Title: [WTS] 1.0BTC gold/silver 1oz 2013 Casascius & mint-condition bearer bar
Post by: klondike_bar on July 10, 2018, 02:34:24 AM
Items located in Canada, will ship within Canada+USA

#1: 2013 1BTC Casascius "Gilt" 1oz Silver Coin (1Ag6 Series).
Excellent condition, kept in airtite since day1 (but will likely remove briefly for photography purposes)
Asking: 1.45 BTC

#2: 2013/2014(?) Casascius "Bearer Bar" (Unfunded, Private Key)
Mint condition, in original plastic wrapping and manilla envelope.
Priv-key version, rather than 2FA
Asking: 0.85 BTC

The market for casascius coins seems a bit thin at the moment, and im in no particular rush to sell this without feeling its a good deal - so feel free to make offers or discuss what enables a precious metals coin to be worth [arbitrarily] far more than its weight in gold.

I will make efforts to upload at least some low-quality photos this week if I cant get the time to commit a full DSLR photo session with some proper lighting (Its an art to get the hologram and the polished silver to both look amazing at the same time)

AS OF 2020-11-05, these two coins are still available for sale!

you are probably looking closer to 2 for the coin and 0.8 for the bar, pictures also make sales.

Potato pics as promised. As mentioned I'll try to get actual closeup photos with a dslr asap, so ignore the fingerprints on the exterior protective film/capsule, they are not on the coin/bar itself.

~1.1btc for the bar is about what im expecting, but its a thin market and i'm not rushing to unload it via auction, so it feels fair to be asking a bit more and see what interest there is before i start dropping my prices too far.

1.7BTC for a gold coin is a great price (if you had received it) - im confident that the market is willing to pay >2BTCgiven some patience. my last gilded coins sold at ~2.2BTC and 2.4BTC iirc, but at times with different fiat/btc rates. it might be safe to say this coin is in even better condition than those  in terms of gilding (zero over/underspill) and hologram placement (laser-cut edge is even all the way around, whereas many are a bit offset and the laser cuts are uneven).

My day-to-day is pretty busy, but i have an amateur lightrig and DSLR that i plan to take better photos under. Im confident that both these items could fetch MS67-MS69 if sent to ANACS and its my plan to upload better images that demonstrate the fact.

Not trying to pop the bubble... but iirc correctly, the last Cas gilt sold for 1.5BTC ?
Will post reference tomorrow....

Thats entirely possible - I know they have fetched excellent premiums in the past, but the level of interest and the effect of bitcoin price can fluctuate, as can the "splitable coins" (BCH, BTG, etc) that are also secured by the same private key.

Im open to offers, but am still in no significant rush to sell this coin so am only looking for reasonable offers (and can post an up-to-date proof if theres interest)

There have been a few sales of these recently and each time the seller was expecting much higher than they eventually sold for.
While I completely agree that the Silver Gilt is without question one of the most iconic coins out there, sadly the market for them, even graded, isn't as valuable as people like to think.

One of the more recent sales... went for around 1.75 I believe

That was me! I listed that Gilt with an ask of 1.75 and accepted a slightly lower offer. It sold around 2 weeks after listing.   BTC was around 5600 usd/btc.

both items just got another reduction in price!

i can/will post updated photos soon or can send by PM to anyone interested, just to prove these havent sold and are still in my possession (stored in a safe for the last year, untouched).

these may be some of the best specimens for a bearer bar and a old/silver casascius coin available right now. There are very few of either type in circulation, let alone stored untouched over the last several years!

Any interest?

I've always seen the Casascius coins as a sort of hedge against the greater bitcoin market.

As BTC/fiat rises, it causes the Casascius coin to lose BTC value but still grow in fiat value.
And as BTC/fiat falls, the Casascius coin grows in BTC value while softening the effect on it's fiat value.

Agreed, the best time to sell physicals is when the btc/usd price is low, you get more Btc premium. But try peeling it when BTC is at $50k, it's a hard decision. I just buy them and keep them for my kids. Literally it's Bitcoin I'll probably never sell. I might be interested, will hit you back in a couple days if still available.

Thats my thought too - but i have more than one coin from the gilt series (they are unbelievably gorgeous) and could benefit from having more liquidity. having an entire bitcoin sealed like this is a big-fish collectible now, rather than something every bitcoiner wanted to have back in 2015.

Hence, finding the right buyer - this is an excellent candidate to get graded!

I believe you should get your 1BTC silver graded. It genuinely would help with your sale in my opinion. Graded and slabbed coins typically seem to sell quicker from what I've noticed. Just something I happen to notice. I could be off but having it graded never hurts for selling purposes. Sure if the grade comes in low that hurts(however from the naked eye here your coin looks to be in excellent condition but that's just my guess as well) but it definitely allows for a potential buyer to know exactly what he/she is getting. As for the Bar it's a cool item but I don't know enough about them to even know if you can even grade those. That would be a question for a much more seasoned member here such as anonymousminer just for example. He does work for ICG and I've met him personally. He's a great guy! Good luck my friend!

I doubt it is possible to get a bearer bar graded. ANACS notes in their FAQ what they will grade and a bearer bar is outside their size limits. It is unreasonable to expect a grading service to produce a holder large enough for a bearer bar if they only wind up grading a few but I could be wrong.

Yeah not surprised to hear this. I don't think I've ever seen any graded bars but then again I've only seen a handful of them or so, so I just didn't know for sure. Thanks for clarifying.

I've always planned to get a few of my coins graded when the vlaue made it worthwhile, but now that that time has come, it raises an entirely new difficulty in transporting/trusting several bitcoins in value to a courier or ANACS. Unfortunately, Canada does not have any services that are as reliable or use such nice slabs as ANACS

Fair enough. Makes sense across the board. Transporting and shipping are now huge issues to worry about and the added complications being in Canada well that's just a tough one. Beautiful coin and bar tho. Good luck with your sale. Hopefully you find a buyer!

The best think to do is look for whitman’s coin show, they have one in Baltimore every quarter and Anacs does the onsite grading.. i usually get my coins graded there..

only did a quick search, but this is the only "bar" I found that was graded.

By a Chinese grading company: http://www.hxpingji.com

I did find an ANACS slab with a tiny bar slabbed, but the size of the bar was comparable to a US penny....

https://i.imgur.com/ABnLkik.jpg

With all due respect to the Chinese. They might grade random coins especially gold and whatnot but don't count on a graded Cas or anything similar from a Chinese company. And I'm about as pro Chinese as one can get without being Chinese. But when it comes to this stuff I wouldn't recommend it. If bars can't get graded then so be it. Like mentioned previously you're coin and your bar looks to be in as good of shape/condition as one could expect being the only holder since buying it from Mike C.
