Less supply coming to market should mean less selling pressure and more chance for ETH price to increase but I think that all of that will be overridden by the overall market trend. ETH needs people to be using the coin, for ICOs or dapps etc. The problem with ETH is that in a bull the price will sky rocket as supply is eaten up by these projects but during a bear market there is less demand from ICOs and dapps and a lot of selling pressure from past funds becoming available.

Ethereum community has 2 upcoming events. Halving and this fork. I think these events will be good. But I trust in Vitalik mostly. Vitalik has great brain. He is very clever man and will be great soon.

after seeing this post, I think you have sold eth and got some benefits. from February ethereum still has a good price and currently eth prices are down. the best idea is eth will do hardfork by 2019. maybe i will buy ethereum and save it .

The hard fork has already been announced and postponed. Let's see if it goes through this time. I don't like the habit of Ethereum developers to postpone their already announced solutions. To be fair, a lot is at stake, most of all the integrity of the network. I don't think that halving the block reward is the best solution for the already bloated system, but who knows. On the other hand, halving means reducing inflation, and it may have some positive effect for the ETH holders, if Ethereum doesn't break up in the process. I think that the design of Ethereum was flawed from the very beginning, and now it's showing up its problems.

I think it will be a very good plan or idea if Hardfork happens in the beginning of next year (2019), for now looking at market conditions, especially looking at price charts Ethereum sometimes I feel sad. But it does not reduce my love for Ethereum. I hope that as soon as possible all return to recovery.

Vitalik is a very smart man, but what he think is the best for Ethereum isn't necessarily the best for miners or holders. So it all depends on what is your role in Ethereum ecosystem.

People need to know that this date is not sacrosanct, it is possible they move it, for me Ethereum developers are not serious, Bitcoin have Halving event programmed into the network but Ethereum developers just keep playing politics with their scaling solution, if ICO market shift away from the platform I don't see the future in the NEtwork

it should no longer have any serious effects on the long term price of it because there is already a very huge supply of it available and also with their hard fork to change the algorithm to proof of stake they will be basically giving away a lot of free coins to the whales who will in turn dump them right away without touching their main coins and that can crash the market hard.

so you think this hard fork will be in vain and will dump them alone? even affect the market to be worse than it is now? if so, why would they want to do it? I am confused.

Ethereum is a trusted brand but it has been dumped really badly during this bear market which could put investors off in future. Also the competition from cardano and tezos needs to be factored in as they are built to scale better than ethereum

This even can be important for Eth "reinassance" but the real problem is still the ICO crisis because if there is no demand for them, less people will continue to buy ethereum in order to participate to them...

Here is the first sign that nothing will help the ether and it becomes more difficult to develop it than to create a new fork. Soon he, like Bitcoin cash, will merge into one of the forks.

The hardfork for bitcoin didn't go so well so i am not very optimistic about ethereum hardfork either. Also i think it is coming at a very wrong time as the prices of the whole crypto industry is down and already the market is in a free fall so i don't know if this event can bring any good chance in these hard times of the crypto world.

It is not impossible for ethereum to be pumped on January or before that hardfork since that smells and instant cash and a free income to fill bags. It may also become a reason for ethereum to take over the second spot again so we have to collect as many as ethereum as we can before that happens. One thing is for sure, it will not become the same as BCH hardfork that caused a market manipulation. This is not the first time for ethereum to be on a hardfork.

Well Vitalik is very smart and he wont do the fork if it will not be good for ethereum maybe one of the reason why he will make it because he just want ethereum to have a partner and seeing having a partner will make a big success .

I'd say to think of nothing though when there are forks about to come, price do reacts and its increasing.

But this time, ETH devs are just following it's roadmap and this is just another upgrade that they shall make. There will be no coin to get as an additional or freebie by holding ETH on your wallets. I'll expect nothing will happen to the prices but I want some buff.

Ethereum hardfork is not like Bitcoin hardfork, the Ethereum hardfork will not result into any split of Ethereum, you can call it an upgrade in the core that the only way to do it will be by hardfork. Nothing bad can or will come for Ethereum hardfork we can only wait for positive effects, this hardfork is long waited for and 100% of Ethereum supporter are waiting for it.

I hope that it will give effects to the ethereum price so the price can increase back to the higher price. Although maybe it's not too high, at least we can sell the ethereum we have that we bought right now and made a profit. Usually, when the coins having a hard fork, the price will increase because there is a new coin from the fork and people can get a free coin too. But I don't know what will happen before or after the ethereum hard fork, and I will wait for this.

I think it's a good move for the network sustainability and i would have appreciate if they can even go lower like reducing it to 1/3 of the current reward so that the price will rise up more.

All of the hardforks that are being made are becoming a major problem which is one of the reasons why the prices of the coins are dropping to fast right now. We really do not need more coins, what we need right now is more volume and more concentration of money into a coin like bitcoin which determines the entire market and not more coins

I was not aware that there will be a ETH hard fork. But I guess the devs really need to do it to salvage was has left with ETH right now because the price has lost so much value in the last 10 months alone.

But I don't think this will be effective though, we have seen a lot of fork coins not being successful in the long run like BCH, hope though that I'm wrong.

It is hoped this will hardfork can change the result or the direction of the ethereum. prices continue to fall and bought a lot to wait for hardfork to arrive can be a benefit. However this also sometimes will give you a loss if hardfork give bad impact and it is not even certain whether the result is good and not.

The whole point of doing it to stop the bleeding on ethereum so I don't doubt it will have some positive affects on the price. They probably already did market research on this subject and already done their tests for it and came out with a result that says it would be beneficial for ethereum to get this fork in order to save it from this horrible market.

Either it will go higher a bit or it will stay but have a positive long term affects but no matter what the outcome will be the team probably already done some research on the subject so this is not just winging it out of their heads. We wouldn't know why or how without talking to them personally but I doubt they will come to bitcointalk and find this post to talk to us about the research they have done previously about the subject.

Write in the title that hardwork Constantinople will take place on 16th january 2019 this is a mistake. At the last meeting the developers of Ethereum chose the block on which this happens (No. 7080000).
More interesting information is that they discussed the ProgPoW update.

Prices might go up after the fork but its not because of the issuance reduction, they will go up when it looks like the fork is succesful without issues like they had with the test net earlier.

If it was meant to go up due to the reduced supply then it would of rallied when it was announced that the block reward is getting reduced but instead nothing happened.

So the supply reduction is already priced in and won't have a reflection on price.

This is a positive news, both psychologically and materially, psychologically Ethereum is in the area of purchase, this news will give rise to dew. In the material, all holders will receive additional coins. So I think a stiff fork will do you good.

If the date does not get postponed again,i guess it will help the price of ETH but may not be as expected because the truth is that,ETH need bull run to rise. The moment investors start investing in ICO again,ETH will surely rise and this can only happen when we have bull run.

Constantinople isn't necessarily good news for the short-term price. The price drops this year have meant a decrease in hash rate as mining becomes unprofitable. The upcoming fork will now reduce mining reward, and will will likely drop the hash rate further.
It's difficult to predict what will happen, but a fork does not always mean a chain split into two ongoing sustainable rival coins, and also it doesn't always mean instant price rises.
What we do know is that Constantinople (or something similar) is necessary for the development of ETH to continue. So likely the longer-term impact will be positive - but short-term, who knows?

I think if the price gets the pump, it will be another chance for us to sell our ethereum. But if there is no higher pump, we need to wait for longer to see the price increase. I wonder and hope that the price can increase regarding with the ethereum hard fork so I can sell my ethereum at the high price.  Even if there is no pump happen, I can wait for more because I think ethereum can increase higher in the next years.

If Hadrfork happened on January 16, I think this is a good thing, the effect of Hardfork is to be able to increase the price of ethereum and that can be a hope for ethereum to get up.

In any case, we see that a team is difficult on a project is good. After all, perhaps in Q1 we will see new heights from ETH. There is not much time left until the end of the year, and it will soon be clear where we all aspire to.

You can see the price of BCH after the hard fork has occurred. Everything depends on the developer, if everyone believes the results of the hard fork have great potential, then each investor will glance at the results of the hard fork and otherwise. Surely, if a hard fork will affect the price of a coin, each investor will focus on buying as many coins as possible.

If you look at hardfork cases on previous altcoins, this will affect to the price of coins in the market. So we have to hold ETH from now on, because the hype will take place before hardfork occurs, and after that the price will come back to drop. Be a smart people and don't fomo.  ;)

Constantinople fork schedule for 16th of January that will lead to ether halving which translate to halve reward in ethereum mining should create a rally in the price of ether in cryptocurrency market. The lower the supply the higher the price and demand! This is a good news!

It can have both a positive and negative impact on the market. As you said, the block reward will be halved or even more. But Constantinople update is required as it will pave the path to Proof-of-Stake(PoS).

A good position as a whole, but it also seems to me that the situation with BCH as a whole I carry only situations in which the situation can really get worse. I can confidently say only that today BCH cannot say anything because situations can be completely different.

One improvement included in this upgrade is EIP 1234 [Constantinople Difficulty Bomb Delay and Block Reward Adjustment]. This is the proposal that has been garnering the most attention and to which i am also fascinated about. This new update reduces the mining reward from 3 ETH to 2 ETH which will reduce the yearly inflation of the coin. The goal of this is ultimately to drive the price higher, as we know that when there is less of something it becomes worth more.
I look forward to this upgrade, that it may benefit all the Ethereum enthusiasts most especially the investors.

"Classic Vision Hard Fork – 11 Jan 2019: All Ethereum holders will receive 3 ETCV for each ETH in their wallets.
Ethereum Nowa Fork – 12 Jan 2019: Each ETH holder receives ETN in the ratio of 1:1 for free.
Constantinople Fork – 16 Jan 2019 (or earlier) Constantinople Mainnet hard fork scheduled for block #7080000: The Constantinople Mainnet hard fork is arguably the most significant fork because it is a big component of Ethereum’s transition from using a proof of work protocol to proof of stake."

I think there is nothing wrong with holding your coins cause when they split the network you will have both coins available in your wallet and erc20 tokens will reflect on both networks. It’s then left for the exchanges to determine which one of the two tokens they will be ready to support ,and most of them are likely to support the one which is more popular .

There is no big history track about ETH hardforks, but all they show pumping of the price till the moment of hardfork and dumping it right after it happens. I don't think we'll get some serious pump after the hardfork without the whole market surge.

eth devs has planned a hardfork on 16th jan to halve the block reward of eth to controll the inflation.. what do you think how it is gonna effect the eth price plus sholud we hold some eth for the fork

It's really affect the price since its have an additional volume of particular coins as hardfork goings-on, so it's not good to hold for long term , it is need to dump all ETHER to avoid huge losses.

Less reward in Ethereum means that price should go up to attract miners right? And miners are needed to ensure the transactions in blockchain.
If price will not go up, or will go down, there will be less miners and that would mean 51% increased risk of attack. My opinion is that nobody wants it so Ethereum has to rise.

Without this measure the price of ethereum would not risen at the moment. Many people are hoping that this fork will push the price higher. I can well imagine that this will happen, but i am not sure.

Will any coins be handed out during this fork? If so, on which stock exchanges to keep the coin?

I don't think there will be any coins to be distributed from Constantinople's hardfork. this is just an update to perfect the system.
but unlike the ETCV fork that will be done this month, you can get ETCV coins if you save ethereum in a personal wallet that supports ERC20.

Yeah right, Constantinople is  another update where it would decrease the rewards after that block rewards has been took place, the value might increase as numbers of mine coins will be lessen and maybe PoS might be introduce after this fork I just don't know if that will happen quickly after this fork or it will be discuss first before it will be implemented

Updates of ETH and its forks influence well the rate of the cryptocurrency. Some people predict the mad growth after the shift of ETH to POS. Only time will tell, I hope for the better!

It's the devs decision, so if you believe on the team, you should accept this upgrade.
I call it an upgrade because this move that they are making is going to be for the better of the network and with this kind of improvement, it deserves an increment of value that should be based on organic growth than a hype that will suddenly dump afterwards.

I think the fork will have a positive effect on Ethereum as it should help increase the performance of the network overall and relieve some of the bottlenecks in a heavily congested system. It isn't clear at this time if there will be a new coin generated if this happens there may be some trading opportunities.

I think right after the hardfork we can see some price drop cause many people are expecting that in Constantinople hardfork they gonna get new coins. Beside that there are 2 more hardfork(unofficial hardfork and I think they are scam). But in long time scale we will see some uptrend price cause if block reward less means a little bit low supply. But we can think in other ways too cause ethereum already have a huge supply so the change may not effects ethereum price. We saw the price drop cause of icos scams and failed icos. So if the ico ecosystem change my be then it's effects on ethereum price.

I think that hardfork will be more beneficial, and this is very much awaited by crypto enthusiasts. But at this time the day is approaching the occurrence of hardfork ethereum, but the condition looks normal, there are no surprises that can explode the value of coins. But it's still good for only a small increase.

As the block rewards will be lowered to 2 ETH, investors must welcome a lower inflation rate of Ether supply. Anyway, miners have been struggling due to Ethereum price decline and slashing the block reward by one- third during this time could be seen as inconsiderate. Investors are in awe of what to expect from the upcoming Ethereum hard forks, especially after the last BCH hard fork happened in November 2018.

Some kind of short-term volatility is expected once the hard forks are announced. The transition into PoS is a risk, but Vitalik Buterin doesn’t mind taking that risk as he doesn’t care on the short-term impact on its price. What he actually cares is succeeding as an investment rather than a technology. As investors are aware of the transition’s benefits, more investors are going to get attracted.

After hard fork will be the expected drop in the price of eth. This happens in 90% of cases, but you still need to take into account the global mood of the market at the moment. Speaking solely from the point of view of trade, and not long-term investment, I would advise selling the entire ethereum 2-3 days before hard fork.

Well, Nothing seems falling on the place for Ethereum, The hard fork has just been declared and puts off earlier. But Now so much at stake, above all else the respectability of the system. It might have some constructive outcome for the ETH holders if Ethereum doesn't separate all the while. I imagine that the structure of Ethereum was defective from the earliest starting point, and now it's making a mockery of its issues.

I think that the failed Ethereum hard fork is another attempt to manipulate the market. If we look at the news, many people were waiting for this event. Most sold their coins to buy ETH, but eventually the rate dropped to $122 and many are now at a loss. This proves once again that it is impossible to pin hopes on any event. Now it is not known when there will be hard fork and it would be bad for Ethereum.

I already have a lot of doubts about the future of Ethereum. Hard fork moved once again and this suggests that the team can not cope with the problems that loomed over the project. Or is this done on purpose to manipulate the exchange rate of ETH. But in theory, after Constantinople's hard fork, the price of Ethereum should rise.

Personally, I have never been exposed to any hardfork, but on seeing those two, o knew they were scam.
Then the Constantinople was just an up degrade on the ethereum network, which does not call for one to keep buying more ethereum at higher cost, to now later run at loss.
