch, and are close to a relaunch. Because we aren't ready to relaunch just yet, here is some information on where we are at...

We are looking for miners and mining pools. Please be aware that due to the the faltered initial release and a decided upon better design there are plans to change some of the characteristics of the coin including, but not limited to: changing the block reward payout structure and/or changing the maximum amount of coins. We will have all of this information ready at the time of relaunch.

Q: What is this relaunch? What does it mean for my coins (MEOW)?
A: The initial launch lacked branding and a development team and was sparse on info and resources. The current coins, and those being mined will not be affected. The relaunch is just to provide a better foundation for growth as well as launch some new coin features and sites.

Q: What are these new wallets? If I install them will I lose my coins?
A: They are updated with the new logo, we will have another wallet update with more features alongside the relaunch. All you have to do is run the new wallet just like you did the old one, you can overwrite the old executable you will not lose your coins. They are stored in a wallet.dat file elsewhere on your computer.

Q: How can I stay updated on information/progress leading up to the relaunch?

Good thing about kitteh is that we dont need to worry about miners switching to this coin and dumping it till at least 30-40 satoshi where it hits the magical reward of about $10/day from 1000khs of power. So we should see at least 40-50satoshis from this coin in not so long future
Currently at the moment its more cost effective to buy them at those 4-5satoshis instead of mining them.

We'll see. I think MEOW should be on cryptsy but when the time is right (not just yet). The addition to CoinedUp was premature. If there have been internal discussions @cryptsy related to KittehCoin I would hope that with the relaunch they would reconsider as the entire ecosystem around KittehCoin has changed dramatically. It would be rather short sighted of them not to take another look given all the services, features, community and information that will be coming or are already released. Even if for some reason they hold off there are other exchanges like Bter and other alt-coin exchanges.

That's a good thing  ;D people should mine now before the block reward changes are put in place  :-X (being 100% upfront about that!) . There will be a bigger push to get on additional exchanges once the relaunch is officially released and in the wild (eta: less than a week at this point given all indications I'm aware of...).

+1  ::) tear down those walls before the price jump hits with relaunch... again, in an effort to be as forthcoming as possible about what is coming - we will be changing the coin parameters in terms of block reward and/or max coins with the relaunch so the value of existing coins will definitely be impacted. so wuts the difference between kittehcoin and catcoin?

Catcoin = scrypt based close of bitcoin, almost exactly from what I know of it (but I don't mine it nor am I an authoritative source on it)

KittehCoin = scrypt based coin, no relation to CatCoin at all. More equivalent to DOGE but with less total coins. Also different reward structures and unlike other coins KittehCoin has unique features planned which make it stand out, more than just changing the coin parameters. The first feature slated to launch (after adjusting block rewards) is what we call "coincontrol". More info on that feature as we get closer to launch. Also merged mining is on the roadmap, another item CatCoin (and many other altcoins) will never see.

TBH, unless you are seeing regular updates from the devteam around a coin (like with KittehCoin) its probably just another clone-coin with no roadmap or innovations planned. We are trying to actually innovate while having fun here.

Fortunately, things seem to go better last hour, so I switched my miner back to MEOWs.

There aren't many pools and a few have had some hiccups which has lead to fluctuation in the network but things are ramping back up and the relaunch hasn't actually happened yet. The devs are just making absolutely sure that everything is above-board and highly visible so that people can be confident that this is a legitimate cryptocurrency that wasn't pre-mined and isn't just a pump-n-dump scam.

I think you're going to be glad you're mining it... I just kind of wish I was able to have another week or three mining at a difficulty of 1.

^^^^ This is 100% accurate. We have not relaunched yet but are hard at work on it. I'm going to reiterate that the COIN PARAMETERS WILL CHANGE WITH RELAUNCH. We have almost all the details worked out and I will post the updated coin spec PRIOR to relaunch just to be completely, 100% upfront with everyone. This spec-change has been called out multiple times everywhere I can think of just to be as upfront as possible. These changes are needed to ensure the long term health of the coin+blockchain; if you run the current numbers you'd find they are out of whack and it would take ~30yrs to mine all the MEOW available.

As jurassicfrog mentioned we are trying to be as above-board as possible. No one on the dev team is being paid (not even in MEOW), everyone is doing this voluntarily and there is/was no premine. My advice is mine/buy now before the spec change and don't sell!  8) There are also new, unique features coming with the relaunch; more info on that coming as soon as I'm 100% sure they will be ready for relaunch.

We are really pushing for this coming Monday 1/27 but that is not 100%, might be one more week. I will post an update Saturday with more specifics as I'll have a better idea of where we are at with things at that time. We want to make sure we do this right. We have almost all the core stuff in place and are working on implementing a major innovation in the 0.8.6 client prior to relaunch. I'll be working on this feature more Friday (busy with ancillary services and support today, and research tomorrow). So based on how things go Friday I will post Saturday letting everyone know how things are going and what to expect.

Also, once the final revised coin-spec is approved by the team I will post it as a new announcement, trying to be as open as possible with what is coming in the relaunch. To be honest I need to spend more time coding and less time replying to all these forum posts but I don't want people to think anything shady is going on or that I've "vanished". So I've been replying to posts for the last hour...

Just to clarify to everyone we are pushing hard for the relaunch to be on the 27th but realistically it may slip as far as 2/3 (one more week). We will keep the community posted as we gain more clarity on a "hard" launch date

We are working on offloading more of the social tasks (these forum posts, twitter, facebook, contests, etc) to other members of the devteam so that I can focus on coding. You may not here from me for a day or two but I'll be lurking. I'll chime in if someone is posting misinformation of course, as I always do ;)

I know that pushing the date isn't preferable but its much better than launching new features that are not stable, we want to make sure your MEOW iz always safe, so that is what we're going to do.

The issues is frontend related. You can check later in block list - there you will see actual time. We know this issue and it should be fixed today. It does not effecting shares calculations or block finding times. Only  had latency of updating found block's

We have DDOS up for now - and block update takes longer. You can see actual block % time in block table.

RRound eeerrrr something begin .. We are on constant attack from worldwide IP addresses. So far we good, only time from time getting delays on Blocj ID and shares calculation. Registrations are closed ATM.

 I keep getting the errors:

"collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status"
"make: *** [kittehcoin-qt] Error 1"

When trying to build the qt from the GitHib source. Please can someone help?

I've built the bitcoin, litecoin, quark, coinye and other wallets with no problem. Any hep would be greatly appreciated.

Do not use same passwords and PIN number across the pools. We have user already with fund's stolen - as Password and pin was compromised! That is single case atm, and not related to our server security.
