Title: Re: New auction for a gold coin on bidding pond! Post by: grondilu on March 25, 2011, 02:39:59 AM How do we know this is a real coin and not a replica? I know it weights the correct weight, and looks exactly the same as many others, but there is no way I can prove it on line. You just have to look at the photos and video, and consider my selling history: so far no one has ever complained about receiving a fake coin. PS. Also: good quality fake coins of that size are very rare. The only I know of are actually filled with platinium (they were minted at a period when platinium was cheaper than gold), and are now much more expensive than real coins. Title: Re: New auction for a gold coin on bidding pond! Post by: grondilu on March 25, 2011, 04:24:26 AM Nice coin. Indeed, this coin is sometimes nicknamed "angel" and is one of the nicest of the napoleon series. Title: Re: New auction for a gold coin on bidding pond! Hmm... sounds like an opportunity for an honest appraiser to make a name for himself in the community. Title: Re: New auction for a gold coin on bidding pond! Post by: grondilu on March 31, 2011, 01:53:49 PM Less than 7 days left. Are you guys going to let ender_x take all my coins or something? He has already won my two previous auctions. Title: Re: New auction for a gold coin on bidding pond! Post by: Atlas_ on March 31, 2011, 01:58:20 PM It's easy to verify gold. Gold is very soft so drilling a small hole will do the trick. If it goes all the way through with only gold filing produced, it's legitimate. If the drill bit stops in the center, you have a dud.
