Of the new coins I can  advise you neo or eos. But you need to draw your attention to other alts - stellar, dash or Litecoin.

Zcash: in the coming years, I think that privacy will be more valuable and more important.
ADA: It has to be successful because it is an ETH competitor as a technology and project. confidence and expectations for the team!
Ripple: it seems to be the bank intermediary institution that will provide the fastest adaptation to this system.
Neo: it comes after BTC, ETH. I think it will be an important token as infrastructure and project support. Chinese's ETH.

Long-term investments not always profitable. If we do normal trading then also good. We used to think the market just go up and up. But maybe market not go up again and just stick to the current price. But it's always good to invest in top coin for a long term. I suggest you at least invest in top ten coins.

This is probably the best approach throughout the thread. Bitcoin is king of crypto 1.0, Ethereum is that of 2.0, and Monero is king of dark web. Like it or not (and I personally do not) Ripple is good because it has its massive warchest and a solidified network of clients and partners in the financial sector. It seems to be equipped to set out what it wants to do.

Alternatively, that 4th slot could to go your pick as the winner of blockchain 3.0. Current contenders are ADA/EOS/NEO/QTUM/NEM/etc... I personally have the most faith in NEM, but it's a preference call at that point.

As for me, i always refer to the coin market cap. The top 4 at CMC are those cryptocurrency worth holding for three years.

It's really tough choice. Even five years time is really more. I always choose short term investment instead of long term. Mostly I go just btc for long term. Maybe in btc also we can't find any future after five years. For next six month I prefer BTC, EOS and XLM but not for five years.

I do not want to advise some little-known coins, because here everyone chooses himself and his opinion will be subjective. But one thing I can say for sure is that the best options for long-term investment will be bitcoin and ether.

If I have to choose for very long time, I would prefer Bitcoin and Ethereum for the time being. Also, Hydro, Xlm, Eos, Qtum, Ada are a few of my long-term choices. Still, who knows the future, only my preferences, over time my portfolio may change completely.

I don't know if it's really 100% untouchable considering crypto market volatility. But long term coins with great fundamentals should be Ethereum, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, NEM and maybe Litecoin too.

In my own opinion, it would bitcoin. Since bitcoin is the most long running coin of all time; I think that it is hard for other coins to defeat it. And also it will still useful after five years since many people are starting to invest with it. For the other three it is up to you to decide, but all I can say that always put bitcoin on the top of your list.

I like to invest in two cryptos bitcoin and Ripple because bitcoin is the leading crypto in the world and will be the mainstream in the future and Ripple is fast growing Altcoin and the price is also very low. It is good idea but investment in more than one crypto needs big money for investment. Bitcoin is very costly and if you want to buy bitcoin you need big investment. If youre a low risk person picl only on top 10 on cmc. These projects are in that position because they are good and has a very stable market but dont expect much of return since these are already above on their price since their inception..But if youre a high risker, you can widen youre horizon to a new projects who have recently surfaced but you need to review how good they are.
