Title: Siacoin Breaks Millions of Dollars of Cryptocurrency ASIC Miners | SIA Hard Fork
Post by: VoskCoin on October 04, 2018, 12:13:46 AM
David Vorick of Siacoin has announced the team has decided to "brick" the Bitmain Antminer A3s and Innosilicon S11 Blake2b Siacoin ASIC miners to allow their Obelisk Tech SC1 miners to be the only miners on their network. Official Post - http://bit.ly/2DWR2Ri

This is some of the most shocking cryptocurrency news and especially crypto mining news of the year as the Siacoin team funded by Nebulous Labs and Obelisk Tech has decided to restore profitability to the ASIC miners that they crowd-funded by use of their originally secret "back door kill switch" - http://bit.ly/CDSia

They took too much time to do that, although is a nice thing they did but i'm afraid is too late, the damage is already done and to recover from that, will be years.

Good video, I have to disagree that this is the "biggest blow to Bitmain anyone has ever done" though.  I mean if anything it made Sia look bad and Bitmain the martyr.  I don't know what they are selling them for now, but you could pick up an A3 directly from bitmain for under $200 recently.  Unless you have free electricity, they lose money.  Bitmain swooped in, made what I am assuming was a large profit, then they got out.  Didn't develop anything to beat Innsilicon's entry.  I think its funny though that David somehow still mentions them as one of the reasons though!

They are delusional too.  In the Reddit ama they said they are still going to operate the company and create asics for other coins!  Its insanity.

Why is Bitmain A3 even being discussed? Its pitiful compared to Innosillicon Siamaster.

And the biggest issue is that Innosillicon owns almost 50% of hash-rate for Sia. Yes, Innosillicon self-mining themselves, not the Siamaster's they sold to others.

Bitmain and Innosillicon will just support the old fork and call it SiaClassic or something.  There's nothing preventing them for supporting and developing on the sia code that works with their miners.

Its barely a blow to bitmain, the monero fork was a way bigger blow , bitmain already killed the sia network and farmed the hell out of sia at lower diffs.

Misslrading topic imo , it affects inno way more than bitmain since thier sia hash is far larger.

you should rename it to biggest blow dealt to innosilcon lol.

Bitmains blow is comming soon with progpow on eth

How is it a nice thing. They simply said everybody to f*** off so their ASICs can work at all. Just a money move nothing else. They centralize the network under their control. I don't get it how this is a good think. They are hypocrits, the biggest possible.

But who cares about Siacoin anyway. Its a shitcoin.

Your message makes absolutely no sense to this topic. No idea why you are talking about hodling or the BCH fork.

Either way like I commented on my other post. The people that are screwed the most with this are the retail owners of these ASICs which haven't reached ROI yet. Bitmain doesn't really care since they got plenty of other algos to mine anyways.

Bitmain is a much more recognizable name compared to innosilicon, Bitmain was also first to market starting this whole debacle. That's why I chose to use Bitmain over inno etc

also most people will get a kick out of jihan wu's latest tweet

I do know of a particular popular person outside of Siacoin who cares about this decision

And the interesting thing is that Bitmain use this argument when coin devs say they will brick their asics. Bitmain --> "If you devs want to x asics then as we sold many to people, in the end you coin devs will only brick peoples asics.". People need to understand that buying asics always have risks, they should never blame coin devs to brick asics if that is what they were committed in the first place which we all know sia devs were never commited to brick their own asics, and yes to brick competitor asics which i think is wrong. If they want to brick then brick all asics and not just competitor asics cause if they do that then what they are doing is a dictatorial action towards competition and that is wrong in a open cryptocoin market, imagine eth devs bricking amd gpus and letting only nvidia gpus.

The truth is that sia devs are doing this as a revenge x bitmain and in the process is ******** all other sia asic companies, in my concept is, brick all or dont brick any.

Fork from within side? Obviously he used a translator he can’t be bothered to even use proper english on his rant
smh, shows the utter disdain bitmain has for us lol.

I suppose you are right @voskcoin bitmain is bothered by this probably due to the precedent this retro style fork sets, i.e brick asics by brand not asics in general.

Good for siacoin , hopefully the eth devs follow

I'm glad siacoin did this and it's a bold move on their part. Possibly similar to the move Monero made, almost a year ago. I don't see why Siacoin devs had to wait this long to even do this considering they are a direct competitor with their Siacoin Obelisk ASICs.

This won't hurt bitmain much tho. Bitmain is already filthy rich.

Get the fuck outta here. i'm serious... giving traction to these fucks. it's a glory show. it's pure bs. im starting to get angry.

THERE tech doesn't deliver cost effective storage.

this is a scam coin. thats hiding in disguise, with traction because of very calculated market manipulation REGARDLESS of what bitcoin is doing.
we need to stop this shitshow.

theres coins chains being created daily. and im not telling you don't mine this or that. do what you want.

but this level of fuckery. needs to not go unnoticed. fuck em.

just leaving my shit stain for all to see and beware.

So basically SIA will change the algo a little bit and make it incompatible with the Bitmain/Inno ASICs however how do they know that Bitmain/Inno won't just make another ASICs in the near future.

The Obeslik miner is it based on an FGPA or is it an actual ASIC? Because they instead should of just banned all ASICs and used an algo like ProgPOW and gave the mining back to the GPUs which are more decentralized than only the purchasers of Obeslik miners.

They are after profits like I stated many times, if it was for the good of the coin concerning security and decentralization then sia would be gpu only. I will never promote sia coin and I support it to fail long term because of these dictatorial practices.

"break away from ASICS" correction, is not breaking from, sia will still be asic from and more importantly asics from sia devs.

I agree. They needed to do this the day Bitmain announced their miners.  I remember when they rejected a fork and I thought to myself that this was a bad idea.  At least it was nice to see someone stand up to Bitmain.

They're not "standing up to Bitmain" and it is foolish to claim as such. They are centralizing asic mining to profit from 100% of all asic miner sales used for this coin................ Communism is alive and well in Crypto it would seem. I wonder what decision will be made next to benefit the Sia team?

In case anyone has forgotten, the whole base principle of cryptocurrency is decentralization. Sia is now centralized and no doubt they will have representatives arguing till the end of time they are not but the facts are evident. At this point in time you couldn't run fast enough to give me a Sia coin.

Well if I were sia I would brick your team’s asics along with innosilicon.

Then I would not sell any more of my asics.  Wait until bitmain and innosilicon copy my asics.

Say 120 to 180  days then brick all copycat asics of my asic.  So at this point I then would switch to progpow+cnv2 mashup that every end of the month the algo is picked be the tx id for the last block of the month.

I could ruin most asics made in the last year that wiped out the entire worlds gpu mining value by careful attacks against asics.

But I just a guy in   NJ , USA typing on an iPad mini.

The cryptocoin industry was dealt a wicked attack when bitmain crushed gpu coins with asic after asic and flooded the market with them at dirt cheap prices.

But you are a guy based in China and I am a guy based in the USA so we will differ on what is best for coins.  To me I no longer see bitmain’s  vision that  they have for crypto coins.

To fanatic26 I do not think you are wrong to side with bitmain.  If I were in your position I would most likely do so.

I had a 2 megawatt deal in solar die for me.

I would have had 333kwatts at 1 cent if the deal worked.

I would have purchased 200 s9js with psus in late July and be close to roi already.
