Title: Walmart Sells Bitcoin at $1
Post by: Gabrielexas on September 12, 2018, 09:40:23 PM
Bitcoin is always bringing the attention even at Wal-Mart check this out https://techcrunch.com/2018/09/11/walmart-is-now-selling-bitcoins-for-1/?guccounter=1
Sounds funny and maybe not of great interest but that kind of selling propaganda gives 3 good things:

1st) It makes more people to know bitcoin
2nd) The kids start to know there is something out there called Bitcoin
3rd) As it is in chocolate, bitcoin will be engraved in the mind of those who try as a sweet and nice thing.  :D

Thanks for sharing!

This unironically will make Bitcoin a little bit more legitimate in the eyes of average people. Unless it's meant to be 'scary bitcoin - the Halloween candy' type of thing that is  :)

It will have some positive promotional effect, but I see it more as a sign of Bitcoin breaking to mainstream, with majority of people already being aware of it.

Yeah, it's clearly a marketing ploy designed to give kids yet another reason to pester their parents to buy them chocolate, heh.  That said, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the tactic pays off and this food manufacturer see a sales uplift because of it.  But if it does raise even a little bit of awareness for the future generations, there's no harm in it.  Every kid needs to grow up knowing what Bitcoin is for when the time comes that traditional finance invariably fails them.

Exactly, its a creative marketing ploy and I 'm sure that kids will see bitcoin as not as scary as their parents  know them in the first place (if their parents is aware what bitcoin is, rat poison as per W.B.)

And it the long run, this kind of propaganda will stick to the kids mind and who knows, by the time they are old enough, we might see some of them turn into a investor.  :)

Well guys make sure you do your part and buy some... Halloween is coming and its a good time to share the good news. Lets remember the epic sentence "Ask not what bitcoin can do for you but what you can do for bitcoin? "  ;D

yeah, that's a good marketing strategy without harming anyone nor offending any entity. no matter what this younger generation will face the full blast of blockchain era. they need to start somewhere, right? at least be open-minded in these things. you'll never know, they are the generation that will fully embrace the blockchain revolution without any hesitations.

the views of the world about bitcoin has been changing and i believe this has started a while back but mostly last year when Japan adopted bitcoin when their government recognized bitcoin as a legal way of payment and that accompanied by the price rise became one of the biggest game changers for bitcoin since now everyone who were hearing "bitcoin is scam" were realizing it was all FUD since they were seeing one of the developed countries have actually adopted bitcoin as a currency.

That picture didn't say $Bitcoin is $1 It only says $Bitcoin payment is accepted! and you can pay as little as $1. So  I believe the pictures say a different thing from $Bitcoin at $1. Shows how shops over the world are beginning to find $Bitcoin a convenient way of paying! It will increase gradually until its generally adopted. My only worry is if the techology is going to scale to handle the bigger usage that is yet to come! Because I can't pay for a cup of coffee and wait 5 hours to get my coffee because of confirmation speeds. Things have to change in that aspect. Overall things are looking good for $Bitcoin regardless of the shape of the market now.

Walmart is selling "bitcoin" chocolates for $1. That's it. Where does it say that bitcoin payments are being accepted?

it does not ,,,,i think he was kidding or just dreaming

wallmart accepting btc news comes next year sometime i expect with most other stores

i expect amazon and ebay to be some of the first to capitulate to btc .. or that is what I am hoping anyway since that is where I tend to buy most things I need.

LN is key

still its a good bit of fun news and who knows it could lead to some small amount of extra attention for btc and crypto from the younger kids or just those who like choco money

This shows that bitcoin is gaining more ground and acceptability. Many parents will get to understand what is bitcoin and how it's been used as a medium of exchange. It's good to expose it to people this way.

He's actually hallucinating when he's typing that. Don't mind him. ???

This is actually eye catching and a good advertisement to raise more awareness and you'll definitely have a second look in their board and there you are smiling like an idiot hoping bitcoin in $1.

Whoever idea was it, he actually succeeded. Nice marketing.

Take me to Walmart.  8)

Frankford should attach a random private key on each chocolate as a gimmick
they don't even need to load bitcoin into addresses, just generate private key sequentially
then let buyers check the balance on the explorer and steal someone's bitcoin ;D

Would be great to see those chocolate bitcoins selling in other popular places like Starbucks where normally there are chocolate coins for kids. I jsut hope they will not create some Etherum or Litcoin or even Bitcoincash chocolates as well  ;D

That is very interesting to see because there have been such concepts earlier. In those days we used to call them as gold coins as they were nothing but just the gold foil plated coins and had no prints on them. Now they are not sold since many years or I have not seen any of them since many years due to ever changing trend of the chocolates and new additions to them. Now here comes another coin with similar concept and it is surely going to be the best seller because such things are caught up by people very fast. Kids will grab it surely as well as adults will go the same way too. Nice concept really.

Lol. I thought it was real that walmart is selling bitcoin at $1 only.

It's funny how titles surprise you sometimes. I thought maybe it is some kind of a false news or maybe it is some psycho kind of a move to sell only 1 Bitcoin for $1 which is totally shocking.
Such marketing strategies would probably play a vital role in dragging Bitcoin into mainstream and making people, who don't know it yet, get aware of it. Just imagine how popular it would become if there are everything with a logo of Bitcoin in every corner of the world. They should get exported to different countries in different regions where people would use them and also see a non-annoying advertisement of Bitcoin on those things. Just like every successful brand, of anything, Bitcoin would become widely known because of such things.

I first saw this at Yahoo and was legitimately surprised. Turned out to be clickbait, as expected lol.

But yeah, now that Bitcoin is basically a household name and interest has generally waned, some exposure to the general populace would be nice. I don't think this will help adoption in any significant way, but at least it reminds people that Bitcoin still exists after all the doom forecasts now that it's down to 30% of its ATH.

A good idea would be to attach a random private key on the inside of the wrapper(but definitely not sequential), and place a 1 BTC prize on one of those wallets. That would somehow let people have an idea on how bitcoin works.

Haha,

amazing to see this one on the shelf of Walmart. I hope they will soon launch the real bitcoin at the rate 1 dollars! LOL. I know thats impossible but come on this is just perfect one to see coming from the Walmart.

Now soon, huge crowd of the Walmart will start knowing about the Bitcoin in the first place and the advertisement of bitcoin will be done in snap of minutes. This is the beginning of something new and hopefully it will push the market up ahead. At least we can think in that way.

The caption is eye catching and also intriguing which will make any body to go for it at Walmart only to discover it is only a candy. Whatever happens the advert will play its role in the mind of the children as they will now be aware of bitcoin whose symbol adored the golden cover of their candy. They will still enjoy their milk saturated candy. Over time their inquisitive mind will move the children to think about knowing more about bitcoin and its use. I will say kudos to Frankford candy  for being an ally of bitcoin and implanting bitcoin into the heart of millions of children that will be enjoying Bitcoin candy .

2nd) The kids start to know there is something out there called Bitcoin
Which serves no purpose since at that age you don't care about anything else other than the sweet chocolate  :D

I think Wallmart is trying to spread the word about Bitcoin, no matter how small this may look, it's free publicity at the end of the day, and it could actually serve as a great marketing campaign in the long run, people will start seeing this candy everywhere which could a have psychological effect and before they know it, they're looking up on the internet everything about Bitcoin. Thank you, Wallmart.

I do not like that, because we have spent a lot of time to explain to people that Bitcoin is not a physical coin and now

Reading on through the article you shared, it is in good light to have a milk chocolate branded as bitcoin to stamp awareness to Walmart's shoppers.

It is actually nice to finally have bitcoin back in its most affordable state. Now everybody can have a taste to how it feels owning a bitcoin #smiles #winks

But nonetheless, Frankford's chocolate bitcoin would really stir a lot of curiosity to many who have not yet heard of our most favored cryptocurrency. In many ways, it does help promote bitcoin, a necessity we need these days to grow the market stronger.

I'm not sure it is bad. I still believe that even "bad" publicity still good publicity :)

a good idea to expand the use of bitcoin, this can make a lot of people see and they start to find out what bitcoin is. Although it sounds a little deceptive when on Wallmart sells $ 1 of bitcoin, but this is one good step to attract the attention of the public

This is a good marketing strategy to make the people be aware of bitcoin and I hope this would inspire other businesses too to have other kinds of strategy for the people to know that bitcoin does exist even though it is in the form of chocolate. A food would be a good pick because it can attract all ages. The price may be a little confusing but still whatever makes the people be aware of it then it is good.

Nice strategy they got. It is an interesting way to catch the interests of an individuals about bitcoin. Their strategic idea makes bitcoin more popular. Though kids may have confusions as to what really bitcoin is and how can that bitcoin be use. They may be interested but not all kids may understand it well.

At least even if kids do not understand it yet, it is already instilled in their minds that bitcoin does exist and sooner or later, they would be able to remember it and check what it is. This is a really good strategy getting the attention of all people in all ages.

Besides being interesting, this can also be a very good business opportunity, so people can get to know Bitcoin. I've seen movies with the title Bitcoin, this is something very interesting. everyone will go into bitcoin, because everyone will hunt for Bitcoin.

I think that it is a good way to promote bitcoins that way too. People will surely be aware of cryptocurrencies one step at a time. We do know that it is almost a decade old but still not have the greatest reputation it might get.

But by ways of promoting it through other things makes sense and making it less scary to know about it.

This is actually a great move to spread awareness regarding bitcoin. While the ones they are selling is in the form of $1 candies, they'd instill curiosity on the minds of those who bought it or came across it. Nice marketing stunt which doesn't hurt the bank but gives awareness overall. With this move, we at least know that Walmart loves the concept of bitcoin, or just using the hype it might generate to boost up sales.

Seems like a good way to sell your chocolate people might think it is funny to say heres some Bitcoin and give them the chocolate coins.

I don't think it will do much to the Bitcoin market but as Bitcoin starts to normalize in the minds of more people it will help adoption this wont hurt it.

wow, that's a great marketing strategy. It seems Walmart has invested a lot of money into Bitcoin and now they are advertising free of charge to Bitcoin. I feel quite excited about this and I think the future of Bitcoin is very good in the future.

Waiting for negative reaction from the ”true bitcoin” hallucinating team.

A QR code with 20$ btc in random packages inside will start a hype: suggestion: Panic buying be like.

I think it is a good conversation starter and also a nice Xmas/Birthday gift to add to other bigger gifts. <I would even add a little Paper wallet with some real bitcoin to those coins. I am definitely going to buy some coins and then hand them out at the office, because I am the "Go to" person in the office for all the Bitcoin related questions.   ::)

Does this mean, Bitcoin has gone mainstream now.  ;D  ??? ::)

You are right to say, young children who eat chocolate should already get used to the fact that there is bitcoin. A lot more people will see that bitcoin is around, it is even in chocolate, it's great news, though funny!

I imagine that the walmart was full that day of trader looking for that offer of a bitcoin dollar but what they gave was a chocolate but that is good more advertising without doubt the children when they are 15 or 16 years old or less will enter I crypto more quickly since they know their name since 2 years mass adoption preparing the mass for the future when this most active in the world bitcoin will always want to use the name of bitcoin for advertising and multi products, financial applications and consumer products will attract more attention to block chains in the future will be used only bitcoins

Even after the Bitcoin has been for so many years, but 60-70% of peoples do not use it. Children are our future, It is a great idea to promote Bitcoin in the hands of children, by Walmart. If you use Bitcoin with delicious things like Chocolate, Sweets from the early age, they will become accustomed to Bitcoin too.
Thank you, Walmart, for a great idea for Bitcoin

That's a good idea to build awareness or at least grab the eyeballs towards Bitcoin. This made me think of my Bitcoin memorabilia (gold colour coin). The year 2017 was the year when Bitcoin and blockchain technology went mainstream and no doubt that this momentum will continue in the coming years and we will see the actual ground level use of it soon across the world.

It is good to know that a major sales outlet like Walmart is selling (and probably accepting) bitcoins in the single unit dollar range. It is a boost and a turn around for the market as well as sending a message to the pessimist that the sales outlet is ready to accept the bitcoin. It is also a sense that they have an eye for remaining relevant.

This is a great piece, bitcoin and the world of Crypto is really going far. The new generation of children needs to have a  knowledge of Bitcoin and the crypto world. This is great in the right sense. Walmart and other popular sites can help promote bitcoin to the rest of the world who are yet to know about bitcoin.

I haven't bought because I'm far away but that's legit.

Walmart is now selling bitcoins for $1 (https://techcrunch.com/2018/09/11/walmart-is-now-selling-bitcoins-for-1/)

If you live nearby there, you've got to try it for yourself. Its more interesting on how it taste this advertisement made me remember the old times where I used to buy this type of chocolate before.

I hope they won't remove that bitcoin for $1 to their gondola or it should be there permanently.

They knew this move was going to get a decent amount of publicity, and they got it.

I mean, look at this LOL. shots fired:

https://i.redd.it/av9i8uj5d0k11.jpg
it doesn't come with a private key of a loaded bitcoin address, does it? ::) :P
Frankford should attach a random private key on each chocolate as a gimmick
they don't even need to load bitcoin into addresses, just generate private key sequentially
then let buyers check the balance on the explorer and steal someone's bitcoin ;D

https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/186c45c1-e335-4ae5-b6ba-447213808627_1.48cdf8b0c92f40d1a2e91feac5a27816.jpeg?odnHeight=450&odnWidth=450&odnBg=FFFFFF

Haha at first I was like, WOW they really accept bitcoin?? and then I saw this, Oh okay they named a chocolate as bitcoin.. So is it a good side on bitcoin? Bitcoin will be much more like a sweet for kids and all who sees it.

Well, atleast they know there is bitcoin, but as a chocolate.

Title: Re: Walmart Sells Bitcoin at $1

I can see Walmart and some other big corporation alike to accept bitcoin in the future. However I wonder why this idea for Walmart came about. It is purely because they think it can be a popular sell or does it have a meaning behind? Is perhaps Walmart interested in spreading the word because maybe it has investments in bitcoin, or are they mocking bitcoin and trying to convey the message that bitcoin is worthless by placing the $1 USD board and trying to make an association. I just wonder on which side of the fence really Walmart stands. Either they want to spread the word or maybe some banks have paid them to try to put the bitocin reputation down. I'm more inclined to the first.
