To be clear: this is a 5-chip unit, so it will hash scrypt at 5 x 300KH/s, right ?

Each chip hashes at ~70 KH/s so this 5-chip unit hashes at ~300-350 KH/s.

If you look at the single chip USB, that's the speed listed and reported by the testers.

Is it? 5x300Kh/s is 1500Kh/s.

Each GridChip does about 70kh/s so a unit with 5 chips should do 70kh/S * 5 = about 350kh/s

Is the .405BTC just for the mining units?  Or do we also get things like the controller, PSU, all needed cables, USB hub, etc?

dude all you need is a USB cable if they don't already include it.

I don't believe that to be the case...these units draw a significant amount of power...please review the last few pages of the litecointalk thread (https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=13314.0).  The user TheMage, did a review of these devices.  He needed to splice wires in order to get this connected to his PSU. I don't have a spare PSU, and I'd like to use the "controller" this is supposed to come with to help cut down over all power usage.

Thus, it seems theres a "controller" module which can manage up to 20 of these devices...it would be nice to know if this is included in the price or not...

Additionally, I don't have a 10 port powered USB hub laying around...so if it's not part of this purchase price, I'd like to know so I can buy one and how much it costs in addition to the .405BTC/device...

So if this offer includes all the extra bits and pieces to get 10 of these up and running, then its still pricey but much better than having to shell out even more $ to buy all the ancillary parts.

I don't believe that's accurate...all the threads covering this exact product seem to indicate power consumption at much higher values...go read asiabtc's thread here (https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=13314.0).  All these group buys are selling the same devices...and the "lowest" power operation for this would be to run only in scrypt mode at 8 watts and 60 watts for "dual" mode...So yes, you do need some kind of power supply...hence the reason TheMage (in that same thread) had to splice wires and connect it to his computer's PSU.

Now for those that are talking about the control module. If you have a windows computer then you don't need a controler.
They come with a usb cable and power cable.
I am finding out right now exactly what they need to be powered.

If you want to dual mine, you need the wiibox (controller) plus a relay unit (handles frequent reboots) and more power either USB hubs or PSU.  The units not utilizing the wiibox are only mining sycript.

My math might be wrong but I'm seeing 0.002 BTC/day with 160kh/s. This is 350kh/s, so 0.004 BTC/day. It will take you 100 days to recoup the investment (assuming difficulty doesn't rocket). Am I missing something - is there some reason why this is a great deal?

Cheaper than rig power, also I can see these prices dropping anyhow.

First ones always pay more.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of cheaper R9's and 79's soon.

Fair enough but it still seems iffy.  It will be awesome if R9's and 79's drop. I need a new gaming rig

Ok doing some more calculations these miners shouldn't really be more than 0.25BTC if folks want to recoup their investment :(

Do you know how many of these you can run off a USB hub?  I have one on order, but wondering if I add more, how that's going to work with power.  All the 10 and 20 unit vids I can see have some type of PSU powering them, not a USB hub.  I plan to get more, so would like to start getting the pieces I need in place.  if I can just connect 10 of these to a USB hub, sounds good, but I don't think that's going to work?

Looks like each puck will use about 6w of power, from what I can see, 10x of them use 60w in scrypt mode.  So if you are running one or two off a USB port, probably going to be fine, if you want to run many of these, you will need some form of PSU.

Anyone know what recommended PSU is used with these if you want to start with 1x and move up to 4x or more?

I have done a lot of searching and haven't been able to get a straight answer on what I need to use my unit when it comes.  I've seen conflicting information about what can power these.

I am planning on running this unit in LTC mode only.  Some people have suggested the USB is enough to power the device in LTC only mode?  Is this true?

If not, what kind of PSU do you need to power it?  Some sort of AC adapter?  Molex?  I have a PSU powering 2 cubes that has more than enough power to run this although I would not like to splice wires if there's any way around it.

So far I have a 10 port powered USB hub (Rosewill), the USB cables and a Windows PC to run the DualMiner software.

What else do I need?  Am I going to have to splice PSU cables or is there a AC adapter for sale somewhere?  If so any links would be appreciated so I can buy what I need now and have the unit running as soon as it arrives.  I have a bunch of DHUB-H7 power adapters that aren't being used as well.

Thank you in advance and if I missed a topic that covers this a link would be appreciated.

Seems like user hashware already has these and posted a few clips of the devices...assuming this GB is the same as what he ordered and shows in his videos, it looks like it comes with PSU, the devices, and various cables...I think the only thing I didn't see in that video was a powered 10port USB hub.

I hope it still comes with the power supply if you ordered 1 unit since it looks like when this guy hooked it up to a 12V PSU it fried his unit!

Is it new firmware or is a new board which just has 2x as many chips on it?  I was under the impression that Gridseed was going to create a new board with more chips (thus reach higher hash numbers) and drop it into a typical ATX style case...Am I completely mistaken???

I don't know..I paid 3.44BTC (~$2750USD) so I presume when I get them I'd pay import duties?  I don't know the rules for having stuff sent from China to the US.  I havent' got the package yet so I don't know...this is the first time ever I've had something sent to me from outside the US...so its a whole new adventure.

For those asking about power.
here is the power supply that is used in the photo's and is a fairly standard industrial power supply 30 Amp will drive 5
in either mode. and be safe. if you are going to stay in scrypt mode exclusively .5 amps per unit can safely run more
than probably be secured without connection issues. (could in theory connect 60 although I always allow 10% on continuous rating)

http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Regulated-Switching-Computer-Project/dp/B00D7CWSCG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392141141&sr=8-1&keywords=power+supply+12v+30amp

This power supply will allow you to run 15 at full power.  (slightly more actually)

http://www.amazon.com/Meanwell-Switching-Power-Constant-Ledwholesalers/dp/B007K4XZPG/ref=pd_rhf_dp_s_cp_5_YDA1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0EKYF1P7NQRC16GCXEE6

Would be interesting to see the power draw on the new firmware to allow for calcultions on a power supply:) although the 30 amp one would
be a very safe range if staying on scrypt, I don't see it going above 12 watts per unit. at that you could drive 27 without issue.

BTW a fairly standard laptop power supply would drive one of these.

Here is a wonderful question...

I assume you are ordering a min of 10 because they are sold in 10 qty with a controller like all the other listings from Gridseed resellers?

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/world-first-GridSeed-litecoin-bitcoin-miner-fast-shipping/1625115981.html

If someone buys a 10 qty will you also be sending the other pieces or are you buying them as individual miners?

Thank you very very much sir.  I have been trying to figure out how I'm going to power this unit for days.  I sprung for the 12V30A as I would like to purchase a few additional units down the line.

You said a fairly standard laptop power supply would drive one of these.  Did you mean the Gridseed unit or the power supply itself?

What do I need to drive the power supply?  I don't see a standard plug on the power supply in the pictures I have seen of people mining with these.  I have seen two (sometimes three) wires connected to the AC.  I assume I need something else to take the power from the wall into those AC inputs.  What do I need to power the 12V 30A power supply from the wall?  (I'm in the US if it helps on the type of power brick I need).

Sorry if these questions seem ridiculous.  I've been mining for a while first with USBs on MinePeon and now with cubes connected to the GS800 Corsair power supply.  However, this Gridseed unit has been a jump above my knowledge.  If you could link me to what I need I would appreciate it.  Also if you could PM me an address I'd like to send you a small tip.

That is it.  Thank you so much demonmaestro.  I didn't notice in the link you sent me that the power supply cord had the ends split.  I thought it was a standard ATX power supply cord.

Hopefully this information helps out everyone trying to figure out how to power their units once they arrive.

What is the deadline for batch 2 payment and expected delivery of batch 2? I'm in for 2 ASIC scrypt miners. Collecting coins, should be capable to pay today or latest tomorrow. Should I speed up?

so far still waiting for batch 1 miners to come in. the distributor should be getting them in here soon and then off to me.
So as far as a deadline there is not one as of yet. But that can change quick. All depends on when the distributor lets me put in a batch 2 order.

sorry to take so long had a doctor appt today.

1st answer would be to drive the grid seed.
I see Demonmaestro answered the question on what power cord is needed.
(DON'T do A two wire only connection, make sure to connect ground and the neutral and hot) on the incoming power.

on the power cable from the site Demonmaestro pointed to.  the boxes would have L N and the ground symbol. Ground goes to green, N to white and L to Black.

run them is the psu that i put on the main op.
If you are going to run them off of a windows machine then just plug the cable in the usb slot.

they were 0.472 for batch 1.

although with BTC dropping the price had to go up.

2 questions for you. First, if plugging these into a windows do they require a separate power supply for each unit or,can I just use a powered usb hub. Second, how many of these can be ran from a windows machine, third, is there a modified cgminer that will utilize these?

Thanks in advance.

demonmaestro,

I held off sending BTC specifically because of all the craziness these last few days... I am still interested in 1 unit but now I am in a better position to just pay with PayPal.

Please try not to lock the order before giving us a heads up as to when you are about to send payment and get this batch ordered. I would like to pay you when you know you can send the order in.

I will PM you as well.

Yes they require a separate PSU. Well windows limit is 100 something usb devices. :o  No it uses a modified version of CPU miner.

Nothing prevents me from running with the cash and BTC however I have no need to do that. Besides a little research over my SN and it won't take long for someone to find out who I really am. I am not trying to hide who I am.  ;)  8)

Can't explain the price differences either. :(

No it can't mine anything but "straight" scrypt should work (i.e. LTC, DOGE, and any others in the LTC-based scrypt family).

Well as long at the price dont drop below $575 I will be able to absorbe the weight.

Mt.Gox What is that.. :o (scaristac responce)
I dont deal with Mt.Gox so I really dont care. The prices that effect this is CoinBase/BitStamp.

Okay guys I am getting tired of waiting for these things to ship to me SO i can ship them to ya. (I am sure ya are too.)

Here is the plan.

If I don't get any units in or hear anything about shipping to me with in 2 weeks i will do the following.

Batch 1: has been paid for awhile back. I will request refund from distributor on this.
Batch 2: Will start refunding.

I will send out a Mass PM out when this will happen.
If funds are not retrived with in said date. Those funds will be considered donations.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Refund start date if hear nothing on details for shipping is Friday March 7, 2014 (1400 CST - 2:00pm CST)
You will have till Sunday March 9, 2014 (1400 CST - 2:00pm CST)

So you finally got an update from them on shipping? I have ordered a few direct as well and I have to say the communication is really poor directly from the manufacturer. I am trying to contact them about setting up a US distributor to handle Importing, Support and Shipping to North America.

Received my Gridseed miner today as promised by zoomhash... ordered Thursday afternoon around 11 AM CST, got shipping confirmation about 6 PM CST and it arrived on my doorstep today at noon EST.

I would include pics and hashing info but sadly they were sold out of power supplies to include with this shipment so I had to buy it off eBay... it arrives Monday.

I also received 2 units from zoomhash but he did not send the USB cable like he promised in his listing on eBay and the web site.  This may cost him on his feedback as when I messaged him he said it was a mistake and I'd just have to buy them elsewhere.  EDIT:  Zoomhash apologized for the mistake and reimbursed me in BTC for the USB cables.

I have the 2 units up and running and have everything ready for the one I will receive from this group buy (hopefully soon).

The units I have are hashing great.  They are the gold fin ones.

I had ordered another batch of 10 which showed up today but without all the accessories so I was able to put together some power cables and USB cables and get 5 up running tonight. Once i get the cables I ordered ill have them all up and i can add the ones i am getting from this group buy to the  extra 10 port hub connected to one of my miners doing GPU Scrypt mining I have both running right now with no issues. Other then a small issue with the first modified CPU miner not disabling the BTC core and drawing way to much power I was able to get them up and mining within 15 min after I had all the right links and software to gether

Ugg, the power supply I ordered in the same order showed up today.

Mine came today with the power cable and the USB cable.

It's up and hashing with the other ones I have and now I have an extra power cable.  I was out of microUSBs so the inclusion of the cables was a very nice touch and much appreciated!

i got my two today, awesome job DM!, wired up some cables off of molex, and hooked it up.  Not sure if these are like the usbs that need to be selected to hash for ltc only?  I'm using the new multiminer and the bfgminer with gridseed support, they appear to be hashing, have 16 and 14 shares accepted on each respectively after a few minutes.

I am using  --set-device gridseed:clock=800.  i had it set for 850 like others i read, but it appeared to be generating errors.  What are others running their's on?  I started it stock and it was like 250-270ish which seemed low, at 800 they are at reporting 340khs, and no errors at the moment.

Do you need to firmware update these, link someone?

I got mine on a Raspberry pi on bfgminer. I am getting some hardware errors but on the pool they are a solid 350kh/s sometimes more. at a clock of 850. and not a lick of heat.
