Title: Feelings about being hacked.
Post by: Mary Ofosuhene on June 01, 2018, 05:20:15 AM
It was a miserable day for me after someone denied me of my laughter and smiles. My first time I had a huge token worth about $1500 from participating in a bounty. I remember I had toiled enough within weeks partaking in one bounty so as to make something nice and someone from nowhere just hacked my wallet and took the tokens away. Infact, I felt like I have been robbed of my gold since that token was my 1st token which was worth $1500. Share how you felt on when your 1st valuable altcoin was hacked from your wallet.

I was fooled once by phishing because I haven't had sleep yet. It's good that it got nothing in it. So we always need to prioritize security of our accounts.

how can your wallet be hacked, while only you know the private key? is there anyone else who knows your private key or you share it publicly? you may also be exposed to phing attacks when you log into a site.

but I regret that we can not help you to regain your assets, stay patient and keep up the spirit in working.

That must be very sad, and also it can make a lesson for us. To be more careful in keeping the wallet.
I want to ask, where do you store tokens? have you ever provided a private key?

A disappointing and sad occurrence. How can your wallet be hacked? Are you not careful and securing your personal wallet keys? I can only suggest you should be more careful and improve the security of your wallet, because hackers will always lurk in various ways.

It may seem hard to believe, but still, I wasn't ever hacked, I did got my money stolen by exchanges but never hacked.

Also, if you do everything right, it is impossible to get hacked, so on this matter, the reason of the hack and money lost is you not being cautious enough.

Sorry for your lose, I recommend you look at this incident as looking at an investment - you invested 1500$ in crypto coins security training.

And my question is, what wallet did you use? Haven't you noticed if you have entered such phising sites? Or have you ever opened an email pretending to be your wallet website's administrator or something? It must be very tragic since it was your first tokens from a bounty. With all your efforts been wasted, I remembered my experienced being scammed by a bounty manager here. It was also my first and it is also my miserable days when you figured out that you have been scammed. Well, this is to warn us to be more careful and more vigilant.

Since I never been hacked, but my wife's wallet has been hacked, but not all the token only those he / she think will have a great potential. We are very sad to happen and thinking how it happen my wife never expose her private key. A big question that we never know the answers. Right now she works hard again to recover her loss profits for our future.

What have happened? Why were you hacked then? I'm sorry to hear your story. Fortunately, I was never been hacked but I think I know how it feels to be in your situation.
I'm just curious. What bounty project did you participate that has given you that much reward? It's pretty rare for me to know someone of your rank earning that much from a single bounty.

Which wallet did you used for storing your tokens? There is no one to blame here but yourself. As a holder of any cryptocurrency we are the one that should secure it. For the longest time that I've been here in this market. I never experienced that the cryptocurrency I hold got hacked or stolen because I always make sure that I will store it in a wallet and devices that I'm confident that is not infected by viruses or malware. If you are careless then surely it wont take long that your tokens will disappear.

so pity. it proves the importance of using hardware wallets. you can buy a trezor wallet or ledger nano for less than 100 usd. and all your tokens would be safe in this way. there are so many different type of trojans and viruses nowadays. and antivirus softwares are not capable to detect each of them. so any computer is not safe at all.

very sad but this can be a lesson for us all that do not just put a wallet address, do not just login login before login the correct web address to avoid phishing because hacking wallet it sounds impossible but indeed if it hacked may not yet sustenance you. still the spirit will someday be replaced with a larger one

Fortunately, I can not share my emotions, because with me this case was not. Usually a purse MyEtherWallet hacked when a user inadvertently enters a fake website. Save the wallet website to bookmarks, this will avoid possible problems in the future.

I have never been hacked, I make sure that my wallets are properly secured, unless the site gets hacked which has not affected m yet but if someone hacked my wallet than I know that I would feel very bad about it, especially if they took the coins that I got from bounties which took me weeks of work to get. It would be a very sad experience, I hope I never go through it. I'm sorry you lost your coins.

Analyze your actions recently. You must understand how this happened. If you don't understand the reason for the hacking then this may happen in the future. Where did you leave your private keys? What sites U registered? Do you use MetaMask?
Look at the wallets of other bounty members, do they have tokens in their purses or have they also disappeared? Was there any tricky contract used to enumerate the tokens?

The OP probably victim of phishing sites or you wrongly input your private-key when you register on the campaign because some users input their private-key instead of Ethereum address. I have not experience any loss of token and hopefully never but some friends have been hacked before. just be careful on the link or site you visit to avoid hackers to have access on your personal info or your device that you are using.

Terrible thing. I recommend to buy a Ledger Nano S. at the moment - this is the most reliable protection. Well, in addition to always use Metamask for token transactions.

That's very sad. But It's a lesson learned also. One should always be extra careful in managing their private keys as a cryptocurrency holder because we know how hard and what are the effort being done to earn that value. It is very painful if hacking will happen.

Yeah it must feels so bad to lose something that cost quite a lot that's why i feel like security and awareness is the most important thing as crypto user so i buy nano ledger to improve the security for my crypto assets, it is just around $100 and it gives you improved security and you don't have to worry anymore about getting hacked as you have to confirm on your ledger if there is outgoing transaction.

Even if I didn't experience it myself I felt bad for you since you've worked hard for it, spend some time and effort bounty hunting and it just goes down to the hands of the hacker. I just didn't exactly know why are you even hacked? Have you been phished? or have you left or given your private keys to anyone you know? This is so frustrating when our hard earned money be gone to waste. I really want all hackers to be gone and be put behind bars. They just can't stop taking money from people. I just couldn't understand why these guys won't find a decent job and earn a living? Hope these guys will rot in hell.

Since it can't be returned and i will try to focus to get another coin. It seems you have not yet realized there is something wrong with yourself or your computer.
Remember try to check your computer regularly and make sure your computer is clean from the malware. and never try to download any suspicious data or program. your life is not stopped when your token have stolen by scammer.

And that is so annoying moment in your life and i don't want to experience like that. When i've got my first rewars in doing bounty campaign i secure anything from my wallet and my usb wallet which is ledger, yeah i buy ledger to put all important details or folder in my crypto world so that there's no possibility that my wallet was hacked by someone.

This kind of things really happens we can not do something about it when it happens already, Even if we grieve for our lost it will just make us sick and think about it more and stress might build up I really think this kind of scenario have cause certain people to get depressed, There isn't any solution if you get hacked but there are kind of things you can do to prevent it.

I think i am not the right person to answer this one as i never got robbed or hacked with my wallet anytime soon. Im not sure what makes people go crazy and what they really do until the time when they get hacked. The wallet management in the crypto currency is very easy stuff as all you have to do is to store your private keys somewhere confidential so that no one can get hands on it. Thats all mate?
If you had done that already then you could have just made it right in time and thoe 1500 bucks could have been yours.

That is why we have to be extra careful with our accounts. We shpuld start from securing our passwords and updating it regularly.

I know how you feel............ Since 2012 i clicked A LOT OF faucets, i earned almost 3000 dollar. It took me so much work...
I decided to put al my coins on my bittrex-account. But a few weeks ago somebody hacked me and stole all my coins.
I feel robbed...just like you.....and also feel words who aren`t not appropriate to type!
Best tip i can give: use 2FA-identication !!!
For me to late, because i tought hackers are not interessted in me because i don`t have much.
Feel for you!

I have never got hacked, and I wish I never will. But of course I will be mad and sad, and whatever. But first thing I will do is, create new wallet, and move all my remaining assets to the new wallet. On most case our wallet are hacked because we give or expose our private key, to phising site, you can use metamask so it wont happend again.

I am worried about the security of my tokens and therefore I have protected myself from scams as much as possible. The benefit of this does not need something extraordinary, but simply follow the simple rules. For tokens I use Linux, I use plugins that advises the website myetherwallet to log on using a JSON file, once again not go into the purse and use this for etherscan or ethplorer.

Sad for those who experienced being hacked.  But I'm glad for myself that I was and never will be a victim of hacking. Hacking is a crime, but why someone likes to do it? because of the prize behind that doing. If you hacked an account for example like that wallet with $1500 worth of token then it's easy money than doing bounty and wait for couple of weeks to have it. Hacking is just a quick and easy simple thing for hacker. But the security of your wallet is in your hand. Make sure not to be a victim of different kind of hacking. Be careful in filling online forms and downloading files online. Hacker will do anything just to have what they want if they find it as income or a good target.

Security is very important.

I was hacked once through Teamviewer.  They were stupid though and I had a little bit of luck.  I have several PCs and laptops, and used to mine a lot.  I had Teamviewer installed on all my computers because I was lazy. I didn't want to run up and down stairs just to check my mining equipment, it was in my basement.  As a bonus I could monitor from work.  I was able to keep my personal laptop at my desk and open.  One day I noticed some activity on my laptop screen at work.  Someone had gained access to it through my Teamviewer account.  I could see a file transfer in progress.  They got a bitcoin wallet file, but luckily it was protected with a password.  I slammed the lid shut and called home and told my wife to unplug the router, don't ask questions do it now.  She did, thankfully.

In the end the hacker got nothing, but I still felt scared.  I changed my teamviewer password, uninstalled it from everything and now I don't even sign into anything on my machines that mine or hold my wallets.

To the hacker compromising my MEW, may God have mercy on your soul.

It can either be that you have exposed your private key or you have logged in to a phishing website. Be careful of phishing websites.. usually the website that you'll log in to will provide a link, hinting that it should be similar to the link that you have just visited.. one particular example is MyEtherWallet. Mew often gives out a warning before you can even log in to your account.. you should always double check if the encoded words in the URL are similar to those that are provided by the legitimate website.

we need to think people need to be aware of security, that number is huge, but I want to know how you are hacked, hacks do not just happen unless you do something ridiculous. Phishing links are common and I've seen people lose their funds because they're looking for free stuff.

I feel sorry for you, hope you got better compensation in the future. I think we should have always be careful in online world and not to reveal any secrets that could be used against our will. Also always check web address name and security certificate when you want to visit sensitive websites such as MEW, paypal etc.

In your case, Security plays a big role. I bet it's MyEtherWallet that has been hacked, there are lots of issues in MyEtherWallet and we should be very careful when we are accessing it. I symphatize with you because I experienced it as well but in a different manner. I am holding a volume of CRC token and I decided to sell it for about 0.1 BTC, when my sell order has been filled the internal wallet restricted the withdrawal and after days of waiting the head developer decided to shutdown their website with my 0.1 BTC :-\. That is the most frustrating and stressful situation that ever happened in my crypto life. Sad life.

Terrible thing. I recommend to buy a Ledger Nano S. at the moment - this is the most reliable protection. Well, in addition to always use Metamask for token transactions.

I honestly never got hacked, Some people might have tried to try accessing my address whatsoever but they fail miserably, I usually put multiple layer protection to my wallet even I encrypt my private key if I have and then put it into a hardware without internet connection But I know how it felt being hacked, for the next time, you need to consider any possible additional security What I worried about this is when Internet of Things era started, people are still unaware about their own security, there's few company that offers the idea of implementing unbreakable, foolproof user authentication to protect users, employees, and company’s data from cyber attacks like what REMME offers, but so many people never get to know that such service existed. So, a basic education regarding the importance of security is a must for people nowadays.

I have never been hacked before, but I have encountered a phishing site before and it actually worked well for them. The email came in a form of an airdrop and I was asked to calculate the number of tokens I will earn right away. The token was a popular that was worth $4 each. So after calculating and realizing that I was about getting almost 2000 tokens, nothing wise came to my mind any longer. I gave them anything they asked, and you can guess what happened next.

Those getting hacked people maybe not be careful of what they had, I personally never get hack because of I care and read first before entering the correct URL in a search bar. Easy to determine the phishing site it's up to you if you are lazy not to look at carefully and review the site repeatedly.
Perhaps those signing in getting airdrop token must careful on that, remember don't share to anyone your private key you must keep that in a safe place that you think no one knows.,

This is one of the examples of threats that can possibly thwart the currency. The reason why cryptocurrency is decentralized is that they want us to be responsible. Responsible enough to take care of our withholdings. That being said, Always take precautions when posting stuff, especially when giving personal information.

Right, security is first priority. No high security impact our account can be hacked so easily. So dont forget to set your security.
We need to do anything to protect our account. Not go to phising link or just simply click untrusted source. Its too dangerous. I know the feeling will be eventhough i never get hack so far and i will always keep my awareness.

Good thing that was just from airdrop but still I wasted time participating to it too just like bounty. I feel like losing hope at that time deciding to stop participating airdrops anymore after a series of tokens being taken away like B2BX, btc2x, LGR and many more that is why I transferred all the remaining tokens right away to new MEW before the hacker can steal it all.

Its sad to hear that, maybe next time you should be more careful on joining any airdrop. because some airdrop need your private key which is very obvious that it is a scam. think of your private key is like a password on your account. or maybe you access a site which is a phishing site just like myetherwallet there is a site that like mew which is a phishing. you should check the URL you are accessing MEW. or to be more safe you should use metamask.

And the fact that you can’t do anything about it and can not get it back makes it even worse. Maybe he moved the wrong address, so the new coin is lost, but the wallet system is not so easy to be attacked. But first we have to carefully check the address of the wallet.

I was hacked once. Unfortunately, or fortunately, it was my own fault, I do not blame anyone else, especially my mistake. I used one password twice, on one site there was a data leak, the second was cracked through the merged password databases.

I have never got hacked, and I wish I never will. Obviously I will be distraught and pitiful, and whatever. Yet, first thing I will do is, make new wallet, and move all my residual advantages for the new wallet. On most case our wallet are hacked in light of the fact that we give or uncover our private key, to phising site, you can utilize metamask so it wont happend once more.
