Title: Current List of Competitive Hardware - January 2020
Post by: Steamtyme on October 07, 2018, 10:21:43 PM
Considering there are a lot of hats in the ring these days; I thought a comprehensive list was in order. Below you will find hardware listed by manufacturer. I'm going to try and limit it to competitive hardware, but feel free to suggest something else be added if you feel the list falls short.

The purpose of this thread is not for discussion; I will link all current discussion topics and available forum reviews.

Pricing and specs taken from manufacturer websites. For hardware not sold directly by the manufacturer you will see a "Where to purchase" link to their distributor. See reviews and discussion threads for real world tests. Know that all miners have a variance in power consumption and hashrate depending on conditions, these are noted in the discussion/review threads or Manufacturer websites.

Current Leader in Advertised Efficiency = Bitmain S17 Pro  .0395 J/GH                                                   AB = Asic Boost

Cool thread. How often you think you'll maintain?

Also, T1's are still accessible.

Great article, but here are some comments:

Whatsminer is wrong.

Wrong company name. Wrong web address.

The right information is:

MicroBT
http://www.microbt.com/

Whatsminer.net and Pangolinminer.com are distributors for the Whatsminer hardware.

I would love to see a price per TH metric added.  :)

@ og more complex the price per th.

you have price per th to usa due to 27.6% tax
you have price per th to europe due to 18% tax  I know that varies
you have price per th to rest of world maybe with 0% tax.

you have  time to wait on gear
you have coupons
you have shipping cost
you have btc conversion rates

you have  watts per th.

In that case I demand he immediately put together an interface where I can put in my information and it will automatically tell me the best hardware for the buck.  Kidding.  :)

On mobile.

Thanks for the updated info. I'll update the whatsminer stuff this evening. I did have a tough time sorting through their chain. Missed something I guess.

I'll add a price per TH that's  no issue. With this being a global market. My idea is just keeping it basic based on from manufacturer. People can figure out the extra based on their situation, based on the links they follow.

I'll maintain the thread to within a few days, as best I can.

Can you elaborate on the T1's I just went by their webpage.

Cool thread. How often you think you'll maintain?

Also, T1's are still accessible.

Do you mean that Halong or MyRig is still selling T1 units?

Could you elaborate?

I have updated the OP.

@Thanks again Haggs, it wasn't until I re-read your review that I found where I missed the information for Whatsminer.

@Og, I added in a quick cost/TH. I'll get right on that super smart system, give me a year longer than the new forum software. ;D

Also, T1's are still accessible.

I completely forgot about Myrig. Updated, not sure how many they still have.

I think going forward, once hardware is only available on the secondary market I will remove all pricing data. Not the situation here but may be shortly.

Appreciate all the input. Honestly I had to do this because I found myself getting lost in what has or hasn't launched. Feel free to let me know anytime there is anything you feel is lacking or would make a good addition/update.

Yes MyRig, I would consider them worthy to list in referance to the T1.

Also MicroBT website correct? No real links and a bunch of wechat qc's? Contact email comes back undeliverable.

Two lesser ones are

GMO from Japan
Triple-1 from Japan

Title: Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - October 2018
Post by: Steamtyme on October 10, 2018, 12:35:43 PM
Have either of them put miners in the hands of customers yet? I thought GMO was close as in this month, but that they were still preorder.

I am interested in triple-1 but same as above I didn't think they had delivered a miner yet.

Maybe in an effort of fairness for current market sales I will add a general speculation section at the bottom for companies who have yet to deliver a miner but have announced competitive hardware.

How about Bitfury stuff?

Bitfury Tardis miner, 6.3 KW. The Bitfury Tardis miner is offered with different configuration options:

5 hashboards, 66TH/s, 6,3KW – 95 mJ/GH, $55 per TH/s
6 hashboards, 71TH/s, 6,3KW -  88 mJ/GH, $58 per TH/s
7 hashboards, 75TH/s, 6,3KW -  84 mJ/GH, $61 per TH/s
8 hashboards, 78TH/s, 6,3KW -  80 mJ/GH, $65 per TH/s
Each hashboard contains 128 Bitfury Clarke chips.

Yep, Bitfury is legit for sure.

I think their most power efficient version of the new Tardis miner could make sense for big scale miners.

Yeah I was doing some research on Bitfury last night, but need to do more.  I have a post somewhere a fee months back about someone looking into the snow leopard, and I did read up on the tardis.

Last I checked though they had a MOQ of 100 units. Here's where it becomes opinion and I'll defer to the community.

Is a company that has a MOQ of 100 really competitive? I'm going to keep digging tonight, but if anyone can point me to a distributor or something where anyone can pick them up thag would be great

If not I will add them at the bottom, under a industrial title or something of the sorts.

Still looking into GMO and triple 1 waiting for a product to materialize.

Keep the info coming people I appreciate the assistance in keeping this list up to date.

Edit: MOQ may have changed, if I can find some hard facts that the panther had been delivered out to customers I'll add them with the tardis being speculation. They are tough, as I recall they didn't sell to the global public for many years and have only recently started doing this again.

Title: Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - October 2018
Post by: HagssFIN on October 11, 2018, 10:49:40 PM
I thought that by 'competitive' you mean the current gen. / top efficiency hardware?

Title: Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - October 2018
Post by: Steamtyme on October 11, 2018, 11:05:46 PM
You're right Hagss.

Sorry for the confusion, I may just have to stop replying from mobile for some threads.

So in keeping with the theme of having hardware currently out or having been delivered  that is recently competitive, I need to research their panther or B3 snowleopard or b8 I think it was called. If I can't find some hard facts on that miner having been sold, then they only have a spec sheet for unreleased hardware the "tardis".

When I was starting to think about this thread I believe they only had the shipping container build up on their website so they were passed over.

That being said.  I am looking into the tardis for details and if anyone can send something regarding their last miner that was sold, I will update OP accordingly.

I will probably also ad in a metric for units that have a MOQ.

As always I am open to suggestions and input. If someone feels I am leaving out a key piece if information we can discuss adding it.

Their previous gen. miner is called Bitfury B8.

There is an old product page here: https://bitfury.com/hardware/server

Specs https://www.asicminervalue.com/miners/bitfury/b8

It uses this 16nm chip https://bitfury.com/content/downloads/16-nm-asic-datasheet-2018-04-002.pdf

The BlockBox AC actually consists of 176 pieces of these Bitfury B8 miners. https://bitfury.com/content/downloads/blockboxac-brochure-2018-04-002-layouts.compressed.pdf

Still looking into GMO and triple 1 waiting for a product to materialize.

As per GMO website, i.e. https://gmominer.z.com/en/

GMO miner B3 is sold out temporarily due to the very high demand. Please kindly wait until we restart selling.
For those who wish to order, please contact us via the Inquiry Form below the FAQ page.
We will be in touch with you once we restart selling.

So, I guess, GMO product has already been materialized. I could not understand anything from http://triple-1.com/ though.

Yep, Bitfury is legit for sure.

Bitfury has been added. It's tough to find anything on their gear out in the wild but there are some videos out there. A lot of the info available does seem to be in russian, but I have sent a request for information from them regarding the Tardis. Mostly with expected shipdates and what not, this way once it's proven real somewhere it can take the current hardware slot.

So, I guess, GMO product has already been materialized.

I read the same and going back through the discussion threads on the forum, it had an expected shipdate in October. So with them still being a new company having never produced hadware to consumers I'm holding off.

If they keep to their commitments and ship something out at any point they will be placed on the list for sure. Again they have been sent a request for information, we'll see if they get back to me.

There is a discussion thread regarding this miner.

That link will direct you to a post of mine within the thread, feel free to post in that thread. Once enough validating information has been collected I'll add this company and hardware.

Edited: If you can post screenshots of the status page and the logs to review that would be great. So far we haven't seen this, or packaging. Could maybe do with some pics from the sides as well to get a good picture of the total miner.

yeah 49th at 5400 watts = no good  for many ,but it will work on a 30 amp 240 volt circuit.

you need 2-4 cent power to consider having it.

although I see sideways movement in difficulty for a few months.  maybe it works for a six cent miner

I can see their promotion (but 10 get 3 free). If you order 10 are they automatically shipping 3 or you should send a note, email or something? And are they sending those 3 as gifts or custom applies to them also?

Not sure you will need to inquire with the company directly or follow the link to the discussion thread and ask there.

Again this thread isn't meant to discuss the various hardware just to document them and help keep details up to date.

That is why there are links where available for reviews and discussion.

I have not contacted MicroBT, Must have been an oversight on my part as I thought I had emailed all/most companies outside Bitmain regarding their speculated hardware.

Have you had any luck reaching them; or getting information through their distributors? I only ask as I believe you were carrying/importing their products and figured you may have more info via salespersons.

I will at this time try reaching out to them. If I receive info I will update the OP, but post the information in the discussion threads.

Edit:

I have updated the Bitmain section of speculation for the S15 and T15. They are going to be released soon, and once someone has one and the numbers are close or on spec I will update their current listing, that goes on sale within 12 hours.

Feel free to let me know - This will help with future listings of hardware

1) If I should just "trust" that Bitmain will deliver this gear at spec and update their current hardware.
2) Wait until it's been in the wild, as this may just be a pre-order - this is my current plan.
3) Any other suggestions/criticisms of the thread to date.

List has been updated to include the T15 as Bitmains current product and the most efficient advertised gear @.06 J/GH using their Low Power mode.

I will update with the S15 once delivered and on spec.

Sent this to you over PM also

https://imgur.com/a/Detmq3h

My biggest issue is the locked down firmware that doesn't allow SSH. If you'd like to know before  I get the pictures, LPM is around 900 watts @ ~16V input, controller pulls 12V and hashrate is about 18Th/s. Without LPM it pulls around 1620w @ between 18-20V with the controller pulling 12V and a hashrate between 27 and 29th/s, most of the time it's in the 28TH range.

For now looks like Bitmain take #1 and #2 spots, with the T 15 low power mode

... My biggest issue is the locked down firmware that doesn't allow SSH. If you'd like to know before  I get the pictures, LPM is around 900 watts @ ~16V input, controller pulls 12V and hashrate is about 18Th/s. Without LPM it pulls around 1620w @ between 18-20V with the controller pulling 12V and a hashrate between 27 and 29th/s, most of the time it's in the 28TH range.

so at 1620/28000 it is 57 watts a th

the m10 is 2400/34000 or 70 watts a th

the s15 cost  1204 plus shipping and maybe taxes
the m10 cost  1022 plus shipping and maybe taxes

edge to s15

anyone  try new firmware for t15 and or s15?

I've gone through and updated all the current hardware listings. This was to account for any changes in Price, MOQ, Specs of the unit.

I am also considering removing Halong Mining as I believe they are out of business and will no longer be producing hardware.

Let me know if I missed anything.

Edit: I messed up, I was planning on logging the before and after as I made a lot of updates. I'll try and do that in the future in case anyone wants to compare.

Update today-

Added the M20 as a discussion thread for MicroBT
Change Innosilicon's product to the T3 - and updated stats. I made mention that it is now the most efficient but will make the change once we see that it is at or near spec for power draw.

As always if you see an error or have something for me to add let me know.

I keep the Op up to date pretty regular. Right now the ones to watch are Bitmain, Innosilicon, and MicroBT (Whatsminer). Some have good hardware available now some have a miner being speculated about, most have links to the info.

If you can't find something let me know.

Innosilicon has been given top spot in efficiency. They are noted as having several batches. The real world tests didn't match their specs 100%, but it is a minute sample size and all numbers quoted are Manufacturer advertised numbers.

I am also considering removing some of the listed Hardware:

Halong - If I'm not mistaken this company is no longer operating or producing Hardware.
Bitfury - I'm on the fence without knowing if the Tardis ever shipped out to anyone. If not there last miner is well outside competitive.

As always I'm open to input.

Halong seems to be gone.

Bitfury  is very hard to buy their gear.

I am not sure what will happen with Avalon  since the A921 was a real bomb.
I like working with them I hope they make an A941  that works well.

Title: Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - March 2019

Well at the end of the month I believe I will remove Halong all together, as they are out of business. The others I will keep on until maybe the end of next month. With all this gear between .048 and .065 J/GH , there are really only going to be 3 proven distributors of Competitive Hardware.  Bitmain, Innosilicon, and MicroBT.

I believe I will move companies like Bitfily, Bitfury, Canaan, and Ebang to the bottom of the post under a horizontal line. Naming them as previously competitive hardware just to show the most recent changes. I believe most of the companies to still be in business. Bitfily hasn't updated their site in a long time so I'm not sure of their status at the moment.

In 'reality' in the USA...most of it anyway...will go back to 'Summer Electric Rates) or from what I can tell in most places...that is a 33% increase in electric costs for I think it is 5 months.

Thus sometime around May 15th when this flips.....we probably (or any crypto) needs a 33% price pump or it is gonna get beyond ugly out there.

just pointing this out...you could have "no equipment" on your list that 'makes sense to buy anyway...and this is not talking about the 27.6% fees with tariff and import fees.

sheesh, what a 'rekt' cluster****.

So some big changes. Bitmain has reclaimed the top spot in efficiency, with the S17. I used their normal numbers for the S17 Pro as advertised.

Halong has been removed from the main list and moved to the bottom as they areno longer operational. Bitfily, Bitfury and Ebang are now in a previously competitive category until they release new hardware.

That would be the stock as advertised specs I believe. I did notice some chat about the firmware. I'll read up on it tonight and figure out how to work it in. Most likely it will be an * about the FW and it's efficiency gains. Good catch.

The Gekkoscience pods and sticks are designed for hobby/home use.

Also, AvalonMiners can be configured for a low power use, the 8 series with the lp firmware is a great combination.

I have a A841 mining at 8Ths hash rate with about a 700W power consumption.

Post by: Searing on May 15, 2019, 12:11:44 AM
Pricing is fine imo, as nothing else is/will competing with the M20 but yes too long of lead time.

ditto....in my area ... I can get the elec utility (Xcel) to pay same for elec as I pay for (12 winter and 13c summer...more or less).

the CATCH is, however, they go by your LAST YEARS electric use and will only buy back at that rate...so if it was $100 w/o, miners and you have the capacity to do $400 a month with miners....sure you can do it for 6 months but then they adust downward..if you miss that goal but never back upwards..once the miners go off (FML).

So, I can't use the 'extra' capacity of what I use for miners (not selling back to Xcel)  when they go defunct... because even with say a year lag between decent equipment..in 6 months they will adjust downward.

So hell, that sucked.

So back to the equipment side of this post, before it gets deleted for off-topic (where I'm going with this) as a 'equip hedge" (with no real decent equipment miner wise in the next year) a person could use some BTC on a price pump as a hedge against it going down and get a solar setup (my case 9KW is 20k after rebates supposedly)

BUT you'd have to have some miner equipment in place, with a year of electrick use, to justify to Xcel your use of electric at that rate (frigging chicken and egg miner paradox)

The point of this post, you STILL have to find miner equipment that makes sense to mine at say 12-13c kWh and just use that direct to mining...at the point this equipment (next to go around say 2020 equip and beyond) that equip becomes obsolete you could MAYBE stop mining after that point and sell back to the electric utility at the higher use rate for maybe 6-9 months and if lucky the usual winter heat benefit...then they adjust downward and you have an overcapacity solar arrangement that you can't put back till new miners become possible as a hedge.

So I'm still stuck...I can get solar as a 'hedge' in case BTC corrects too much this year and bleed some off...If BTC pumps at least I'd have solar..but that only works IF there is less then dubious equipment I can mine with in 2020 in the basement.

Thus after all that (except for bleeding some BTC off and getting solar out of the deal) I am right back where I started and need equipment that would work in 2020 ..run it for a year or so ..and then maybe, kinda could justify solar.

Sucks that they can regulate how much they will buy back on use...then you can't adjust up after the fact..but they can review in 6 months and adjust downward when the use goes away.

Anyway, I think this is on topic. I thought maybe it was an angle...maybe in some other state...In Minnesota and Xcel I can't give them more electric back from miners..(maybe 6 months) after the miners go to bricks till the next batch of miners come out, say a year later...so the only way solar is any use in my case would be if we have a bubble again and I simply want to buy some solar as a hedge on a drop in price for giggles.....and there is no equipment around I can get instead.

So that was a long way around to find 1) no equipment worth getting in the near future and 2) solar does not give me a working around for this and so back at 1) again...no equipment worth getting in the near future.

Hopefully, someone in another state can tell they don't have this cluster and can get around such.

I thought it was a way (kinda is I guess) to get solar this year and then get miner equipment next year with solar in place. Seems I need the equipment first in both cases and Xcel has all the angles on Solar.

Micro BT is announcing 4 Whatsminers Sunday the 19th, M20, M20S, M21 and M21S. May want to watch for that for competitive hardware ~snipped and formatted~

I'll add them to the list the same as the other gear once it's confirmed in the wild. I'm expecting what I believe will be branded an M20S ordered as a demo, within the next 2 weeks - maybe. The lead time was about 6 weeks at time of ordering, but may stretch a bit, I've never gone longer than that and couldn't imagine how hard the waiting game would be. They are however one of the few units that don't come with a hard 240 V cap.

Searing - Yeah I've been fortunate to live in an area that leaves me very well positioned for mining. It's tough for some out there, keep looking for opportunities, if your Winters are cold you may want to consider becoming a seasonal miner, only. I see this as a likely end result for a lot of home miners down the road.

Thanks for the update, they've joined Halong and been moved to the final stop on the list. Anyone who has ordered gear recently can also fill in on what the USD price was I will try and update that in the next week. M20 will probably be the next gear update, they should be arriving to people in 10-14 days ~ better late than never.

Just a reminder that this thread serves a running reference to the Hardware Available. This is not a general discussion thread, use the links provided in the OP for each miner, or wherever is suitable.

In case anyone is wondering why I haven't added the M20S to the list yet, despite a couple in the wild. To my knowledge Pangolin has the first complete batch of demo units that should have shipped out, and were available for order off the website. That batch did not completely ship out and I'm unsure how many people did or did not receive them. I know that I did not receive mine, but some higher profile members did receive theirs, which can sometimes be problematic.  Secondly the batch was also delayed several weeks.

So until this is fulfilled I'll cautiously hold off on promoting it through this reference thread.

Updates:

  • I have created and included a list based on efficiency of all currently and recently available hardware under .07 J/GH
  • I have updated MicroBT's best offering to the M20S, as from what I can tell there are no longer any outstanding orders
  • I went through and updated pricing for gear based on what manufacturer/distributors are advertising

Right now the only odd listing is Innosilicon. It appears that a lot of the T3 variations have become worse with efficiency and or have performed under spec. I'm going to do a little more research and see what if there is any discussion around the pre-orders for the T3+; which is not an improvement in efficiency.

I don't know why but they seem very familiar. Did they have less efficient gear before?  That would be one reason they never made the list if their offerings weren't competitive at the time. I also withhold putting a company on here until there is some proof of gear and specs. They do have a few pieces that claim really good efficiency with delivery for October based on the site.

Did some digging and there was some talk of them a few months back but doesn't seem to be much else. I'll definitely keep an eye on them.

Well I'm not giving them an A+ on anything, but looking at their site it looks like 53 TH for 13800 Yaun = ~1960 USD for this gear  - 53T ASIC miner Cheetah Miner-F5M with PSU (http://53T ASIC miner Cheetah Miner-F5M with PSU)
I did reach out to them for information and to ask if they had anyone performing reviews. I do not recommend anyone send them money until gear has been seen and verified by an independent party. Positives are that they are not just blindly accepting payment via the site, but will have a service rep reach out to you.

The 30TH model may just be an outlier of a small company that doesn't update their website very well. It should really just say in-stock if it is still available. We'll see if I hear back from them or something materializes in the wild.

Again, out of the country, I had an offer of $900 Innsolicon 30TH at 2,200 watts with $50 shipping to the states. Don't help me any with 36.7% tariff and import fees etc. This comes out to $1,307.20 there vs with USA tariffs after September 1st, 2019 or if you are a VAT Tax country..you may be sh*t out of luck on all this.

Hosting overseas legit? meh...?

I could post the info here and flesh it out some to see if legit. Indeed even pay the guy after I got this $1,307.20 30TH beastie for a review. Not worth the bother. Sorry. Hopefully, this is NOT off-topic in that just showing the difference in prices I'm being offered by individuals on the above Innsolicon. If they make a legit offer of say at 53TH at 3200 watts for say $1,499 I may just cry. I'd still be way out of the running in the USA.

Sorry, again, this SHOULD be on-topic just to show what is floating around in the wind for prices, in and out of USA anyway. Stuff that needs to be at the forefront of our miner calcs now the 36.7% frigging tariff.

Again, if you really want the contact info to flesh this out in this thread I can put it out there, but without a 'pay when you get it' and a review, I'm not going to. In that does me no good in the USA. So have legit links now for this new hardware page that is not even worth the hassle of my time in venting on a pay after it arrives review with the tariffs.

Updated main list to include the Bitamin S17+. Used red color to identify gear on that list drawing 3KW or more, as suggested by Kano. Bitmain speculation has been changed to 5nm chip speculation thread as there are no miners on the horizon but that's the direction they are going.

While I don't think the entire conversation that went on here should have been removed most of it was turning this into a discussion thread. I still welcome and accept all suggestions, such as the 3KW+ tagging. As well as any miners people feel should be added to the list. Feel free to post or PM if you have anything to add.

Articles on crypto "news" sites about new equipment and companies are typically all but useless. Very few sites check 'news' that is submitted to them and in fact usually are 'pay to print'. Until gear is in the hands of trusted members here and reviewed by them consider all reports as at least highly suspicious.

Very reasonable. Ok, I have no attachment to them I just like to see competitors.

Both Cheetah's F7 and StrongU Ut-U8 look interesting at their advertised W/T but I admit I have not seen any concrete evidence they actually exist.
