I don't think that cryptocurrency will replace fiat currency in future. Cause we can't think our daily life without fiat money.

I've seen a lot of people not using paper money anymore. Instead they use mobile phones, credit cards, coupons, etc... you name it. But if it can replace FIAT as such... meaning also digital money in banks, payment processors (PayPal), I don't think so. Most likely paper money (banknotes) will be replaced rather soon.

Right now we can't think about it but we're going to the golden age where transactions will be digitalized. It's either crypto's are going to be innovated by an agency of a government that can be in favor of them or they will just use the technology (blockchain) together with digitalized fiat money.

The cryptocurrency will replace fiat money it is only a matter of time. It is necessary to wait 5 years and everything will be.
5 years? I don't think that's enough for the world to start using crypto's as main payment method for everything. They can adopt the idea of crypto's but they won't fully rely to it.

This has been discussed in so many times in the various conferences but the bankers have issued a statement if crypto has no chance to replace fiat due to the volatility and lack of regulation. The volatility becomes the main problem in this day, the scalability has been already fixed.

I don't think so that crypto will replace the fiat. We must be aware that this society in the worldwide is very wide. There are many different countries with different culture and society situation. For the developed countries, it may be. But for the developing country or left country, I don't think that all societies can accept the crypto. But there may be many countries that can apply crypto as one of the payment method. But not replacing fiat.

In my view, It is unlikely to happen mate. I believe that Fiat will be never replaced forever. People need it for the payment instrument, It has proven for all the time. I don't think crypto will be better to use as the payment instrument in real life.

As o now it can't possibly to a fiat money to cryptocurrency because of so many issues encountered by crypto world. There's a lot of hindrances that block the diversity of virtual world over current economic growth. That's why we can absolutely predict when cryptocurrency take over the fiat money or currency.

Replacing fiat? In what case? Although the crypto offers very interesting concept and advanced technology, I thin that it is impossible for crypto to take over the fiat. there are many reasons why:
1. Different country has different level of society, many countries are still developing and not developed.
2. So difficult to use crypto in daily payment method.
3. Crypto is used only for some big companies in the world or even fro investment.

In my opinion, I do not think cryptocurrency may replace fiat money in the current situation and in the next 10 years or more. Reason could be that, fiat money represents as a monetary currency of a country with it's corresponding value wherein anywhere in the world you can have it change depending on the currency you wish to exchange. Fiat currency is accepted globally while cryptocurrency for now has just started to evolve globally where for some countries it is not yet recognized clearly due to government ban of cryptocurrency. However, there is a great chance that cryptocurrency will be more adopted by many countries but fiat currency will still be existing.

Its not we wanting for the replacement of fiat money into digital currency. Yes, cryptocurrency makes us more productive as it less consuming time in doing transactions but we can still deny that not all establishment have accepting these. And also, some areas don't have internet which is could only run for these.

actually this topic has been frequently and widely discussed on the bitcointalk forum, if you want to look more diligently you will find it. but its okay, I will give my opinion here. in my opinion cryptocurrency will not be as easy as replacing fiat, if speaking of context globally it will be very difficult to force millions of people to accept crypto in the near future, and I don't think that is really needed right now. crypto still needs more development, giving trust to the community to be accepted. compared to replacing fiat, I agree that both of them are able to collaborate for more future finance.

I believe that the use of cryptocurrency is a very convenient way of making payment transaction online as this is very efficient and fast. However, in relation to the subject which I think fiat currency cannot be replace by cryptcurrency this time since mass adaptation globally has not yet really evolved yet further. This needs more time to consider as cryptocurrency has still a long way to full fill such goal despite of the great advantages it can offer.

The limiting factor to increasing the accessibility and usability of cryptocurrency is no doubt; the ease of conversion with the cash denominated fiats. Once this is achieved, crypto will become widely accessible and usable with the predominant prepaid cards making rounds these days in the cyptosphere.

I see it to complement the fiat money; and not really replace.
I believe the community will be glad if the complement is better enhanced because; it will improve blockchain and cryptocurrency related activities and values.

Thank you!

That will never happen regardless of our widely accepted cryptocurrency becomes, It can never subdue the need for fiat currency. There will always be relevant need for fiat currency, mostly especially due to the fact a lot government will never accept cryptocurrency as an official means of exchange within its country.

Encrypted currency cannot replace legal tender
the reason:
The cryptocurrency price is changing every second! People can't buy goods and food that change every second!
The cryptocurrency conversion process is cumbersome. We all know that all current cryptocurrency conversions need to be purchased over the Internet! Many children and children cannot complete these steps!

Currencies that do compete with each other in currency market now are fiats and crypto currencies. 2017's growth has drawn in en-number investors into crypto and this supported more growth.

Currrent generation is keenly looking into crypto's moment and will soon adapt crypto currencies which will cause fiats' circulation and fiats value will remain flat in its growth. This is the reason governments are not ready to accept bitcoin or any other crypto currencies.

It could but it won't. It is another form of investment for majority, high risky one.
Only stable coins could be used as money I don't think any government will accept to replace their currency with something which is one day worth $1000 and next day $200.

Title: Re: Can cryptocurrency replace fiat money?
Post by: icoblog on November 03, 2018, 08:27:10 PM
To answer this question correctly we first need to take a look at what a currency needs to be.

Money needs to be:
-Easily accessable
-Widely accepted
-Has to be trusted

If we take a look at crypto nowadays, there are huge problems with all three factors.

It's accessability is a huge problem. At the moment you have to be a computer expert to use it. I always say: "if my parents understand it, than it has the potential to be accessable to everyone." If I try to explain crypto to my parents, they are rolling with their eyes, not understanding what I'm trying to tell them.

Another problem: crypto isn't widely accepted, yet. And it won't be in the near future. It's new, it's strange and fees are way to high. If I want to buy a cup of coffee, the fee sometimes is twice the price of that coffee. That's not good. Pundi X is trying to build a system that makes it possible to pay with crypto just like you are paying with your credit card, but still that's a very small project right now.

And point 3... Crypto has a huge problem with trust. For trust you need a stable market and coin. What has happened lately in the crypto with all of his volatility, it's not good for it's trust.

So, if you'd ask me if crypto will replace fiat in a short time... I don't think so. What we need is regulation and rules, so that trust can enter te market. If trust will enter the market, maybe it will be more accessable en more widely accepted. But there's a long road ahead...

Fiat does not necessarily mean paper money alone, such as some would think. Fiat can also be in form of electronic, but not cryptocurrency. You can talk of paper money being replaced, because there are already so many plans to have cashless society. So to introduce cryptocurrency to that purpose, crypto has to first be adopted worldwide.
So it will not replace fiat, but can replace banknote.

Of course it will replace fiat money, look at the wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_money

Quote
Fiat money is a currency without intrinsic value that has been established as money, often by government regulation. Fiat money does not have use value, and has value only because a government maintains its value, or because parties engaging in exchange agree on its value.[1] It was introduced as an alternative to commodity money and representative money. Commodity money is created from a good, often a precious metal such as gold or silver, which has uses other than as a medium of exchange (such a good is called a commodity). Representative money is similar to fiat money, but it represents a claim on a commodity (which can be redeemed to a greater or lesser extent).

Buy bitcoin before the rest of the national currencies drop.

Cryptos don't need to replace fiat. They can co-exist side by side. And let us, the users/consumers decide which is more important.

Certain utility tokens has inherent value, esp those tied to financial securities, assets or trading markets.

Take a look at LVX tokens and how it has it's own inherent value, https://level01.io/2018/08/26/the-future-chooses-lvx-universal-asset-currency-that-will-catapult-derivatives-trading-into-a-profitable-reality/

Until it can function without permanent network connectivity then the answer would be NO, there are times when there is no network connection or no electricity which renders transactions as impossible as things currently stand.
In my opinion, not at all, because the electronic money is fluctuating, the second is the penny that we can hardly use everyday because some of them are not technically savvy and they do not dare to hold the electricity bill. many deaths. Hacker risk and price fluctuation risk

It is not possible for you, I think in other direction, if using electronic money, some components do not use technology or computer they can not exchange or electronic money transactions, and especially security, hard to use electronic money replacement fiat

I think it's difficult to replace fiat money as this is our traditional method that being recognize by the government and this is also represents the economy of every country. This crypto is new and since this is not yet recognize by the majority or all country this is still not to consider as our future currency. Although crypto has potential but its premature decide for this matter.

"In future, can cryptocurrency replace fiat money?" is really a good question. This phenomenon seems to be most interesting to discuss today.
In my opinion, it is not impossible for crypto money to replace fiat money. Why would it be impossible? 30 years ago, nobody used a credit card. Now there's everybody. And the money that just returned in the market is just numbers. The use of paper money is decreasing day by day.

Just think about everything else besides money... isn't it changing and becoming different and digital? our TV? our phone? our computer? etc....
I can't believe that so many people are in the crypto world and don't believe that crypto can replace fiat money... crypto is money! and money is also evolving from paper printed bills to digital numbers... crypto will be the only safe long term solution for money...
And general people, that will have trouble with it.... these people will use what the TV tells them to use...
(not long ago, humans used salt as money... don't you think it was also hard to change to gold?)
cheers ;D

Replacing fiat isn't the objective of Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency but to work side by side with it. It would be too ambitious to say it will replace the fiat, they would have to abolish government in that case. Even paypal didn't wish that to happen. There is the need for governance whcih the reason for centralization of the fiat otherwise there won't be a council to fix and declare the value of products.

I do not foresee in the next hundred years that you can very well tell that fiat currency will be replaced by cryptocurrency. It is a new finacial system but it will not replace any national currency but it can be used in international trades and that is the biggest advantage as it gives you the freedom to conduct business without boundaries and the hurdle to exchange different currencies and their transaction charges.

Cryptocurrency will only replace part of the daily transaction. They can not completely replace cash. Everyday life needs cash because there are times when crypto can not be paid.

Not many crypto coins can do that, but most commonly Bitcoin can replace many transactions instead of cash. There are not many places to accept Bitcoin, and another reason is that people with Bitcoin do not choose it as a method to buy as cash.

Yeah, and it is some sort of hype within crypto craze but not that easy as of now. In that it is really possible as i am looking for it in the future were we start from physical materials then going to the paper moneys and coins and now coming to more advance technology which is clearly seen in decades. I have no doubt that we might seen bitcoin and physical materials again in the coming future as a medium of exchange.

because obviously between fiat and crypo have the same function, namely to transact and also invest.
because the history of the creation of bitcoin is to replace fiat, even though it is only limited to commodity, but slowly with various breakthroughs from the increasingly evolving blockchain technology system and the high level of interest, it can happen.

Cryptocurrency is not legalized everywhere. In many country it is still ban. Because of this it can't call an global currency. Another reason is its volatile. Because if volatile nature its price fluctuate time to time and because of this many people lose their trust on it. Currently cryptocurrency is more suitable as an alternative payment. Fiat's position is still strong, moreover not dependent on the internet and can be done instantly, it can be used for micro payments and easily. Cryptocurrency can cover the lack of payments using fiat, for example, it does not depend on distance. The point between fiat and cryptocurrency is complementary.

It will happen if the majority of the governments change their minds and support the cryptocurrency instead of fiat. Fiat can also turn into virtual currency and can co-exist with the cryptocurrencies someday. So fiat will not easily replaced by cryptocurrency and it might evolve instead in the future.

At the moment, it is very difficult for me to believe that crypto-currencies can replace Fiat as a single means of payment, because for this the global economy and the banking system must completely change.

it can work alongside fiat but might not be good replacement for obvious reasons.  if only there were no fluctuations and scams, it is possible.  :(

It seems to me so far that cryptocurrency is not capable of replacing fiat money, and even in the near future it seems to me that they will exist on a par!

No i think cryptocurrency can't replace fiat, what i believe in the near future many of stores will accept cryptocurrency for payment method instead credit card / debit card. But i don't know what can happen in the next ten years, maybe crypto can replace fiat.

I don't think so. Cryptocurrency has a lot of advantages in some particular cases, but it won't replace fiat money, at least in the nearest future.
Nevertheless, the blockchain technology can be used (is used) to make financial system better and most likely there will be some synergy of crypto and fiat.

Crypto and fiat money have different essence. And main destination for fiat is regulation mechanism for the economy and authority control tool. And what main idea for cryptocurrency? Independence and no emission.  And how those can be replaced?

Cryptocurrency cannot replace fiat money but has the potential to be used as a parallel currency with fiat. Why is that? Because to this day, the acceptance of fiat currencies is always wide in the community and is unmatched. Fiat money's becoming stronger because he's fully supported by the government.

Not right now, but its a possibility but only time is required meaning almost everyone have basic computer/ smart phone skills, understand basic sends and receive, understand basic onling security and governments have to accept, encourage  and use crypto for transactions, to make people have faith in using crypto.
