Title: Poll reveals 2% of American investors own Bitcoin
Post by: vy99 on July 30, 2018, 03:43:25 PM
A recent Gallup poll shows the early adopters of Bitcoin among American investors.

2% might not sound like it's a lot but it's a very good start for such a new investment category. The question is what else needs to be done to get that 2% number higher?

You can read about the poll and the other results of the survey here: https://bitcoinist.com/quarter-us-investors-intrigued-bitcoin-poll/ (https://bitcoinist.com/quarter-us-investors-intrigued-bitcoin-poll/)

For no-coiners to enter the crypto market it should be a lot easier to buy crypto's. I'm afraid its still to technical for them, wallets, exchanges etc.

What would your suggestion be?

You're absolutely right that the technical aspects are what turn a lot of people off Bitcoin and we need to make it easier to increase adoption. Also I saw that Vitalik Butern of Ethereum made a point that it should be super-easy to buy $5-$100 of cryptocurrency to ensure more people get into it and I agree with that as well.

Given America is a developed country, this poll came off as a shock. The numbers should have been way higher than a mere 2%. The government needs to get to the core and see why the numbers are so less.

This just Poll's. We don't have actual data on Demographic, if we base only these data on American Investors, what are the actual figure's on Investors, are we referring Bitcoin investors? we should qualify our data for comparative analysis. we can take these as a negative data but we never had a general idea on how much American Invested in Bitcoin, it is Decentralized system, so we never know the demographic of all the investors in Bitcoin. I believe it is more than 2%.

all depends on who was polled.
go to a fiat investment firm that legally can only invest in regulated FIAT investments. your guaranteed low results.

go to a place where its individuals doing penny stocks, shares, assets and commodies and other investments where they have more flexibility of choice and the poll would be different

its like going to a gay bar. 99% of people that drink beer are gay
go to an average bar.. 15% of people that drink ber are gay
go to a bar designated for racists and homophobes.. 0% of people that drink beer are gay

a better poll would be to find out how many americans are investors
gallop says 54% of americans invest(separate poll)

then work out how many americans own bitcoin
survey monkey says 5% of americans have bitcoin

making it over 9% of american investors have bitcoin

2% for the world's largest economy is actually an encouraging number for a new asset class like bitcoin. The population is 1.3 billion and it is estimated that around 0.8 million people own bitcoin, so the percentage is around 0.61%. So comparing this, 2% is certainly an encouraging numbers. However, with time it needs to be increased.

The increase in oercentage is only possible with clear legal framework and increased merchant adoption. Unless bitcoin and other cryptos can be used as a currency or a legal tender, the growth will be slumped. Investment is ok but a currency should be used as a currency to help its growth.

To be honest, it is really hard to accept the fact that only 2% of them owns BTC. In my opinion, the number is heavily understated for some reason. Even if the survey result is accurate, there can be a huge rise in number given that the next few hearings on Bitcoin ETF goes in favor of the crypto community. Many big investors are likely to join the market and the number will increase too.

where is your maths.
where you getting 1.3billion.. where are you getting 0.8mil own bitcoin.

its 2% of american investors.
so 325mill population(america).. 54% are investors.. which is: 175mill american investors.
2% of that basd purely on that article results in 3.5 million americans have bitcoin

If it is only 2% in America then it astounds me to even think how much it will be in other countries. This result shows that there are still huge possibilities with Bitcoin. With the recent news of various countries accepting BTC, SEC delaying the hearing for Bitcoin ETF I think more people will get interested which in turn will help the percentage to increase.

2% of American investors - what does that mean - investors? I bet of the general population, more like .2% of US citizens actually own any bitcoin.

2% of the population of American investors might not look a lot but that 2% have the abiloty to pursuade or convince other people to join them especially when Bitcoin is on another Bull Market again. We saw how the market participation increased instantly when Bitcoin jumped unbelievable numbers and long time holders received unbievable gains. We both see and increase of traders and investors on datas relating to number of members creating accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges. Another bull market will pursuade the bigger population to join the 2%.

I think people are hiding and don't wanted to disclose their identity of be part of bitcoin investors. This may be due to d fact that American has not legalize partaking in bitcoin but am sure there are lot of citizen that partake in bitcoin but hiding their identity

I think its an assumption. For me 2% is not a small amount. A lot of people live in us and already 2% are engaged. I think in future it will catch more people. When EFT is approved by sec more people will try to engage this platform.

You really have to be a nerd or have some interest in computers to get into Crypto and manage wallets etc. Make it more accessable somehow and this % could easily get to 10%. Although, 2% is what 6 Million Americans?

Although this poll is somewhat informative I do not think it captures all the Bitcoin American users and in fact I suspect the number is much higher. Even so though, we need to make Bitcoin accessible to nearly everyone and that just means more investment to making the steps into crypto easier.

That's quite reasonable. Do you expect Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos will invest their money to enter into the crypto business just because high rate of return? I( mean they surely will show interest to invest but not that much.

Well it's still shows a good percentage despite the problems bitcoin had face. American knows what system could help them and I'm just so happy that there's still 2% who believe in bitcoin. It's just amazing that bitcoin is receiving the trust it needs to perform. I hope that those percentage will get high and rise as well.

Well honestly that number might be too low but if you will analyze deeper then you will realize that the number is still good. We all know that bitcoin is still developing so having a trust from 2% of americans is already a good number to start. I hope that time will come for that number to rise and get high. It would be awesome to have many americans in this system.

Its usual but I think European people are more interested in cryptocurrency. Though there are many people in US who invested in bitcoin but investment in cryptocurrency are more attractive to the Europeans. As a matter of fact, many projects are originated in Europe however, Asia is growing right now and expect that it will change when Asian people hold coins.

i'd say it is at least twice the amount that it should be. meaning below 1%  and unlike what these news sites keep saying, it is not 2% of Americans nor American investors. it is 2% of a small group that they chose from. read Franky's comment above. it is their group that is mostly interested in bitcoin in my opinion. and the real number of bitcoin investors is a lot less than that which is clearly seen on the low price of bitcoin!

It astounds me that this number is so low. I am proud to be a part of that 2%, I take pride in holding Bitcoin! This is Bullish that this number is so incredibly small. This number will surely increase as time goes on, as Bitcoin each day is looking like a more and more legitimate asset and a fantastic alternative to gold. Bitcoin fits great in today's digital society.

I think that something like Bitcoin was inevitable. There needs to be a way to store value on the internet without a third party. This is simply a must have today and in the future. Bitcoin fulfilled this, and because of that, adoption will only increase as time goes on, like it has been since 2009.

If just 2% adoption could do this to the Bitcoin price then think of what a 10% adoption rate would do. And in this 2% too I think that very less people own a substantial amount. There is still too much room left for Bitcoin to grow and there is nothing stopping it from achieving it.

i don't know why so many people in this topic and the duplicates of it are claiming this to be "shocking"! 2% may be a little off the market but it still is a pretty good estimate and lets not forget that the price rise (or more accurately the shoot up to the moon) brought in a lot of investors and this poll is only asking "investors" not regular people.
if it did ask regular people then the percentage would have been less than 0.5%

Because the US government has many restrictions on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. A number of large ICO projects have banned people from living in the United States. So 2% of American investors own Bitcoin are normal

"American investors" is the key word here. There will be many general citizen too who owns bitcoin. But, this scene can change drastically if SEC sanctions bitcoin ETF. Many big corporate investors will be trying to make a profit out of it which will increase the number of users joining the market in the process. The data however, looks depressing as of now.

2% is less ludicrous than some polls out there but it doesn't tell us what proportion of the American population is an investor. The majority don't have a pot to piss in and live on mayonnaise sandwiches.

It is time to leave the 'literally no one has ANY' narrative behind now. When Coinbase was in the top app list for a while that indicates some serious interest out there. I can well believe 1% of all Americans have some by now. That's only 3 million people.

This is important, 2% does not sounds like much but it is huge,  the adoption has not reached 1% of the human population but in the US 2% already adopted bitcoin, this is important because countries in which the standards of living are higher can afford to invest in new technologies like bitcoin, so as long as we get countries like the US, Canada, Japan, The EU and China the market of cryptocurrencies will get access to most of the money of the world.

Now about what we can do to make that percentage higher, the truth is we cannot do much, a pool that I saw some time ago said that most young people knew about bitcoin already so what we need is to wait and for the day young people get good jobs and money and then they decide to invest most of their money in bitcoin and not in traditional investments.

That is, of the total number of people interviewed in the US, those who own a crypto currency, only 2 percent have bitcoin. The remaining 98 percent have altcoyins. This is less than one percent of the country's population. Apparently, the propaganda of state bodies that investing in bitcoin is very risky has worked. It will take time to correct the situation. In practice, in this situation with bitcoin in the US, this market is still without the use of bitcoin.

You can read about the poll and the other results of the survey here: https://bitcoinist.com/quarter-us-investors-intrigued-bitcoin-poll/ (https://bitcoinist.com/quarter-us-investors-intrigued-bitcoin-poll/)

If it's only for the investors, it's really low number. 2% of all americans would be much better. But still, it's a start, we all need to work hard to promote bitcoin and make it more widespread

There are several things can be done to increase participation. Like a lots of positive promotion and success stories are needed. And i think the whole process is need to be easy.
I fully agree!an easy process will attract more people.

I think we can do some things to make that number higher. We can encourage vendors to take Bitcoin, we can encourage people to use Bitcoin as a currency, and we can welcome "noobs" that want to learn about Bitcoin instead of making the whole thing an exclusive club.
It is not a bad idea but things are never so simple, if you need to encourage vendors to accept bitcoin then this means that bitcoin is no bringing them a lot of benefits, what it needs to happen for vendors and business owners to begin to accept bitcoin as a currency in their businesses on their own is that enough people are demanding to use bitcoin as a payment option, they need to see that they are losing money by not accepting bitcoin.

And that will only happen once there is enough people using the bitcoin network and for that to happen we will need to solve the scaling problem, something that the developers are already working but that is going to take some time before it's fully resolved, so until that day we can only wait.

They can not investigate the number of Bitcoin owners in the United States. But, this scene can change dramatically if the SEC punishes bitcoin ETF. The data however, looks depressing as of now. 2% is less ridiculous than some surveys but does not tell us the proportion of the US population is an investor. It's time to leave the story "literally nobody has ANYTHING" right now. I can also believe that 1% of all Americans have some now.
