Title: Hashrate and GPU load falling .. please help
Post by: heretolearn on February 06, 2014, 06:55:01 AM
Hi,
I have 3 cards running 280x x 2 and 7950 x 1 ... for both my 280x the hashrate falls once in about 10-15 mins by 50-100 khps ... my GPU-z also shows voltage fluctuation and GPU loading fluctuation. Both 280x are new. and running at abouit 77-79 C.

What should I do ?

My PSU = 1200 W .. you think that could be the problem ?

I dont want to damage my cards/machine ... please help.

If you use some monitoring programs like GPU-Z on MSI Afterburner it's drop hashrate every time when sensors polled.
Turn off any monitoring programs who access GPU and check

1200 W is enough for 3 cards.

Also some activity  on PC with videocards can lead to hashrate fluctuations. Like watching videos.

Well being 1200 watts is one thing, the quality of the PSU is another. If he has a poor maker of a PSU then that could be part of the problem also. High wattage PSU =/= steady strong current.

Yes I do notice it that when I start GPU-z it loses a bit of hashrate ... but then GPU-z goes in the background and does not refresh .. why does it lose hashrate then ? Also I am not watching any movies/doing any work that would cause the hashrate to drop .. cause earlier the hashrate used to be constant. Still confused  ???

Yea I too am starting to think its the PSU .. will get it tested soon .. however oafter running a few hours it seems to stabilise the voltage.

This is getting more confusing ???.

Are you sure that there aren't any processes running that are temporarily using a lot of CPU? Saturating the CPU will cause a hit to hashrates of about that size.

Backup program, software update, trojan, anything? Watch task manager through one of the cycles and see if something is misbehaving.

I agree it would but mostly the hashrate drops around the time it gets the next block. And te hashrate did not drop earlier like this. Wonder whats causing it.

what is the temp of the cards, they can clock down in case of overheating

Have you tried using the --gpu-powertune 20 flag?

20 being full throttle.

Yes one of the cards has 20 ... its just dropping when it gets the next block .. how would that affect ? Also queue is 1 and scantime is 4 .. you thiink that would affect ??           s

Turn off auto fan and cg/sgminer telp settings. Just stick it to a static 80% fan.
