Title: Are the bitcoin faucets no longer worth it?
Post by: Gabb on September 13, 2018, 02:46:06 AM
I remember that about three years ago, when I was just learning about the existence of bitcoin, there were a lot of faucets who paid more than 1000 satoshi per hour, which allowed those who had enough free time to spend in faucets, to accumulate a good amount of satoshi each week. In fact, that was the way I could get my first fractions of bitcoin by not knowing more alternatives.

However, in these days already very few serious faucets survive, and the most popular of them hardly grant a few satoshis after much effort.

Do you think it's still worth investing time in faucets? what is your experience with that?

Nope. I don't think faucets weren't made to be monetized with in the first place. It was more of so that the people could test out and transact with bitcoin without putting in money.

Honestly if you're going to find something to make money on, look for something that also can actually improve your skills. You literally don't learn anything from collecting faucets alone as all you're going to do is solving captchas.

No I don't think they are worth it, they're referred to as micro-earnings for a reason. I guess if you honestly have nothing else to do it's something but doesn't seem worth the effort.

I wasn't around when faucets were big. IIRC they were meant to be a way to help push adoption and bring people to bitcoin in a risk free way. It was a beginners tool, you earned free BTC and could then practice sending transactions, creating wallets. Any that still exist now I would expect to be sending out very small amounts for the same purpose as the originals, remember it's essentially a charity for knowledge.

The few I have seen now though I think are usually geared as a promotion for a website, or casino. So they come with their own agendas.

Certainly they aren't worth it. You would earn better by doing bounties here or working on Steemit rather than doing that mindless work.

After I knew about trading and bounties, I've already ignored some apps and website faucets. I do not have enough patience waiting and waiting to reach the minimum withdrawal amount. Somehow, some still using fauvets hoping to have free bitcoin. There is some luck for others.

If you know that much about it then surely you can feel the difference between that period and the current period of the faucets earning. Literally faucets are getting way down in the payout and its not because they dont want to pay you but its because the prices of the crypto currencies have gone wild. Specifically bitcoin I am talking about, where they are paying you the same rate of Satoshi as they did back in those days. Dont look at it in BTC way but they look at it in USD value. If they start giving you 1000 Satoshi then they would end up giving you huge money for very less value of their income. They need to look after their profits too.

That's right, I thought it was not working. We will not have many effective strategies at this time. But if you are a believer in Crypto, you should invest in Bitcoin and determine to hold them for 3 years. That would be a most wise decision.

faucets have never been "worth" it even when they were paying higher amounts such as 1000 satoshi, i would even say that faucets weren't even worth it back in the time when there was one and it was giving away 5BTC per claim!
it is never about the amount, it is about the time you waste on claiming them and also the risks you are putting yourself in. for instance a while ago there was a vulnerability in Electrum RPC calls, a faucet forces you to disable your ad block so they can run any script they wanted on your computer. if you had your Electrum open (without password encryption) and was claiming a malicious faucet it could technically steal your coins.
as for waste of time. the time you were wasting a couple of years ago claiming 1000 satoshis could have been spent earning 1000000 satoshi!

Yes, you are right that the claims as of today are much lesser compared with previous years when bitcoin has just started. Actually, I register in 99bitcoins faucets and able to claim at least 10 Satoshi per 5 minutes and with a 10K threshold amount before it will be added to your BTC wallet. Though it is only a fraction of bitcoin, for me it is still worth it because I'll use it for buying loads.

My Wife used to do faucets back in the day, but now you get peanuts and it is just not worth our time anymore. She used to click them for hours each day, nowadays you only get like 20 or 30 sats and that is not enough even to pay the internet and electricity cost in the time frame you are clicking. You are better off finding other tasks to get paid in Bitcoin instead if you can find any that will pay you. Nowadays it seems harder and harder to find good jobs.

Am not sure the f faucets are really much worth and as a basis of knowing much abut bitcoin will be better but using it as a money making avenue for fractions of bitcoin would be quite complicated. There quite better ways of gaining bitcoins aside these faucets which might gain you nothing.

Bitcoin faucets are no longer worth it,if you are a faucet owner. The competition between all the onlne faucets killed that business idea(if this really is a business idea). The golden time for the bitcoin faucets is over.
However bitcoin faucets were always totally pointless to use,if you were a faucet user, wasting your time clicking and solving captchas every 5 minutes.Faucets are like PTC sites, like Neobux, they are a waste of time and a dead model to make money.

I think all of us here in crypto will always find a way to earn bitcoin, but for the first timers like me, we will commonly search on google "how to earn bitcoin easily" or something similar. And the result most of the time is the bitcoin faucets. But for sure soon enough we will realize, faucets are not meant to earn a lot of bitcoin, i just realized it after I tried several faucets.

Even since the creation of faucets, it isn't worth it. There is already a lot of pretty good explanation about why faucets aren't good in the Beginner & help section pinned post. take a look at here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1629118.0

Maybe yes because the price is to much high and these faucets are use less since they're paying with low bitcoins. No one want to waste there time for 100 200 satoshi per hour

I agree. They are absolutely not worth it. Are you planning on earning a few cents per hour op? This is how much most faucets pay out these days. There are a few faucets that pay big amounts through lotteries, but everyone knows how lotteries work.

I suggest going outside and looking for a real job rather than depending on faucets due to the low pay per hour op.

Your statement that faucets were designed to help conduct crypto transactions makes complete sense and I had honestly done the same during my initial days in the crypto world.

almost all beginners who are new to cryptocurrency must feel the struggle to get some free shatosi, bitcoin tap must be the main target visited by beginners in this field. That is because they still do not fully understand the ways that can generate some shatosi without issuing capital, therefore the bitcoin tap is certainly still suitable for beginners to be able to collect some of the smallest bitcoin units first, namely (shatosi).

With the high price of bitcoin now it will be difficult to find a faucet that really pays for people who play it. And as for paying if there is only a little, 15 satoshi for 15 minutes and it's very annoying. The minimum high withdrawal limit is one of the reasons our time will be useless when you want to get bitcoin with a faucet. I guess compared to someone playing a faucet it will be more meaningful if they become a bounty hunter, there will be many lessons he can get when becoming a participant of the bounty program with confidence.

I think all faucet sites now are gone because they will not pay you too much because they are changing and I think you'll try to claim airdrops instead of bitcoin, altcoin, token faucets.

Bitcoin faucets ended up being worth the operators' and the users' time years ago, 2013 to be precise when bitcoin's price gained traction and ATH was achieved. The reason for this is that operators don't want to shell out more money and ads that are embedded within the faucet site don't pay too well, so it only ends up being a dire effort for the time and money an operator puts into his/her faucet. On the user side of things, a few satoshis won't make the cut, and we know people wants to make it big even if they are newbs on the field. They end up trying but also end up tired clicking ads and solving captchas in exchange for virtual pennies that they can't even use to spend on even the cheapest of things online.

Something being worth it is a subjective thing. IT also depends largely on your future expectations for bitcoin and your alternative opportunities. Let's say for example you have no other earning potential and no way to purchase bitcoin directly but expect bitcoin to 100x in 5 years time, in that scenario it's very worthwhile. If alternatively you could do something else for say $10 an hour and then use that money to buy bitcoin then you're better off doing that.

If faucets are worth it, can be a little subjective depends on how much your time is worth, for my concern it is not worth it but it is a great way to learn how transactions gets processed in the blockchain. So at a beginner level it is good for learning I have had many friends started with faucets, claiming enough to get it processed and follow along how the transaction gets processed.

Faucets were built to beings taste of crypto to new people and open up avenue for people to earn free coins without having to invest any amount, just a little time and energy. But depending on faucets is not really the way to go, the returns are just very little.
Best thing to do is to join in campaigns here and earn bigger.

That's very true mate. I got my first few satoshis through faucets only and I believe most of the people would have got their initial BTC through faucets since we didn't had to invest anything but our time into it to gain a few satoshis. Things have really changed now as the number of people in crypto has increased and hence the websites are giving out very few satoshis which are almost worth nothing. If we collect it for a few weeks then may be we could be able to collect a few cents but then it is really not worth spending the time into faucets anymore.

That depends on how we use them. We know that bitcoin gives us a lot of benefits, this virtual currency can actually be used to pay for electricity, water bills, costs, tickets, etc. It always has a price. We just need to know how to exploit them so let's continue to try and think that success will come to you

Not really. Despite this industry contributes to over 50% of the traffic on leading cryptocurrency websites, from the perspective of a visitor/user, it is not profitable even when using a faucet rotator ( A faucet rotator saves time by allowing users to quickly visit different faucets without opening a new tab for each websites and earn a commission fee via a chain of rotation links for each faucet visited, with just a click of a button. ) The highest possible earnings that a user can make can simply be no more than an average of USD1.5 a day. I don’t think Bitcoin faucets will really worth your time.

The experience you gave is almost the same as what I did last year, getting Bitcoin from fauchet.
In the past, I was able to collect 3 Btc / month. but at that time the BTC price was still very cheap, it could be said enough to just walk.
I think people have left Fauchet because there is an Airdrop and Bounty instead, Airdrop and Bounty are more efficient than Fauchet and the results are better Airdrop and Bounty.
maybe that's why Fauchet doesn't exist in the crpyto world.

I have always believed that investing time and resources in Bitcoin faucets is a waste of time unless there is a huge active referral network under our profile. It doesn't make any sense, in terms of return on investment, to spend time at the rate at which faucets are distributing the Satoshis.

It would be nice to get 1000 sathoshi through the faucet, to be honest, at the beginning of last year I knew bitcoin, I was introduced to an alternative faucet, but I was not interested and I chose another alternative method to get a few coins.

And in fact, the alternative method that I chose, was not like the beginning. a little difficult to get a few coins. Maybe because of the many participants and government regulations, this makes it a little difficult. My point is maybe this is also what distinguishes faucet three years ago and now.

Bitcoin faucets?  ???

As the difficulty in mining of bitcoin increases, the unreliability of faucets definitely increases too! Besides, faucets have always been time-wasting, even when reliable, the payouts are usually not corresponding to the efforts invested in terms of time and data

The obvious answer to your enquiry is YES!!!

Advertisers are mostly interested in the traffic to their sites, so in addition to cost, the added approach is absolutely worthless. Receiving traffic through a bitcoin faucet is the cheapest variant. However, experienced advertisers, whose services are far from expensive, closely monitor unfair fraud, so cooperation will not last for bitcoin faucets.

No longer worth it if you had a lot of time to claim with those. But for the owner if theres traffic on his faucet it can be another source for him but as time goes by, fewer people are fauceting. That is a faucet we are talking about, it don't really give that much satoshis as mining and advertising would give you. Some even said that it is a waste of time, it might be right but it still depends on that individual.

I think faucet is not that worth it nowadays, it is not a waste of time since you are earning something but not that much. I guess instead of using your tine on faucets, better focus it on other things that will give you more profit or money.

Honestly if you're going to find something to make money on, look for something that also can actually improve your skills. You literally don't learn anything from collecting faucets alone as all you're going to do is solving captchas.
Yes, I agree, he doesn't learn anything from solving captchas. If he has no skill in developing skill in bitcoin or cyrptocurrency, I think he can join some bounty programs from legit ICos. Social media bounty is the easiest, the second is via writing article or blog. By writing he will a lot of concept in cryptocurrency because he should read white paper, the payment may not in bitcoin but he can sell it to bitcoin then.

Faucet is indeed one of the activities of my friend and me in searching for Bitcoin fractions, about three years ago I often gathered to do activities in the faucet and the results were pretty good, enough for everyday snacks.
But with time, Faucet feels more difficult to do. Besides being seldom in demand, the faucet seems to drain a lot of time, in contrast to the new ones, namely airdrop, bounty and giveaway. Because of that I think people out and not invest in the faucet.

Also some of it is not as legit like where you are in. So I step aside on faucets and choose airdrops before where it is more profitable and free which I can say that worth it to give attention.

I used to claim for a ton of different faucets but just that one. Parachute takes up way to much of my time and has been worth my time. I have several hundred dollars worth of crypto from their airdrops.

Someone need to invent some new model for faucets game. They were so popular couple of years ago and many newcomers came from those sites. Most popular faucet today is freebitco.in i guess but they are actually a dice site more than a faucet.

For me too, faucets are not worth it too that is why I did not focus much on it, instead focusing my self in some other way where I can learn a lot just like doing a research with everything about bitcoin and I am fulfilled because I am learning as well as earning from it, so for me no need to waste time there, we should at least invest our time wisely.

I do still claim from one just because it kept my loyalty rewards despite me not claiming for months and my referrals are still pretty active haha.

But Parachute has done wonders for my crypto portfolio. ETH/BTC tipbot for Telegeamnin thenworks plus an exchange in the future! $$$ haha

Few years ago, Bitcoin had little effect on the world's financial system and hence people were dashed huge fractions of it for doing something little like just filling airdrops. The situation is different now since the currency is gotten a huge percentage in the worlds financial. You should not expect any more bitcoin faucets.

Faucets have not been worth the effort for a very long time, so you need to find something else to do because it is clear to me that those websites are not going to be around for long, try to learn instead how to trade, you can make a lot more money with a single trade than what you could earn by claiming from different faucets with months of hard work.

As for now  i think its not worth it because its hard to earn and they give only small amount of satoshi and they have limit before you gonna withdraw it. But i am so happy because i am part of that i also earn fractions of bitcoin from faucet when i get enter on bitcoin world.

Maybe it must continued today. Or maybe it must be restructured or remodeled so that it will be much more interesting. Or shall we say there will be a lot more interested participants.

In fact, the important thing about the faucets is that they were an easy and accessible way to make bitcoin known and accessible to many newcomers who otherwise would not have found other ways to access bitcoin, given how difficult it was three years ago to get into this world. Now there are so many options to earn cryptocurrencies and facilities to buy and sell them, that is why at this moment we find the existence of faucets and their payments really ridiculous.

In fact, from what I've noticed in different Facebook groups that talk about the issue of crypto investments, the only ones that seem to be getting some significant gains in faucets like freebitco.in, are those who had enough skill to gather a lot of referrals over time. I know some of them that only based on their referrals have been able to accumulate a couple of bitcoins with the passage of time, which sounds quite profitable!

First of all for me , faucet is worth it to invest your time because you will get only some satoshi on faucet and you spend so much time and wait. But other people spend their time for faucet only and they get only some satoshi only. Only few people can earn more than 100k satoshi if they have a lot of referrals.

will for now on faucet in cryptocurrency are not so profitable, since from the start i've learned doing faucet things in crypto i've earned only  a small penny amount of crypto coins, and its cannot been convertible into fiat for our own needs, and its waste a lots of time to doing a faucet in crypto, otherwise its good also for a newbie who want to earn a small things and hold the tokens in your wallet and save it until grow its grow and you can used it into different transaction.

They weren't even worth it to begin because the rewards are adjusted to the price of Bitcoin.

How is it worth it? You're spending too much time just to get a few cents it might take you several weeks before you can reach the minimum threshold. You could get lucky from faucets like freebitco.in claiming $100 worth of btc but that's just a one time opportunity. The trade that you get from faucets isn't cost effective you can save more money and time by not using your pc to claim faucets.

Yes bitcoin faucets are never worth it in the first place. Faucets only gives you a little amount and is not worth the time at all. For me I believe there is no such thing as free in this world. You have to work in order to earn or get something. Free bitcoin is too good to be true and for me it will always have a catch.

Well before I also started earning through faucets and I thought its the reliable way to earn because its free, however if you think about it the time you spent solving captchas/claiming satoshis is not worth your time since the amount you'll get is low.

I think if you want to improve yourself dont just be content in btc faucets but try to learn other things that can help you to earn more like in trading.

It's just a waste of time as those sites will not give your reward and it needs to reach on a certain amount before you can withdraw your reward. If you can join in a bounty program then why you need to use your time in faucets? I think only those newbies that did not know about bounty program will do faucets.

At this current situation, Bitcoin Faucet just wasting our time. Because the amount that we have got is too low and it takes too much time to get the result...
If you are looking for free money better join the airdrops than the Faucet, airdrop still worth it for me...

From the very start faucet is not reliable souce to earn Bitcoin because it is time consuming task better to join bounty campaigns or if you already in bounty then compare the earnings and the time spent then you will see the difference of time wasted if you are in faucet task.

I’ve been paid recently $10 in doge for doing nothing for a few months. Working on another claim right now

maybe I disagree with the word worthless. because from there we can produce bits of bitcoin which really have been proven to pay. it's just that, at this time the bitcoin faucet is less commensurate with the time we give. the article, we can spend a few hours with very little bitcoin income. after all, now there are so many other alternatives that we can produce bitcoin.

for me the faucet is now not as it used to be. many faucets don't pay and just waste our time.
if I can choose I prefer to mine or invest in bitcoin rather than just waste time in the faucet without results.

Faucets are bad because your expectations are low. 5 years from now if you farmed a faucet you could maybe make 1 dollar if you clicked a few times. Now it's still 1 dollar. What changed is the number of satoshis per click. People who used faucets in 2010 didn't know that 3 years later Bitcoin will be worth 100 times more.

Yes, I also started my Bitcoin journey with faucets, they used to pay 1000 Satoshi per hour or maybe half. But they are a very good option to start learning Bitcoin you can learn better when you're actually spending the money. Nowadays things have changed the Bitcoin price is so high and put it on the way around 10 or 15 satoshi but people need at least one Million satoshis every week or month to survive on the internet. So Bitcoin faucets have become no longer useful but still, I can see that people use them which inspires me till now.

although everyone knows that few or little drops of water makes mighty ocean, it is still valid and acceptable a parable in any part of the world and in any field but in this field, it currently does not have value, the faucets i mean. but in time to come it may be worth it.

I don't think they were ever worth it. I remember some years ago when I had to solve captcha codes everyday to earn bitcoin faucets but the problem is being able to accumulate the minimum withdrawal amount so that you will be able to withdraw them. I never reached the withdrawal amount so I quit halfway and decided to do meaningful things with my life.

I have heard a lot about bitcoin cryptocurrency. In early 2016, I still decided to try this kind of earnings. Before starting work, I was faced with the question: where and how to withdraw this currency? It turns out that in the Web Money system there is a special WMX wallet, to which the earned bitcoins are withdrawn. I started with the fact that I created a bitcoin wallet, tied it to a WMX wallet and began to look for ways to earn. Having shoveled a lot of information, I decided to start with bitcoin faucets, there are many of them on the internet. They promise free satoshi: from 1 to several hundred thousand. Usually, to get your satoshi, you only need to enter your wallet and captcha. It would seem that nothing is easier if not for the fact that for a month of endless captcha input I earned only 2 dollars 43 cents. It's too little! And if we consider that 1 bitcoin is 100 million Satoshi, then it becomes clear at once-to earn in this way it will take several years of continuous search for faucets and entering captcha. I collected my satoshi on FaucetBox.com, there are collected almost all the faucets and they are all operating. However, from this type of earnings I long ago refused. And you do not advise.

Personally, i think sometimes it made sense to use different faucets, today it is quite a fortune to find a quality faucet. You will find a good faucet /for example on twitters or in a new coin thread/ that gives a decent reward, but after a few days it is no longer complemented by the dev team. What i remember, so were good faucets on Doge coins or Waves. Now i do not use the faucets because there is little spare time.

The thing is faucets were not designed to make some reasonable income for users. The orginal purpose Gavin had in mind (he's the one who made the first faucet) was IMO to spread the word and coins among users who are not mining. Some sort of advertising BTC.

Later it became very attractive for webmasters to get huge traffic. Simply buying an audience ... I've been there as well but few hacks and fact the major advertising companies cease accepting such traffic forced me to quit.

For me using faucets was a great start (I've been riding them a lot) but they never worth it at the time of using.
The positive comes when coin price skyrockets and you kept your free claimed coins ... and this logic still applies today.

So if you believe BTC (or some other coin) will increase in value then you can say it's worth it.

its not good things for make money, but Faucets is good for learning. first free money + transactions. thets not bad.

Thats true and it looks so funny now, that faucet was giving 5 bitcoins per claim lol in 2011! This is how Gavin told folks about his experiment:
Gavin: "For my first Bitcoin coding project, I decided to do something that sounds really dumb: I created a web site that gives away Bitcoins. Five ฿ per customer, first come first served, I've stocked it with ฿1,100 to start."
