I think it depends on your country. There are some countries especially in Africa that higher education (certificate) is given priority over your practical experience or technicality, in that case, higher education is important.
However, in a situation where a country doesn't care about your certificate but what you can offer, them, higher education might not be necessary.
But generally in my own opinion, higher education is very important at least one.

When I was younger, I thought so little about graduating from university because I thought a degree isn't that necessary to become successful in life. But, after I dropped out and went on with my career, I had realized that not having a degree can be an obstacle to lots of opportunities.

So I went back to school and obtained a degree. It isn't outstanding at all but it still helps me with what I need. But more and most importantly, a degree is not the only thing you get from school. Your friends and all those experiences, either good or bad, are what truly will enrich your life in the long run.

In my country the bachelor's degree is the primary certification to get a full time job in corporations. But how much you'll get paid definitely  depend on your performance.

Nowadays I don't think you need to be bright, just have the interest-will-passion and a decent brain.

Professionals, bosses, inventors, scientists, artists: most of them in these times are highly educated. There are those who dont go to college anymore and pursue a vocational course or just immediately get a job after high school, and these are good too. It balances out everything. If I had it to do all over again, I would have ditched college and saved my money.  I honestly think I would have been better off investing the money I put towards college into the market.  I know it was meant to be an investment on myself, but really, I didn't gain all that much from college.  it was an extension of high school to me.  now, if you're going to be a doctor, surgeon, something very specific like that, then yes.  I consider that a trade, and you're going to school to learn that very specific trade.  but to go to school to get an overall general view about many things... nah, save your money.

Yes, it is still important if you want to be in the professional field in which the hiring requires applicants to have a degree. It will still be like that until the hiring standard change.

A lot of it depends on what you want to go into when you are older.  Going to college wasn't really a choice for my.  My parents pretty much put me on that track because they didn't go themselves and that is what I did.  I don't regret it, but it didn't necessarily get me any farther ahead in life.  I have a friend that has zero college and she is the manager of a successful title company.  She makes more than my wife does and my wife has a Masters degree.  If I hadn't went to college, I probably would have went into something like HVAC technician and I would probably still be making more than I am today.  I know people who are doing the whole apprenticeship thing to be an electrician or plumber will be making huge amounts of money when they are finished.

I had completed my studies, and now i don't need again, because i am degree holder. But i suggest to students, should complete your study because without study you cant' do anything. We should see those people who are uneducated they are just survive their life, they can't do jobs and people never give respect for those persons who have no education.

I don’t believe in school systems either, numbers do not measure a person’s intellect and knowledge. We are all different and we excel in our own unique ways — if only the society can see this, sadly no. Educational attainment is important in some countries, it is a basis if you’re qualified for a job or any responsibility. I think it’s good but the common problem is discrimination of the attainment plus the attended school. Some employers offer higher salary to those who went to prestigious schools, rather than give them to employees whom are scholars at public/unknown schools. I believe that higher education is very useful for anyone, for a variety of reasons:

- you learn more things
- the higher the education is (Bachelor, Master, Ph. D.), the greater your specialization gets
- you have more chances for a good job
- you'll have more respect from others
- you'll be smarter
- you may have various advantages from your local laws -- for example, in Romania, the bachelor graduates in Computer Science don't have to pay some taxes.

Excepting all these, having a higher education now is way easier than before. In Romania, at least, after private universities appeared, only those which didn't want a bachelor diploma didn't get one. In the past, only state universities were here (meaning they were created by the govern) and it was very hard to be accepted. At some of them (Computer Science or Medicine) there used to be even 50 candidates for a single spot. But after private universities appeared, it was more simple. All you had to do was to pay the admission tax and you were accepted. No admission exam was needed. Professors were also accepting the students which were missing their classes, thus you only had to be present at your exams. Practically, there are so many bachelors and masters in Romania, that you'd think this country is full with genius people, but they are only average ones which paid to be accepted, copied during exams and obtained their diplomas. I don't know the situation in other countries, how hard or easy is to have a higher education, but I certainly advise everyone to go as far as possible with schooling.

Not having had the funds nor the opportunity to get a higher education, I would absolutely have loved to have been able to. Where I'm from, children are normally taught different kinds of trades by those they serve as apprentice. Once they serve their masters for certain period of time, they are rewarded with new businesses or/and with money. Lots of the kids end up doing really well in their trading careers.
I think this should be balance though. They can combine basic formal education with the apprenticeship. You teach them basic things in life like reading/writing, religion, basic maths, civic, health education etc

I was excellent student in high school and the college, but didn't finish my degree because there was family reasons.. However, until now there wasn't a problem in my job that i currently left and the new job that i started. It depends on the profession. For example, if you take the profession of a web designer, then there are a thousand courses that you can take in a couple of months and start working in it. This question will always be difficult. My parents told me all my life that higher education is very important. I was told that if I didn't have a diploma, then I would become nobody. Even though I know that I could use it to be professional I don't think that I really need it and here are my reasons.
1. I decided to be a full time crypto earner or self employed to have much time on my hand.
2. I want to spend as much time as I could with my family so studying higher education would consume most of my time.
3. Instead of paying for tuition and requirement why not use it as investment or capital for business.

In my country there are so many millionaire or say even few billionaires who in terms of education might ot be even high school pass but still running the business successfully for years. Well, if you are asked to choose between talents and certificates, and the success of your company depends on this, I wouldn't be surprised if most intelligent employers go for talented workers whether they have certificate or not. What matter the most is who can get the job done.
I actually wouldn't emphasize on certificate/paper qualification for my business.

It depends on what profession, if it's medical or legal, then yes, here you need a higher education. But for creative professions I think higher education is not necessary. But the most important thing is that you chose the direction, not parents or friends :)

you need a degree to practije many jobs for example lawyer, engineer , architecht. you cant be born smart with the knowledge how to build a skyscraper or how to program in certain languages. so yes i think you must have a degree even if you dont apply  it on your job , graduating from a prestige univesity isnt so easy so its a privilage having degree

i think nowadays PhD or some degrees like this does not that works. you can get professional from a lot of different ways. such as using MOOCs. internet has changed everything.

Sure, it is important, but I cannot understand why it needs to be so expensive.
I mean, I get why it's important - to get a good education. But it makes me so sad that so many children cannot afford to go to a public college. Yes, there are scholarships and loans, but these still have to be paid back.

There are so many kids who don't even finish high school because they have to work to help support their families. And I just cannot believe that the government would allow so many kids to go without a quality education and then hold it against them. I feel like they need to start seriously evaluating colleges and working to make them affordable for more people.

There's a huge difference between having a Ph.D. or any degree but it's also true that someone can be a professional without having that.
